[Q] Wouldn't it be great..... - Vibrant General

Wouldn't it be great if you could connect your phone to your tv and use it as a monitor while doing everything on your phone. Is this possible?

Yes, get a cable that goes from 3.5mm to AV.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

The resolution is not the best trust me, but it is ok it could be worst but again maybe is just the cable I bought.

It's possible but oh my God, dude, just use a computer.

Thanks. I thought it only worked to show video. Fyi....I use my computer. My computer is connected to my flat screen. I was going more on the lines of have the phone in a pip to the side and have on screen caller id.

That's a niche market if I've ever heard of one. My Uverse does this for my IP-"landline" - but that doesn't get used.

Just trying to make life easier. Micro usb ffc like the psp? Micro usb flash (camera) on/off switch or let the phone turnit on when needed. Only have a cell, no landline.

Tv out issues

Anyone get this working yet? I can't seem to get it going. I bought a standard a/v 3.5mm cord from radio shack. Tried it on multiple tvs but no sound or video comes through. Did I get a bad cord or are there others out there having this same problem?

You turned on "TV Out" in the Sound and Display Settings, right?
Yes of course. I even tried both pal and ntsc for every tv I tried it on

I had issues at first because I hadnt selected the TV out (oops!) and apparently, you can't play Avatar through it.
... but oh well

My video out was red and my audio out was white and yellow oh well at least it works.
Now I have to get a PS3 to test the video out on the all share wifi system
Seems like the best way to do video out is to use DLNA (run "AllShare") and then playback on a compatible device like a HTPC (windows media player if you have windows 7) or an xbox/ps3 etc. However, it seems that avatar isn't an option for playback through this method either - DRM issues I guess?

I can double check when I get home, but it was just a generic cable that I got for my husbands car which requires the RCA output to be fully plugged in. (cant just do audio, even if it is only audio that I'm trying to play, strange!)
Why do this

Yes I can send from phone to Win7 over WiFi, while bigger screen not TV out which is what would be way cool...
Fyi ifinally got a chance to look and my cables are Maxwell

hope this helps. i have a few of these av cables (from different cameras and ipods) i noticed that the generic av cables that work with the ipods also work with the vibrant. the ones that work with my video cameras but not the ipods also do not work with the vibrant. (they all similarly have the 3 black stripes on the jack)

Same here.

At first, i thought it didn't work, until i realized the 3.5mm jack on the Vibrant is a little tight, and I didn't push it all the way in. Works like a charm.

I will confirm if the HDMI problem is usual, cause I know people have been having problems with that, I will be getting my HDMI cable in the mail soon, will let you know. I have sometimes experienced slow downs on mine as well. Have you tried formatting the Xoom?

The USB port is very weak on my Xoom (and others, I've read). You need to plug the USB cable into a MOTHERBOARD MOUNTED USB port to make it work reliably. Using a front panel USB port, or any other port that is cabled off of the motherboard, can cause problems.
I personnaly mount my xoom into the front panel USB port and have had no problems with it so far.
i too use the USB ports on the front of my tower and it works fine...
My USB cable that came with it was the problem, used a different one and it was transfering fine

Best way to repurpose G1

I switched to a Droid X for almost 6 months now, and my G1 just sits on my shelf. What's the best way to repurpose my old G1? I have considered donating it to a good dev so they can make good use of it, but what are other options?
Some of them just use it as the backup phone. Other pass it down to their familiy members (ie: kids, etc...) I got mine from my brother as a pass me down.
Some of the others users here using it to test the new ROM for G1. (bascially becoming the tester for the ROM).
Emulator machine. that's what I use my cliq for the d pad its great for nintendo rpgs

I use one of mine as a WiFi streaming audio player for the home sound system.
The other is my backup, sitting ready to take over should my Vibrant kick the bucket.

phone backup is out of the question , moving from t-mobile to verizon :/
i have used my g1 for controlling my pc from my bed, which was convenient, but eventually just stopped
thanks for the suggestions, if anyone else got something, i'd be glad to hear it
I use mine as a dedicated handset for voip and to stop the kids stealing my galaxy to play stupid disney puzzles

you could donate to someone ... for example me hahah.
I just use mine as an alarm, lol.
you can surf the web via wifi soo uhhh yeah like blacra said stream music or uhhh fill it with apps to play and try... paperwieght..??? lol i could always use a spare G1 for testing lol
Turn it into a car music player. You'd need
-USB host drivers for the G1 (works on Android 2.2)
-mini-USB splitter/headphone adapter (it'd need a USB and headphone jack)
-AUX jack on the car radio
-3.5mm cable (goes from headphone adapter to AUX)
-mini-USB to USB cable
-powered USB hub and car adapter
-portable hard drive
Kind of a lot but you could get one heck of a music collection on a portable hard drive.

