I saw that. I also noticed that his Sprint logo on the front has a yellow swoosh. Every one that I have seen is silver, same color as Sprint.
The back of his phone also had some funky stuff on it.

lol yea I saw the sprint logo in yellow, that may be a special edition I guess, what do you think?

Sprint payed to have their phone in the show for advertisement. They took the phone and made sure that their logo was lit up and bigger for advertisement reasons.

sprint has a contract with cbs if u watch csi and the other shows they use sprint phones but they never show the stock os on them csi uses the instuck (instinct sprint tech support term for the phone) a lot and it looks like the winmo theme is installed on it

if heroes was still running the man with the horn rimmed glasses would have been sporting it as well..

On TNT the Evo was on a show called Leverage. However I think it's sponsored by HTC because they previously had a Touch Pro 2.

Sprint HTC Hero (Story)

I live next to a sprint store, so yesterday morning my girlfriend and I went to get some thing to eat and stuff and afterwards I wanted to see the Hero (Becuase I really reallly really like the phone and want to replace my G1 with it soon), So I go into the sprint store and asked the lady at the front if they had any HTC Hero demos available and the lady said they did so my girlfriend and I walked to the general location where she said the demo was but sadly I couldn't find the phone and I was looking around for it until I decided to read the paper signs saying "Palm Pre" and stuff then I finally found "HTC Hero". So I saw the sign and when my eyes dropped to see the phone (I was so excited to finally see one in real life and be able to play around with it) I was so disappointed in what my eyes told my brain... They changed the style of it, WHY WOULD THEY CHANGE THE STYLE . As soon as I saw the style I said (pretty loud my gf said) "Oh what the ****?!" (I didn't even know I said it out loud let alone loud) I wasn't expecting to see a revised model (so to speak) and now I'm depressed that I might have to try to get the HTC Hero from Europe, I'm not even sure if that model would work with the AT&T Network. I want the good HTC Hero, you know the one that actually looks like a mans phone.
Sad story =[
I bet sprint had something to do with the style.
It still ran just as good as the good hero (of course) but it just wasn't the same =/
damage is done.
this phone is awesome, and awesome looking I personally don't like the jutting jaw of the GSM one.. but to each their own I suppose
Yeah still an awesome phone none the less but I just didn't know they changed the style, Rofl I love the chin.
I plan on getting one soon, I just don't want to change Carriers and be locked to a phone (I <3 Sim cards)
i guess that would kinda suck for you being that it was first time you seen the new look, when at the store, ready to possibly purchase it . for the rest of us weve seen the leaked photos of it a couple months ago. personally, its kinda grown on me....

UK Carriers

I am suprised no other carrier apart from vodafone has announced anything as stock is coming in next week. anyone else got any more info on this?
Three UK... I'm not sure why they haven't made a big official announcement yet.
When I rang them asking for an upgrade they seemed like they want me to get it...But then again the guy might have been on a commission so all he could do with me was tell me to try again when it's on their system.
I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than do business with 3 mobile again. Total waste of space.

Haha, I totally agree. I will never use them again...
Someone claimed that T-Mobile UK retentions said they would probably have it in July, but it's not on their website as "coming soon".
After T-Mobile discontinued the HD2 (which I was kinda iffy on software-wise: I do like WM6.5, but there's no future in it) I had all but decided to go with the Desire when I'm up for an upgrade in August. However, I have major misgivings about its weird PenTile display - it's faking WVGA and it seems to turn greys pink. The capacitive sensor it shares with the Nexus One also doesn't look so great.
The Galaxy S looks like it might be the better option, as long as it can be rooted and gets Froyo. (Would be nice if you could run HTC Sense on it too.) I can live without notification lights and camera flashes more than I can with a weird screen with pink issues.
Edit: The Galaxy S screen also seems to be PenTile? Gah. I suppose it has a better GPU.. can't we have a high-end Android phone here with a proper screen?
Galaxy S uses super amoled display, there is no pink instead of gray problem
Have visited one of the Vodafone shops. For several days they had Ads inside the store, today they had a plastic model to show people (as for all phones).
When I asked I was told it is comming very soon, potentionally as soon as tomorrow (as I understood the guy was speculating, but he was speaking from his experience on getting the plastic showcase models).
So I unticipate that tomorrow - monday is the day UK gets 16gig version.
Prices - free phone from 40 a month (18 month contract) or 25 + 200. Plus additional 5 pounds for 1 gig of internet allowence.
Prices are actually higher than for Desire or Nexus. Actually, they seems to be on par with IPhone.

I thought this was an artefact of PenTile RGBG displays in general. But even if it doesn't have the pink cast, text isn't going to be as nice as it would be on a true WVGA display as shown here. With fewer subpixels it can never be as sharp.
Maybe the newer technology on the Galaxy S means that the pink is gone and text is as sharp as any other LCD, but I'm not sure how the latter can be. Would be nice to see some close-ups of text on the Galaxy S screen.
Has anyone seen any good SIM Only plans other than o2 simplicity? my Iphone is currently O2 and lately ive been less than impressed with the coverage i get in my area so im a little reluctant about going o2 again.

Considering EVO...

