Instantly like in using exchange? Then a Rom there has MS exchange would most probably help
so it cant be done without changing roms basically

I too have this and it works great. Here is how to do it.
ttp://blogs.howtogeek.com/mysticgeek/2009/03/13/how-to-send-and-receive-hotmail-from-your-gmail-account/
You can try Seven; it's still in beta.
It offers almost real time email syncing(read/unread, folders) for any number of email addresses including yahoo, hotmail.
The only problem is that the application will keep you phone 100% awake
I hope they'll fix that soon...
I'm having troubles with pop email accounts, I'm not being notified for new emails, they do not show up in my inbox until i manually open the email client - I have my client to auto check every 5 minutes, yet if I don't check for half a day and then login I have emails from all times of the day being loaded into my inbox.
my friend is having the issue, was wondering if anyone else was?
It's with hotmail, yahoo and ever business emails servers.
suggestions?
Thanks in advanced
nobody noticed that there email isn't polling when it should be?
If you are using an app-killer, make sure your email app isnt killed with it, since that would eliminate the option to auto-fetch emails.

Pls check these items.
Have you add to auto kill list? then remove it. along with email app.
com.andorid.provider.download
google.android.apps.uploader
data sync should be on.
try it.
Im sure yore battery life wont last 2 days. and why did you setup pop3? Go for Imap it saves resources and disk space.
Let your computer do POP3 work.
no appkiller of any kind installed
I just noticed now I havn't received emails to my phone in the last 3 days, I had to manualy open the app to fetch it, update is set to 30 min
I use moxier and it updates and polls fine,
email app doesn't.
x10a rooted on o24 software
every other functions works great

On the first day I got the phone, before doing anything (root) to it, I also noticed that it didn't poll. Had it set for 5 minutes, background data on and it did nothing. Never polled once all day.
So rather than waste my time with something (else) from SE that didn't work I just installed K-9 Mail and never looked backed since
i have all my accounts forwarded to my gmail which i believe is push on android phones (someone correct me if im wrong), although this probably doesnt save battery life, i prefer having my email pushed

agree...just let gmail take care of it
I prefer to reply or send emails from my actual email account, I did use k9 for a while and it was working and i do like all the additional advanced features it offers. All I need is basic send/receive from a basic client and the android email app is suppose to work like that.
thanks so far guys

The regular email client is a bit lacking. Your issue isn't common though. Must be just missing something in the setting somewhere...if not you could always do the total reset on the phone i guess if you really had too.
I recently just caved in and made the full switch to Gmail for all of my accounts. Much easier to manage. It IS full push email I believe, plus imap makes things so much easier it's not even comparible.
It's too bad the gmail app on the phone won't let you send from multiple addys, but the web interface is good for sending from a diff addy in a pinch.

Just checked it today, App killer was set for auto kill after a hour. Disabled, now push email works.....
Hi I am finding that my hotmail emails are not coming through when they should it is set up to check every 15 minutes but can take several hours to get emails. They are in my hotmail account and doing a manual refresh doesn't help. This is with wifi or good 3g. Gmail works instantly and everything else works fine internet/widgets etc.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

I just downloaded K-9, which seems to be a better client than the stock. Look in here: http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Internet-Utilities/Email/K9-Android-71552.shtml
Hi sorry just saw your reply, thanks for the suggestion I've tried it out and it's definitely better than the standard version but still doesn't work all the time. I don't suppose there is a way to forward my hotmail to another account as I suspect the problem is with hotmail

k9 mail is not compatible with free hotmail accounts. plus k9 mail always brings old emails as new emails.
try SEVEN beta, it is not available via market place. you need to google it.
This is a bit disappointing, im also having issues with my hotmail account which was working fine on my hero previously...
Have a weird problem. Got the Epic on release day, set up my two emails that I want to be able to check from the phone, a POP3 account and a Gmail (that is not associated to the phone to sync).
Both are set to auto check for new mail every 5 mins. Everything worked great for about a day, but then stopped.
Neither email account is auto checking for mail regardless of the frequency I set it to. 5 mins, 10 mins, hourly, etc.
If I go into the inbox however for one of the email accounts it seems to instantly check for new mail and then all the messages show up.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Ok, after doing some Googling and coming across a comment on some random site I did a little test.
I have two email accounts configured, and both were set to check every 5 minutes. It seems that the stock email app has some kind of issue initiating more than one email check at a time, so if you have multiple accounts and have them set to the same check frequency, it breaks. I left one account at 5 minutes, set the other to 10 minutes, and they both were able to receive test messages I sent.
How retarded.
Hopefully there will be a fix for this at some point.
Mine is doing this too! however i do have them on different times. i haven't got a notification i got email i have to click email then it loads the messages?
Any way to fix this?
Exactly what mine was doing but putting the frequency check times at different times 5 min & 10 min seemed to have fixed it.
I just sent two more test emails to make sure it wasn't a fluke and will report back if it did indeed fix mine or just happened to work once after I had rebooted the phone.
Hmm,..previous test was a fluke maybe affected by having gotten an SMS around the same time...
Mine is still broken.
I have found that the email app must stay running in the background in order to sync additional mailboxes other than the default gmail account. Make sure any task killers are configured to ignore the email app. Using the Home key to exit mail works for me. YMMV!

I don't have any task killers installed, but I do exit the mail program with the back button.
I'll try starting it up, and then just exiting using the home button to see if that changes the behavior.
I'll report back the results.

i let it run and didn't end it and it still didn't work i just have my email. i just forwarded my aol to gmail and now i dont have have to worry about it.
im having the same issue... This could be a deal breaker for me
Also the damn battery takes 4 hours to fully charge
Ok, leaving the email app running in the background by using the home key to exit it vs the back key made no difference. Still doesn't refresh the inbox until you open the email app up and go into it.
This sucks.
Anyone?

