How come there arn't complete Manila 2.5 with no bugs and landscape?
Just something Ive been curious about.
Correct me if I'm wrong :maybe because the HD2 hasn't got any landscape ?
HTC Touch Sense (AKA Manila 2.5) is developed for the HD2 which has no slide out keyboard. The home screen is best viewed "up right" and not in landscape. The only screens that HTC thinks is better viewed or shows more, are the music & photo screens. These 2 screens only use the G-sensor and not the slide out keyboard as the HD2 (Leo) has no keyboard. Until we see newer phones proceeding the HD2 that has keyboard support, we will have limited support for landscape on all Touch Sense screens.
P.S. this has been asked already on this forum
I forgot to ask: What bugs are you referring to?
Thats a good point about the landscape, didnt think about it. But I guess the overall smoothness of the whole thing. One I can think of, though i read this rom specific, is facebook integration not 100%. I played with a Moto Droid and android was really smooth and fast, I guess I was more asking why it cant be smooth like android is. Winmo would really be the superior if it had the smoothness of android. Sorry to mispost. I shouldn't post questions at 3am

the main reason for the sluggishness is because it was designed for a phone with almost twice the processor as we have on our tp2's. if we put manila 2.1 on an apache it would be the same story, its the hardware thats holding it back
Yea, I bought this only satisfy my gadget withdrawal until the HD2 is released here. Still a nice phone.

Dell are idiots...no 2.2..
hollllllyyyyy snappppp!!!!!!cool...waiting for the release...thx m8 for sharing!
better than F**K all ......................................but not that much
seems a bit sad when i can run 2.2 on my HERO!
To tell you the truth i don't mind getting 2.1 it will give me something new to play with whilst we are waiting for 2.2

Same here, plus Im using ADW launcher now with the droid X theme (looks great) which kind of negates a lot of the Dell stuff already and gives me loads of layout and UI options and portrait everywhere. So the things I really need now to make it a great experience is a better dialer. Keyboard fix - though I will prob install HTC multitouch, and most importantly proper multitouch which I assume this 2.1 build has.. which will finally allow for a decent gaming experince with emulators etc. I was actually quite happy with the camera interface, but the HD video is a big plus.
Sadly Dell screwed up with the software from the beginning and now they are rapidly losing potential customers with all this waiting around. The custom taskbar has its plusses but they would have won big if instead of wasting time customising the UI they launched this awesome device with a stock froyo build from release and then added custom touches, anyway lets hope 2.2 is on the way as the performance improvement would be great.
The point is we are supposed to get flash which needs 2.2 whens that gonna come next year?
First, i'm not an iphone user Okay? i'm not gonna buy any iphone right? Only i have some questions.
I have no doubt android is the best operating sistem on this moment, i love it, but i still loving windows, but more android =).
i can see a big big advances on rom develop, and a big increment of the speed on the hd2 ( and other android devices ) BUT!! STILL, not smooth, i mean, the hd2 have kicks on some times, the feel is not 100% fluid as posible.
Please, you can see spb mobile shell 5 on android runs perfectly smooth, i mean is a software problem right?
PD: For example, the menu is not smooth, is ugly at far, not like winmo, Winmo still more smooth than android ( at this moment ).
what i say with all this?
the problem of the menu scrolling ( no smooth ) is a problem software, again i mention it SPB mobile shell, looks ****ing smooth.
please don't be ungry with me, and talk like a civilized people
And again, excuse my english.
thanks to all posible answers to me ^^
The HTC HD2 is build fore WM 6.5!
Okay lot of users have make Android versions to run on a HTC HD2, and if you look on the way how, you will see the android builds are from Android devices, it mean not 100% I will be sure by the time thy will get 99,9% to match with the HTC HD2 give it some time.
That's way you see/have this problem of smoothness.
If you look into the Android build threads you will see that there are different builds, some match better than other one.
Give it some time!

