Hi All,
I have a VPA Compact II (Cingular 8125) and am synchonizing this with the Exchange Server of my company.
My company have set a policy that the device is locked after 15 minutes.
My problem here is that I am using a navigation software and during my ride the device igets locked every 15 minutes. Very annoying.
Anybody knows a solution for this?
Is there a way to keep alive the device?
Thanks
Ooops.
SOrry found the solution already.

Sorry again
Must.....get......feedback.....
rogierh,
Let me know how it works. I've received zero feedback on this. I'm curious if people are using it, but just not posting feedback or if its too damn complicated and I need to refine my directions.
Justin
Hi,
I just installed and configured it as you discribed.
Unfortunately my device still gets locked up after 15 minutes (from the policy).
Till the 15 minutes are over the device is kept alive. Normally the backlight would die after 2 minutes, it now stays switched on.
Any idea?
I used the short methode of step 3.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Couple of questions first....
1) What gps software are you using?
2) When you open SKScheMa, does it say "WATCH ON" in the lower right corner?
Justin
Using TomTom.
Yes its ON
I think its a wizard or WM5 problem as it happens with me when listening to MP3s too
Sucks having a 15min lock policy, as i just set a 1hr timeout for mine and its enough to stp it irritating you much.
Is there anyway you can just "Forget" the policy or are you unable to.
Try these files...
Delete the old sksc and sksw file and try these files.
If they work, I'll post them to the original thread (which you posted in your second post). Place these files as described in steps 2 & 3. Sorry for the headache.
Let me know if this works.
Justin
Hmmm sorry to say, still the same.
It keeps the device alive till the 15 minutes policy comes in.
Might this be some other kind of trigger?
Some new files....
rogierh,
Sorry for the headaches. What I'd like to try next is have you try a new set of files. The ones you tried yesterday was supposed to prevent the device from locking by simulating the pressing of the "home" key. I'm wondering if this key doesn't work on your Wizard (I'm using a Universal). These new files will now simulate the pressing of the "enter" button. (Just so you know, when I tested this program on my JasJar/Universal, I did find that using certain "simulated" keys would not work. So maybe the "home" key doesn't work on your Wizard.).
Now this will not be the end solution. When you press the enter key when TomTom is running, it will bring up the main menu. When you press the enter button a second time, it returns you to the navigation screen. I want to test to see if SKScheMa is running properly. If it is, when you launch TomTom and don't touch anything, you should be able to see the screen cycle between the main menu and the navigation screen every 58 seconds.
Let me know if you see this behavior.
Thanks
Justin
Hi,
First of all thanks a lot that you are helping out here.
It doesn't seem to work. The screen does NOT change to the menu and back.
One comment, because I have a German device (unfortunately) , the program is in German as well. But that should not be a problem with the script I think.
You mention in your guide do click to ok button on the right top side. This closes the program and I do not find it running when looking under the started programs in settings. Is this correct?
I also tried not clicking ok, but this does not change anything.
Just trying to think with you. Is the ENTER key the same code as on your device?
BR Rogier
German.....
Thanks for the info on German. My guess is that the application name may be different (i.e. it's not TomTom Navigator but rather a German title). There's a relatively easy way to check.
First open TomTom.
Next, press the 'contacts' button.
From there, you should see the Windows Start Menu. Go to Windows Start -> Settings -> System -> Memory -> Running Programs.
There should be a list of the applications running. Do you see "TomTom Navigator" or something else?
Thanks
Justin
P.S. I think the code will work on non-english versions, but only the developer can really answer that.
The Name of TomTom Navigator is the same.
Also the SKSchema Program is in German of course :-(
Is there an other option in SKSchema I can test to see if this is working at all?
(I am waiting on a new english ROM from our IT department.)
You can experiment and create some "watch" functions/programs. I recommend that you use the program to create some test cases. Here's a link to their instructions on how to create watch programs (and scripts too):
http://s-k-tools.com/skschema/skschema.0409.htm
For example, when I learned how this program work, I created "test cases" in the watch section of the program. Some things you may want to try:
When a program is running (make it easy by using Contacts, Calendar, etc), play a sound.
Once you've created this "watch" script, SKScheMa will "watch" for the program to be launched and when I sees that it has been launched, it will continuously play a sound while the program is running.
Once you've sucessfully completed the sound test, you just start customizing it to your needs. For example, the next test may be to simulate pressing a key when the application is running. The simulation of pressing a key should prevent your device from locking. Using this test, you can see if your device still "locks" after 15 minutes.
Justin
P.S. I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty. If I can help you further (not that I've really helped you thus far), please let me know.
He no worries, I will have a look this weekend.
Many thanks.
Rogier
Unlocked device and updated to english ROM (finally).
Will test again.
simulating the pressing of the "enter" button now seems to work. COOL.
Will test with the other file now.
:-D
Ooooooo YES!!!!!
I am a Happy Man. This works now.
Seems the German Version of the Utility does not liked the script or so.
On an Englisch ROM all seems to work fine.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Rogier
Congrats....
I'm glad it worked out. I can't help but wonder....why does the language make a difference. I'm not a programmer so I guess I'll never know.
BTW, you can use SKTools to keep other programs open too. Let's say you want to keep your device alive while surfing the internet. You can develop a similar script for Pocket Internet Explorer/Opera/NetFront. I use it to keep alive TomTom and iGuidance. Take care. Justin
Thanks a lot for the tip.
Hello all,
I have searched & searched. I've read the Wiki and found the info there, more than once. I'm just not "techie" and need more details. I absolutely hate the loud startup sound on the AT&T 8525 that came on my new phone.
I downloaded the Resco trial and I've spent hours trying to find the correct file to "fix" but I just haven't been able to find it. I also like the animation, just not the sound. It looks like just adjust the WAV file, when I finally find it on my phone?
Sorry, but any additional help (Step by Step if possible) you can give me would be greatly appreciated. This sound is driving me & my husband nuts.
After much searching and many hours, the Voice Command works great! Very pleased with that, this forum is awesome.
MsGadget
I assume you are referring to the following?:
Disable/change the startup animation or sound
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimationEnabled - change from 1 to 0 to turn everything off and permanently fix the volume issue.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimationVolumn - change from 16 to 200 (higher number = lower volume) to lower the volume to a whisper but keep the animation.
You can also customize the animated boot up by deleting or changing 2 keys. (Doing this does not fix the volume issue)
Delete the WAVFile Key to remove the sound only.
Delete the GIFFile Key to remove the animation only.
Put your own .GIF file or .WAV file on the phone and rewrite the 2 keys (WAVFile GIFFile) to the new file location. i.e. \My Documents\Files\CustomAnimation.gif
It will help us to know where you are getting stuck.
Can you find thw key HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation using Resco?
Mike
That's what I found, but I can't find the file to change in Resco. I tried to do a search in Resco for the file, but no luck. What does it mean by doesn't fix volume issues?
Sorry, but I've been reading & searching for 3 days now. I'm not the least bit techie, but I love my gadgets!
Thank you!