My Battery life sucks also, am trying a few things now to see if anything makes a difference. I removed Fring, did the on/off airplane mode thing, and am running the Juice Plotter to see if anything changes. only 4 to 5 hours of average use that my Hero could handle kills this battery!

How is this relevant to the topic?
i have 2 yahoos and a gmail and they are all updating fine. who is the provider of this email service?
One is a Gmail account the other a POP3 that had no issues over the last 5-6 years on WinMo using Sprint, nor on Android on my old Touch Pro, so that isn't the issue.
After roaming around the net a bit, it seems this a fairly widespread issue with no known fixes yet.
I also have this issue, and its quite frustrating. I have email accts for hotmail, gmail, yahoo, and aol. The only one that gets mail properly is the hotmail account, since it's set up using ActiveSync. The others often don't show as getting new email for about a day or so unless I manually go into each account. Only then will it realize there are new messages.
I too am having the same problem. My default e-mail is a comcast account set up to check every 5 mins. My 2nd acct is a gmail acct set to check every 30 mins. Coming to this phone from a blackberry and my curve would get the e-mails faster than my PC's outlook would.
I rooted my wife's EVO the day she got it bc she hated all the pre-loaded sprint bs. I'm in the same boat with my epic, but i'm hesistant to root it and load an Android 2.2 rom because i want to wait for bugs like this to be fixed.
I'm also getting a pop-up error msg on my epic about 4-5 times per day that says something along the lines of "unable to connect to network", even though i have service on the top "taskbar". The pop-up gives me the option to retry or cancel. Either selection doesn't seem to do anything. I have wi-fi, 4g, gps, and bluetooth turned off for battery life. I don't know if this could correlate to the e-mail syncing problem so I figured i'd toss it out there.
You know, the frustrating thing is I sit here and wait for months for this phone to come out and then they have all these problems with it. My wife's HTC EVO hasn't had a single problem since day 1 and she got it on release day too. The only thing good i can say about this epic compared to the evo (with exception of the slide out keyboard) is the battery life is marginally better on standby.
Subscribing to see what the fix is...
A lot of sites are rumoring there being some type of OTA update near the end of September. Some say it will just e fixes and patches for 2.1 for things exactly like this, others are crossing their fingers that it may be Froyo.
Either way, as long as it fixes this issue I'll be happy...so we'll just have to cross our fingers, wait and see.
lately my e-mail checking has been getting worse, sometimes not even syncing certain items. i went into settings and compared the send receive port #'s to the ones set up in my outlook, and the settings were all wrong as well as the port #'s. I changed them all to match my outlook and now everything is working fine for the moment. time will tell if this was the problem.
I'd be surprised if that fixes it for you.
I know that isn't the issue with mine. All of my manually configured server settings are correct and it still does it.
Crossing my fingers this will be patched/updated at some point, but until then I have MailDroid installed which is getting new mail notifications perfectly. I don't really like MailDroid as much as the integrated client, so whenever MailDroid lets me know I have an email, I just go into the stock email client and manually refresh to read/reply/etc.
Hi Guys,
Wondering if there's anyone who can help me with an issue I'm having.
I've set my corporate email up (NOT Gmail) and set it to sync every hour, however this setting doesn't seem to get applied and I'm receiving notifications as soon as emails arrive in my inbox i.e. push notifications.
Anyone else having this issue? Or know how to stop this from happening?
Cheers,
B

Having the same issue and I've posted this very same question a good while back too.
The only "valid" response that I got was install a mail app on your phone...
I haven't done that and I'm just living with the push as it is :/
Due to Franco's Kernel my battery lasts more than a day so I'm happy enough (meaning I don't mind the extra battery drain from this)
But I'd still like it if it were once per (half) hour

Really, that's the only solution!?!?! Surely this BUG in the android mail app has a fix somewhere??? I think the app is perfect in every way except for this one thing!

That's the only solution I've been given yes.. And I refuse to get an app for things that should work buildin anyway.
My topic just got no further answers..
Another one, "best" response was to get an app
Several more topics but non consist of any information about this ANNOYING BUG! :/

Thanks mate! I guess most people either want push notifications, or they're using another app for non-gmail email...
No problem.
Still doesn't fix the issue at hand though!
So if anyone has any advice how to fix this, feel free!!
I have noticed this too with my work e-mail account which connects to a corporate Exchange server using ActiveSync. I noticed that when setting the e-mail to anything other than push nothing changed apart from the battery usage for the exchange service on the phone, which surprisingly seemed to go up.
Is everyone who is having this issue using Exchange e-mail accounts?

I'm only syncing my hotmail email account and that gives problems for me. Not sure about the google one as I don't really use it.
Anyone got any solution besides an app?!

How have you configured Hotmail? Has it been set up as an Active sync (corporate) account (will have options for calendar and contacts syncing) or a POP3 account?
Using POP3 will probably let you choose a checking frequency, but you lose the option to delete messages from the server etc.

So all these topics including in the ask anything topic and no one even bothered to mention this? :/
It's written nowhere that this is the solution. And damn it's very easy too
So basically if you use google for calendar / contacts its the following:
* Ability to delete mails from server -> connect as Corporate
* sync frequency -> connect as Mail
-------
This is my first android phone so the difference was unknown to me sadly.
Thanks!
