Android 2.1 Freezing Issues - Android Software Development

I got the darkstone Eclair Desire Build from gamesquare.co.uk. It loads up fine, but it freezes when in Android OS. I'm trying to add things to the home screen, this is where it freezes, specifically at the programs list after adding an app or two to the home screen. No error messages, just freezes.
My phone is the HTC HD2.
Should I be using a different Android build for this phone?
Thanks for the help!!! I really want to get this working!

It also freezes when I try to setup my GMail account on here.

Seems to not freeze when I use Launcher Pro, rather than HTC Sense. But, I'd rather use HTC Sense.

Certain manilla 2d functions stopped working, any suggestions?

Hey guys, I appreciate all the work you have done on the manilla app. I am having a couple of issues though and am wondering if anyone knows what I can do. Everything was working perfectly on my i760, but all of a sudden I can no longer add contacts to the contacts screen, programs to the program screen, and if I hit the Sync Data, Wallpaper, Sounds or about buttons on the settings tab nothing happens either. I really would like this to work out since I loved using it for a few days while it was working, but now I can't do things that are essential to this app. I realize this is a beta, but is there anything that you guys may know of that I can do to get this back up and running correctly? Thanks in advance guys.
same experience
I have had the same experience running m2d on a iphone clone wm6 device (m88) ......lost count of the number of times I have wiped it all and started fresh : but ive got about 85% of this thing working .......what is essential is to go one step at a time......reset between each step ......even when you load m2d and the md2 patch for non htc devices (even though I read somewhere to load the two contiguously) ....then 1 app at a time ......still cant get the audiomanager to work or the photo/ camera app .....just renoved them with the m2dconfig app ......
I tried this many times and got into the "loaded one too many apps mode" ...things stopped working and I had to start fresh again .......be patient

[Q] Flashed Froyo on MT3G 1.2; a couple of concerns

I finally took the plunge and rooted/loaded a new ROM on my wife's phone. Everything went smoothly and I figured that the best/easiest choice for a new ROM would be the CyanogenMod ROM 6.0 that just came out.
Since I loaded the new ROM, I've noticed a few things that I hope someone can help me fix.
First, one of the main reasons that I wanted to load the ROM is so I could get rid of that Amazon Mp3 app. The Froyo ROM I installed still had it
Also, I've noticed that when I try and rotate the screen, it takes several seconds (some times close to a minute) to actually rotate. This mainly happens right when I unlock the phone.
My wife says that the option to have separate tones play when an e-mail comes in vs an SMS has gone away. I haven't played with it, so IDK about this. She just wants to know if the message received was an email or a text.
There were some other things, but I don't remember what they were, so if I remember I'll post. But those are the big ones. If there is anything I can do to fix them, let me know please! Also, if there is a better, smoother, faster ROM for MT3G 1.2 than the CYGN 6.0, I wouldn't be opposed to reflashing.
Thank you for any help!

Let's start off by moving this to General.
The best way to remove a system app (Yes, Amazon MP3 is considered a system app) is by installing Titanium Backup and using that app to remove any system app that you don't want installed. I used it recently to remove Street View (Street.apk) and I was able to install the newest version from Market after a reboot.
There should be no reason why it would take any more than a couple of seconds to rotate your home screen. How many widgets and shortcuts do you have? Try locking the Launcher app to memory. That may help.

