Stuck at splash after rooting us tmo mt3g - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Okay I'm lost, weary of trying things as I'm not 100% clear on alot of this stuff.
Here's what I did, I recently had tmo replace my original mt3g, sadly the replacement gave the version is older or whatever message. I've gone through the steps and now I'm stuck at the boot up splash screen. I'll post what i've done so far, hopefully someone can identify whats gone wrong and steer me
Ok I followed the instructions here:
h~p://theunlockr.com/2009/08/14/how-to-root-your-mytouch-3g/
h~p://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
h~p://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
That worked, the phone was rooted and booting.
I then installed the the AMON_RA recovery img and I've tried both flavors
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H.img
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
I forget at this point, but I think the G didn't work for me, but i have H working.
From there I began following the instructions on cynogen mod to install...
h~p://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/394-cyanogenmod-5-for-dreammagic-mean-lean-pastry-machine-v508-06192010/

h~p://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Full_Update_Guide_-_HTC_Magic_%2832B%29
I booted the the recovery, wiped everything, installed the cm base, then gapps and powered down and powered on, stuck at splash...
I've tried a few variances and just to make sure, i went back to recovery and installed the Rom-RAv1.1.0H-signed-update.zip again to make sure it was working. It booted right up.
Ok so here is my phones info from the vol down + power hboot menu
sapphire pvt 32b eng s-off h
hboot-1.33.2005(sapp30000)
radio-3.22.20.17
apr 20 2009,15:30:43
I'm not sure of what else to include, my minds melted at this point.
It was so easy to root my old mt3g, this new model just makes me feel like an idiot.
*edit* Here is the info from my phones settings>about with the Rom-RAv1.1.0H-signed-update.zip loaded
Model: Ion
Firmware 1.5
Baseband 62.525.20.18h_3.22.20.17
kernel 2.6.27-cb85e129
[email protected] #3
Build #

Hmm
Did you root your phone using the MyTouch Rooting guide? Or the MyTouch 1.2 (has 3.5 mm headphone jack) guide? From what it sounds like you got the updated model of the MT3G.
If you used the Rooting guide for the old model and you have the new one, you will have issues. Heres the link:
h~p://theunlockr.com/2010/03/11/how-to-root-the-mytouch-1-2-and-fender-mytouch/
If I'm right, you should have no issue re-rooting your phone.
Good luck, hope this helps.

<grin> that's another aspect of my mind melting yesterday, making sure i wasn't following instructions for the wrong version of the phone.
I have the original base model, no 3.5mm.
Tmo sent me the replacement phone about a month ago.
So that said, I think I followed the original versions instructions.
Flashing back to the old version
Rom-RAv1.1.0H-signed-update.zip
the phones worked fine all night and I got it doing the things i rooted for in the first place, sharing my cells inet to my laptop etc. so I can live with this until the weekend I suppose but still want to figure out why i couldn't get cynogen mod 5 running.

Okay i have an idea what might be going on, just my guess at this point.
I think i have mix matched mt3g-a and mt3g-b files.
Here's my thinking...
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H.img - works
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img - doesn't work, sits at splash screen
Rom-RAv1.1.0H-signed-update.zip - works, but shows up in settings>about Model = ION. I think Ion is the mt3g-a flavor...
I tried today to use flashrec, the first backup of my recovery failed. tried again it reported success. closed app opened and it gave me the option to flash the cyno recovery or restor mine, i flashed the CM and when i rebooted to the recovery it would just sit there at the splash screen. i could still boot normally and into the fastboot menu... I then went and downloaded the CM 5.08 install from a mirror.
I also tried the the newest cm v6 rc2, and update-cm-4.2.15.1-signed.zip
All stuck at splash on boot.

