Extend battery life - Hero, G2 Touch General

Some sensible advice here ...

Nice find. Apparently the best way to condition your battery is to run it down to 5%, then turn off, go into recovery (assuming you have a custom recovery), wipe battery stats, turn back off, leave to charge to full.

battery issues

i know im posting int he Development section but i think this is suppose to be here for a good cause. iv had fresh 2.0d for a while and had battery problems and i went to DC 2.08 and i STILL have battary problems.
when im charging it always thinks its a USB charge, even when plugged into wall, and the awake time stills fully 100% and takes forever to charge.
when i have a full charge and i go throughout my day my awake time is always only either an hour behind or a few minutes behind my up time. my battery drains so fast.
now, im not a noob i know all the battery ticks...turning off mobile data, blah blah blah, all that good stuff. i do all of that but NOTHING seems to work.
try one of my fixxxedroms, there are no awake time or battery issues.
Fixxxer...you so funny
For the battery, try the battery recalibration
From Cynagog:
Battery recalibration
If you're experiencing higher than normal battery drain, try the following:
1. Charge the phone to full battery; power off and let it keep charging until the light is green.
2. Boot to recovery mode and go to console (or adb shell) and type:
mount -a
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
1. Reboot the phone and use it normally, but don't charge until it shuts off.
2. Recharge the phone completely and then use as you normally would.
Note: Newer Amon_Ra recoveries have an option to delete the battery stats, do this in place of the console commands above, but charge/discharge as stated.

Ive seen 2 ways to recondition battery...which one is the RIGHT way?

So which way is the RIGHT way to recondition the battery?
A. By Sombionix
1. Charge phone completely, leave plugged into power
2. Boot into recovery
3. Wipe battery stats
4. Reboot
5. Remove power cable
6. Drain that sucker all the way
7. Recharge fully
8. Rejoice!"
OR
B. By Someone else (Idk who, sorry if it is you)
1. Let it die completely
2. Charge it completely
3. Wipe battery stats
4. Reboot
5. Your done.
Which way is the right way?
I personally have seen the first one work pretty good on my old MyTouch3G. I have never done this to my Vibrant but like I said, the first option used to work for my other phone pretty good.
Theyre both essentially the same:
Drain to 0
Charge to 100 (while off)
Boot into recovery/wipe battery states (while still plugged in)
Then drain battery again (I don't charge my phone until its 1-3%)

I don't see how they are the same.
Sorry to hijack your thread, but just to clarify.
Does my phone need to be rooted/have a custom rom/modified in any way before I can recondition my battery?
I booted into recovery and couldn't find the option to wipe battery.

Basic drain, recharge, wipe, drain
Only the first way, the second way conditions, kind of, then erases the stats... :/

Yeah, I've been looking all over to figure out how to do this. I found this after some searching. I'm going to try this when I get off work.
Found this:
""HOW TO RECONDITION YOUR BATTERY
If your battery seems to drain fast, or if you are changing roms, you might want to try the following to help your battery. Master posted the following instructions (this assumes you have root and clockwork recovery):
1.) Drain your battery to the point it shuts off on it's own..
2.) Plug it in & let it charge over night (While it is still off)
3.) Launch into ClockWork Recovery by holding the "VOL UP", "VOL DOWN", & "Power" release those buttons after you see the second Vibrant screen.
4.) Press "reinstall packages" (It should take you to the Clockwork Mod Recovery screen, If it didn't then press "reinstall packages' again)
5.) Go to "advanced"
6.) Press "Wipe Battery Stats"
7.) Reboot
** I drain my battery to as low as it will go, but not all the way. I also charge it for only about an extra hour max, once it's fully charged. **""
so the only debate is whether battery stats should be reset when the battery is full, or when it's practically empty.
I've never wiped battery stats and never had issues, even switching between batteries on my G1. Just drain till out dies then recharge. I've had it last on 1-2% for a a few hours before, but it always recalibrates its self after the next full charge.

So are you saying we need to be rooted? To use the clockwork recovery?

Why are you guys insisting on DRAINING before CHARGING and then WIPING stats? The first drain won't do anything and even if it did, you're wiping the stats soon after.
Just charge, wipe, drain, charge. That's it.
where do you guys find the "advanced" and "wipe battery" option? im on a Tmobile vibrant and when i boot into recovery and then reinstall packages, i only get the option to:
reboot system now
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data
when i click reinstall packages again, it does a scan and says "e: cant open /sdcard/update.zip, Installation aborted"
thnx

You need to download clockwork recovery from market and flash the program within the application.

Just so we're clear "conditioning" the battery is a misnomer. Lithium Ion batteries do not need "conditioning" in the electrochemical sense that say Nickel Cadmium batteries do. What you are doing is calibrating the internal charging systems awareness of battery states.
I've tried either method, and cannot note any significant difference between the two. So long as your starting the calibration with a clean slate and a battery in an effective 0% or 100% state you're effectively establishing a baseline that the software can work with.

This.
And since it's a lithium-ion battery, you really shouldn't be draining it to absolute zero, ever. EVER. So if you're going to "condition" do it at 100%
I see so many people on these forums complaining about bad battery life and how they reconditioned their battery 27 times this week.
STOP.
The best thing you can do for your battery is charge early and often.

once battery is drained, instead of recharging it while its in the phone... will it be the same if i recharge the battery seperately, then when its fully charged... slip it inot the phoen and THEN do this again? i have 3 batteries lol

Thanks for this useful information. I have a desktop charger that charges my two spare batteries, so I don't use the phone to charge the batteries. Given that "conditioning" simply calibrates the phone, would this method help my battery life at all?