Thank you! Sorry for posting in wrong forum. I debated General and Android... should have gone General!
As per the homescreen, I believe she only has 2 widgets: Analog Clock and some task killer widget. IDK if the task killer widget is the root of the problem, but I will have her remove it and see if that fixes it. I also don't know how to check if it is using a lot of system resources. Is there some kind of Taskmgr app that will tell me if that app is a resource hog?
Thank you for your response!
That Task Killer Widget. Oh My, that is one resource hogger. I tried it on my Tilt with Froyo ... it hogged up badly . I gave up, and got me a new myTouch 3G 1.2 off ebay.
Ok, I got the sound thing all working (really easy. Should have looked b4 I asked) But the rotation is still really slow
I was given a Droid to help develop a mobile application recently, and even though it has similar specs to the MT3G, and the same OS version, there is not lag in the screen rotation. I've installed most of the same apps on the Droid and still there is no lag.
Is there something else that could be causing the lag? Any thoughts?
Thanks
Have you uninstalled task killer yet? they actually do way more harm than good.
Froyo on Mt3g 1.2?
Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but I thought the only Froyo images for MT3g 1.2 were buggy at best and didn't support wifi or camera, among other things.
A guy I work with just put Froyo on his G1 and says it works faster than Eclair. I want in on that action!
As a MT3G user, I've found that the 6.0 Rom from CY is horrible with a Mytouch sadly. It's the rom not agree'ing with the Mytouch that is the problem, not the phone.
I'd suggest the 6.1 RC1 Mod from Cy, or this linked Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814142
I've had no problem with the linked rom working for me. I had some minor issues with the RC1 not recieving all my texts, though honestly I upgraded my radio at the same time as changing over to the new Rom, so I'm not sure if it was the ROM or the Radio.

Rosie restarting after visiting Pocketnow.com

I've been googling around but haven't found any simmilar symptoms:
On my stock desire z after browsing certain websites (the desktop version of Pocketnow.com is one in particular) when I exit back to the stock sense home (rosie) I get the green htc logo and "Loading...". I know this is rosie crashing in the background and recovering.
I'm using the stock browser. I'm also rooted but haven't upgraded to 1.72 yet, and wouldn't want to unless I could be sure it will solve this anoying issue. And I also read about some nasty sms bugs being introduced in the newer version...
It's probably not an adobe flash problem, because I have it set to on demand and other websites that are heavy on flash don't cause this.
I have a lot of apps installed, but almost everything in the internal memory, so it's very probably not a widget on card kind of problem.
I do have the stock htc bookmarks widget (with webpage thumbnails) on the homescreen but the same happened when I removed it temporarily.
I could switch to an other launcher but I like the htc look and feel
Anybody else with simmilar problem? Any suggestions to fix this?
I had this problem and it was quickdesk causing it. Don't know if you have that installed or not.

No quickdesk, and i did a quick overview of my installed apps, and I don't think I have any simmilar task switchers (other than the one built into the pull down status bar on the desire z). But thanks very much for your suggestion!
I did another test however, the same thing happens when I use a different browser. Browsing pocketnow.com with XScope Lite resulted in the same sense crash :-(

Freeze/uninstall HTC Sense

I'm running LauncherPro on my phone. Even though all launcher-related defaults are set for LauncherPro, the HTC Sense is still listed as a running process. I don't observe any problems with that, but nevertheless I'd like to know if there are any known issues with, say, freezing HTC Sense using Titanium Backup.
Actually, I just froze it and the phone seems to work fine (and, as one would expect, HTC Sense is no longer in the list of running processes). However, it will take time to test if everything really works. Maybe someone knows something already?

If you don't want sense, why not just flash a non-sense ROM like CM? Save the hassle of masking it with a bandaid and fix the root issue.
Flash a ROM so u dont have WM
Er... I'm not talking about getting rid of the entire HTC Sense GUI platform. I just want to replace the launcher. "HTC Sense" also happens to be the name for the launcher application, which is probably why people confuse one with another. Again, I'm perfectly comfortable with HTC Sense GUI platform, I just want to replace HTC Sense application. Why would anyone want to reflash the entire ROM just to replace the launcher application is not exactly clear to me.
I've been running, Launcher Pro while having HTC Sence app frozen by TiBackup for a day now. No problems so far.

Gingerbread + SenseUI slow/crashing?

Posting on behalf of my coworker, who has the EVO 4G. Ever since his Gingerbread update came out, his phone frequently flashes the "HTC" green icon on a white background, and then all his widgets need to reload their content.
To me it seems SenseUI is crashing, so I said I'd do a little research. The Search button isn't working for me though, so I hope someone can help!
(Oh, and if this is just "the way it is" is there a way for him to go back to stock Froyo without rooting?)
If you get the stock Rom img you put it on the root of the SD card then go into bootloader then wait for it to ask you if you want to update then push volume up for yes and van ha

Yea, I have to admit, that is annoying. Mine only does it when exiting some apps and seems to be very random. Sense doesn't actually crash, it just seems to have to reload, like it was stopped, or closed.
If he is not rooted, their is no way to go back to 2.2 though.

