You could open it in a hex editor or text editor if you would like. It is a direct write image, there aren't actually files in it for you to retrieve.
Interesting id like to see what has changing in the new recovery from the old one.
Once I get home ill take the recovery.img from the stock esprimg.zip file and compare it with the one from the ota update and see what information I cam pull from that if any.

[Q] Boot animation folder location

Hi !
I tried to change the boot animation of my Xperia Arc but I accidentaly deleted it (I did it through Bootanimation Utility, from an XDA member), and now I cannot set a new one because the app doesn't find the bootanimation location...
So I must set a new one manually and I need the location of the folder.
Thanks
System/media
Put a bootanimation.zip file there. Make sure permissions are set as rw-r-r-

Thanks for answering, but how do I proceed, if I downloaded a zip archive ?

Just use root explorer, pick any bootanimation.zip file you like, don't unzip but put the complete zipfile in this folder. Longpress on the zipfile than and choose Permissions and set that as I mentioned before. Reboot your phone and enjoy.

Rooting Prob. Cant copy Gfree files to/data/local

Hi,
Ive been trying to root my MT4G trhu this: (Gfree method)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995549
And on the step 6, where I have to copy the files unziped to /data/local:
1st-. I have the "/data/" But LOCAL doesnt exis,t. And i cant create a new folder.
2nd-. It does not let me copy anything INSIDE THE PHONE. all it says is "that Cant be copied."
Any suggestion!?
It wont show the files for you because your probably using astro file manager. You have to use Root Explorer. This program shows the data/local file. I'll PM you.

You don't have the root access enabled in File Expert. Go into its settings to enable.

[Q] Tool to recreate app install?

When I download and install an app (from the play store for example), I assume it comes down as an APK file which (I assume again) gets deleted.
Is there a way to recreate a .APK file from the installed app so I can save them all somewhere? Some tool maybe?
thanks
Alan
Just look in /data/app you'll find all your user installed apps as apks.

Thanks - do I need to be rooted to access /data /app? when I look in /data with ES File Explorer, it tells me the directory is empty.

Yes /data and subdirectories are only readable by root/system user.

Can't copy to System/app :(

I've been trying to copy the clear weather apk to system/app using root explorer. I set the folder as RW. It allows me to rename something to .Bak but refuses to let me copy an apk into this folder. I can't figure this out. Never seen this happen before.
Any suggestions?
