How do i post video's? (says invalid file type) sorry kind of a dummy
How would you describe the video quality? I did some in-house testing with mine and found it to be pretty weak still...no empirical testing though. I was mainly interested to see if we could get rid of the damn chop when in lower light settings (not that low though).
I thought the choppiness was much better. I set to H.264.
I have 2 short comparison videos, if I can figure out how to upload!
yeah I've heard the H.264 is pretty good now but the real deal is the 720p and it SUCKS still. I mean who wants to go around saying "You want to see my H.264 video recorded on my phone?" No....I want to say "hells yeah, 720p looks damn good now!".
Anyways, maybe we will get 720p on H.264 soon!
I give up. If you want to see the video's go to:
youtube. search 1970dca
Updated to rooted deodexed 2.2, its great, but I can't find the tapatalk pro app in market... can anyone else confirm this?

well i will have to say using wifi and gps on all day i am setting at 13 hours unplugged and still have half of the battery.
when i was on 1.32 i could not get more then about 4 hours of use from it. so i am happy with that. i hope that on tue. that it gets even better.
but as far as everything else no issue here.
My battery life has seemed to drop off drastically. Almost back to as bad as it was with 1.32. I can almost watch my battery drop. hopefully tuesday official release fixes this.
My battery life suck as well going to 2.2. The signal/ reception is terrible for me as well with 2.2. Definately hope the "Official release" is better or I'LL be rooting.
2.2
my battery life is still puke even on 3g but my signal strength has improved greatly. i use to never, and i mean never, be able to connect to 4g at my house. since flashing 2.2, not only does it connect, i also get 4-5 megs down
My battery life is a lot worst now. but I can now connect to and use 4G. Before, i can see the 4G sign for like 15 sec and then it would disappear.
I get great battery life now and 4g. I am loving the leaked 2.2. I am looking forward to the official Froyo so people will work on the root again. Not that I need it especially, but wouldn't mind having it just to delete the Sprint stuff.

Not a lot of people have, I think maybe one or two people claim they've gotten it from a pull. Wait for 8/3 to get the official release, it will be less likely to brick your phone or have bugs. I've been checking since Friday.
There's also a bug where any notifications or Google Navigation voice prompt kicks in, your music pauses and does not resume. Did not happen in 2.1
I love how people are crying about the 2.2 update that they downloaded and installed and was told by HTC and Sprint that it was not the official update. I want to know if anybody in this thread that is crying about the update got there update OTA. If they did, I will take what I said back, if not, quit your *****ing about a non-official update.

Same here, battery life has been noticably worse with the leaked update.

3 hours of continuous YouTube over WiFi. I wonder what you get with the stock app? I would assume about the same...
And that sounds damn good to me, bring on the flash!
I think this video shows the real reason apple doest want flash
http://vimeo.com/9596010
Having recently flashed the Modaco desire rom, and went back to cyanogen's latest, the flash player in that rom is NOT the 10.1 version that's GPU optimized.
Take a look at the framerates these guys are getting in this video! http://vimeo.com/9596010
Very very impressive! Wish the player would leak out or come out soon!!
As a professional animator who's made 95% of his income using flash over the years, all I can say is.. WOOOOOTTT!!!