Try not to swear mate, younger ones come on this site too
Its because HD2's are not made to run android, so currently its not 100%.
Having said that, it runs smooth enough for me...
the only problem I have is the god awful battery life.

Muiui is "smooth" better than launcher pro or others, but still not stable, i have some crashes, and lags.
maybe on the future.
THanks guys, really not only the hd2 gets lags, the Desire of my friend looks like mi htc hd2 ( not smooth )
HD2 runs wm 6.5, everything else is just a BONUS.
Desire HD! FTW!
i just don't get one thing - how can you compare something with spb mobile shell 5 which as far as i know has not been released yet? also check the video below, shell 5 is quite laggy to me in comparison to froyo 2.2 with sense i am running on my hd2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS_aQKJ-Zc8
i see... but why is not smooth android?
any reason? not only on hd2, also on other android devices..
Can you explainme why? ( the drivers, the software, maybe the hardware ( imposible ))
EDIT: On the samsung galaxy S i can see spb mobile shell runs smooth o.o
BUt on windows mobile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McbR4M9lA94
And the samsung galaxy S, i can't find the video but it runs good
android still doesn't have hardvare accelerated GUI. some parts (like app drawer) are implemented with HW acceleration but most of android GUI is still SW rendered
Spb is on the galaxy s?
And android runs smooth enough for me

let's wait for gingerbread...there seems to be GUI acceleration support, also supported by upcoming opera browser

It seems to me that the app drawer is like the only time I notice it not seeming smooth - every place else it is about on par with WinMo

Yes, spb mobile shell 5 has versions for both android and winmo now!. I hope that they sell it to consumers also and not just to OEMs and manufacturers. Its already been released to manufacturers... looks awesome. A major step up from 3.5. It takes the best parts of androids, winmos, and iPhones ui and puts them together beautifully.

i find it hard to figure out what is so amazing with mobile shell 5.0 apart from the carousel thingy which looks cool to play with for a couple of hours or show off.

Not angry with you buddy at all - I had same questions few months ago UNTIL I started dealing with real phone and good good build ...
First of all - my build I am running is super smooth - I had iPhone guys be amazed when they saw how the phone works and how smooth menus are. It really depends what you use and how you set it up - Android is highly customizable!
Therefore, I recommend that you try out mccm 1.5 build with Launcher Pro Plus and set everything the way you like it ... you will love it!!!
BTW - on SetCPU make sure you use INTERACTIVE mode - that will make menus run very smooth!!!
FYI - my battery is about 20-22 hours between the charges with normal use, web-browsing on 3G, talking, SMS, etc... so if you want smooth you gotta sacrifice some battery juice

that explains it all. no hardware acceleration for UI = sluggishness on HD2
this makes a lot of sense since my HTC Desire (Native android 2.2) runs very very fluid..
cant we hack a driver and port it?
No it's just the GUI on android on a whole is not hardware accelerated, for any device. They still haven't implemented it yet.
Well I think that android meant devices will outperform our hd2's, so i find it no surprise your desire seems smoother to you.
However in terms of smoothness and speed, I think the best we can get out of our hd2's are non sense builds, and projection's/cotulla's desire builds.
Discard my little one got my phone

wow, have yall seen how smooth windows phone 7 is? the pinch to zoom , the great animations when going from app to app or screen to screen... apple pinch to zoom is better smooth and if you've seen windows phone 7, it seems like the manufacturer of the iphone gave the tips to windows phone seven manufacturers because pinch to zoom is almost identical in the browser. However, with ANDROID, it's not as nearly as smooth even without flash 10.1.. yall can't deny that and it's kind of annoying. Its with all android phones.. the only thing that comes close to iphone pinch to zoom is sense running on a fast processor but even then its still not as buttery. I wonder what you guys think. Will gingerbread address the lag with the browser?
Why on Earth did you feel this belonged in the Vibrant general forum? The browser works just fine for me on all three Android phones I've owned, one of them not even being native Android (HD2). My Vibrant and EVO both ran/run beautifully smooth (after the lag fix on the Vibrant that is), in the browser and everywhere else where pinch to zoom was applicable...
I think its ugly.
I'm using bionix and I can't believe it's not butter.

