Played with.the D2 with froyo and same internals as my x,benchmarks almost exactly the same i guess moto is the only manufacturer. That couldn't pull off a 450% speed increase. It makes me ****in sick that my 2.1update 1 can get 1300 on quadrant and with froyo it can barely top that. Man it makes me sooooooo mad and sick at my stomach

Id like to take a look at the code Motorola used to enable JIT. I wonder if they "dumbed" it down for any reason. Maybe we aren't getting everything JIT has to offer with Moto's flavor of 2.2.
If this is the case I believe they owe us some reasoning for this. I don't want to hear instability either. You don't need to cut JIT down that far to increase its stability. My Nexus one has it unhindered and I don't have a damn issue.
All i know is that this is making me want to get rid of my x. With 2.1 it has the highest linpack and quadrant of any 2.1 phone ever made. If this is what they choose to do ill b going directly to samsung. This was one of the biggest disappointments in a long time. Im likely don't with moto. Makes me not even care about froyo and makes the far more powerful TI OMAP useless if they aren't going to use it to its fullest potential. Man im so pissed

What difference do the scores mean? Does the phone do what u want it to in a quick manner. I'm not sure why everyone makes such a big deal with these meaningless scores.
Nothing reallly. Just moto makes excellent hardare only to always dissapoint when it comes to software. The D1 2.1 update. That was much ado about nothing, i suspect that's exactly how the froyo update will turn out. Im over it now. Either way im going to get the fascinate when it comes out. No biggie. Unless they suprise me with the feoyo update, they may just not want the d2 to out do the x considering the x is te flagship. Either way its just a phone. And i AM allowed to b a little disappointed considering the amount of money i've got n it. Oh well. Only time will tell.

I'm slightly worried by the low benchmark numbers as well, but I'm going to hope that it's just because these benchmarks are synthetic.

Yes. I've been looking all day to see what my options are when it comes to getting a galaxy s. Im sooooo pissed. Its not that the benchmarks matter its that they took an amazing price of hardware and ****ed it software wise, no lube, he'll they didn't even spit on it first

i played with the droid 2 today also and the lag was unbelievable, two different phones.....couldn't scroll through the apps because there was so much lag that it would open the app i was touching instead of scrolling.....something's not right with that.
Like i said. It was just a huge let down, but, that's exactly how my x was at first so who knows. When i first got it i cudnt get quadrant past 600 but played with it for a while and a few good charges and its blistering fast now. Like i said i absolutely LOVE the hardware, moto has really ****ed the software aide of things on this though. Like i said if the 2.2 on the D2 is any sign of what's coming to the x i foresee craigslist or ebay for my x n the near future, and with no announcement insight for the fascinate i may also foresee a new carrier.

Don't be in such a hurry to jump ship to a SGS device. I had a Captivate for three weeks. Samsung really screwed up the software implementation with the internal memory. It had a LOT of lag. The ATT market was almost unusable for me. When I wanted to update numerous apps I would have to wait for one app to completely download and install before the screen would refresh and I could select the second app to update.
The DroidX feels A LOT faster to me than my Captivate did.
Sure, I could have implemented the Mimocan fix (but, since I was considering turning it in I didn't) and some other things.
But, Samsung isn't releasing the carrier specific parts of thier kernals/boot.img's either. And, with the dev DX that birdman has... We are just as likely to have a chance at putting custom ROM's/kernels on the DX as they will be on the SGS devices.
The Captivate had the power button on the other side of the device from the volume rockers - a pain since I was constantly pushing one or the other when I didn't want to.
Bottom line - each device has its own unique drawbacks.
I like my DX MUCH better than the SGS Captivate - not looking back.
Don't jump ship to the Galaxy...we're so close to custom roms. I know benchmark tests will be what you'd expect for froyo then.
K. So after a long day of sulking and being dissapointed n moto. I have decided to have faith n everyone at xda and the birdman. I mean i love my phone. Just dissapointed n the ways that some of the software is implemented by moto. So, with that said. Sorry about the rant guys. I love my x and will refrain from kicking a moto rep n the nuts at least until we get a chance to try some roms. Thanks for the encouragement. I would have missed hearing. Dddrrrooooooiiiiiid everytime i get a text. All hail droid!