Ok. One step at a time perhaps.
First you are not using Resco to look for a file but an entry(s) in the Registry. So the first thing to do is to go into Resco and look through the menus for something like "Edit the Registry". I use PHM registry Editor so I'm not sure what menu it's in but it will be in the Resco menus somewhere.
Mike
Download total commander, its free and I know for sure it works.
HKLM is the area of the registry, SOFTWARE is the folder, HTC the next folder and then look for StartupAnimationEnabled
Change the value from 1 to 0, then put the device into sleep for 15 seconds (hit the power button, but dont turn it off) and then do a soft reset.
When it reboots, it will be the way you want it.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimationEnabled - change from 1 to 0 to turn everything off and permanently fix the volume issue
Thank you both very much. I'll work on it again when I get home. Wish me luck. Thank goodness for Sprite backup.
Mona
mikechannon & teknics,
I'm so happy, I got it to work. Your step-by-step instructions were very clear. I greatly appreciate both of you taking the time to share the basics of how & where to start.
Most others in this type of forum probably know where to begin, but I really needed the very basics. The knowledge you provided is very valuable!
Thanks again,
MsGadget
Pleased you got it to work - future registry changes will be a piece of cake
Mike
Agreed!
Not a problem, that's why we are all here right?
Well the topic says it all.
I want to add a sound to the opening and/or closing of the keyboard.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Any hacks for this? I suppose that the opening of the keyboard calls some kind of an event (since sliding it open changes the screen orientation) So can this same event call be used to assign a sound as well?
I also want to kno this and was going to ask right before I came 2 see this link...so please answer!
There are some really talented people here. I would have thought someone would have done this by now. But I assume, from lack of info, that this hasn't been considered before?
Would someone, who has the skill set to do this, consider looking into it and seeing if it is possible?
Thanks a million!!
Have a good one
Try this thread.....
Cheers!
That thread refers to the Herald, or Tmobile Wing. I found this thread and thats all I've been able to find for the Wizard or Tmobile MDA.
There may be a registry key that needs to be modified/added after installing the HTC Sliding Sounds application to make it 'active' for the Wizard.
Any ideas?
Im trying to figure it out too.. I dunno how to get it to initiate...
Need someone with the Herald (T-Mobile Wing) to help
Under HKEY\LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SlidingSound there are 2 keys 'ActiveSlidingSound' and 'SlidingSoundEffect', these are for setting which sound of the 3 available to use, I'm assuming.
Anyone out there know someone with a Herald or T-Mobile Wing that is willing to share what they have in this folder in their registry?? Maybe there's and EnableSound key or something to that effect that us Wizard users can add and we'll have a happy day!

