Hey guys, i ordered two HDMI cables from this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-HDMI-Male-To-HDMI-1-4-Cable-for-Sprint-HTC-Evo-4G_W0QQitemZ320547178537QQihZ011QQcategoryZ20336QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
i plugged them up and tried to run some Futurama from my phone to my TV. plugging in the HDMI i get the notification in the status bar, but as soon as i hit play on a video the sound plays on the TV, but i get no video and my phone locks up. the only way i regain control is by pulling the battery and restarting.
what am i missing??
This happens to me as well. Happened occasionally w/ first OTA and now using CM6 nightlies as well.
i tried it three times in a row. same result every time. could it be something wrong with the OMJ 2.2 froyo rom i'm running?
What format is your futurama encoded in?
it's an MP4 that i encoded with HandBrake to the EVO's specs
What Brand/Model TV do you have Also If your using Netarchy's kernel for 2.2 HDMI out is broken till HTC releases the Source for 2.2
Doh! thats it then. i'm running the netarchy kernel. damnit. oh well. i'll keep chillin' until a fix comes out. thanks!!
You should try the cable on a stock kernel as well. I ordered a cable from ebay as well and it froze my phone. Bought a molex cable and it works fine. There was a bad batch of the gold plated ones I hear, I guess you get what you paid for lol.
It seems Molex is the only manufacturer of these Micro HDMI cables that is legit. I wouldn't buy one unless it's made by them.
the two i got work just fine. no issues at all

Has anyone tried to use tv out on the fascinate? Its the main reason I got the phone only to find out it may not have this function like the other galaxy s phones. Does anyone have a cord to try it with?

I would but damn, 50 bucks for the Micro USB to HDMI cable from samsung.
I'm more interested in the rca out from the headphone jack actually

Tried earlier with a Zune video cable but no luck. May be the cable however, can't ring it out to confirm until Monday.
Any links to confirm pinout of the headphone connector on the Fascinate in the meantime?
I saw a video earlier today showing a prevew of the 3.5mm jack to rca on the international galaxy s, and it was enabled through settings > sound & display, but looking at my phone, I do not see tv out and sub menu that the person navigated in order to enable tv out.
Hmm.
sorry double post
I was looking for this function too and can confirm it is not listed under the settings. How likely is it that the hardware was changed to remove this feature?
It looks like there are still four contacts inside the 3.5mm jack on the phone. I'm hoping that means the hardware hasn't been changed and only the software so that someone can potentially get the tv out function working on the fascinate

I hope so, was really looking forward to playing NES/SNES via a bluetooth controller (Wii Remote, anyone?) on a TV from my Fascinate!
Itll work just swap the red n yellow cables

i ordered a 3.5mm jack to rca cable, will see if it works when it gets here.
It was tested on a captivate and worked, so we will see, it was cheap so no big deal.
All I have at my disposal right now is a 3.5mm Stereo Plug To Dual RCA Jack Adapter but all it has is red and white. Will testing that lead to anything while I wait for the other cable?
Plug the red where the yellow go n the white in its right place. Make sure you have tv out selected in settings first. It should show on your tv.

Some of you proabably already know this, but for those of you who don't, check this out. If you have a PS3, and it's connected to your home network, you can stream movies off your phone, through the PS, onto your TV, using the AllShare app. It's not the greatest quality, but certainly ups the wow factor of this phone when you demonstrate it for your friends. Also, if your TV is networked as well, you can use your phone as a remote to stream the movies on your computer to your TV, and these play in excellent quality.

Unless samsung removed that feature, it should be in. They claimed the galaxy S line did t.v. out. I know i tested on the vibrant and it worked for all but copy protected movies.

I think for whatever reason, some settings that come with other galaxy s phones, do not come with the fascinate. The obvious one is tv out, then I also read about being able to change the font to a few different preset options, but also cannot locate that feature. There are probably more left out features that I don't know about, due to never playing with any of the other galaxy s variants.

