Bad Sony phones

Is it just me or are sony phones terrible in quality?!?! I'm saying this because I was wondering if anybody else is worried about the longevity of the phone as far as the bugs that may be involved in the phone considering i have never met a person that has a single compliment to give to a sony phone?!?!?!

Well if it comes to ATT (it wont, but if) and i decide to get it, i wont be worried. I know people who've had their SE phones for a really long time and they've lasted pretty well.

xperia x1 is present in this forum because it's build by htc
so i doubt sonyE will demand htc build a poor quality product

The phones are much more like Ericsson than Sony.
When I first got my K850i there were many firmware problems - due more to the network than Sony Ericsson. I sent for repair and had it replaced 3 times. But since the new firmware (on my third handset) it's worked perfectly. I could've flashed/debranded but would've lost the warranty. Software problems caused what seemed like hardware problems - like the camera taking dark photos, the shutter not opening etc.
I had a K800i and it worked perfectly for the 6 months I had it.
I had a W800i which also worked perfectly for the 6 months I had it. And the K750i for the 3 months before that.
Hardware has never been a problem. Software problems can be easily fixed on Windows Mobile.

W810i rules, still solid to this day, never had any problems with it, build or otherwise.

My friend has latest Cybershot and it is amazing.

Yeah every SE phone ive had with a joystick has messed up, in fact most SE phones ive seen have had something wrong with them, usually keypad,joystick related. Although one of the phones had had cranberry juice spilt over it :/ lol

i would have to say that se's that i've had in the past have been pretty good phones I had the notorious T616 and the lovely s710a. The T616 I really tore apart but after i got the s710a it was built very well it was a very nice phone i have to say. i never had a problem with any of the keypads or joysticks on either of the phones. I will definately be looking forward to possibly purchasing the X1 if (and it will) come to ATT.

my k750 and k800i were fine for a long long time
had the k750i about 16 months and it woked perfectly till it got stolen. And that was amazing considering it was the first real mainstream phone with 2 mega pixels
the k800i has lasted equally as long, but has been used a lot less in the past year. in december i will have had it 2 years.
only recently has it been crap, and doesnt do calls well (think the seaker is broken ut I hae 2 phones so dont see the need to repair it. the camera is excellent as is the flash. I carried it along with my athena for a long tme so I had a great camera and a superb pda in my pocket always.
just realised i had a p1i too. it was ok, not too great though, but had a good camera, excellent in fact, but the touchscreen wasnt the best
but he joysick thng is true, and both have rerely had joystick ****ups.
and my ex girlfriends w880i was replaced twice and ws still pretty crap
but saying that, most of my mates ave sony ericssons because other mates have sold hem to them, and that shows how long they last considering all my mates are 18 year old clumsy fools
but i think sony realised joysticks were crap and thats why the new generation of sony ericssons have no joystick

Personally, I never had an issue with, and loved, my SE M600i.
UIQ3 is my favourite smart-phone OS

Sony Ericsson is losing a lot of money and the X1 wasn't really a bestseller :/

saw this and made a thread a while back.
its the annoucement on the 28th of may, dont think any phones will be released on that date.
they are sure to show the x2 and idou (these are near definate) + some other phones / phone related stuff

oh god.. I spent tons of money on my X1 already.
I sure hope the X2 has big improvements..
eg. Casing, AMOLED sceen <- WOOO lol, nvidia tegra?, improved cpu speed, HD video recording, 5mp camera, RAM is quite good, but more wouldn't hurt . Last but not least, better speakers!

i read on esato forums that theres one more unannounced model. could be the new xperia...
dunno when but i definitely got my eye on Satio to replace my X1 come end of the yr.

The X1 is lacking on the software side, not hardware. How is coming out with a new X2 going to solve the X1 deficiencies? We don't even get proper updates to the X1.
I hope SE sits on the X2 for a while and get it right instead of rushing out another unfinished phone like they did with X1. IOW, hold the X2 until WM7 hits.

Fark WM! I say go S60, and see some success come back to Sony Ericsson.

Not only is WinMo better, but Xperia was the first phone that SE made that didn't have a crappy average joe loser interface.
Seriously their phones are like using phones from 2005 and earlier.
Xperia is their window to advancement.

WinMob is much better then Nokia's Symbian (SimByan?) and Android and Linux Mobile and BREW. It's so easy to make applications for WM...
But more important I know excatly what a desperate feature I need in X2!
It's just a little hole in the battery cover to make SoftResets without removing the cover!
I'm thinking to drill a hole in X1 for myself.

Not really, no one from SE announced yet...