I just checked mine and under SlidingSound, there are 3 folders... 0, 1, and 2. Each folder has 3 keys... Default, in, and out. "Default" is the name for the sounds (ex: Wind Chimes, Piano, and Xylophone), "in" is the location of the file used for when the keyboard slides in (ex: Slider0_in.wav), and the same applies to "out" for when the keyboard slides out (ex: Slider0_out.wav).
Also inside the SlidingSound folder are 2 more keys... ActiveSlidingSound and SlidingSoundEffect. ActiveSlidingSound refers to which sliding sound you want to use... so in this case it would be one of the 3 folders mentioned above (0,1, or 2). SlidingSoundEffect refers to whether or not you want the sliding sound on. (0 = off, 1 = on).
Hope this helps!
I installed the software that was made by JUVS....it does not work on my MDA.
Any other ideas? I had tried searching before I made this thread initially, and i had not seen the 2 that are discussed here. I apologize for having made a 3rd one.
Back on topic, I certainly hope this can be made to work. Any other ideas?
Thanks for all the info so far.
Later
this is a really cool idea, i would also like to know how to do it...

Thanks so much! This does help!
Unfortunately, I have the same keys on my MDA after installing the application for the SlidingSounds and it doesn't make sounds when I open the keyboard physically. I'm suspecting that the MDA is missing something, possibly a hardware switch (don't think so, though, cause it has to detect when the keyboard opens for landscape mode).
My guess is that this will not work on the MDA
Umfortunately I'm not a programmer, but I was thinking that the easiest way to get somethig like this to work would be to link the sound to play with the screen rotation instead of trying to get it to work when the keyboard is slid out which obviously isn't working anyway. It would play the sound if you rotated your screen manually, but I can't see why that would be a big deal. Maybe someone with a little programming knowledge could get this to work though.
I wanna keep this thread alive. SlidingSounds is something i wanna see work for wizards. It'll be cool if someone could craft a workaround or a new prog altogether.
Opening the keyboard is an event, shouldn't be hard to craft something to have it make a sound.
Any updates on this? I downloaded the app and it hasn't done anything, especially when messing with the registry. Thanks.
I've been working on tis as well but it seems that there is no way to adjust the registry to get it to work. I believe a app is gonna have to get the wizard to have this feature.
This would be so cool.. Alot of people have 'flip' style phones, and when they open them, they have some funny sounds. Would be great to have on the Wizard!
Anybody figured this out yet? I'm really sure it can be done.
im all about hacks for the wizard, but...
im assuming that you saw a wing and are trying to duplicate it...
WHY would you want it to do this?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!
same question for the menu pop sound?
those are the most annoying things i've seen on phone... well except for the default startup and shutdown sounds on all retail phones... when you turn off your phone, isnt because you're somewhere that you should be sure it wont be ringing/vibrating?
but on the other hand i still can't understand why people like to have the keys beep on their regular cell phones when they are txting...
sorry for the rant... i just don't get it

