When I go into the settings to enable wifi I get the following messages back to back, either one can show up first:
"unable to save the network"
"unable to scan networks"
When this started the phone was not rooted.
I rooted the phone in an attempt to fix this.
I deleted /etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf after backing it up.
This fix was suggested in the EVO forum, however it did not work for me, also the wpa_supplicant.conf was not recreated, and I was under the impression that it would be.
Has anyone had this issue and fixed it without doing a factory reset?

Now that you are rooted, i would say do a nandroid backup, then do a factory reset to see if that fixes your issue, if not, then you have a backup to restore to incase it does not work, if it does, then your good to go, if not restore and you are no worse off.

How do you do a NANDROID backup? Using Koush's recovery image? I saw initial unstability issues so didn't bother with it. I'm still hoping to see Amon Ra's recovery.
oh jeez i'm glad this thread is here. I have the exact same problem now. I don't remember anything significant enough to screw up the wifi, but I did use XBMC and Allshare as a trial run and it worked fine and I was amazed.
The next day the wifi is gone and 'unable to scan networks' gets on.
Can somebody help with this issue?
I will nandroid back soon and see how it goes down.

that is a link to the how to, just follow the first post, once you have clockwork recovery installed do a nandroid back up through ROM Manager,(if that is the koush recovery you said you had your set, just install the app) try a factory reset after backup and see if that fixes your problem, if it does then your set, if it does not fix it, then you can always do a restore and it will put your phone right back to how you had it when you did the back up.
Just ensure that you dont partition your sdcard with the rom manager, it will wipe your whole phone internal sdcard, not the external one, you should have no reason to do this anyways, just wanted to let you know not to try for fun. as it is not one of the steps to backup or restore anyways.
I had the same problem and found that the problem seems to stem from Allshare. I used it briefly and disconnected from WiFi, later that night, I enabled WiFi and had this problem. Today I opened Allshare and it prompted me to turn on WiFi, I was redirected to the WiFi menu and attempted to turn it on again. Of course it failed the first time, but I repeated this process of opening Allshare and pressing "Back" when it tried to redirect me to the WiFi menu. Doing this two or three times somehow managed to get my WiFi finally to recognize and now it all works. I would say, that if anyone is to run into this issue, I think it's Allshare related. This is what I did to fix it, hope it helps.
thank you for that. i'll go try it out
None of that works. Does any developers or anyone with some experience have any advice or fixes? Much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it had something to do with Allshare or XBMC. I think it has something to do with the phone having to scan a network for other devices to obtain indexes. When I was messing with allshare, I disabled the wifi in the middle of the phone attempting to scan my network for my media servers. That's the only thing I did, so it's the only thing that could have caused my issue. When I opened allshare again it asked me to enable wifi, I received the error a couple of more times then after a few times it fixed itself, which led me to believe that it was allshare that caused the issue to begin with. I'm hoping that samsung is aware of this bug.
Same issue, first time I restored a Nandroid backup to get things rolling again. This time I was testing a new DLNA server at home with AllShare, since then Wifi wont stay on. I have sent a message to Samsung support about it. Rebooting doesn't seem to help, not sure how to do a workaround.
Best thing is to go into AllShare, make sure Wifi is on, wait a few seconds and then go to home screen. Usually after a few tries the Wifi setting will stick.
Like I said, all I did was to try and go in and out of Allshare back and forth between the Wifi application and enabling/disabling Wifi. After a few tries, it magically enabled successfully and worked. I wish I had a better fix or better advice, but all I can say is that I just had Wifi disabled, attempted to launch Allshare, Allshare told me to enable Wifi, so it automatically took me to the Wifi settings menu, I enabled it, received the error, went back to allshare, it sent me to settings again, I enabled wifi again and immediately pressed back to get back into Allshare, at which point I just bounced back and forth between the two, hitting back immediately to get back into Allshare, and somehow Wifi worked. This leads me to believe that Allshare didn't finish "something" with wifi, so interrupting Allshare in the middle of a network scan is bad.
already returned one unit to tmobile because of this issue a couple weeks ago had no idea it was related to allshare. makes sense i was using it to try to stream to my xbox the day before
Looks like a pattern to me!
Also, if you are using Juice Defender, you may have a setting that is turning off WiFi.
Fixed for me
So I had the same problem. Not with allshare, never use it. Just randomly stopped working. Anyway, follow the link below, it fixed the problem. It does require root and editing the conf file rather than deleting it. I had a missing } from the end of one of my entries for some reason. I removed all of the saved ssid's and put in the missing } to the end of the t-mobile entry and no more problem!
I can't post links so change the below hxxp to http

I'm rooted, deleting that file worked fine for me and it was recreated (the one early in the thread)

It's worked . Thank you so much.
none of the "fixes" posted work. im bone stock, running eclair. same wifi errors as the op. The phone is to be used as a wifi only device, since the sim is not active. is there a real fix for this?
This is helpful information. thanks.

This just started this morning
If I turn on Wifi I will get a dialog box for a few seconds that says "Unable to scan network" followed by "Unable to save network"
The phone is rooted, has clockwork mod, and I have changed to the Captivate Camera. Those are the only mods on the original firmware and kernel. I have rebooted the phone and it still happens. This is quite the problem for me, any suggestions?
On the plus side, I did a nandroid restore and now its working fine.

