[Q] Help! System menu size shrank! - HD2 General

After a soft reset, the overall size and font size of all the menus in all programs suddenly shrank! The boldness of the font also dissappeared. Have any ideas what happened?

you probably used something like bsbtweaks to re-enable windows menus instead of the htc menus.

I tried your idea out, but that is not what has happened... the font has gone from something like this to some thing like this

settings menu all settings system screen font size, perhaps? (though i doubt it..)

Nope! I tried that first... I usually use a smaller setting. I feel like a registry setting may have been changed somehow. Perhaps, I uninstalled an app just before the reset (I've GOT to stop fooling with my HD2 after midnight)!

Please, does ANYBODY have any idea. This is driving me batty!
Not only did the font shrivel up, but the size of the menu box itself shrank.

If it is driving you that batty...I would do a hard reset...and it will get rid of all your problems...did you install something before the soft reset that might have caused it>?!

Am I going crazy ! or is the font getting even smaller?!!

Enlarged start menu - tips and help!

Hi, I'm in need of a working "enlarged start menu"-application on my SE X1. The thing is that I really much need it to be freeware, and I suppose that "XDA-Team Enlarged Start Menu" isn't (correct?). I'm thinking about developing the application myself, but I would like to know if anyone here has any information about where to start? Is is just a matter of changing some registry keys? XML-files? Thankful for all the help i can get!
as far as i understand, the XDA Enlarged Start Menu is just taken from one of the other HTC devices and is not "payware" or anything like that.
if anyone was developing an enlarged Start Menu, i'd love to see a kinda fullscreen version, this would make it much easier to navigate. kinda in the style of iContact or the latest volume control taken from Diamond. i don't really se why the start menu needs to be only a percentage of the screen size anyway, just seems like bad design, they've made it look like the Start Menu on a Windows Desktop PC so that we all know it's Windows, but have not actually thought about the interface being user friendly for a handheld device. for drunk people with fat fingers. like me.

yes man, I absolutely agree !!! It´s funny, I never really thought about start menu, but now when I read your suggestion it just seems really crazy how much possibilities for improvement there are.
I thought about a completely customizable start menu, fullscreen.
Maybe with a kind of plugin system, volume / vib toggle, backlight strength slider, power off+soft-reset buttons....*sigh* THAT would be cool !

Martin
What about Touch Launcher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433862
It´s a normal app, but I was talking about a REAL replacement. It should hide when I tap "Start" again, and, as I said, it should be really customizable.
To all devs out there: Is anyone interested in coding such an app ? I think this is desperatly needed to make WM a bit more usable, although there are already tons of good software out there.

Martin

hmmm, main thing i want is fullscreen. that one seems nice feature-wise, but it's not what i'm after.
devs, do any of you know how they changed the size of the Start Menu from the old style to the new enlarged one?
if we know how to do this then maybe we can hack the existing app to at least lengthen right across the width of the screen... or if it was hacked with a config we could pick how many items we wanted...
this could be a great project for the coders!

Well, quickmenu is _almost_ perfect. If it only was more finger-friendly. Being able to scroll trough menus like in icontact and all so many other apps would be great for it, but at least having twice as big menu entries would be enough in most cases. It has all the features needed, it just mimicks the original start menu a bit too much
Touch menu from touch commander suite is exactly what you want, and it has and application menu enlarged. Unfortunaly its not freeware.
Here is little something about system fonts:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms901091.aspx
By changing some registry values you can change size of start menu (including font size etc.) and popup menu as well.

Ohh thankyou! But, using PHM Regedit I've tried changing the Ht-value for BarFnt, which didn't do anything. Perhaps you have some pointers to what I should try?

BarFnt values are for menu bars (for example: bottom bar in total commander).
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu\PopFnt
is for popup menu (screen 1 shows Ht value of 1200)
Truly, I don't know how to change start menu font size via registry.
If you want to have full screen menu try mort buttons
can you launch mort buttons by tapping Start on the screen?
maybe by editing the registry ?
If anyone can duplicate the Touch Commander one it would be perfect. I have touchcommander but do not use it anymore, unfortunately you have to install the whole program to be able to use the Large menu option.
The great thing about it is it enlarges menus in all programs.
Sorry for bringing up an older thread, but I think this is still unsolved!
I also would like to have a fullscreen start menu. I tried quickmenu 2.8,but it just isnt what Im looking for. For me it would be fine if clicking on the start menu would bring up a dialog like when you click startmenu -- programs.
Hope that someone has an idea!
QUICKMENU 2.8 for me too... ^_^
I'd only add that scroll movement and ability to customize the start icon (it already does this, but only with one icon).

One nice tweak for the Xperia

The menues in like Outlook are incredible small, use this tweak from the Diamond tweak thread to make them more finger friendly
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\gwe\menu\popfnt
and change the value for the "Ht" entry to "1000" decimal
Now I just need to change the startmenu for it is also incredible small - and the HTCenlargestartmenu cab available makes the start menu funny on Swedish OS. In English OS I am sure it will work fine and it also sets the menues bigger like in the regtweak above
Cheers! This is just the sort of thing we'll need once we start getting our X1's :]
You can make it a lot easier if you use SK-Tools. You can make a lot of changes including the font-sizes. No need for manual changes and it has a set-back-function, if I remember well. I used it for my G900 too, which has WVGA too at the same size

I must be blind, I have owned this app since years but i have not found how to change the startmenu size - must look harder
Start sk-tools, then tune-up, then got through the tabs at the bottom to fonts or so (after colours, sorry, I have the german version and don't know the english names), there the 8. point is menu-bar-font-size (or so). Play here and you see the start-menu grow But remember, it needs a softreset to get the new settings!