Yes, you do.

Battery Stats

Question: Does anyone know if it's ok to boot on Clockwork and wipe the batter stats? I flashed my phone last night to midNIGHT 2.5 w/ext4 with low battery charge and this morning within 2 hours of unpluging it from a full charge I was down to 18% and pretty much all I did was listen to music for about 30 minutes total time. Any thoughts? I'm not running a bunch of apps or widgets and Im using ADW launcher Ex
You should have a full battery before you wipe battery stats.
Try this:
Charge with the phone on until 100%
Turn the phone off, unplug it, plug it back in and charge again until it is done.
Turn the phone back on, unplug it, plug it back in, and make see if it is at 100%
Then wipe battery stats.
Or if you have an external battery charger, just charge and bump charge a time or two, then wipe battery stats.

[Q] Wipe the battery stats am I interpreting this right?

I have allready read:
Battery recalibration (Thanks to Cyanogen for this and to fachadick for bringing it to my attention).
If you're experiencing higher than normal battery drain, try the following:
1. Charge the phone to full battery; let it keep charging until the battery says it is fully charged. Do not just wait until the light is green, it isn't always fully charged, causing a lot of inaccuracies. (You can check by going to: Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> Battery Level = Full.)
2. Boot to recovery and wipe battery stats.
(To have the most accurate of battery stats, reboot the phone immediately after wiping the battery stats and wait for your ROM to boot completely to the desktop. Once your entire boot is done and you have full access to the phone, go ahead and pull the charger and continue.)
3. Do not charge the phone until after draining the battery completely, resulting in it automatically shutting off. Take out the battery, and keep trying to turn on your phone until it will not turn back on at all.
4. Recharge the phone completely and then use as you normally would.
This is a method that has been proven to work, I am sure there are other ways. My battery lasts longer after doing this and the reading is much more accurate. It might be advisable to do this after every ROM install if you want the most battery life and most accurate battery reading by the phone's software.

My question is dose the phone need to be off or on for stage 4 the recharging of the battery?
If it can be off for stage 4. Dose it need to be charged in one sitting or can I charge it partially then take it to work and then charge it the rest of the way before I turn the phone back on?
This my second attempt at doing a battery stats wipe. The first time I tried I left the phone on wile charging and the battery only charged to 3800mV calming it was at 100%. I had to bump charge it 3 times over 3 hours before the battery was up to 4100mV-4200mV and clmaing 100% charge capacity.
Evo 4g Ur3 Stock root Seidio 3500mAh extended life battery.
1) You can have it on
2) NO! charge it from 0-100% in one sitting
I did it according to the above with my 1&2 and im getting accurate readings now as well as the battery life i should have.

I wonder if this means that I will not be able to have proper battery stats as my phone likes to stop charging and claim that it's at 100% when its actually at 50-80%/ (It dose this 95% of the time... It even did it with the stock battery stock battery a couple of times)

Battery inaccurate after boot

Hi all
since a week or so i have a strange problem with my sgs and i hope you can help me to fix it
Everything works just fine (battery is accurate) until i switch off / reboot the phone
but at next boot the battery reports a very low value
(e.g. the phone has 55% battery left and after the reboot it reports only 8%)
with Froyo 2.2.1 (Speedmod Kernel) it would stay at that level until the battery has really drained to that point
With GB (JVQ - Galaxian Kernel) the battery percentage increases slowly
What i tried so far:
first of all, i deleted the battery stats for a few times and because that didn't work i upgraded to JVQ (with repartitioning and all), but that didn't solve the problem either
i don't really know what to do anymore and i hope someone can help me
thanks
Just do a few drain/ charge cycles and that should sort it
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
First off, wiping batterystats.bin alone won't help.
Try this:
1. Charge to 100% until it says unplug charger.
2. Wipe batterystats.bin from recovery, unplug and then reboot
3. Drain your phone's battery until it shuts itself down
4. Charge to 100% without interrupting the charge
5. Enjoy :3
thanks for the quick replay!
unfortunately thats basically what i have already done
since the problem happened the first time, i have charged the phone at least 5 times and wiped the battery stats for 2 or 3 times right after charging the phone to 100%
its true that normally i don't drain the battery completely, but yesterday i have done just that and than let the phone charge overnight - but that didn't solve the problem
i will try to fully discharge the phone a few more times and load the battery while the phone is switched off
still i hope someone has an other suggestion how to solve this annoying problem
thanks
lol - stop deleting the batterystats.bin for starters.
The batterystats needs to indentify the top and bottom markers such as 0% - 100%, delete it ONCE.
Firstly, turn the phone off, charge the phone to 100%, bump charge it, till 100% truely.
This means, unplug...then plug it in again until you keep getting 100% show up.
Boot up into recovery then delete the batterystats.bin.
Use it heavy, activate everything and drain it. Make sure it is compeltely drained, try turning the phone back on, take the battery out for about 2 mins, try turning it on again, if it doesnt turn on, you've drained it.
Plug your charger in, do not turn the phone on, let it charge to 100%, again, bump charge it until 100% truely full, turn the phone on and let it run its natural course this time.
Do not delete the batterystats.bin again, you will have to repeat the process, it will take a good 2/3 times of charge/discharge for the stats to settle.
Hopefully helps dude! Good luck
thanks pidz!
just to clarify: i have had my sgs for a half year now and i never wiped the battery stats until last week
But i haven't tried bump charging jet - i really don't like that process as it is bad for the battery but might be worth a try, thanks
it usually happens with non original batteries. did you changed a battery? or maybe you got a fake one with you phone?