It is definetly not in the software options, however I would not be suprised if Samsung left it out (it is not on the Epic 4g either) until 2.2 so as to help promote the HDMI output option as well. (Why buy RCA for $10 when you can get HDMI for $50 mentality)
Just speculation on my part, I have no idea why the option does not appear. However I would really like to see someone compare the dumps from on of the other US models and compare to see if we can add it in

look in the sounds and display options. it's the last option in that menu on Vibrant.
As said previously the option is not there on the samsung fascinates menu.
I have the cable and it worked on my Captivate, but I dont have a Fascinate in front of me (yet). I would assume with no setting to turn on, you (we, since I have two on order) are out of luck. I know with my Captivates, it worked only when enabled. Mine should be here the 22nd and then I can check.

Micro-USB and HDMI are two different standards that don't mix. Would not work.
Can you Bluetooth to your car? That's how I do it and it works great!
After researching, it appears that there may be a cable made by Samsung that converts Micro-USB to HDMI, but whether or not it works on our phones, or at all for that matter, is not confirmed.
seen a picture of a cable for the hdmi and was told by sprint rep there will be one but have not found one yet, or maybe samsung snowjobed me. the 1/8" cable i am looking for converts the 4 segment plug to a 3 segment plug and i dont need any other extra microphone or volume control that probably wont work anyway

so that is it than .I was tricked into buying it over the evo. now the only thing it has going for it is the hardware keyboard . And I also expect it will never see froyo either .and no rooting either like the evo . samsung the liars!! knew I should have got the evo, and my couz will never stop giving me crap about it now.
Get a dlna dvd player as a dedicated media player and use the allshare from your epic to the player..went to best buy they have an lg blu ray dlna player for around 189. I can already stream from my windows 7 laptop to the epic with a small amount of buffering. Better yet get a ps3 and use that hdmi out and a dlna player AIO.

It will 100% see Froyo as we have Froyo leaks on the other phones. We already have root...and as for the HDMI <-> microsub...if Samsung does not make it work I'm pretty sure the community will..

Was just at BestBuy, they have in a Micro USB to HDMI cable for 29.99, made by Dynex.
Ofcourse this will only work on the Evo, as the Epic wouldn't send any video out that port i think.

Two different cables. The Evo uses "micro-HDMI" to HDMI and Samsung phones use "micro-USB" to HDMI. The Epic does NOT (presently) have a video out option, so neither will work. Save your $.

You can easily get video out on the Epic, use a 3.5mm to RCA cable.

Yes, I tried it with two 3.5mm to RCA cables I have. None work. No software options to turn on, either.

Have you tried another HDMI cord or using the built in speaker connections? Personally I have had two bad HDMI cables in the last month that experienced similar issues. You might even try the optical output as well if you can. These still have a warranty. Contact Google for help.
i bought it from some guy that attended google IO. where can i get another cable? hdmi or something else
Any micro-hdmi cable will do.
I'm having the same issue though.
just tried the q on a different tv, worked right away....... my main living room big tv has only worked like 5 out of a billion tries

Hi all
I bought one of these from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Slimport-HDMI-adapter-Connect-projector/dp/B009UZBLSG/ref=cm_rdp_product however when I try to use it nothing happens
just wondering if anyone else has one of these, does the screen rotate to Landscape when you put just the adapter in (Not connected to a HDMI cable?)
I have tried it on a TV that has HDMI and as a long shot i tried it on my HDMI->DVI lead that connects my monitor to my PC - No go in both cases
Not sure at this stage if the adapter is broken, or my Phone isnt working.

No problem here. The screen doesn't rotate until the HDMI end is plugged in the TV.
How much are these selling for?
Tried it on 4 TVs now with lots of different HDMI cables and it doesnt seem to work, so that leaves either a faulty adapter or faulty Nexus 4!
(I am right in thinking its just plug and play, i dont need to enable anything on my N4?)