you can hear when you get a text msg?
Why is everyone saying they are going to drop there X and maybe even switch carriers over a benchmark number?
If your not happy with your device then get a DINC... Their fully S-OFF unlocked now if all you care about are custom roms

I jumped into the android world with an eris initially to see if I liked the software environment longterm and knowingly purchased a max 1 year hardware device. I have come to love the android world and thus held out for a device with solid hardware and a lifespan that would eek out 2 years.... It has been proven that anything android can be perfected through roms and kernels and recent unexpected progress has been awesome. I am thankful to birdman and others that put time in so we can all fully enjoy the capabilities of the hardware we invest in. The freedoms and opportunities we enjoy in this environment are exceptional. I am stoked to see that you are hanging around and personally I have never been more excited about what is to come for this device.

Samsung should take notes from Motorola.
The Droid 2 is breaking records in sales, mostly due to
marketing the Android 2.2 software and UI. Samsung has to hurry and get Froyo to the masses of Galaxy S owners and sell the hell out of it.
They have to keep up with the Jonses in order to sell these phones.
I think T-Mobile should step in and push this with their partners and have a huge re-launch of the phone. The vibrant is a great phone It just needs better marketing and cutting edge UI.
What do you think?
That's why it's called Samsung and T-mobile.
I'm thinking Samsung will announce something at IFA, which starts September 2nd. Their twitter keeps saying they're making a lot of big announcements. I'm hoping to get a definitive date for froyo then or at very least, the GPS fix.
Yeah I definetly agree with you. These Galaxy S phones have the hardware, but not the killer software to match it.
I was set on buying an iPhone, because I had no clue a phone like this even existed on my network.
But Samsung is by no means stupid and have been making some really indicative suggestions that we will be seeing some big changes in software in the next couple of months.
I'm more than sure that we will get Froyo, GPS fixes, and more by the end of September.
WHAT?!?!
FIRST:
the X doesn't have froyo. They have a leaked version with piss poor benchmarks.
SECOND:
the galaxy is always having a commercial on tv.
Their also selling very well.
He's referring to the "Droid 2", not the "Droid X."
I think that us techno gadget geeks here on xda certainly care about Froyo. But out of all the people I know that are in the market for a new smart phone, or actually have android phones, they don't care about froyo, or even really know what that is if you mentioned it. I think the masses care about getting on facebook and taking a picture with their phone, etc... I think the silly things like having avatar on it are a bigger selling point to the masses compared to which version of android it has on it.

Ha. Same here. People at work ask me questions about my "droid phone". My co-worker said she almost bought a droid the other day. I asked her which one and she said, "you know, the droid phone," as if there's only one. I've explained to them before what android is but it clearly doesn't sink in. I think its safe to say most people that aren't tech nerds are clueless. Even my iphone sporting friends don't know what Android is.
Pretty much they only care can about the surface stuff really. My brother in law has a news girlfriend who had a hero and didn't even know about the market on it at all. She didn't even know it was android.

Yea I will have to agree that the mainstream consumer isn't going to know what version of android they're running/if they have an android phone/care about updates. All they're going to see is the big screen and avatar on the vibrant and want to buy it. The tmobile store demos has a little sign listing the specs like 1ghz processor but a good mass of people won't have a clue what that even means.
Hopefully froyo comes in September because I decided to not go the rooting route this time and just patiently wait it out. I would be annoyed if they waited until the fascinate came out to release froyo.
Where do you see the Droid 2 is breaking sales records? Have you seen the numbers for Galaxy S phones? They expect to sell 10 MILLION over the next 12 months. That's more than iPhone 4 by itself. Samsung has got the Galaxy S on pretty much every provider in every country, I would have to call that pretty damned good marketing. The fact that a few hundred or every a few thousand people are chomping at the bit for Froyo doesn't even begin to move the needle enough for them to even care. The fact that they are moving forward and will be pushing updates and Froyo soon enough means that all the gearheads like us will be recommending the phone to everyone we know.
Missing the boat? I beg to differ, I would say they built the damned boat this year and are fully in charge of its direction.
I really don't understand how the OP says that Samsung is missing the boat with Froyo. They already announced that it will be released in the early part of Sep. A few extra weeks won't KILL YOU!