Every thread you start you get in a fight with someone and yell how you have the right to post here.
This is the VIBRANT general section. Your post is about Android and WP7... not the Vibrant. Not only do I disagree with your sentiment, but you should not be posting this HERE.
Check out all of these threads you have started. This is absurd:

Well I know I plan to get a HD7. I think it looks pretty cool and I love that they are trying to create a completely new UI. Lets face it people, Android at times seems just like iOS but with more options. WP& is breaking some fresh air into the mix.
And why can't we talking about reasons to or not to get a WP7 phone over our vibrants? Seems like a topic for a vibrant forum to me. Back on the N1 forum we had topics about the reasons to upgrade to a vibrant from an N1 threads. Yea we had some people go in their and wine, but not like this thread..... Hell we even had a thread mentioning the good things about the iPhone 4 when it was announced and people didnt have to go in there and start flame wars....
Seriously the self named mods who go in a thread and wine need to go back and hide in whatever corner they came from. Against your popular beliefs your posts 1) do not delete a thread 2) give a bump to a thread you disagree with. See the irony here?
And to get back to what the OP was saying, yes WP7 does appear to be smoother and more polished than android. It doesn't have all the features yet but I'm guessing by mid 2011 it will have every major feature android has.
Whenever someone cries about features like pinch to zoom or people who brag about how many homescreens they have. I automatically think NOOB. might be just me but why come to vibrant section to troll about wm7. I probably will get a wm7 phone because im a gadget junky.
Do you feel better after making this thread?

WP 7 LOL
Windows products are always full of issues. I have a HD 2 and Vibrant. The hd2 even customized is only 65% as good as the Vibrant stock. I tried the WP7 its cool but it not Android. So, If you want to be wow'd by the baubles Like "it has a great pinch to zoom" feature Then you have identified yourself as a retail user.. Great !!
go buy one the others who know how to make a phones' op "Sing" will continue on
I'll have to agree with that. When I flick through homescreens, no matter what launcher I'm using, it doesn't even compare to my old ipod touch 2g, with its crappy 500mhz cpu. Same when I scroll through pages, etc. Apple just does a much better optimization of their OS in this way.
I'll keep my multitasking and copy & paste over a slightly better pinch n zoom. Some of the reviews I've been hearing about WP7 are bad. Like games taking 3 minutes to open and over slow 3rd party apps.
UI hardware acceleration. It is coming, but not here yet. I can live with a bit of UI lag, so long as it is consistant. Although it will be nice when we do get hardware acceleration.
*Picks Up My Out-Dated Zune HD*
Dude Your Late, Now. GTFO!
My G2 and Vibrant(after installing Bionix/Eugene's ROM and with Voodoo) both are butter smooth as my iPad and previously rented iPhone 4. G2 is butter smooth out of the box.
As previous user have pointed out Apple uses hardware acceleration (GPU); so the UI seems more responsive. Since they build everything in house this optimization can be done much easier than say for Google to cater to different hardware by many manufacturers.
Now the bad new: UI hardware acceleration is in Gingerbread.
I'm getting a Windows Phone 7 because the pinch to zoom is better.
In related news: I'm a total toolbag.