I'm considering an EVO for me and the wife, I wanted to wait on the Samsung Epic, but there still isn't an announced release date, and I'm a little worried about the openness of Samsung with their drivers (and the 'hackability' of the Galaxy S phones).
I went to Sprint yesterday and they said they are backordered on EVOs for 4 weeks. That is just crazy. Our Verizon contract expired yesterday and I'm itching for new phones, so I thought I could probably hit the Radio Shacks and Best Buys and see if I can get lucky (chances?). If not, I'll probably just preorder the Epic the first day it's available and if I don't like it find someone with an EVO and trade.
My main questions are the issues with the EVO I've heard. The main one was the 30FPS cap. Has this effectively been fixed by the developers here and around the internet even if it renders the HDMI out useless? Do the phones seem to be holding up okay, I had heard some complaints about build quality?
Thanks for any information...
I get 55fps (tested) with HDMI output (in theory still haven't tested). Navigation is as fast as an Iphone. Radioshack and Bestbuy all told me that it was impossible to get an evo without waiting for weeks. I called the best buy on the Hispanic side of town in San Antonio and they were stocked with a bunch of em. Just call around.

only issue with the build quality is I got a very small barely noticeable crack below the power button
bought my 4th evo on Wednesday at a local sprint store(last one they had). The guy behind me was PISSEEDDDD. first come first serve. Keeping checking the stores.
It was easy for me to get an Evo. The Sprint rep at the local store said that if you're a new customer you take priority over existing. I ordered mine from the Sprint store (because they were sold out at every location we went to.) and low and behold two days later he called me and said he just got 14 in stock and wanted to make sure I got mine before others started coming in for upgrades.
I am really enjoying the Evo so far and still tinkering on it daily. My GF says it is way to big for her interest but she did say it was a beautiful device.
EVO's are decent out of the box....
fabulous after rooting. 9.0 out of 10 for me and getting better.
After my experience with the Samsung Moment...and other Samsung products (Fridge, Blu-ray, other phones, etc...) I will be hard pressed to ever own another Samsung product. I think they rush things to market unfinished (ice marker on the fridge SUCKS..no fix, Blu-ray networking SUCKS...even for an experienced networking geek.
Amoled screens have terrific blacks. However, the resolution is less sharp to the eye due to the way they manage the RBG palette (search for details). To me they look a bit fuzzy compared to the LCD screens. My Novatec screen with the FPS fix is stunning.
THe Evo is a fine phone that will be in my pocket for awhile.

[POLL] Sprint Feb Announcement

What's your gut feel?
All of the poll options seem extremely relevant.
SVDO - Technically the HTC Thunderbird (Verizon EVO) is going to support this, at least that's what leaked documents propose. It'd make sense for Sprint to launch something similar.
Nationwide 4G coverage - It's really starting to pick up, they just lit up 4g in my area and i've heard a lot of reports of new 4g locations going in all over the country
CMDA iPhone - You have to admit that the technology is there, all it would take is an agreement with Apple and Sprint could support the iPhone just as well as Verizon. I find this one to be the least likely, although possible
Dual core phones - I'm sure I'm not the only one that noticed that ATT / Verizon stole the show and Sprint had no new phone announcements at CES... It seems likely that they'd try and sign on with a handset manufacturer to get some competition going for ATT / Verizon and their Tegra handsets.
Wow, none of those options are "industry firsts"... good job!
Add a 3D display phone option and I'll vote.
wow and not a one cept the 3d phone is anything android related. people need to get it through there head the announcement will have something to do with android phone/tablet with the blogs getting invites.
if iphone is announced then it will deff NOT be the only announcement, though the likelyhood they even announce it to begin with is very low with having android blogs there.
Funny. I already started a poll like this haha.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
LG 3d phone without the need for glasses is my best guess.
Pocket posted...
I really don't want to see a 3D phone, but since David Blaine is going to be there, I have a feeling this may be it.

You really think Sprint is going to launch and industry first with their announcement?
Nationwide 4g coverage actually would be an industry first..... and technically Verizon hasn't gone public about SVDO... so that'd be an industry first for the US too
.... you guys really think a 3d phone is going to appealing? I think this 3d stuff is blown way out of proportion. I've seen it, used it.... its not really that impressive.
ive been messing with my companies sprint rep trying to see if she would tell me anything about the annoucment and she wouldnt tell me anything other then "its a device..."
cause 3d is gay, and would be an epic fail. Enjoy ****ing up your eyes watching a 3d screen 24/7

[Device] Evo Shift 4G for any Dev's

cleaning up my pack-ratting ways...
Looking for either a currently active developer or one who might want to take a crack at tinkering with it, or who used to develop for it but had their own break and have interest in returning (despite WiMax being kaput)
Sprint branded HTC Evo Shift 4G, I will try to get it fixed up so it will come totally stock
screen had a small ding in it over the visual area, not really noticeable when its on or in use but... im picky, so i bought a replacement, BUUTTT got a replacement phone and never got around to replacing it, will come with that as well
It hits the trash can Friday if I no-one wants
*HEY you say, wheres the price!, ney I say, no price!
NOTE: I also have a Sprint branded HTC Evo 3D thread up over there as well