So pity to x2 user. Damn... Can't really taste the true power of X2. I don't know what to do. I want to sell, but no one want to buy.

I understand HTC's HD2 phone, also a Windows mobile fon, is a lot better than the X2. You may check on it. Cheers.

my opinion on the x2 is that it is a WinMo device. if there is something you don't like about it, change it. already i've put TF3d, over clocked it.
the stock R3XXX update was a huge improvement and slideview+ panels are brilliant.
plus 8mp camera and full keyboard does not hurt either, and because of the smaller screen the battery last longer than the hd2 and it fits easier in my pocket,
but if your looking for a new phone i would go with the hd2 just because it has attracted more people therefore there is more support for it. but its just based on preferences

Sony Ericsson has just abandonned the Xperia X2 and X1 phones (or all Windows Mobile devices).
In fact, honestly SE never really cared about these devices. The first X1 was a HTC development, solid in Software terms at the end but horrible at Hardware level. The X2 was the exactly opposite, great Hardware, awful Software.
But there's no more interest in this devce anymore.

Well, it's not really true.
Both phones got cruical updates, X2 is completely redesigned after last upgrade.
Officially SE didn't abandon anything.
However it is true they've made diastrous mistakes with X2
and pushed unfinished buggy firmwares, without any sign of improvements ATM.

i am SE mobile user for the past 6 years and wanted to always stick with SE device... but my X2 experience has changed my perception.... i will no more use SE devices... at the moment looking to get rid of my X2 and switch to iphone...

Em... I like SE phone.but this X2 make me crazy. My only hope is SE declare the next update for X2 and without anymore bugs. Of course SE should really try it first before launch to x2 user.
Nb : I really want to find and install hand writing recognition. As long as I know, PDA or PocketPC should have this feature.

I am not a fussy phone user.
If my phone could just alert me when messages are received consistently, if my phone would always unlock when i want it to, if the screen would not dim so quickly with no way to alter it, i would be pleased.
All of which the X2 is unable to fulfill. Colour me disgusted, SE.

I simply just can't understand why some people are still defending SE and the X2, saying that's only "few minor bugs".
The only reason that I still with this phone is that I cannot sell it, and the iPhone 4 hasn't arrived to my country yet.

The mistake is bigger because this is substantially a great phone, which could be on the first line of last batch of WM devices.
I'm using it and must say love it in most part.
However it has glitches, somehow I'm able to squeeze most of it. In many ways it's great.
But the truth is they never felt on their back angry customers breath.
I think they're whether too proud and rude,
or too old fashioned in their approach.
And they reach a success with X10, so you know, no reason to panic

If you go to settings Settings>System>Backlight and Power Management>Advanced you can change the settings.
I did this and it worked for a while. But then, sometimes, after 5 seconds it goes dark.
But after I make the change it stops doing the 5 second thing. . . for a while.
Yes a bug, it sucks, but there are ways to DEAL with it.
As for the unlock, yes I see what you are talking about. I keep pressing and nothing, nothing then all of a sudden, it slides!!!
Annoying to say the least.
Sony should make the device work out of the box. Unfortunately this is not the case. We either deal with it and come up with our own solutions or sell the X2. Too bad no wants to buy the X2 but then again I don't blame them, it is a buggy machine.

However...X2 is still not meet most user requirement. Some tweak and fix are not enough. Hope SE really care to make update for us. I want to change X2 to X10, but so pity, no one will buy my X2. Because of the bugs. I choosed the wrong phone.

All of us picked up the wrong phone. You're not alone.
Sadly, SE will not release another update. This device is absolutely dead for this company, same as X1.
Even, Sony Ericsson will not have a Windows Phone 7 device at launch. They're fully with Android only now.

Erm. dude. I KNOW.
A solution isn't a solution when it doesn't work well. It is still a compromise. And dealing with it, is a massive compromise.
Its plain stupid that we users are compromising on our user experience on simple things. For a premium, top range phone no less.

I actually returned the phone to the seller on the basis that it does not offer functions as declared by the manufacturer, specifically "USB mass storage" mode. OK, it wasn't easy and I settled for somewhat less money that the phone costed me, but it was still more than the price of a used phone. But it all depends on local customs, laws and the will of seller.

Are you saying the X2 does not even have MassStorageUSB? Not even after MR2 update??? Wow!

Well actually not true.
Actually just after connecting this to PC and starting
WMDevice Center you can browse both sd card and internal memory.
In reverse X1 mass storage allows only sd card management.
To much *****ing is not sensible either.

Update necassary?

How do you think about X2 now? I already check and still no update. Do all X2 users think no need for another update or what?