2 words. No multitasking.
Hello, I write to you all Arc owners because you have to know the truth!
With the last ics (and also gingerbread some apps) the phone is really slow opening simple apps like the gallery, the telephone dialer, and more things you perfectly know. The incredible comes now! I installed the xperia S ics apps, launcher etc, and incredibly all works like a charm. The gallery is incredibly fast, the telephone dialer opens very quickly, the launcher don´t have lag etc....
This is a Sony strategy to make us think that the arc is outdated and buy a new phone.....it´s a shame! Sony do the things right with 2011 xperias!!!!!!!!!!
we will need more feed back on this! cause its really getting very annoying to wait every time you want to dial a number!
for me it takes around 3 days after a restart when the dialer starts to lag..so i used to restart the phone every 3-4 days to make everything smooth again ..anyways xperia s ICS apps looks promising
Strange, my phone became slower once I installed the Xperia S ICS apps. Especially the dialer.
can i have the post from where to install the apps for Xperia S.
and a tutorial will also be appreciated !

Man this is F**king crazy. just installed it and now i can say that my ARC ICS is as smooth as gingerbread. How come that this made my ICS experience so good. its so smooth and no lag. I've have rooted my arc and i've deleted all the bloatware but it was still laggy.. now it's like ice on water.. so f**cking smooth.. try it and you wont regret it.
the album gallery, phone apps, contact apps and messaging apps is just great.
It is true, the Xperia S ICS launcher makes it much smoother now on old lovely Arc (LT15i), so I recommend everyone to try it. It is not just wishful thinking it really makes a difference. :good::good:
But I have a bug when I receive a call, the screen goes black for 3 seconds before I can answer the call, but I dont know why yet (Stock .431 firmware with Trinity kernel and Xperia S ICS launcher). :crying:

I´m an angry Xperia Arc user. Like other users i have been here giving feedback, requesting new things, but i see nothing..........xperia arc is laggy, slow, have and old kernel, etc. What happen with the galery? It´s pathetically slow, and the same for the music player when it have to load the covers, the launcher is not fluid and not to talk about the ics telephone dialer.
What makes me laugh is that yesterday I install in my arc the xperia s ICS apps, and what surprise! the gallery works super fast, launcher with no lag, walkman with equializer, mega bass, more and beautiful widgets, the phone dialer opens instantly and many other features.
Sony this is the promise of been updated 18 months? What Xperia arc users have done to deserve this?
Why the xperia S software works better on a 2011 telephone? Very bad sony!
Why don´t you install the new software in the 2011 phones by default, you have it already created!!! But no, you have to give us very bad optimized software, yes I understand this is an strategy to make us buying a new phone....this is the time to take note sony! Give us what whe want.
Would love to see reply from Sony!

Sony is playing their cards really well.making us believe that our ARC \ S is outdated & our hardware cannot handle ICS.The Xperia S ICS apps work really fast & with efficiency on our ARC \ S.Lets say for example Sony's latest models Xperia Miro , Tipo.these handsets r running 800mhz processor & Adreno 200.& to think these r getting the ICS out of the box.how is that possible ??? & seeing this i think the X10 community will be in a RIOT(i just moved from X10).
Our Handsets r more than capable of running ICS.
Sony disappointed me for sure.I think they did not even put in decent effort to build ICS for Xperia 2011 line up.they want us to think our phones r outdated & want us to buy their new "SONY" branded handsets..
Shame on u SONY !!!

No it does not shoot repeated shots, buy you can download the app called fast burst camera lite from the market that does. Also if you flash Arconium 4.0 and Trinity kernel V1.6, then flash the Xperia S apps you will have a nice fast and stable ICS.

it's a marketing strategy
if all 2011 xperia phones get the same software as those 2012 xperia phones
then there will be no selling points for those 2012 xperia phones
marketing is not just only about giving what customer wants, but also making customer wants.
but now it seems that sony just p*** us off by just porting some of the xperia S apps on gingerbread to ICS without optimizing them (while those news phones have new apps, e.g. dialer, walkman), some stock apps remains the same except a polished icon (like the stock alarm, music player, etc) i bet the xperia S apps on ICS are optimized for ICS
it's not the first time that sony p*** users off, everything marketing campaign (all early birds receive almost no promotional offer), releasing arc S at the same price of arc ~6 months after arc was released. sony makes beautiful phone but doesn't do beautiful marketing
