I tried to root my HTC Magic, tagged by the SFR french operator.
The HBOOT was 1.33.0007 and the downgrade to 1.5 never work with a goldcard
So i tried with an SAPPIMG.zip that i choose by mistake, and it update my phone to a MyTouch phone with this Fastboot info :

Now I can't connect my phone to my google account because i can't use 3G.
So the phone is unusable, and don't know how to save it.
The phone is not rooted and i wish to back it to a French SFR official ROM at least.

But I can't make a goldcard, because i can't get the phone CID.
EDIT: Now i can go to the desktop of the phone and use it, I just add the SFR apn to use 3G and connect to my google account.
But I want to Flash my phone now, and I can create a GoldCard to, but I never work ( Main version older, however 2go microSD Kingston ), so this is my question :
Is there exist some HTC Magic wich are not Rootable ?
Is your link for 1.5 Vodaphone phone ?

The goldcard can trick your phone into flashing a ROM intended for another phone, but not an older version than what you have now. The only thing I can think of is using FlashRec to install a custom recovery (Amon_Ra's is awesome) and then flash another ROM, SPL, Radio or whatever you need from there.
Ok, but with this GoldCard, the one thing I have to do, is put the correct SAPPIMG.nbh and booting in Hboot mode ?
Because I tried 5 MicroSD ( 2 Kingston 2Go ) and no one work.
Is the GoldCard a Magic method ? Because everyone tell this is the ultimate solution, but i found a lot of people who never see it work.

It's not specific to the Magic, but, as I said, you won't be able to flash an older version than what you have now. Go to Settings > About Phone and if your Build number is larger than 1.91.163.1 the goldcard won't help. Use flashrec.

- I have not rooted my phone ( so can't do anything ? )
- I can't use GoldCard ( as you said, my build number is larger than 1.91.163.1 )
- I am in 1.6
so :
- I can't back to 1.5 ( because not rooted, and no use of Goldcard possible )
- I can't use FlashRec ( because i'm in 1.6 )
So how can I get out this **** ?

You don't need root to use flashrec. Just try it.
I try FlashRec and can Download the cm-recovery but during Backup I get the error :

Then I check the invisible stars " * " to unlock Flashing of the img, and same error.

So it seems that for the MT3G this SPL cannot be rooted. I was hoping to shake this up abit since no info has come up yet new for this and I know a couple of people who have this same SPL. I am willing to donate $20 to anyone who can find a way to root this. I know its not alot but its something.
Yes its on 1.6, tried various .nbh files and .zip files as listed in the forum with a gold card. Please dont flame, I just want to enjoy a rooted MT3G.
sorry, i'm not entirely familiar with this problem: what doesn't work - can you flash something like Engineering SPL1.33.2010 onto it? what happens when you try flashing a recovery via flashrec?

If you are on Android 1.6 - flash sappimg.nbh with Android 1.5 first. The one you need can be found in this forum. Search for the post with this title:
"sappimg.nbh for Vodafone PVT 32B Devices"

It's a Vodafone image with spl 1.33.0007 - so it's same as yours, and it will flash with no errors - no gold card needed.
Then use one click method as decribed in theunlockr.com or elsewhere.
Then you can flash "Engineering SPL 1.33.2005"
It worked very well with my HTC Magic from Vodafone Germany

I have the exact same hboot info on a replacement MT3G running factory 1.6 build DRC92.
From what I have read it is unrootable at this time. Others have said that we have to wait for a later build with a non-perfect SPL.
1.33.0007 is a perfect SPL, which normally isnt a problem, but combining that with the DRC92 build makes it troublesome.

I am sorry it did not work for you. I was surprised it worked for me, despite everyone saying that there is no rooting solution for spl 1.33.0007 with DRC92. Maybe I was just lucky.

So why was it so easy for me too flash Cyanogen and more?
Downgraded with right nbh (sappimg.nbh), then installed flashrec.apk ... With that app i get a modified recovery-image installed and then i could flash rom/spl with modified recovery

Kind of off topic, but I'm picking up a MT3G this weekend, and I didn't know there's such a thing as unrootable. Is this true? I thought they've all been figured out by now.
Supposedly there isnt such a thing as an unrootable MT3G but I sure am stuck.
I root'd my original MT3G but ended up with a replacement that I just cant get root on.
I think I am going to start a new thread. Apparently I overlooked that the thread was corrected to read 2007, not 0007.
In any case I get same errors, incorrect model id, main version older, etc.
People say they used sappimg.nbh to root the 1.33.0007 (SAPP30000) DRC92 but no one ever posts a link to the sappimg.nbh that they used. There are more than one out there, just in case people didnt notice that.
I have tried roughly 10 different .nbh's, made sure the md5 matched when applicable, tried each with and without the Goldcard, and even found the default recovery mode where I tried them again as .zip's (hold home + power until the exclamation then hit the home + power again).
I even did a hard reset and tried again. Nothing...
I do have the sdk, adb and fastboot working. Able to connect via usb, issue some commands, and list the devices. Try to push an install and get remote not allowed.
I am getting used to no-root but I dont like it. I want my old rootable phone back...

I used the instructions from the cyanogen wiki. they worked perfectly. i used the files from there as well.

You didn't say anything about turning that sd card into a goldcard. Did you do that? If you didnt, then there's your problem
Hi, I have the same problem (this is my first day with my new htc magic,and the first day in my life with android).
My magic is a a black, german, vodafone branded 32b version, with 1.6 android on it.
I haven't changed anything on it yet, everything is stock on it.
So, if I just try putting the sappimg.nbh on the sd card and trying to update, it says the same to me:
Model ID incorrect!
update fail!
So I tried to make a goldcard following these steps:

I thougt that this procedure will put android 1.5 on my magic,so how can it be that the 1.6 on the phone is "older",than the 1.5 I'm trying to put on it?

