how to get picture from text message into camera roll? - XPERIA X10 General

as the subject states, I have a picture in my text message that I want to download into my camera roll. How do I do this?
Thanks guys.

Try copying the pic to the DCIM / 100ANDRO-folder on your SD-card.'
Might do the trick

That's the thing. How do I copy it down to the SD card?

Long press the photo and select copy attached to sdcard, it will then be placed on the sdcard under download.

You may well need a file manager, like Astro to locate it then move it to your picture folder, or indeed where you like!

I guess I assume everyone has one but yes you'll need a file manager to move it to wherever you want on the sdcard unless you move it mounting the phone via usb.

Okay so i copied them down to the sd card. I use a file manager to look at the sdcard, but what directory are they located in?

Use Astro File Manager, or better yet Root Explorer if you're rooted. My Files is extremely basic.
Downloaded astro. Found the files but feel stupid because it ended up being in dcim on the sd card. Thank you very much for your help.
There's just one more issue,i tried copying a file from the sd card into the font folder of the phone but it wouldn't let me.any idea why?

You need root access to do that, and Root Explorer, because RE uses Superuser and Astro does not.

Cut & Paste

ok ; this is probably a dumb question :
how do you cut and paste a file from your sdcard/bluetooth/blabla.mp3
to your phone/system/media/audio/notifications ?
i tried ASTRO File explore but i can't seem to copy/move it from the sdcard to the phone itself
ps: this is all new to me ( Android ) , its the first time we bought a Android phone .
I haven't used the Astra file menager, I use the EStrong one, but have you tried long pressing on the file to see if a menu pops up?
It does on Estrong
you can't copy files to your systemfolder because of the security on the phone.
You can try to create a folder ringtones on your sdcard, next you reboot the phone.
Then it should be reconized.
at some point you can, you need to root your phone and use "Root Explorer" and make "phone/system/media/audio/notifications" as R/W. then do what ever you like..
or you can make on sd card/media/audio/notifications and media/audio/ringtones
Don't mess with the internal storage too much.. that's the way Android wants it to be. Instead use a external storage card to store ringtones, music etc.

noob needs help! where is the root of the sd card?

I have the froyo update zip on my sd card. I moved it to downloads thinking that's where it needed to be since it was saved in my xscope downloads. I did the 3 finger salute and it shows an option to apply update via zip, but it says no file is found. Where do I need to put the file? I have es file explorer and andro zip. Thanks.
you need to move it from downloads to the entire section. If you do from downloads and go up one file, that is the SD card.

I don't know where it needs to be, but if you are looking for root... that is not in a directory, by definition. It's as high up as you can be while still in the SD card.
Root of the SD card just means it's not within a folder
Im sorry I still don't understand. Do I need to unzip it first? It shows it's at the bottom of the list in the download folder.
Don't unzip it. Move it from the download folder and leave it outside of any folder
Put it where it was before you moved it to downloads.

Here is the closest I can get to a guaranteed noob-proof explanation:
Rooms in your house are like the folders, leave the room and you're into the house (the root of the sd card)
bah! I got it guys. Thanks. Just had to hit the up arrow in andro zip and move it there. Thanks fellas.

[Q] Stupid question on SD Cards

Just got my Iconnia last week and it's stunning.
However if I drag .apk's onto my 32Gb SD Card I can't seem to find them using Linda File manager.
Is there a particular programme I need to use to access it?
When I look into Storage it only seems to show my internal memory, howevermy Gallery DOES find my camera pics on the card so what am I doing wrong?
Dragging using what ?? on desktop PC ?? ( best is to copy & paste )
for when on the iconia... I downloaded "Astro file manager" ... there are many others...etc
your Ext_SDCard and USB storage is under the sub directory of /mnt
You should post in the "General" section...as this is the "DEV" section...
File Manager for Honeycomb.
I ran into this problem when I first got mine too.
The external sd card is actually showing in mnt/external_sd in your root folder
Basically this means that when you use astro file manager or root explorer and you open that instead of clicking on sdcard you click the folder listed as "mnt" then external sd
Thanks Guys.
Mods - Can you please move this to general Doh!

[Q] astro file manager questions

This is my first android phone and have to admit i know very little about the technicalities of mobile phones although I consider myself very knowledgeable with anything to do with computers.
I recently installed astro file manager so I could move, rename file and folders. While exploring the file manager I noticed and mnt folder containing an sdcard folder, another folder called sdcard in the main directory and the emulated and sdcard0 folders contained within the storage folder. All the folders seem to have the same files and folders. Could anyone tell me the difference between the four folders. Sorry if it's a very noobish question.
Also can any one tell me why whatsapp images remain in the same folder in gallery although I have moved them in the file manager
Thanks
It's there for other devices. Tablets in 4.2.x has multi users. So storage would be separated between the two. It is called emulated to emulate the old folder naming scheme before 4.2.
Just ignore it, shouldn't make a difference.
As far as your folder and whatsapp, it needs to research it's contents. Restart your phone or plug it in via usb and unplug.
