I was hoping someone could either upload Android Contacts apk, or point me in the direction of where i might find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff
You can easily get one from Cyn's latest build, just extract the update.zip and look under app folder for contacts.apk.
I am not sure though if you need any additional files/apk.

I have the Darkys version of contacts.apk but when I try to install it, it simply says says "Application not installed".
I have tried copying the file to /system/app but there is already a contacts.apk (0bytes large) and it still wont install. I have also tried delting the current contacts.apk in /system/app but when the folder is refreshed, it appears again as the same 0bytes file.
Any idea how to get contacts.apk installed?

I installed a modded version of contacts.apk that allowed it to show the faces next to the contact's name. I did not like it that much so I removed it. Long story short I deleted the contacts.apk from /system/app and I copied the original contacts.apk back to /system/app. I rebooted and it still does not see Contacts.apk (Dialer/calling does not work) I also tried doing "install /sdcard/Contacts.apk /system/app/Contacts.apk" and it still did not recognize it.
What am I suppose to do? By the way I also have the original Contacts.apk in the root of my sdcard if that would help in you telling me the commands to run
Thanks in advance!!
I flashed nonsensikal 8.2 to my Eris and attempted to load my apps back. I have one called vRecorder, which contrary to popular opinion, worked great for recording phone calls. However, when I attempted to reload it I found it is unavailable and no longer supported. After trying several other call recorders, all failures, I'm left with trying to install my old one. The problem is, it isn't a .apk file, it's a .zip file. I originally downloaded this off the market, but since then the developer has packed up his bags and I can't get in touch with them. The .zip file located in the /data/app folder contains the following files:
AndroidManifest.xml
res (folder which contains four more folders all of which contain image and xml files)
resources.arsc
Since I cannot back this up using Astro and it's a zip format, is there any way to either convert it to .apk or flash it like a rom? I tried simply renaming it to apk and it acted like it installed, but gave me the message saying 'application not installed' when it completed. Any help would be appreciated.

Try resigning it. You can find out how to do that in the Eris roll up thread
rename it back to zip... pull it to your computer... then adb install -r appname.zip
Actually just rename it to a .apk

I already tried renaming it and installing it that way but after I ran it, it went through the install process and ended with the message "Application not installed." I will try what vinylfreak89 suggested by installing SDK on my pc and trying the adb install. I'm also trying to find how to resign in the rollup thread. I'll let you know how it goes.
Are you sure the program didn't download to the phone's DATA/APP folder as a ZIP as well as an APK in DATA/APP-PRIVATE?
I am having the same problem re-installing with a 'protected' Market program.
My app-private folder is empty (using Root Explorer). However, I found a call recorder that seems to be working for me. It's called rVoix and can be found in thread 806451 in this forum.
My Eris has been rooted and I'm using nonsensikal 8.2 black rom (I highly recommend this rom, it's awesome).
Did you nandroid before you flashed the new rom? If so, restore the old rom, use titanium to back up the app, nandroid back to the current rom, and restore the app.

Can anyone provide me with the fascinate weather clock APK for my samsung Captivate plz. thank u
i hope this is the file you're looking for, got it from my /system folder. let me know if that's not it (or if you know the filename that would be even easier)
I can't get the apk to load. Tried simply running the apk after copying to my phone (rooted) then tried Sideload Wonder Machine for good measure. It gives me a INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT failure message.
Bummer. Anyone else have success putting this on the Captivate?
You can't just install a system apk. You have to use root explorer to place it in your system folder.

Did a stupid thing by mistake
I accidentally deleted the ClockPackage.apk and odex...
Any idea how I can restore them... ?
I have downloaded the clockpackage.apk and put it there, gave it the correct permissions, but when I try to install it, I get "Application not installed".
Any idea what can I do?
Thanks
bumping this thread, this really bugs the hell of me...
No expert on this kind of thing...
Have you put the apk in system/app/
Have you given the correct permission and run the apk to reinstall? Rebooting after?
Have you got the odex file too? If it's there try renaming it to .old or something are try rerunning the apk.
What rom / version you on?
Just thinking out loud here. Sorry if not much help.

Hi All,
I have a rooted european TPT and I did something really dumb today: I nuked DownloadProvider.apk, thus killing any download functionality.
I downloaded the OTA update roms and had a look in there but they only have patches for the APK and not the file itself. I have been unable to find a full ROM image to use either, one linked from here was on Megaupload so that's gone.
May I beg someone to send me this APK please or point me to where I can find an image of the original ROM? Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi
I have the same problem. Deleted the downloadprovider and I guess also the downloadprovider.UI.
I'm on 2.3.4 root. Build nr: 4.0.2.A.0.42.
What to do with the other file in the zip apart from the .apk and how to set the permissions when moving the .apk to the system/app folder?
thanks

The other file is the odex just copy it in /system/app like the apk. The files need the permission 644. You can set them i.e. with Terminal Emualtor or with adb:
Code:
su
busybox mount -o rw,remount /system
chmod 644 /system/app/DownloadProvider.*
Unfortunately I did the same mistake like baz8080 .
Can you please help me with DownloadProvider for A310_02_0039_0089_WE?
I still have the apk and restored it to /system/app but the odex is missing and I'm still not able to download anything
Thanks in advance
Anybody?
I found DownloadProvider.apk + odex from 0076_WE
Is there any way to apply the patches from the update (0086_WE and 0089_WE) manually just on these two files?
Edit:
Solved it!

Things To Do
You must have root access to your phone
1. copy and paste "Download Provider ui" folder to /system/apps of your root folder.
2. copy and paste "Download Provider" folder to /system/priv-app of your root folder.
3. give permission like other apps in the folder and install both apk inside each folder with your root explorer with root installer package i used "fx file explorer pro".
4. Done restart your mobile.
5. you need to have google play store updated and google play services updated to latest version