I'm afraid that no MR3 will come, but I strongly hope for a couple of bugfix.
The phone is now stable and usable, but there is a large room for refinements.

X2 is better phone then when it first came out in january but its still noway near complete.
even if the phone was like this on january and then got a couple of updates it wouldnt justify its price unless if it would work flawlessly.
the general importer of SE for Slovenia still sells it for 550€ and galaxy I9000 costs around 600€ (I9000 got european smartphone award 2010-2011, X2 is a bad joke).
if you pay €500+ you need it for work (email and internet work fine but calls get weard sometimes and its anyoing and embarrassing) or for showoff (if you use the slideview or the panelmanager alot it will freeze soon or later and embarass you in front of people).
SE has to do what he should. if we have to pay for thair product they need to make X2 work as it should.

And I review to another thread, They are debating about android and apple. But in this case I never ever think of using MAC because of my own reason. But... Senior, Can some one tell what is so special about Apple 4?
Is it true about big different between Android 1.x and 2.1?
Will X10 dissapointing again like X2?
Is there another good smart phone to suggest?

For me, I will never consider to ever buy a Sony Ericsson product in my life.
So, stay away for the X10, X10 mini, or whatever.

May be the problem is not SE. But it is about Microsoft or may be about WM 6.5.3.
But believe me, SE is still good phone.

Hello friend, i'll suggest HTC Desire. If you go to the SE blog, you will see a lot of disgruntled x10 users as well. That is why SE has disappointed me so much. I therefore decided to try the HTC Desire, and i'm not regretting it at all. The device is very responsive! And the Android OS is lovely, and there are lots of free apps in their appstore. The only thing i've found disappointing about the Desire is its speaker phone. The volume is a bit too low. Apart from that, every other thing about the phone combined with the OS is just LOVELY. In my experience, there are always dissatisfied users with any phone. If you wander into any forum here at xda, you will find different opinions.
On to android. It's a very nice operating system. It was made for touchscreens. The X10 is a great phone. Sony ericsson did a good job with 1.6 and soon will be updating to 2.1. That much is guaranteed.
With 2.1, you will get native exchange support. It will support more colors for the screen; 16m colors. You will get access to more apps that are only compatible with 2.1 and up such as google earth, advanced voice search, and other third party apps. You can have multiple google accounts and native facebook sync.
I have both the X10i and the Nexus One. I will say, hardware wise, the X10 is the better of the two. It could have used an optical track pad, but it isn't as important since I have the swype keyboard with a software dpad. The nexus one has the most software features since it has 2.2 but is buggy. I guess what I'm trying to say is the X10 is a really nice phone to use if you don't mind being a little behind with the OS version.
If you are really interested in any phone, you should hop into the different forums and get a feel for each phone from what people are posting about it.

Thanks to all friends. I just buy X10. hohohoh. very responsive. I like that. The sound is too low but clear. Still upgrading. The style is very exclusive. I like that. but... don't know yet.
But one thing is upsetting, no video call.

Just like what I imagine. No update till now. May be SE confuse how to upgrade more with this phone. hohohoh.... May be they have given the best shot to this phone. And last word is : "SORRY".
But from deep in my heart, I really disappointed with X2, I feel being cheated.
After I change to X10, many things is different. in many aspects, X10 is different.
My opinion, X10 is my phone. just meet my expecting.
considering to the: design, responsiveness, camera, connection, features, display, etc.
Nb: Friends, try consider X10. You will not disapoint.

I wonder if we should take it as a good or bad news.... It appears that X10 series has been SE's jewel for the moment, and if its 2.1 update has been delayed so much, X2 would certainly be in the forever waitlist for any kind of movement! Besides, you know what, X2 has been pulled out of the market in Hong Kong! I happened to be one of the stupidest ones who bought it.......

I already using X10 changed from x2. Just my opinion: may be the update schedule is delayed, but actually x10 has no untoleranced bugs anyway. I mean minor bugs only.
Trust me, it is much better than x2. Just as I thought before.still no update for x2. I think we ust admit, SE already given up for x2.

You are too harsh. I have Satio and it works quite nicely. Sometimes it even does not reboot it self randomly for a whole day!
But as for X2... poor, sad X2. It is so nicely designed phone, with a faster CPU and proper support it could be a very nice machine.

i had such a lovely tiem with x1 (valkyrie roms)
then i try to have the same with chaming x2 with keyboard - but i have no more patience. i just get the ugly and huge htc hd2 and back to valkirye. there is dual boot to anroid 2.2 (works 90%) in case you want to change in a minute.