Maybe because we love the bells and whistles a gadget can make, it's all about your custom love that you want to have, not just everyone's universal preference. Some of us love to customize our phones to suit our personality, not just YOURS. Maybe these sounds grab attention of chicks, maybe this wallpaper makes us look cool in the sight of geeks. It's all personal prereference.
That's why I want keyboard Sliding Sounds to work. It's just one more thing that will grab the attention of people to see that, yes, I don't need a new phone every six months or so. I can make a new one using an old one by utilizing hacks.
I was very intrigued by the development of 'Seismo' application...which can detect vibration.
This is just an IDEA for a fun application.....and maybe...just maybe useful....
I'm sure u can isolate and identify the harder vibrations. With that said, lets say i left my diamond somewhere on my table...and
1) i TAP on the table twice....and my Diamond makes a noise in response...letting me know its location.
Or maybe i have it in my pocket...
2)Tap once while the music is playing to change the track....or to silent a call...or to ignore it...
and i'm sure this could be used for alot of other things.....let me know what u guys think..
Its a simple suggestions...if this is worth any of ur time....i would love to see an application like this.
Peace...
nice idea!
hope someone will create this!
That's a nice idea There could be a problem with detecting the taps, but I'm really looking forward to such an app.
Real Reason??

I am ready to develop the app. I have already downloaded the code for siesmo and changing it. But I am still trying to think of a really useful reason this app will accomplish.
So if people here can contribute and come up with some real reason.. it would be nice...
i mean I will still work on this irrespective ... and then may be share some code ...
ciao...
Maybe switching the screen on/off? I mean it would be good to get fast some info on missed calls/unread sms by taping the table
- answer a incoming call (and automatical switch the speakerphone on?!)
- next/prev track in s2p/music-tab/wmp
- chance profile (vibrate/mute/..)
- dismiss reminders/sms/calls and stuff
- find the phone on the desk
But probably this app should work only if Diamond is lying on a table - Gsensor in horizontal position I don't want my phone to do strange things when I walk with it in my pocket

true!
That could also be preventable (most of the time) by instead of using one tap (fairly common occurance by chance) to three/or more taps.
The best use would really be to mute (music/mic/ring), while in pocket. That would really be useful. Just tap...tap...tap... and its mute.
Won't this kill your batteries? I mean you would have to poll the g sensor all the time in the background for it to work.
Also there is already G Trigger which could be configured to do something similar.

I agree +1
Honestly i am still trying to find a good reason for this idea....
I am sure that if the code was written and could be made to do stuff with say a mort script, that people would find all kinds of unimaginable things that they could do with it!
I'm loving the feedbacks....
...like the issue with the battery.....very true..
but Seismo App .. was a battery drainer...but it was fun..
.We'll make it only poll if you run the application....it can still be useful...
say for instance ur studying and you were listening to songs on ur phone hooked up to the speakers...and you want to quickly change tracks...or ignore the call so u can keep listening....
or you studying and you wanna make notes of what ur reading...u tap once/twice..it starts recording..."note to self....blah blah blah " Tap again to end...
or Tap twice to run Microsoft Voice Command...
If it's not going to take too much effort..i really think its worth a try....i wish i could develop...i know i can do graphics...so i'll be helpful in that field...
peace,
Solidkundi
You know a new game from the wii - they had an idea with the tabs : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYiYzrSuyFs
Perhaps something like that - we hav the controler and the monitor in one device
So many uses!
Just imagine, one tap for pause, 2 for next song, 3 for prev. song.
Double tap the table and it lights up and shows notifications.
Would be wicked!
Or...
If you've got your phone in your pocket while playing music, and you want next song you tap one time against your pocket (with the phone in it).
Your phone recognizes it and plays the next song. If you tap twice, it plays the previous song. Of course you can make more combinations!
The reason why this could be very handy, is because it's very annoying to pull your phone out of your pocket if you want it to play another song.
A bit the same idea but then in your pocket...
damn right.....especially when the phone has silicone casing...
even when i get a call..and its in my pocket..it'll take me soo long sometimes i miss a call...no joke.. if i can answer it just by tapping on it...that'll be nice...so i can tell them to hold on for 5 minz. then struggle to take out the phone in my pocket.
Here's a video of samsung s8000 Jet...it can regonize taps on the phone.........maybe they're using the same method we're trying to achieve

