Calendar Sync = Bad Voo Doo

I can not say when this problem started, what is happening say I have a appointment in my Outlook 2003 Calendar for 2pm today, once it is Synced with (Active-sync 4.5), The event will slow up on my MDA calendar for Tomorrow at some other time seems to be something like 14 hours later!
Yes all my clocks are set correctly my timezones are all set correctly as well. If I enable the Set Device time feature in active sync it sets the time to tomorrow sometime as well.
I have turned that off and have set the MDA to get the time from the GSM Network and that is fine.
I switched over from using a hp-6315 and did not have that problem.
My rom version is whatever this file name represents
RUU_TMobile_US_226102_22610105_022511_WWE_Ship.exe I am using it on the Rogers Network in Canada. Works well otherwise.
Any Ideas would be welcome.
I know you have touched on it but just to be sure can you confirm that you have checked the timezones on both your Wizard AND your PC.
Yes sir at time zones set to EST GMT -5 / or -4 dst
Now the real curious thing is last I looked my phone, were it says upcoming appointments and it had me having a meeting on Wed Feb 28 at 12:45am, it was in my outlook at Tuesday Feb 27th at 10:30am.
This morning I looked at the phone and it was now showing the correct meeting time! WTF! Now I look at the phone and it showing Feb 28 12:45 again.
and I have not synced with my Desktop since yesterday afternoon.
Crazy!
Do you perhaps have the visiting option checked in the time settings? Maybe a reset of the phone will clear up this time sync issue.
Nope visting option not enabled, and the time remains correct on the unit, its the caladar items seem to move around!
However Syncing Time from the sets the time and day wrong.
Ok Given the last comment from az99, I decided for a sanity check to check the clock settings for visiting time.
It was definitely set to HOME and the HOME timezone was correct GMT -5 the visiting Time zone was set to Paris GMT +1, I then selected visiting time zone and changed it to GMT -5.
Then changed back to the HOME timezone.....
All the calendar entries are correct again. This is odd because even if it was using the Paris timezone it would have been off by 6 hours.
See how long it will last.

**** Edit**** i thought the fix worked, but my later appts were still off by an hour. hard reset and trying again.
Its possessed, yesterday I looked at my phone and it said my 10:30 appointment was 9:30am at least we are within the same day now.
Forgot my phone at home so I can not tell you what it says this morning...
same problem here with WM6 (Xplore 1.1) and AS 4.5b. Calendar items 1 hour back.
other WM6 rom was ok...
solution?
OK, I think the problem is with the GSM updating the time from the phone system. DE-select that. That is buggy, and depends on the tower you are near. If you are near a bunch it gets confusing for the phone.
After that, go to options in Activesync in your wizard and delete the connection to your PC. (Not while you are connected.) Delete your Wizard calendar. If you have memmaid delete your notifications. Soft - reset. On your PC, delete the mobile device. Then double check your PC and Wizard time and region settings. Then re connect and set up a new partnership. After it synch's, you should be all set.
Good luck,
'problem is with the GSM updating the time from the phone system. DE-select that. '
how do i change this? sounds like connection settings...
TIA
Sorry, I'm currently running a rom where that was left out. I thought it was in the phone settings but I'm not sure. Click through all the "settings" files and menus to see if you see it. Otherwise, maybe someone else has it handy?
Regards,
figured it out, for me i had 05 GMT bogota but whe ni went to -5 GNT Easter US it worked.
amazing!
still all -5 GMT so not sure if it's a WM6 bug?

DST applied patch, but all alarms are an hour early (fix?)

I applied the cingular 8525 patch for DST.
Yes my time adjusted fine, but now all my alarms go off an hour early.
So my 11am alarm goes off at 10am even though it says 11am.
This happens in both Schema and informant.
I don't understand why, but if someone could help me solve this it would be great.
Because the update just tells the clock to subtract 1 hour less from UTC
three weeks earlier. (oops make that '1 hour more')
Most calendar programs record their entires for appointments etc. in raw UTC (ie. without the relative time zone adjustment). Remember DST is only time manipulation there isn't really a "lost hour".
Example: you created an appointment for 9 AM on 3/14/07 last week and you're in the central time zone UTC -6. The program then saves the appointment with a starting time of 15:00 UTC not knowing it has to add an additional hour until after April 1 to it's appointments because local time is now UTC -7. So 15:00 UTC rolls around and the alarm goes off. Only now the local time is now UTC -7 15-7= 8 AM
A lot of calendar programs have this problem until the begining of old DST. It could be worse- I have several clients that exclusively use the "all day function" (0:00 UTC -6 to 24:00 UTC -6) and now for three weeks everything lasts two days.
See if the vendor has an update. MS had one for outlook that was supposed to adjust dates in the WM calendar but I saw one report this morning that improperly patched or configured exchange servers are screwing it up (complicating matters: the time zone is not a gpo and if improperly set (to 'central america' rather than 'central time') the change doesn't happen).
I applied the fix that microsoft released before the DST came about to my users and all worked and tested all ok.
I have niced that a few of the users that have got lots of calendar entries i had to sync the device with the server after removing all data via active sync.
D
So worst case since I have applied the fix,
New apointments I add and apointments next year should not have problems.
Just my old ones?
Similar happened to me but everything went an hour later and the time change never happened
MS Technet blog has some mealy mouthed explainations
The upshot: DST patching was not our finest hour and we're still endeavoring the issue.
What kills me is M$ had almost TWO FULL YEARS to fix this and it's clear they didn't build a comprehensive test environment. Nor did they bother to build a proper updating tool or mechanism. Even religiously applied updates didn't work.
Not to mention that unless MS provides a WM5 AKU with the change built in there are a lot of people running around with phones that will revert to old DST rules after every hard reset.