Fixed and working, I think it was my radio. I had a mirror post over ta the CM forums, and I was pointed to the correct radio and after flashing the radio and the g version of the recovery it came up, then flashed CM and Gapps and it worked...
I was also told to update my spl, but havn't done that part yet.
*edit* username is globeadue there, post should come up with a username search

Problems with builds! (Splash screen hangs)

Hey everyone,
I am writing this because a day of research and playing about with my phone has resulted in nothing.
I recently rooted my G1 european (UK) phone and ended up with the JesusFreke build absolutely no problems...
Today I updated to the latest radio and SPL (again, no problems) and went to put on the Virtudude Roger's mod first and it froze on the splash screen, so I reverted back to original Android, rooted again and went back to JesusFreke's build.
This time I tried Cyanogen mod, which also freezes on the splash screen.
I have tried going to both these builds straight from Android 1.0 or from the JesusFreke build with no success - it just freezes on the splash screen every time.
Anyone have any advice? Maybe theres something I'm doing wrong on the way?! I use recovery mode to format and load the flash images on
So much thanks in advance!
After rooting the phone and then putting it on JesusFreke's build, you were trying to update the radio and SPL with the 2.22.19.26I radio and the 1.33.2005 SPL (Haykuro's "special" SPL - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517593)?
You do risk bricking your G1 with this SPL, but if you follow the directions in the thread exactly, you should be fine (do this at your own risk).
Also, make sure to do a wipe (Alt+W) in recovery before you try to apply (Alt+S) the build update.zip.

What SPL do you have? Are you wiping before you update?
Thanks for the great advice, I was actually following the instructions you provided and have 1.33.2005 SPL.
I just had no idea why it wasn't working, but I have now sorted it...
I put on the recovery utility from JFv1.43, format/flashed the image for Virtudude, restarted and then just left the house for a couple of hours whilst it was on the splash screen....just came back and it had booted in fine.
Now it boots fine every time (does take a few minutes to boot but worth it!)
So, all sorted now - again, so much thanks for the help - I honestly thought it was because I had an EU model or something like that; unfortunately, searching the forums for "EU" or "UK" doesn't bring up much because of the minimum character limit!!

Stuck with unootable

Followed this guide:
http://www.myhangoutonline.com/comp...als/7-root-and-upgrade-your-g1?reset-settings
The instructions mentioned to make sure the radio was updated during the process. I flashed ota-radio-2_22_19_26I on it.
The guide said check for the radio version under about your phone, but couldn't find it, so I said oh well and moved on.
Well long story short, I have the RGB bootloader, HBOOT 0.95.0000 CPLD-4.... and it's not flashing the radio, im still stuck on 1.22.12.29.
No wonder Cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 is a black screen upon boot. Ideas on recovery?

[Solved] So I screwed up [CyanogenMod to modded Rogers]

So first some background:
I have an original 1.5 Rogers HTC Magic phone. I applied the 911 update to it when it was pushed out from Rogers. It was then flashed following the CyanogenMod6.0-RC directions from their Wiki and had been working well enough up until recently.
Rogers released their 2.1 and so I decided to give it a whirl.
Downloaded RCMagic Rogers RUU 3.54.631.3 Android 2.1 for magic+ ( [Rom][NR][32A]RCMagic v5 710Mhz OC WIFI Working |Rogers 2.1[Oct 10] ) and attempted to apply it via the ClockworkMod Recovery. Am now stuck at the HTC MAGIC splash screen. It just sits there. So I tried flashing the CyanogenMod zip I had left on my SD card and am having the same issue.
Booted up in fastboot and have the following info
Code:
SAPHIRE UNKNOWN 32a ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (SAP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Apr 20 2009, 15:30:43
I suspect I screwed the pooch somewhere, though I'm thankful I can still get into both fastboot and Clockwork Recovery.
And of course, I was silly and didn't make a nandroid backup once I got everything in place the first time.
So how do I get myself back to a working phone? I couldn't find anything that would get me going where I needed, and really am just more confused.
If it makes a difference I'm running Windows7 on my PC (it's always been a pain using HTC/Rogers RUUs due to that).
Did you do a full wipe first? data/cache/dalvik?
I hadn't before I posted, no. But I just performed both Wipe options in Clockwork and I'm still hanging at the HTC MAGIC splash.
I'd be willing to bring the phone back to stock and work up from there if necessary. At least I'd be somewhere!

you have wrong radio... for that rom u need 6.35 radio...
check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794450
I noticed that last night before I went to bed.
I tried running that program as well, in fact. Though it failed to put the new radio over.
Any attempt to use it resulted in a failure message. fastboot shows that it is receiving the package but once everything gets to the phone the Switcher shows it as failed.
Update! After using the Radio Switcher Tool at work on an XP machine all is now well.
For some reason the updates wouldn't push to the phone from my Windows7 machine but then again, I've always had finicky issues like that with it.
So I'm not running the new mod and everything is working wonderfully.