What I'm looking for is to be able to control my music while the phone is locked. I am running the last and greatest version of enrgy's rom series. The perticular build that i am using doesnt let me control the volume while the screen is off. But does let me control it when the phone is locked... wierd... but i am loving the rom (if you havnt i recomend you give it a whirl) I have search but the only thing i found is to use s2p with s2u2. I much rather use the windows lock screen, enrgy add a feture to let you use 1 out of 3 lock screens hd mini which im curently using 6.5 and the default lock screen. For some reason i cant not stand s2p (personal preff no offense to the developer) thanks to any1 in advance that can help me with this. I hope this was posted in the right section... if not can some point me to the right place.
you have no idea how bad i want that, it would be so useful! when im at the gym i constantly have to unlock my phone and enter my password because my screen locks to change my music. a look screen with music control would be unreal
This would be great to have. If I remember correctly, before I flashed my rom, my stock Tilt 2 rom used to be able to do it. Hold down the volume buttons to change songs and press down buttons for volume.

The whole point of a lock screen is to lock down the device. You can change the device to NOT lock the buttons when the device is locked, and there are NRG settings that will affect the device when locked. But basically I think you would have to map some of the hardware keys - I believe that ATT has a PTT button, for example - to do a particular function.
Well hopefully this will help.
I picked up a Motorola Bluetooth Headphones in January and using the stock rom I was able to lock the phone and use the headphone controls to change the music and volume with no problems. I can also pause the songs with the controls and come back to the music anytime.
I just moved to the EnergyRom and it still works. I'm only having one issue all the sound comes through the headphones now.
I will say there is one other issue, minor for me, every once and a while the sound will change to a mono'ish, tinny sound, then come right back to stereo. When you hear people complaining about the Bluetooth Headphones this is what they are talking about. It really has never bugged me that much, but it might bother you.
I picked up this model - Motorola HT820. Just in case you are wondering.

That is EXACTLY where I've been searching for a long time. Just like on my SE K800i. Volume button hold = skip songs and normal press volume!
Could this still be found/edited in the registry manually maybe?

I don't quite remember if I installed a cab for it or if the stock rom allowed it, I wish i could remember because I miss it a lot. The only thing I can do now, when the phone is locked, is control the volume. At least it's something...
in the new version of CHT this is comming
Hmm, CHT is not as stable on AthineOS as I hoped. That ROM is nearly clean and CHT brings some bugs with it, so I'd like to find the fix separated from CHT...
Does anyone of you also have a problem with the player when you turn of the screen? (press power button) On my TP2 it doesn't play the next song, but starts to create a cracking noise, almost silent. Also when I turn off the screen the music goes silent halfway the first song I play. I have to skip a bit back/forward and it'll keep playing like it should after that. I know there's some fix like: "Keep music playing while screen is off", but that just won't fix it. But just locking my phone through the Start Menu and letting the screen go black works :S.
Dude, you should try S2U2, is a lock app that looks like the iPhone... But the better thing is that the developer, also make S2P a player that can be used while the lock (S2U2) is active...
I would give Tarkim's keyboard controller a try.

which rom do you have, windows build, manila version and so on. Because i don't have problems like that.
These are not problems with CHT, that's your rom so as said in the threads. I have tested around 20 roms and the most bring up problems. The only one that was running was the latest original dutch rom for me.
So do your tests once again please, with an original one before you say it is CHT. Because that is not the case.

I don't blame CHT or anything, I'm just very satisfied with AthineOS without it. It's like the cleanest ROM out there, with a not too plastic/shiny/glossy theme. I don't know exactly where CHT can't combine with AthineOS (code-wise), but after the installation some bugs appeared. And after reflashing without CHT everything was fine again. It were no SOD's, but glitches and switches.
And of course it's superb the fix will be integrated in CHT, but not everyone uses it and a seperate fix would be a better solution for them!