No, it won't kill us, but it will make me think about getting another Samsung.
If Samsung wants to add TouchWiz on their phones, then they should be prepared to react quickly when a new OS upgrade arrives. They've certainly had enough time before the Froyo original announcement.
The fact that they are lagging behind with what is supposed to be their flagship device, makes me nervous about how long it will take for the upgrade to OS 3.0, which will be a much more significant upgrade.

oh my god, a froyo thread with a REAL information and not total speculation! will pigs fly next!?
pigs have flown i has seen them.
Don't look up though, they'll poop on your head.
So itll take another month and then we might get it? So we are looking at another full month before it even begins in the US? Thats interesting. Im curious as to what is so different between the UK/US versions that they need a whole month more to get it ready....if this hardware wasnt so awesome i might be tired enough of the update game to dust off my nexua. Hell by the time the vibrant gets froyo my nexus may very well have gingerbread and then ebay will he my vibrants new home. Its starting to look as though all the samsung android customers were right all along to warn against getting a samsung device....when I had my g1, mt3g, and nexus, all through those I recall reading so much about how bad Samsung is about updates. But their phones blew so it didn't really resonate with me. But my wife got a vibrant and I was happy to get the free one that came with it because the hardware is definitely a step above my n1, the vibrants camera is as good as advertised.
But I wonder how many galaxy s owners had previously owned Samsung phones. Because Samsung owners are always complaining (rightfully so) about all the delays, and here I join them. So even though the galaxy s is selling out of its mind, Samsung is still dragging its feet on updates. I for one wont buy another Samsung unless its so far ahead of the game that I can't get a comparable HTC. So even though they are breaking sales records, I wonder what samsungs repeat business statistics look like. Because there are only so many people left for Samsung to alienate, these sales figures might really be misleading regarding potential if. Afterall froyo isnt a maintenance update we are waiting for spped, adobe flash and more, its a serious update and by the looks of it, if and when we do get it, gingerbread will just he released. I am uncomfortable with a phone that is an entire update period behind, makes me kinda anxious. I think with all the competition, delaying updates can really hurt a company's reputation. Aside from some glaring design negligence (camera flash, no trackball/pad, volume buttons directly opposite power button(counterintuitve/awkward to press one without pressing the other), and no extra mic for background noise, this phone is an absolute beast, with tweaks it could be the most powerful hardware until the next galaxy s phone, i love having all this power. But remaining so far behind the software will really start becoming noticeable even to the novice, as features are advertised for newer software on newer devices and people wonder why they don't have the features even though they ostensibly have the software...
OK yea so I just ranted and wasted several valuabke minutes of your life. In turn I hope you will all feel free to waste my time on this forum any time you'd like to ; )

Yep. Samsung sucks.
I might dump mine and dust off my 3Gs, and wait to see the new hardware with Gingerbread.
Tired of the update wait, tired of the crappy battery life.

What sucks is that Gingerbread, yet rumored is supposed to launch this month yet. It's sad that we don't have Froyo yet and yet there's talk of Gingerbread launching. The "Nexus 2" was the only phone as of yet to come with Gingerbread though isn't it? (might be others..) Still sucks we are waiting for 2.2 yet the MT2G has froyo and the Droid Series does.
The rumored date for Gingerbread is Nov15, maybe we will get 2.3 instead of 2.2 =D Wishful thinking.

The fact that a Samsung phone is getting Gingerbread first makes me a LOT less worried about getting it on our Vibrants soon. It should be much easier to port.
So the wait for FROYO has taken a while. I expect the wait for Gingerbread to be a lot shorter.

I'm running stock with root and removed the bloatware.
I'm more frustrated at the fact at how much time it's taken to push the update. Samsung promised we would get 2.2, didn't say when, but did say we would get it. Yet we are going on 4 months now and "possbily" getting it Nov-Dec?
I love the phone, but the JI6 destroyed the battery life, that's my only problems. GPS is okay, still needs fixes but hopefully that will come.
I just want Samsung to support the damn device and not screw us. Watch, the UK Galaxy S will get Froyo and when time comes for us to "have it" they'll pull the switch-a-roo and say "Oops, it doesn't work so you won't get the 2.2".
For a phone that sold millions its pretty ****ty of Samsung to not be updating their **** fast enough.