Correct. In my case it only rotates when I plug in the HDMI cable and it works beautifully. No issues whatsoever. I hope it's the adapter and not your phone!

I have one from the same source and it works like a charm via an 83p HDMI cable (similar source) to all 3 TV sets I've tried it with.
I bought one from Amazon here in the US, via http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009UZBLSG/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
got it Christmas eve, plugged into TV1 didn't work, thought it was my HDMI cable, tried it with TV2, worked right away. went back to TV1, didn't work, went back to TV2, didn't work. Reboot, didn't work, fiddled with the cable, worked for a few minutes, then stopped working.
Everytime I want to watch something, I spend about 15-20 minutes jiggling the adapter, unplugging, replugging the adapter to get it working again. 2 nights ago, I watched a movie, it worked, every minute or so it would give me a snow screen for half a second. Last night tried to watch another movie, spend 30 minutes with it, won't come on.
A friend has a N4 as well, going to go to his house tonight to see is it the adapter or my phone
edit: I went to my friend's home and tested it using his Xbox360 HDMI connection, neither his phone or my phone would display video, his TV simply said "no signal" I am sending it back to Amazon, and getting a full refund. Probably going to just grab a PTV3000 instead

I am sending it back to shipper for full refund. Only getting the refund because they cant provide me with a replacement at the moment.
Quite dissapointed that it didnt work Might have to look into Mirracast!
Does only the PTV3000 support Mirracast or will anything that supports intel Widi work? Such as this.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-ScreenCast-Adapter-Windows-Wireless/dp/B0061KCPF6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357778497&sr=8-1

Any one know?
It has to be Miracast compliant to work with the Nexus 4. That Belkin thing will NOT work with the N4. The Belkin is WiDi not Miracast.
The only wireless adapters on the market currently that are tested and known to work (with beta software) are:
Netgear Push2TV PTV3000
Actiontec SBWD100KIT01 ScreenBeam Wireless Adapter/Kit
Both can be found on Amazon. The Netgear can also be found in some Best Buy stores.
(I own the Netgear one and can confirm from 1st hand, daily use, that it does work with the N4.)

Better then waisting time transferring mp3 to Xbox, Ps3 networked computer or wireless hard drive. Save your money if you are not looking to store music in hard drive.

The HTC One X uses an MHL adapter for tv-out.
The Nexus 5 uses a Slimport adapter.
They are not compatible, although they look similar.
I'm just posting this in case others are having this issue... When I got my backed out a it was slow on response and figured it was a wip and would get better...it never did...until I was at my friends showing them xbmc and decided to play ice rage and to my surprise it was buttery smooth....I figured the last update fixed it however when I got home it was dead slow again... So I switched HDMI cords and put it on my other TV and bam perfect.. So it could be something worth trying if your game is slow. This was all factory HDMI cable and all...the aftermarket Philips HDMI cable was way better. Hope this helps some.

I've already tested this too, but with old HDMI cable (1.2, 1.3, don't know) and nothing happened. Use Tegra Overclock OUYA, if you have stock cooling it might be noisy, but perfect. OUYA use Tegra profile for decoding I think it's about 200MHz - 350MHz and it's really too slow, if you are running at max 520MHz it's a way better.
That doesn't make any sense. An HDMI cable is just an HDMI cable. It could be that you're using 720p instead of 1080p now (you said you switched TVs), which would make a difference.

HDMI cable or TV theoretically can make a difference - I've had a couple inexpensive android sticks (the tiny ones that look like usb drives) not be able to drive a signal to my (crappy, off-brand, but generally decent) TV because the HDMI power draw was too great. (I know this seems like a really weird thing, right? common sense says "huh? it's just digital video and audio data right?" but there is in fact power requirements). shorter and better quality cable actually fixed it for me.
but - usually it's an all or nothing situation. you get the signal or you don't. lower machine performance wouldn't be indicated, I think.