Thanks for the "bad news". Pulling the battery last night helped, he hasn't had any issues yet today. I'm wondering if Sense has a memory leak or if GB is unloading too much of its memory.
I was having the same problem since the OTA, (non-rooted, stock btw) constant Sense restarting when exiting apps or going to the home screen. On another forum thread's suggestion, I removed all task killer apps. In my case these were Android Assistant and Advanced Task Killer. Since removing those apps and rebooting earlier today, I have not seen Sense restart once. Give this a try if applicable and see if it helps.
Edit: As luck would have it, as soon as I posted it happened again after exiting the Amazon App Store.......back to the drawing board.
In my case it is definitely not a task killer, as I am not running any task killers. But it does act like it is shutting down like a task killer would do it. I even tried freeing up memory by uninstalling all system apps that I don't need. I now have more memory available than I ever have, yet it still keeps happening. I have a feeling that it is going to take another update from HTC to fix it.
I'm having the same issue.

If you want to believe the techs on Sprint EVO forum, they say that virus programs such as Lookout are at the root of some of these problems, the phone needs to be reset, and HTC sense requires the data to be erased through the application screen. I have doe the reset, and erase Sense data and still occasionally had the problem. I have now uninstalled Lookout to see if that eliminates the problem
I'm now on my second evo ad the update broke the first one...with the sense constantly crashing and random apps force closing I took it back to the store and demanded a new one...I'll not make the mistake of accepting anymore ota "updates"...

Update, I ran across a post on the Sprint forums in which someone said that HTC claimed that Sense being booted from memory and reloading when you exit some apps was caused by some virus programs. So I shut off Lookout security, and I haven't had the Sense reload problem since, been over a day now.
i dont use lookout and have the same problem. if i run any heavy apps, such as web browsing with many windows or streaming video via the browser, when i go to "home" sense has to restart. it could be just gingerbread shutting sense down to free up resources for heavy apps.
and yes, its bloody annoying.
After playing with it for three days now, I have determined to my own satisfaction that it is indeed an HTC Sense GB problem.
If I turn off all apps that actually do work when running in the background, like Lookout and SystemPanel, I do not get the Sense reload problem. Unfortunately, If I have any program running that is doing things when in the background, Sense gets booted from memory and has to reload. For example, I start a market download, and while waiting for it, I play a game of solitaire. When I exit out of the game, Sense has to reload, and more than likely the app download has to start over.
It appears to me that GB's memory management is just not working as good as it did in Froyo.

I continue to have the problem also. I do not have a virus program as I did I did not install one after my reset to factory. Where do we complain, on the Sprint forum.
This is the post and link to the thread I started on the Sprint forum:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/70794
HTC Sense restarting randomly and changing the wallpaper to one that I never used on my phone, began after the first GB update. It has gotten worse after the recent update. HTC Sense restarts when leaving the market and other apps Dolphin HD Browser and others, but not in every instance.
When the phone is booting up, just before showing the lockscreenit it will show the wallpaper that is the first one in the wallpaper section the colorful one with bubbles. I have never used any of the wallpapers because I have always used the originale scene installed on the phone. Now on several occasions when the phone started it put the Wallpaper on my home screens, but did not change the apps and widgets I had on the Home Pages. Luckily I had saved my scene and was able to get it back.
My phone has been reset to factory twice, initially be me and two days ago by a Sprint tech and a sercive center.
Sprint something continues to be wrong with these updates that is affecting HTC Sense, it is broke. Please, everyone else sith HTC Sense restarting randomly or changing you wallpaper, post and describe your exact problem. Possibly we will get Sprints attention.
I took my phone to Sprint to have the cracked camera lens replaced. Instead of doing just that an idiot savant installed this gingerbread update. Not only did the update delete dozens of programs but it also caused me to have the htc logo splash page appear several times a day. I was not happy when I found out Sprint applied the update & I'm even more displeased now.
It occurs when exiting programs & entering others. However I have not been able to discern a pattern. I do have lookout installed but I do not have any task kllers installed.