No pay day yet. This is Sammy's way of confessing they have been trying to do it their way instead of please the customer for too long.
It still remains to be seen what they actually DO about it.
We all know what pathway good intentions paved =]
The bottom line is until sammy gets the carriers in line, and froyo gets released before its 1st birthday! People will rant with good reason. Btw gingerbread has been out for like 3 months! We have a top of the line device running an os from 2009. Honestly I love the hardware but I can't handle this bad os support.

Whoever even buys another Samsung flagship phone with the belief that they learned their lesson deserves what they are going to get and shouldn't complain anymore. If you haven't realized what their intent is, which is maximum profit with the least effort, while actually making it seem like they kind of care with PR rep's that promise things that they cant' actually commit to. INB4C
My friend asked me what phone he should buy, and looked at the Galaxy S2 and the Motorola Atrix. It was a no brainer which phone was the winner. Go Atrix! Pre-ordered and waiting! He was waiting for a nice dual core phone, but after the mess he has heard from me with Samsung, he said he definitely doesn't want to go through the same thing. To be honest, this crap is making me sick to my stomach just talking about anymore, cause we've all been crapped on, and it doesn't feel nice.
I'm not surprised in the least that Samsung would think that this meaningless gesture would diffuse this issue, but I'm honestly SHOCKED that "Xda leaders" would put any thought into this. I suspect they're making money off this, somehow.
This site has lost its way badly.
At least it's a start and shows Samsung at least recognizes they've pissed off some people. It's better than what they've been doing which has been a whole lot of nothing.

Honestly, this was my first Samsung phone in about ten years is so far, it's my last.
It's not the lack of Froyo, this is just a simple annoyance. What killed it is GPS that works like crap, barely functioning accelorometer, retarded hardcoded GPS accuracy refusal to do anything about these two issues. I have a bad feeling that the last bug isn't a bug at all, but an attempt to cover up poorly functioning GPS on this phone. If I was Colbert, I'd wag my finger at them.

I don't even own a samsung phone. I own an LG, but thank you for listening to me and allowing me to pull your strings....Public Actions speak louder than words....oh and by the way. The Truth Is What You Make It, and Who You get To Believe In It.
No worries I'm just poking fun at this all. If people have gotten offended by it then the truth lies within the offended. Lol
now if Samsung were to really/officially be changing fo the people they would skip over froyo and be the first to update every galaxy s series to gingerbread. Or at least get froyo out and gingerbread soon after.
And powers at be, feel free to delete or modify this if you like. I've already gotten past the point of anger, and this whole samsung update bs is just a joke to me now. Samsung makes great dumb phones but a smart phone is just isn't worth it.
Too late, too slow, too little.
Samsung unfortunately is still working on the feature-phone timelines. What they (and most other android phone makers, with the possible exception of HTC) seem to not quite understand is that these smartphones are true computers now, and need to be treated as such. The OS is an integral part of phone, perhaps the most important part, and people will not tolerate a company that refuses to update an OS that both has critical bugs (and yes, the GPS bug is a CRITICAL bug), and appears incapable of utilizing the hardware it's surrounded by. It's like Microsoft refusing to repair a Windows bug that kept all printers only printing in black and white. It's almost worse that the hardware is so good, and is being crippled by a poorly customized OS (like tantalus, nearby but unreachable relief is far worse than no possibility of relief at all).
It's going to take a really big step to mollify those that have been burned by this generation of samsung's smartphones. Samsung, if your listening. You've pissed off many of your most important phone buyers. These are the people who less tech-savvy people ask for advice on phones, and for every 1 XDA member offended by your apparent lack of desire to properly support your equipment, you probably lose at least 10 referral sales to companies like HTC.
My recommendation, at least open the source code for the devs to look at, and if you're having software quality problems (and that's the reason you can't get froyo out the door), invite some of the best devs to take a look at the proprietary modules that you're having problems with. Work with the community and you may maintain some degree of support for your next generation of phones. But keep trying to astroturf them, or worse yet, pull a Behold 2 on them, and watch out as your current market lead could easily change next generation.
As a community we should make noise in the social network ... Verizon is silent and we do not have we heard .. dates, status, when buying the phone last year told me that in December we would Lillipop .. good and is April Lollipop and does not have time ... we need to campaign all on Twitter recommending not buy the phone .. so no one falls more in our uncertain world, as the Cell has no future .. the DroidTurbo is a like Zombie , no future.
So I hear recommendations .. put something like
No Buy #DroidTurbo @verizon and @motorola no promises with updates, is a SmartPhone with no future
propositions hear
This sounds like a good idea, but since we don't have the biggest community, I'm not sure if Verizon would even care or listen.