yeah, i was saying they dont want it because of the free games and videos. No need to buy from itunes if you got flash games and hulu .
P.S. i get about 4hrs on my ipod touch watching video, the iphone cant be much better so whats the big deal. I think the battery life on the N1 will be fine with flash.
engadgets take
http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/24/flash-10-1-might-not-be-a-battery-hog-on-android/
They all seem to agree that battery consumption (take in mind on a unoptimized version) is in line with normal usage. As in, with WiFi and the screen on for a lot longer, no duh battery would get killed quicker. Its not that the flash plugin is killing battery, its just that the phone is just being used more. I can live with these unoptimized times knowing theyll only get better as they develop it more.
Apple just doesn't want to admit that they are ****ing wrong. HTML5 is not relelvent for the next few years. Consumers want whats available NOW. Not what is coming...something Apple fails to realize to the max.
Ah, sorry, lack of cadence in the written word causes some misunerstanding from time to time. I get ya!
And I totally agree, I would love flash 10.1 and getting 3 hours of continuous WiFi data based youtube play back! IMHO, that is pretty damn amazing!
Here is something about Flash vs HTML5
- Does HTML5 Really Beat Flash? The Surprising Results of New Tests
- Flash Player: CPU Hog or Hot Tamale? It Depends.
Returned to stock DI18 yesterday after experiencing glaring issues within less than one day of using EB13. That's a testament to how bad it is. EB13 is definitely not ready for prime time and must've been rushed out with glaringly known issues to appease the public with a 2.2 release. The stability, functionality and feature loss are not worth whatever minor gains in EB13 Froyo 2.2 such as bluetooth voice dialing, in-browser Flash support, etc. For now DI18 is the way to go for stability (record 600+ hours uptime before forced reboot) and for the most part everything work or have work around. Froyo 2.2 update is a failure for Sprint in comparison to T-Mobile Vibrant because theirs actually made improvements and resolve issues.
Method of upgrade was ODIN to stock DI18, run Samsung update for EB13, boot into recover mode, cleared cache and applied factory defaults.
EB13 issues found within a short time span and was concerned what else might surface:
- Instability, phone shut down when clicking on a link in browser
- Video camera live view and recording lag. I use the video camera every day so it was glaringly obvious.
- Graphical glitch in browser when dragging page where a block of the page is offset. This is glaringly obvious too and surprised it got by QA.
- Samsung update hung towards the end on second flash, good thing for old reliable stand-alone ODIN
You should try ODINing to EB13 rather than the Samsung method, most users so far have had a nearly flawless EB13 experience
I think it really depends on the exact methods people are using to upgrade. I haven't had any glaring issues, just some small things that existed on the stock 2.1, like weird button miss presses, some keyboard lag. Just waiting for a good EB13 rom before I say anything is defunct.
I wouldnt go all the way back to eclair....try if u don't like eb13 use dk28 I haven't gone to eb 13 but if I don't like how eb13 rides im going to dk28 especially now with a OC kernal
sent from my Epic 4G
If I only had one Epic, I would stay on di18, or a custom ROM based on di18. Since I have 2 Epics, one will stay on di18 and the other will continue to beta test Froyo ROMs. There is little progress between dk28 and EB13. Most of the bugs from dk28 still exist in the latest release. I really hope our devs here can clean this mess up.
Im sad to say. But I just did. The low fps on low light video recording killed EB13 for me. Useless since I go out and do pegan nightime rituals and record the clan meeting. Now instead of having awesome night time videos off me wearing my long night hooded warlock trechcoat, it looks like a disaster video of blurr. How can I continue my rituals with this shat samsung!? Foorrrr shaaaammme!
At first I went back to a rooted/customized DI18. Unfortunately, the damn system update message kept popping up saying that an update was available and needed to install. I eventually got sick of the message and flashed the phone to Froyo using Odin. What do I have to remove to prevent the system update from trying to update my rooted phone?

You can delete the system updater.apk in the system/app directory. This will prevent your phone from downloading and prompting you to update.

Color me lucky?
Used Samsung method after returning to stock. Battery, GPS et al rock solid on EB13. Enjoyed Bonsai, but am now "in the groove" - custom ROM had some nice details, but gaps as well. EB13 is a hi function 4G smarter phone for me!
I did. After the latest issue of losing 4G for 2 days straight I reinstalled eb13 and nothing. I went back to DI18 and 4G came right up, what a shocker.
EDIT: I'm running on midnight ROM eb13 4.0 and with the new wired tether apk posted in the themes and apps area, my phone is running flawlessly! I just had to correct this post.