I dont use allshare but I do recall accidentally hitting it yesterday before it happened. Worth testing to see if that does it.
I've been given a Galaxy Tab by my office to play with for a while for some various development projects we have coming up and to evaluate its use. Initially another employee had it, but he quickly lost interest.
Problem is, his Gmail account has been tied in as the primary account for the system, so I can't use my own Market apps, etc. No biggy, I'll just wipe it, right? First I tried a data wipe from recovery, but despite claiming to be successful after a reboot it's still got his account in there. So then I did Privacy/Factory data reset, but that mostly just reboots into Recovery where I do the same thing again and still fail to wipe his data off the device. I then pulled the memory card and formatted it and also reset with it out, but no improvement. I finally downloaded the stock image and flashed it with ODIN and STILL his account remains.
So... any thoughts on what I could be missing here? I just want this thing back to pure stock so I can put my own account in and work with it as though it were new.
I am having the EXACT same issue on a Verizon Tab...
No one has been able to help me.

Glad I'm not alone, but sorry to see you've not gotten anywhere either. This seem absurd...
Agreed. I thought I was the only one.. It just doesn't make sense.. I flashed mine using heimdall and still the same issue. The only problem is that mine force closes when you do anything.. So if I can't restore the software on this it's absolutely no good to me.
Yeah, same here. Nearly none of the apps functions now after the reset. This is absurd.
I'm in the same boat. It's very frustrating. Sprint was not able to help me. All he could do was walk me through the factor reset. I downloaded a Market app that bugged out something and now I'm getting quite a few force closes.
I just notice that if I merely restart this thing is loses all changes I made since I last restarted it, adding back any apps I uninstalled, removing accounts and WiFi settings I installed, etc. This is screwy. Wondering if there's a hardware problem with the flash memory.

Listen to this, even more crazy than that... After my last unsuccessful wipe, I decided to just uninstall all of the applications. I just did another factory restore for the heck of it. Now ALL of the applications I uninstalled are back!.. AFTER the factory restore!
I think the only sure way to fix the problem is to get a zip file of the stock firmware and load it through the recovery screen.
Edit: since it put the applications back on there, I decided to try your situation. I uninstalled all of them, turned off the Tab and then back on. All applications are back.

It seems incapable of now making permanent changes to the flash memory. This is really screwy and annoying.
I am having the exact same issues. We are all in the same boat.. I have a $30 reward if anyone can fix this..
Any updates from the others with this problem?
I received 2 more Tabs today for my sales reps. They both work fine as far as factory restore. I noticed that the bad one goes to the boot loader when I initiate the restore through the Android software. The new ones do not. They format and reboot back into the operating system. Sprint is going to exchange the bad one.

Thanks for the comparisons. Mine also goes to Recovery mode when I initiate a data wipe, so clearly it's the same situation. I'll have to see how mine was acquired and whether an exchange is an option.
My wifi Xoom, using EOS 155, hasnt been able to connect to google's servers in several days. everything else works fine.... browsing, the amazon app store app, irc, etc. But the wifi icon won't turn blue, and when I try to goto the Andriod market it says it can't connect. gmail seems fine... just sent an email to another account and got the reply....
If i go into settings and look under accounts, everything that I have setup to sync says its doing it.... I just can't access the market and the wifi icon is grey.
This happens no matter where I'm at... my house, my friends and family, work, etc. So I know it can't be the network I'm connect to. I haven't made any changes to any settings in a while.... so unless something changed without me doing it....
I've power cycled it numerous times... both rebooting and turning it off completely and then back on again.
Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem???
Thanks

Strange problem... been using EOS for months now and have not had a similar connection issue. Only problem I had connecting to Google site and Application store occurred when I move to Google 2-way authentication and had to setup the security properly.
Did you have this same problem using an earlier version of EOS? When upgrading to EOS 155 did you do a wipe or clean your dalvik and cache? I would try a full system wipe and reflash the ROM. Sometimes it is easier to redo it from scratch then track down a particular issue.
I've never had any issues with any version of EOS, and I've been using them since night 1. And I had 155 installed since it was released... and this issue just happened a week or two ago. So nothing should have changed on my xoom.... unless it was done by some application or something. (And I'm the only user of the device)
I've tried stopping and clearing the cache on the google play app.... which I found the suggestion on another site... but that didn't do anything.
I had this happen before, but it normally just required a rebooting of the tablet, and it would then connect again.
I wish there was something like on windows with the event viewer.... cause I have no idea what the problem is. The error message when I try to connect to the storeis RH-01.
I'm going to install EOS4... but I wanted to wait a day or three until they have a chance to find/correct any early bugs.
I've also been getting error messages about google+... which I never had before. I'll just be doing anything.... browsing, using tweetcaster, playing music, etc and a error msg about google+ pops up.
Could not figure out what the issue was.... I just installed EOS nightly 160.. and everything is back to normal. I don't know if it was a Xoom issue or EOS issue... esp. considering everything was working fine on the nightly I was on for weeks... then all the sudden it stopped.
Reinstalling all my apps...
Simple solution: reflash gapps package.
Lol it's really that simple, I had the same issues as well, but on CM roms.