What do you mean with the size of the start menu? If you make the font bigger, the start menu, using this font, gets bigger too. I have tried it and got a start menu up to nearly the width of the screen (much too big).

Trouble with button settings

I am having trouble setting my right soft key-it defaults to "today screen" after every soft reset, or even panel change. It dousn't seem to matter what panel that I am in.
Also, is there any fix to change some of the other hard keys.

Yeah I have TF3D, but even if I don't use that panel it still changes it....is it a problem with the TF3D?
as far as i'm aware, yes.
please see the issues in the first post of this thread :

i'm waiting for the issue to be fixed before i re-install tf3d.

Changing Default Keyboard?

Just out of interest and im not really a fan of the default one. I have recently installed the Touch HD? Keyboard cab which has a really nice keyboard that is big enough to be used with fingers, is there anyway of setting this as the default instead of always having too select it instead of the small blue one? Hopefully it's just a registry setting but I can't seem to spot anything.
I don't think anyone seems to have asked this before either, certainly nothing came up in a search of default keyboard.
I don't have my X1 yet, so I'm afraid I can't comment on your problem.
But, I was wondering, does the hardware keyboard still work correctly (@, etc.), and have you lost predictive contacts with the hardware keyboard also? I'm trying to get a list of what to install when I get my X1, and I'm kinda stuck with regards to the keyboard, Touch Pal seems to be the way to go, as it doesn't replace the original DLL.
I went into settings->Input and switched it to full QWERTY, Now the HTC one pops up instead of the blue one.
by doing that, after soft reset the ketboard returns to the original small blue one...
I tried to switch it in iput settigs but i still ge the blue one. Do I need to do anything on the registry?
Get SKTools (not the Standard one, the full one) and set default keyboard there. The standard WM6 config page doesn't seem to remember settings when you try set the Touch HD keyboard as default.

I have installed a few different keyboards on WM6 with my xperia and all of them have not changed the layout of the hardware keyboard, it has not changed at all. It's only the software keyboard. Predictive contacts? Predictive words? It certainly suggests words on the normal blue one, though I haven't noticed it on the Touch HD one, though to be honest I don't like anything predictive.
I have also been changing it and yes it sticks with it but as soon as the phone is switched off and back on, it changes back so I presume it's something in the registry but i've no idea what to look for. Certainly "keyboard" doesn't show anything or indicate anything that could be changed.

Changes to default keyboard via SKTools is permanent, it stays even after phone is switched off/on.
Thanks for the help thus far. I have been using SKTools since you mentioned it now and have found on a couple of occassions that it doesn't save and I need to change it. The majority of the time it does. Now you can enable/disable certain parts but the wierd thing is you cannot fully default to a different keyboard. When I select the Full QWERTY keyboard as default it sets and says Completed 1 in a little pop up box (I think it's completed) Regardless once you do that, if you try and disable or remove the default Keyboard (wm6 default) it says that you cannot because it is set at default and you must select another to be the default first. Which contradicts itself because it won't let you.
It's obviously a registry key somewhere that can be changed but to hell if I can find it. Im only using SK tools for this purpose so it would be nice to find it and then remove the utility.
Any further ideas?
how come i also install the HD keyboard but i doesnt seem to work??? even when i change to compact keyboard it still remain the same.... someone help mi pls....

did you soft reset after installing??
Here's the registry setting that did the job for me:
## ENABLE HTC FULL QWERTY AS DEFAULT KEYBOARD ##
RegWriteString("HKCU","\ControlPanel\SIP","Default Im","{36BC8FF6-8241-4c36-ABDE-204885471FEE}")

Thanks Prosto that did the trick though I seem to have broke something. I don't think this is related but...
After I did the registry change I uninstalled SKTools and restarted the phone, then tried to start windows media player. While it starts, as soon as I try to play any type of music/video, look in the library or update library the phone freezes and I have to take the battery out to reset it. Don't understand where I was going wrong with this, i've obviously buggered something up but not being able to listen to my music is a big downer! Don't suppose you would have any ideas?

Largetitelbar Prorblem

hello together. I have a small problem I have the touch IT_Blackstone_Largetitlebar on my x1 played and now I do not like it more, and now I can no longer deinstalliren (again, make away) what can I do that I'm back again titlebar get old. I hope it without the flash or without loss of data is (reset). Thank you in advance. Sorry for my bad English
i have the same question. i installed this app because i thought it would make the items in the title bar larger and easier to select with a fiinger. as this is not the case i now want to uninstall it, can anyone help? i tried using the uninstall app and it said part of the program could not be removed
To disable the Enlarged Title bar (when you click on a notification) to the default WM behavior:
With registry editor:
Go under HKLM->Software->HTC->EnlargeTitleBar
Change "Enable" key value from 1 to 0.
Restart.
thank you, will try that when i get a chance
or just use sktools software to uninstall, thats wat i did any way