I went back. I record videos all the time and that's what killed it for me. Even in still-camera mode the pictures look almost pastel, hate it.
I'll be going back to Eclair. I really didn't like anything froyo had to offer besides the updated youtube app (if I can't get that on 2.1) and flash support.
I just got froyo this morning OTA, went to class, came home and flashed it again hoping to fix my main problems. Didn't work. I just got done wiping my phone, flashing DI18, reboot, flashing EB13, and still it's still messed up.
I really don't care about the camcorder deal because I don't use it often but the laggy sleep/wake and no auto correct are really annoying for me. I only use my epic for browsing here and there and mainly texting/music. Now the audio sounds bad and on top of that my dictionary vanished. I don't even know if anyone else is having this problem because no one seems to say anything about it. Not to mention they changed the call log (the little phone button) and you can't toggle through ringtone volume>vibrate>silent any more with the volume buttons.
Gonna go back to DI18, root, remove system updater(thanks for that tip^), fix the yamaha calibutil thing, and sit happily while I wait for a stable(r) release. What a pain.

Well, I'm done messing with this phone. It has been in a desk drawer for 2 months waiting for an upgrade. Now that it officially has Froyo, I can advertise it as such and sell it on eBay. It's back to the EVO for me until my contract renewal comes up. From there, who knows. I loved the screen but hate the bugs!

Buy another phone.....preferably one not made by Samsung.
eb13 was anything but rushed lol
This is pretty sad. All of the people in this forum griped and moaned and yelled about not having froyo, now that they got it they dont want it. Bunch of kids
Now I dont profess to be an expert, but the low light thing is there, it is a bug and im sure they will fix it. is it a deal breaker? OMG no it isnt.
Theres alot of chatter on this. This is the deal breaker for some of us so please post if there is a solution at all on any version of froyo. Some say the camera blur is on all the leaks and the final EB13. Is that true?
I just tested it...
My camera was extremely unusable just now. But yesterday, I was able to record a basketball game perfectly indoors.
This was not present in dk28.
Dk28 actually had great lowlight useability... I recorded a few videos out in the park around midnight without flash and they were easily viewable. Flash was just a plus.
But now seeing this problem I might actually go back to dk28...I realllllly don't want to, but ima need the camera to work in low light...
I thought it was just recording laggy, but the playback was exactly the same
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I wonder if anybodys tried it with the OC kernel...it could possibly make up for the lag that is present. I don't think there will be a solution here on xda anyone soon, IMHO. This all seems to be a camera driver issue as I believe samsung changed the inherent behavior of the camera.
but this is all speculation of course

You know... I thought it was just me aswell. I reflashed the samsung tool again. After a full boot up, launched camera. It was actually better but not eclair better, then I did the prl update and profile update, reboot and now its it worse! This is actualy good news. Meaning that its just a software bug.

oh yeah. I used 1.2 genocide. No help, just as blurry.
inconsistent
The camera on the Epic has been inconsistent even before upgrading to Android 2.2. Sometimes the images rival a good point-n-shoot but only when there is plenty of light. The fact that the camera sticks out and collects smudges just from holding the phone does not help.
I have had better luck playing with the ISO and other settings. Even just leaving the camera in Macro seems to produce better results.
Is there a better camera app?
I wonder if anyone's had any luck installing the eclair camera app?

I switched back to 2.1 because of it using odin. 2.2 saves video in mp4 format, 2.1 saves video in 3gp. That may have something to do with it.

I was running the stock DK28 rom downloaded from Google when it was first leaked and I had zero problems with the camera.
I own a pretty dimly lit store, and I took several videos in there with the phone that I posted to YouTube showing off our products, with DK28. Now with EB13, the camera is useless in the same store with the same light.
This was not a problem with DK28. It's not Froyo. It's EB13 that's the problem.

thats my fear aswell. But sprint and samsung just pulled the update from their sites. So that means they do know of these issues anf realize it has to be pulled and fixed. But comparing eclair to froyo camera performance is night and day. Pretty much useless at low light. I need low light. But I will never buy htc just because they update faster. Htc has their own awful hardware problens like under performing gpu and cpu.