I support you fully.
Ok, so Lollypop is MIA. Big freekin deal. I upgraded my Nexus 10 to Lollypop. Now, every time I rent a movie on play, I restarts my Nexus and won't play the movie. So I end up watching it on my Turbo or my G3. Lollypop needs 2 stay in the oven until its FULLY baked. Besides, I bet we'd loose our Mofo root if we took the OTA.

That isn't necessarily an issue with lollipop. I have same device with lollipop and zero issues.
Oh trust me. Ive been spouting messages to Verizon and Motorola about my turbo not having lollipop on Twitter. Sometimes, I do get a response, but you know they are always auto replies. It's B.S. how quiet they are about this. I know alot of peoples paitents are wearing thin. They just need to give us a honest, straight up response to this issue.
Well, they don't 'need' to tell us anything... Technically. Hell they aren't legally obligated to upgrade it at all, let alone give a status.
But it would be nice.

I disagree with you, Officially announced it would upgrade in December ... I went by so instead of a moto x or Sony Z3, it is their obligation to comply, I feel cheated
They honestly do not care, if they did they would have said something by now. You're just wasting your time.

Yeah, well a lot of kickstarter projects say they will ship product and don't too. Doesn't mean there is legal recourse.
I do agree it would be nice if they communicated with us more. I just don't agree they are obligated to.
let people tweet and RT .. .. at least get Verizon officially talk

Just threw in 2 tweets. Come on guys. If everyone spent 2 mins posting a tweet they would really look like sh*t. Just 2 mins!

Where was it officially announced? I don't recall seeing anything but unsubstantiated rumors.
Honestly the customers are nobodies. the salesmen are there to talk up a product in order for you to spend money/sign a contract. after that verizon/motorola does not care. motorola mobility is a failing company which is why motorola and google sold it. soon lenovo will know the failure of motorola. We are but a small spec in the verizon market. even I read an article the fact they lost 150k people to t-mobile and sprint, they did not care 2 bits about. you really think a small population of a minute group is going to do anything when they dont care about the loss of 150k people? just sit back, relax and either wait for the update which may or may not come or go buy a new phone.
I gave up and went to the nexus 6. I remember from a soak test that verizon only reported 20k sales at that point in time for the turbo. So we have probably been long forgotten.

If thats the case then let us go, lets us have what we want. BL unlock keys.
I finally got an answer from Verizon support on Twitter. A straight foward one at that. They told me that "We would love to give you a timeline however, we currently dont have one."

I still have my turbo sitting on my desk. Waiting for lollipop to fire it back up and switch. I love the phone. Just discouraged after the quick updates to moto xs and the lack of support for their most recent flagship. did my part. hashtagged the turbo and including moto and verizon in it.
Bad idea
Bad idea. Have some patience. The update had some bugs, so maybe they are trying to reduce the bugs. Stop this stupid "campaign" and let them work. They could have said no to making it, because it doesn't take 3 seconds to update it. Try waiting until June. It might be out before then

Wait until June.... be patient..... NO. We bought a flagship device to avoid fragmentation with regards to the android operating system. It is absolutely ridiculous that Samsung can get Lollipop on their 2013 Flagship the S4 before we can get it on a new device. Moto has had months since Google pushed it to AOSP to make it work and they haven't. Do you think that every other manufacturer didn't have bugs? No they did but they probably stuck to a timeline to satisfy its customers. Honestly if Motorola and Verizon would give us our bootloader unlock keys we would have a working bug free build of Lollipop within 12 hours. I will never buy a non nexus motorola device ever again. So there. RANT OVER.
