3 things to the left of the speaker... What is 3rd?

So I've always just accepted there was no lcd notification light.
Today I looked really close and I'm seeing 3 items. From left to right:
1. Proximity sensor (which works really well)
2. WHAT IS THIS?
2. Ambient light sensor
Or are two things used for one function?
1. Proximity sensor
2. Proximity sensor
3. Ambient light sensor.
A proximity sensor is two parts: an infra-red transmitter and a receiver. It measures the amount of light that bounces back to determine how close your face is.

Good to know, thanks.
Well, that was a short thread.

It doesn't look like a proximity sensor, it looks like a camera
Troll ....
I remember reading in a thread somewhere that the lights that are behind the soft keys are all individually lit (you can see it turns off the light of the key you push if you hold your phone sideways and look under your finger) and they were looking to create a code or app that will turn one of them into a notification light our a combination of them to specify different types of notifications.
wish I could remember if I even read it here or not.... Sounds like its doable and a viable alternative to an led, cept prob uses alot more battery
At least one of the three will light up. When I installed SIP Droid to connect to my VoIP server at the office, one of them lit up red as a connection error.

What is second LED for in wildfire?

On front side, wildfire has two LEDs, on either side of phone speaker, on is for msg/call/charging and many, what is second for?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Hi,
On the Front one Led is the msg/call/charging etc, and the other is a sensor.
While calling someone,if you put the phone to your ear,it will go black as if it is switched on however if you pull it away from your ear it will wake up again. i think it prevents and keys being Unnecessary being touched / pressed..
but i`m not 100% sure
Hope that helps.
True, also light sensor is for automatic brightness.
no, on right of phone speaker there is one sensor as well as LED.
sensor is for all what you guys said, don't know what's second LED for.
I hope you're not talking about the camera flash..
On the left side of the speaker is green/red notification/charge LED. Two holes on the right side of the speaker are NOT LEDs, theese are sensors. The one closer to speaker is proximity sensor (locks the screen and turns it of during a call if it is close to your head) and the second one is light sensor (for automatic brightness) Install sensor list from market to test this
Thanks mate

[Q] Anyone able to locate just where the light sensor is?

This may be a total noob question, but I was just curious to know the exact location of the light sensor because I cant seem to figure out where it is located.

That dot that looks like a front facing camera (FFC) - that is your sensor there that controls screen on/off on calls and the auto brightness.

Are you sure, because when I ran sensor test that dot did change the proximity sensor values, but the light values wouldnt change even if I covered it completely.
The only way I was able to change the light value was to move the whole phone into a darker or brighter location, but not by finding a pinpoint sensor on the phone.
Edit 2: When I cover the proximity sensor dot (the obvious one) with my finger and shine a light at the phone, nothing happens, and when I remove my finger from the dot and shine a light right on it, the screen gets brighter. I suspect both sensors are in the same spot (the plastic dot you see probably transmits ambient light to the light sensor as well as housing the proximity sensor, in the way many computers use a little clear/frosted plastic piece to indicate the status of an LED that is buried in the chassis.
Try it with a flashlight and see if you get different results.
If you are interested in disabling the light sensor go into settings and manually set your brightness.
I have to say the proximity sensor works much better than on my Hero.

i noticed the proximity sensor responds much faster than the one on my Evo
The light sensor is just to the right of the proximity sensor under the speaker grill. Turn on auto-brightness and test it with your finger.

I guess that's why it would be working better!

Oversensitiveness of proximity sensor?

I don't know if it is the proximity sensor or not, but when I go outside my screen just turns off. Whether its in the boot animation or android fully loaded, it just turns off everytime I'm outside. Like the phone is oversensitive to daylight or something. Running cm7 latest nightly and I have tried other nightlies but same issue. Any ideas?

It's not the proximity sensor. Proximity sensor only works when the phone is in call.
You might have meant light sensor, but it can't turn off the screen.

My proximity sensor will lit up the red light whenever I open up TalkBox app, I don't understand why as that app doesn't even use proximity sensor, maybe a bug or coding error in the program.

i guess its a wetness sensor.. as i just experienced this issue some time back...
i had just taken a bath n my cell starting ringing, i went ahead n received the call without drying myself. As soon as i ended the call my screen went off, there was this red light coming out of one of the sensors, and the phone wasn't even switching on. I had to remove the batteries and place them back after which it started like normal.

Talkbox uses the proximity sensor to determine how you are listening to your messages. If you hold the phone up to your ear then it will play the message through the earpiece. If you hold it away from your face then it will use the speaker.

It may be a bug or something... Did you try updating your phone, or flashing a new stock/custom ROM to see if the problem remains ?
Proximity sensor which is located beside the front facing camera will always be activated whenever you're in a call. It's slightly red in colour, and more noticable in a dark room. To see the proximity sensor in action you can go to the phone dialer and key in *#0*# and it will bring up the LCD test. Select sensor and you can see the red light of the proximity sensor being lit up. Hover your finger or an object over the proximity sensor (need not to be covering the sensor) and the phone will vibrate and so will the background change to green.

Lol at you... Did you even bother reading the first page of the thread ? Guess not, since you're just repeating what we already told the guy