I second this
Its the best use for this thing if you dont use it, mines has been sitting on the shelf with my other old phones and hasnt been touched in months.
Hm, I not sure if both the audio adapter and the USB host drivers can work at the same time. Lots of people have done HDD mounting but nobody has tried using output at the same time.
Crap, what a time not to have my USB adapter. Maybe I can pick one up at the flea market.
Well if it does work, why stop there? Plug it into a home audio system. Find an app that allows you to control the music on the G1 from your other phone. Tada! Remote controlled 1TB stereo system. If the G1 wasn't such a weak phone you could turn it into an HTPC.
I used one of my old G1 to use as a walkie talkie. I can use the push to talk app to talk to my kids while there home on Wi-Fi.

Because tv has hdmi input and laptop has hdmi output. You are trying to output hdmi from your phone which should go into the input. Since your laptop is not an input you cannot and will not see anything.

Is there any adapters that are made to lets say Hdmi to usb? I've seen one for hdmi to svideo. But most laptops don't have that either.

Are you just trying to use the laptop screen as a TV for the phone?
Yeah. Pointless I know I mean its a laptop. But my computer has hdmi inputs. Well the monitor does.

If your monitor has hdmi input then just plug in the hdmi cable into it.

After rooting would it show those options in my phone and the laptop ?

@zeealot, you cant connect your phone to any laptop via hdmi... the hdmi port on your phone is for output so as the hdmi port on most laptops so therefore you cant connect output-to-output
if you want to display/output your phone on a bigger screen, you can only connect to a tv or an external monitor that has hdmi input port... also, rooting your phone doesnt have anything to do with it... I hope I explained that clearly to you

now, that sucks ...
You could try using a HDMI capture device like this one:
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
but it is probably expensive.
$200 its professional grade used for way more then what your wanting it for. You can actually hook up your xbox or ps3 to your laptop with this and record the game play as your playing it.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Why don't you just buy the laptop and be done with it? You obviously have no clue about how HDMI works, and I wouldn't trust you trying to perform mods to your phone because I know you'll end up here whinging you bricked your phone.
Sigh.

you CAN NOT connect it to a laptop BUT if you're referring to an external display with hdmi input (monitor/tv) you can still use webtop without a dock... just search the forum for hdmi mirroring
Is there any way to make the HDMI output of the laptop to HDMI input ?like by using a converter ?
No. It's not possible. Period.
Use your TV, or get the lap dock, there is physically no way to make your laptop show the webtop off of your phone without an extra tuner card (hdmi are expensive, and not worth it).
Btw, google is your friend.

I think yhe2x had made it very clear already! Buy a new LapTop with HDMI "IN" port.
Even though I think dingdong a laptop with any form of input would be nearly impossible. Laptops just aren't something people expect, or use, as a secondary display.
Plain and simple... There is no way to connect your phone to the laptop and use webtop mode. TV, yes. HDMI computer monitor, yes. Laptop, no.

Question for those that use Odin

Hey all. What kind of USB cable do you? I cant get my recignized by Odin. Ive tried every port on my computer, restarted phone computer, took battery out of phone and it still wont connect. I think its the cable. So can anyone guide me to one that will work? Thanks
Just buy a Blackberry cable they are very thick and nice but any other type of Micro usb cable works better than the stock one ...
Just curious, have you installed the phone drivers on your PC?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yes I have. 3 out of the 4 installed fine.
I use a blackberry cable. Never had an issue
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You might even be able to get a Sprint store to exchange your crappy Samsung cable for the Blackberry one if they have one. It might take a little convincing, but most stores will have a small stockpile of cables from return phones, and if you explain to them that you have read online that the blackberry one works better for data transfer, they will probably exchange it.
I've also used the Palm Pre cable, and it worked fine as well.
Maybe I'm lucky, but I've had no problems with the cable that came with my epic.
HTC cables work well... like the one that comes with the EVO
I use the cord from my old Samsung Moment, It actually came with a separate USB Data cord. I think just about any cord will be better than the ones that shipped with the Epic.
I've always used my epic USB. Is ur phone disconnected from the PC before u enter download mode... if so try resetting ur PC, opening Odin, putting your phone in dl mode, than connecting the USB to your phone

Using an ecomoto cable off of a cliq 2... Never gave me a problem.