Daylight Savings Time

Hi
I was wonderig if anyone has had problems with the Daylight savings time? I've tried downloading and installing the WMDST2008-1.cab file from microsoft and this hasnt seemed to help.
Everytime I sync the phone with my computer the time goes back an hour to what it was prior to dst. The calender seems to be out of sync too. I'm aware you can set it to not sync the date and time, but this isnt the best solution.
Im usign Duttys 2.4 xtreme ROM...Could this effect it too?
Cheers for any help.
P.S im in the UK if that makes a difference.
Interested in this as have exactly the same issue at the moment. Changed it last night, came into work today and it changes back an hour.
Any help will be gratefully received
I have found that the problem arises, when you select your home city through Manila, by clicking on the clock and then choosing a city.
Manila assigns the wrong timezone. I live in the GMT+1: Berlin, Rome timezone, but when I select my home city (Aachen) and then go to Settings -> System -> Clock&Alarms I can see, that Manila has chosen West Central Africa as my timezone, which is also GMT+1 and just below my timezone in the list, but obviously doesn't have daylight savings time.
Look for yourself, if you have that problem, you can correct it by selecting the correct timezone throught Settings -> System -> Clock&Alarms.
Manila will still have your previously selected city as your home city.

Hi I have the same problem and it has just when I sync it through Active Sync on to my PC.
It goes back by one hour.
And setting the time without Manilla doesn't work.

Ah, this seems to have worked. I went into the settings you mentioned and adjusted the clock. The timezone was correct, but i reselected it anyway and have just synced my phone and my time hasn't readjutsed...success...for now! Thanks.
Althought my calender is still out of sync. In outlook I have an event booked all day on the 29th April, however on my phone it's showing up as all day on the 28th!! Any ideas?
Had the same problem today, readujsted settings plus manila, then sync the phone and time was again set 1 hour back.
I finally did it the other way round (manila then settings) and it seems to hold after a few syncs
Same problem here in Australia. As soon as you touch anything in Manila time & date or alarms, you have to go back into settings and reset the Timezone.
It has gotten better - it used to change Sydney to Guam now it only changes Sydney to Brisbane...
You might want to check this setting also.
I found this would knock my Cal out by 1 hour :
Start > Settings > Phone > Time Zones Tab : Untick "Automatic change time zone and clock"
had it too
I had the same thing - or similar, the clock said the correct time but all the appointments shifted an hour and the alarm was going off an hour later - really bizarre, i un-ticked the box as recommended by the last person (settings, phone, automatic update). Hmm spoke to soon - thought it had worked but same problem as before! Year on year the same story, how frustrating!

Dupe thread, please post comments on the fix in the other thread.

timezones, appointments and phone trying to be useful...

hey,
not sure how others are dealing with this and htc are little help.
every phone i've had so far changes appointment times with timezones. so in the past i've never bothered and just put in appointments in local time and changed only the clock when travelling.
The hd2, however, insists on changing time zones for me from the mobile network, and all my appointments shift as well.
i've tried setting timezones in my pim, but this is not supported by the hd2. so how do i stop shifting timezones, or shifting appointment times? is there a nicely integrated calendar app for the hd2 that would use timezones and syncs with intellisync? any suggestions welcome.
cheers
ps:i could set my appointments in with the timezone offset, but i like planning trips in local time, i remember times better that way...
I have not faced your problem - I am not sure that I understood however. I have my HD2 syncing with Outlook via Exchange. I set up my appointments mainly in desktop Outlook in the correct time zone and they get nicely synced in my HTC when I change countries. E.g. suppose I am in GMT +2. Say I have an appoinment at 10:00 (at GMT +1). I set it as such in outlook.( naturaly when I am still in GMT+2 my appointment shows as 09:00) When I visit the country with GMT+1, the phone changes the time zone and my appointment shows nicely at 10:00.
not using outlook
we use Groupwise in my work, and if you set your appointment for 10.00 GMT +1 and are in GMT +2 it still shows at 10.00, and as HTC doesn't support timezones it syncs it as 10.00.
i could do what you describe manually, no problems, but as I said, if I'm planning a trip (in this case I'm sitting in GMT +2) and the calendar shows 9.00, my brain thinks 9, slow as it is, when I get to GMT +1. I like to see the local times in front of me, so i would like the phone to ignore timezone shifts in appointments as well. I don't like all this automatic 'help'.
so your outlook setup would confuse the hell out of me, but that might just be me
will have to go that way though, relearn my habits...

Time sync after the Rom Flash

- what a file is for the time sync after the flash.
- in my rom is the time not real after the flash. The timozone in the settings is okay. when i make a other GMT Timezone than go the time to this timezone. when i make to automatic the time go to my Timezone and the time is not real.
when i make timzone and other timezone and other timetone and at last my timezone, than is all okay.
Pixelfreak
sorry for my bad englisch