I've had a similar issue.. but resolved it with simply removing/deleting the remembered networks and re connecting them. This could be an artifact of my network setup with both the router and a wireless extender being visible from my location.. and once in a while it seems to confuse the connected systems.
Of course if I learned to leave my working systems alone.. they might not 'break' so often. but it is just too much fun to play:silly:

Oh well... I should have just tried reflashing everything... but I figured I would move on to 4.2 soon anyway... which I like (4.2) but it's a bit laggy on my xoom compared to 155.
You have to make sure you flash the correct gapps version with the ROMs. 4.2 nightlies require the packages named as follows: gapps-jb-201301##-EOS-XOOM-ONLY.zip be flashed together at the same time. EOS ROM 155 gets flashed with gapps-jb-20120802-eos-signed.zip.

After a recent snafu in trying to remove root from my Nexus 7 tablet and installing the 4.3 update I think there are issues with with it's ability to keep a constant wireless connection, Juice Defender be damned as way before root and even during root I was able to maintain a flawless connection although I think the issue may have arisen during my installation of a cracked google play store app.
This was a couple months ago though.
However I decided rooting wasn't worth it and wanted to update to the new 4.3, this is where the snafu occurs, unrooting wasn't a problem at all, nor was flashing stock recovery, but the process of installing 4.3 was since even performing the update in my settings wasn't working, it would download and my tablet would restart and try to apply the update but soon after it would error out and I had to perform a hard shut down.
After that it would boot like normal and there were no issues, other than the update failing to apply.
So I decided to try and apply the update manually and as it turns out, I was attempting to install the update for the mobile version of the tablet instead of the wi-fi only one that I have so it didn't install correctly and simply erased all data on my tablet except luckily for the devices fastboot mode.
Seeing that I installed the correct 4.3 factory image and this is where the wi-fi issues come into play (I wanted to explain in as much detail as I could that might shed light on my current wi-fi situation).
The tablet booted up seemingly normally, taking a bit longer than it should have to me and upon getting to the glowing X before the main screen it suddenly reset it's self and then booted up correctly; so I finished the set up process after linking my wi-fi up but while going through each app that uses wi-fi I started off with games like Happy Street and The Sims Freeplay which worked normally.
Then I got go my Bank of America app and it's the one app (besides the Play Store on occasion), that didn't work at all, instead it just timed out, there's a screenshot so you can verify for yourselves.
You can clearly see I do have an established connection but this is the only app that fails to work after the update, again besides the Play Store but I've removed root and the crack is no longer installed, not that it would work anyway without root access but it doesn't concern me as much since it'll connect after force closing the app and starting it again.
So that's my issue in detail, is there something that I messed up that's preventing the device from maintaining a connection? Or do I simply need to re-install the factory image to restore connections?
Hmm...I've been having some trouble with WiFi as well.
I was running CM10 and then installed the 4.3 factory image over that. That's where the problem started. Since then I've tried the 4.2 factory image, Ubuntu Touch, and I'm now back on CM10, but the issue remains that my WiFi seems to stop working even though the icon in the notification bar says that it's connected.

Well the weird thing is, is that every other app seems to work but that one where it just times out, I'm going to try just re-installing the update and see if that helps things.
Edit: After backing everything up I decided to re-install the 4.3 update and after downloading the Bank of America app it started up instantly, froze for a moment and allowed me to sign in.
I closed out of the app and tried again to check and after 3 attempts to sign in it worked each time, I think the re-installation did the trick.
Can anyone upload the Bluetooth Share apk for the stock 6.0.1 image? My Bluetooth was malfunctioning, I tried doing a couple things, freezing and unfreezing in TiBu, etc., and now it's basically become corrupted. Anyone have something they can share or a place they can point me to snag a version? TIA.
EDIT: Should rename this thread to "Bluetooth is broken." At startup I get the error the Bluetooth share has stopped working. Any attempt to toggle on the BT results in the same error. Things I've tried to resolve the issue:
Clearing cache and Dalvik
Uninstalling the BT system app itself and reinstalling
Restoring from TiBU (which probably ****ed it up in the first place)
Various apps from Play Store that purport to fix these issue (none work because they require BT to be on--I can't actually turn BT on)
Booting into safe mode to see if it was a conflict with a 3rd party app
Nothing works. Same issue over and over, Bluetooth share stopped working.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? I don't want to have to re-flash just for BT, but I really rely on it for car audio as well as my watch.
I also tried restoring the system partition from a recent backup in FlashFire. Still same issue.
This ****ing thing. After repeatedly going through all the different steps outlined in the posts above, I one last time went in, force stopped the app, hit the "more" button, then chose to uninstall updates and return to factory version (which, yes, I had done previously). This time Bluetooth randomly turned on and showed my connected devices. Go figure.
I know now this thread seems pointless, but hopefully someone else runs across this and tries some of the steps that randomly ended up working for me. Thanks for reading. LOL.