[poll] got hardware ver 0003? Got root?

I recently upgraded to the Evo from the Hero. Over the last few days, it seems like a trend has been developing. Folks with hw version 0003 and sw per 3.39 have had a very hard time gaining root. Vote in my pole and tell me how it went for you. If you HAVE had success, let us know what worked for you. Again, this pole is for folks w/ hardware version 0003 who purchased the phone with 3.30 installed, and hboot 2.02 s-on
Those of you that managed to get rooted and flashing, what method did you use??
I followed this guide. Make sure you have adb working and you have the files in the right folders.

Followed same guide, I have hardware 0003, got it done. Rooted. Unrevoked forever

ver 003 also. rooted with warm 2.2 rls3 with netarchy
used unrevoked in the rooting for dummies thread at androidforums

Not yet. It goes great up to the point where I flash PC36IMG.zip, but when that is flashing, it throws an error during the radio v2 update (fail-pu) and instead of skipping bootloader, like it says in the guide, it tries to update and throws an error there, too (fail-ic). After this, it finishes the flash. I can get to recovery, I can even flash a custom recovery, but when I try to boot, it just hangs at the white HTC splash. To get it to boot, I hafta run the ruu. S-off sticks, so unrevoked is working, but I don't have root, and I can't flash custom roms. I have checked my md5sum, adb communicates correctly. Something about the pc36img file just doesn't work with my phone. I will say, the pc36img in Dan's thread doesn't throw the errors, but I still couldn't boot afterwards. Think I'm gonna step away from rooting for a day or two and just enjoy my new phone. I'll come back at this when I'm fresh, not so frustrated.
I can confirm tejasrichard's findings. Used the same method above. It threw me the radio error when flashing PC36IMG.zip. adb could not perform the rename in step 15 after this, but did accept the recovery command. Step 16 worked (no step 17), but in Step 18, the recovery failed and froze on the white HTC splash. Manually put the Amon RA and radio updates onto the SD card and flashed that sucesfully, but still froze on the HTC Splash. Had to flash back into 3.30 ruu.
I did go back and try unrevoked3 and the process said it completed, however hboot gave an error on the last step when going into the clockwork recovery and looking for the unrevoked-forever.zip files. I did reboot it and it completed a boot into something similar to 3.30 ruu with a different background. Superuser app is present.
Confirmed no root, but still have S-OFF.
4-day old phone
Hardware: 003
Android version: 2.2
Baseband version: 2.15.00.09.01
Kernel version: 2.6.32.15-g0f673ed / [email protected]#10
Build number: 3.30.651.2 CL271968 release-keys
Software number: 3.30.651.2
PRI version: 1.77_003
I voted without reading this part. "purchased the phone with 3.30 installed"
I have 003, and am a flashaholic. But I purchased mine two days after launch.
Similar experience
Adding to the thread here. Pretty new to all this. I banged my head against the wall for hours rooting my new EVO bought just a couple days ago. (hw version 003)
Managed to get S-off using Method 3 (which I think has been edited to be the only method as it's been the most reliable) from the thread...
'[TOOL][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF'
Once I had S-OFF I thought I was golden. However, I could not flash any roms through recovery. Tried Fresh, Myn, Ava...kept getting errors. Always, it was back to RUU. The only thing that has worked for me thus far was using the 'Sprint Lovers' rom at this thread:
'[ROM] 11/07/10 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.2 | 3.30.651.2 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One'
Not sure what's different about this Rom but it loads as a PC36IMG.zip file from Bootloader and not through recovery. I'm then able to boot the phone normally. Superuser, Wifi hotspot, swype, 4g, camera works fine...nice. It's basically stock Sense with rooted goodness. I actually love it and have tweaked the phone beautifully.
HOWEVER, I'm almost certain that i'm not fully rooted. (Maybe partially Nand unlocked) I have no idea. I've had to reload the ROM 3 times because I decided to go into recovery for one reason or another and gotten stuck in boot loop hell always going back to recovery. ARG!! Not sure the reason for that. I tried so many things early on that I cannot account for everything. I'm just going to roll with this ROM for now until the dust settles.
I'm following this thread closely:
'[GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF'
Supposed to downgrade your HBoot which I think may be the whole problem. We'll see. I don't have the energy to start from scratch again. I'm actually quite happy with Sprint Lovers.
Thanks for the info! I'll try that ROM soon as I can and see if it works for me.