You don't need a goldcard with 1.33.0006. Probably an issue with the SAPPimg.nbh you're trying to use. Try this one:

Once downloaded, format your SD card through your phone under 'SD card and storage'. Once formatted, place the SAPPimg.nbh on your sd card. Power down your phone, hold volume down and power until you're in the HBoot screen. Press actions to perform update and wait until complete. You should be at 1.5 at this point.

I believe its actually a perfected SPL, however, the one click method still seems to work with this SPL. That's what I'm using, that's what my girlfriends phone has, and I've rooted about 5 other phones using that exact SPL. You shouldn't have an issue. Worst case scenario, you'll have to make a goldcard and should be able to obtain root that way.

Hmmm...strange. Sorry to hear. Goldcard method should get around it just fine. Just make sure you follow the goldcard instructions to the T.
Do you have the correct sappimg.nbh? I remember getting the same error and the problem was that I was using a file that was meant for dream instead of mytouch. the mytouch file should be around 98MB.
The SAPPIMG.nbh what i have is 96MB.. is for the mytouch...
i think to make a goldcard and try it whit that..

What do you aim to do?
If you wish to flash a new rom then you dont need to root first because with that SPL you can boot the phone into fastboot and use the usb fastboot facility to remote boot the recovery tool via the android sdk. Then use nandroid to backup your existing rom, wipe the phone and flash a new img. (i believe the new rom has to be signed as s=on)
I have done the exact same this week as my first attempt to flash my uk voda magic. I must have read every article I found and discovered that so many are misleading/confusing for the owners of a non-perfect spl 32b. I used this method to go straight from an unrooted magic running donut to the new cyanogen 5 running eclair using Amon's recovery tool 1.6.2g, my phone details are exactly the same as yours.
One thing I have been wondering is if I should flash the recovery program onto my phone? Is it safe to rely on usb fastbooting the program?

Yes I would flash the recovery image on to your phone, its perfectly safe and much more convenient than using fastboot every time.

also you might lose your 3G because rogers is a pain in the ass, your going to need to contact them and you will need them to network reset your phone.
they will probably ask you for your build number you need to tell them build 3.05.631.7 then after a while of them asking question say you found on the internet that your suppose to do a network reset but cant find the place to do it on your phone, (thats because you cant) and then they usually will do it for you, then reset your phone and your 3g will be back!
all that is only if you lose the 3g

I'm new to this and i don't know the difference between the two 'radios' but will this method i've linked to allow me to use the 'newer' radio that i won't have to sign any sort of waver for?

Not if you have a perfected SPL, which you do if you took rogers 911 update. and if you have a magic +. Anways its not hard to make one if you follow the steps.

I have the same phone, and the same issue. When apply the RUU , there is a ID Model Error...

I can't seem to get a proper goldcard created. I've followed the guide right up until the end:
Take out the memory card from the computer, then put it back in.
Try to open the memory card on the computer (Removable Disk), if it lets you, you are all set. If it asks/tells you to reformat the card, then try steps 13 - 19 again

I've tried it multiple times using an 8 GB Kingmax, also a 2 GB SanDisk... everytime I place it back in my PC to try to "open the memory card on the computer" it just tells me it needs to be formatted. What SHOULD it look like when it opens properly... will the goldcard contain visible files?
I haven't tried placing it in my phone as I really don't feel like it has worked properly yet...
I guess I'll try picking up a Kingston card this afternoon and see if I have any luck with that.

I tried root with SuperOneClick, z4root, universal adro root, to no avail even the temporary root .I want is to install a custom ROM like CyanogenMod (if not the 5.0 6.0.xo .8) I did a custom install ms-dos recovery but I do not recognize the command fastboot, I hope to guide me and clear my doubts ,thanks and Greetings from Nicaragua!

You have MT3G v1.2 (it is not magic 32a)
SuperOneClick works and on Android 2.2.1 too. This is best and safest method to root.
What is your problem with it?
p.s. Try to use old versions of SuperOneClick...

Yeah. It said, but the key thing is radio. Version 2.22.xx.xx is using by 32b magics.
In practice avoid install official ruu roms for 32a, cause they have radio 3.22.xx.xx or 6.35.xx.xx - so it will be "deadly".
Overall, there are 3 different models: 32a, 32b, mt3g v1.2

Are you sure about that? damage happens to me today, I found the official rom 1.6 with radio install it could not skip the activation of google and download the upgrade to 2.2.1 and everything always correct radio 2.22.28 32A, with respect to root SuperOneClick i tested with new version that came out yesterday and told me it was root but in making the test of the "su" command the phone does not showed me I needed root permissions. I'd say rare but i will try all versions of SuperOneClick to find one that I work, the good thing is that I can leave the factory, another thing I can do is leave it with 1.5 and look for a sim with data plan for the activavion and there whether to root for any software.

download the number 46 (android 1.5 or 1.6 not sure) and 47 (OTA upgrade to 2.2.1), the 46 rename it to "sappimg.zip" and 47 to "update.zip" if you want to be root copy the sappimg.zip file in the root of the sd and turn the phone by pressing the "volume - + Power" and follow the steps, if all goes well, the phone started but need data plan to activate the phone and login with your google account when they do SuperOneClick can use the z4root or universal root, then put a modified rom.
can also choose to put the file update.zip to the root of the sd and start the phone with home + power key and select "apply sdcard: update.zip" and the phone started with 2.2.1 froyo original, this version Unlike the earlier you start the phone without activation of google.

I think you should use GingerBreak 1.2 to root your device. I've tried, it works fine.