how u do a master reset? U mean the 768 dial code? Or odin flash?
I just brought an Atrix. Its coming in the postage and well initially i read reviews from Engadget and such. But what im a to expect? Is the battery life really that great? Oh and i plan to root the device, how do i go about doing that?
So yeah, Im new to android and moving over from WP7.
Personally I miss WP7. I had a focus, but I am more than happy with the Atrix. A lot of the issues people mention here are things that I do not get or notice. I can see the pixels on the screem, but only if I really try to look for them.
One thing the Atrix kills WP7 in is games. I'm playing Galaxy on fire 2 and History Channel Great Battles; they are great and rival my PS3.
I have a HTC trophy, and it really is a let down. Battery life is poor. Lasting maybe 7 hours when idle and when im using it throughout the day, usually it will last for about 4 hours. Camera isnt great, games are really awkward to play, oh and the speaker is crackles regardless of how loud it is. I will admit i do like the music player, the photoviewer and overall UI is really nice. But im sure i can customize android to the same standard. Right? Though, I heard atrix is alot smoother when playing games, but i dont know if it could rival my ps3 haha
I'll be getting one soon as well. can't wait

I too came from WP7 (lg quantum) and I tell you the Atrix is amazing I've never had any of the issues people reported and the battery really is that great. If you properly charge it from day one (drain the battery then let it charge for a day, and repeat) the battery will be amazing I no lie get around 14hrs of useage and im constantly youtubing, texting, downloading some game or playing a game, but using setcpu I have it underclocked at 816mhz but even at full I would get 10-12 hours of use. And as far as root. My favorite method is gladroot. Its clean neat and seems to work throughout updates.
But thats just my 2 cents

Thanks Guys, I really cant wait to get my hands on it. Battery life is a big issue with me, considering my phone was at 50% by 8:30 in the morning, and i had only taken it off the charger at 7ish. But to be fair, i had been on youtube and reddit for the hour and a bit. And I learnt today that my speaker doesnt work, its now just plain static. How lovely.

There are no custom ROMs or custom kernels available for the Atrix at the moment, there are "pseudo ROMs" that apply themes and hacks etc but still use the Motorola kernel. Supposedly 2nd init will open the door for some true ROMs/kernels in the future, but there is no eta. Dont hold your breathe for an unlocked bootloader like many are doing, there is no reason to expect one. I love CM7 on my Captivate and before that I flashed every ROM to the moon and back.. Hands down the Atrix is a better piece of hardware and is much more of a reliable phone out of the box. I am much more happy with the Atrix in its current state than I ever was with my Captivate running any custom ROM.
Edit: I stand corrected. It seams there is an unlocked bootloader solution being offered by Moto now is some countries and/or on a few leaked builds. Fingers crossed Moto/Att push this update to us also! But as of right now there is no official word. Only speculation and word passed from ear to ear.
Just a video I stumbled across on the upcoming update. It's in Hebrew but at least we can see the performance improvements the update will bring at least.

Another intresting thing he says is the better battery life, and better call quality
The rest review is just explanation of the plain all things we already know of like the Arc launcher, and the 2.3 update which brings apps2sd and thethering Etc.

But I'm sure the rest is enough, isn't it?
this week... this week... i will be in journey without access to web and computer! damnit!
i won't update right after it comes out... because if the superoneclick will be outdated then we're doomed for about another week
i need a mirror to see the video properly

no 16 m colors
no multi touch
no fps cap
same crapy 2.1 i mean 2.3.3
our 2.2 custom roms specially MIUI are much faster then this one

i really hope for better call quality because that, in my opinion, is the #1 reason wrong with x10. it SUCKS as a phone.

Why no FPS is good thing...anyways i guess we can remove that on our own now
no 16 M colors..you can see the diff with 65k and 16 m colors on a youtube video
no multitouch..had their been multitouch the guy would have SHOWN IT
ROM seems to be bit laggy specially while switching screens and turning on from a black screen, but yeah faster than 2.1 official
well... from what I have seen in this video must admit that this will be the first usable ''out-of-the-box'' firmware ever made by SE, so in conclusion, let the Devs make their job and we can enjoy our x10's as it was ment to be enjoyed ;-)