[Q] Messed up rooting, now stuck on 1.5

So I decided to try and breathe some life into my wife's MyTouch 3g by rooting and installing cyanogenmod. I use to have a G1 with cyanogen but have been using a Samsung Vibrant for awhile. Anyway, I started by going to cyanogenmod.com and it pointed me to this wiki to get started:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=TMobile_myTouch_3G:_Rooting
I wasn't thinking clearly and should have come to XDA first, because that guide had me downgrade to 1.5 in the process of trying to root. I'm now to the point where I need to install Amon Ra's recovery instead of the Cyanogen 1.4 recovery I have on there now, but I can't get the phone to go into USB Debugging mode so I can use ADB. Even if I have the USB Debugging box checked it won't display USB debugging mode enabled in the notification bar when I plug the phone into the PC via USB. I thought I would just download Rom Manager and see if that could be my cure-all, but it won't even show up in the market because I'm on stupid 1.5! I wish I could start over with her phone on stock 2.1. Anyone have and ideas? I would greatly appreciate some help.
Here is what her fastboot screen says right now:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (SAPP30000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Apr 20, 2009, 15:20:43
Here is her About Phone info:
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.50s.20.17U_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.27-00394-gc6c6056 [email protected] #1
Build number: COC10
Figures, I finally give up and ask for help and I managed to flash Amon Ra recovery via fastboot!
Yeah, was about to say. Glad you got it straightened out.
I tried flashing the latest 2.22.23 radio from amon ra recovery and got an error during flashing. Is that step necessary or can I move on to flashing Cyanogenmod? I'm not sure which verison of Cyanogen I should go for if I'm coming from stock 1.5.
I personally would recommend 5.0.8, but that's only because 6.1 ran like crap for me. You shouldn't need the new radio, but if you still want to upgrade I would suggest going with the 2.22.28.25 radio and 1.33.0013d SPL since it'll give you more usable RAM. The 1.33.0013d SPL will lock you out of running fastboot commands, but you shouldn't really need them.
Since your already familiar with fastboot, this should be pretty easy. Just download this file and unzip it to the AndroidSDK "Tools" folder. Then open the command prompt from there and type:
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio-2.22.27.08.img
fastboot flash hboot hboot-1.33.0013d.img
fastboot flash recovery *name of recovery*.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Just replace the *name of recovery*.img with whatever you used before and yes you do need to reflash the recovery after replacing the SPL/radio.
Thanks a bunch for your advice. I already flashed cyanogen 6.1 and tiny google apps before I read your response. Everything seems to be running pretty great except for one big issue; the screen now has a weird greenish tint. I'm going to search the forums and see if anyone else had this issue. My current radio and spl seem to be doing fine, but I might flash the ones you recommended in a little while after I get the screen issue fixed.

The screen issue is because of the kernel. You just need to flash a new one. If you search the forums for the kernel corner, you'll find links to the popular kernel devs. Just grab one of their's for the 32B and flash it from recovery.

Well I flashed the radio and spl you linked to and now I get stuck in a boot loop. I guess I need to somehow push a new kernel to the phone and install it.
Put this kernel on your SD card, boot into recovery, and flash it.
I mounted the phone through recovery and put this kernel on it: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/11548-cm61-2708port-for-new-radiospl/
and it worked with no green tint. Thanks again for your help!
I'm pretty sure that's the same kernel I linked, lol. Glad you got it worked out.
