o2 uk htc dream GSM auto (PRL) - G1 General

Hi
I was reading several articles today about power saving in various versions of android. and got reading about changing the preferred network type to "gsm auto (PRL)" in order to save power.
I thus tested this, and it gave me only a basic connection, no gprs, 3g or anything else.
I have a htc dream, with CM 5.0.8, on o2 uk pay as you go,
Any ideas how i can still get gprs and or 3g, and still have the possible bonus of that change in network type, and its power saving, please.

o2 3g on a Exec?

Hello all,
I have a XDA Exec, running windows 6.1, with a 3g sim and 10gig data plan from o2 in Ireland. My problem is I get nothing more than a few kb a sec. Normally 1-2kb/s. I've logged a call with o2 but expect nothing more that a response of "Its due to the area you are in" But I have tried it all over. In Dublin, Kilkenny, Waterford and a lot of other areas and its always old style GSM speeds. So has anyone got any ideas as to what it might be? Maybe a setting on the phone? Dont have an other 3g handset to try sadly. This is really needed as I have moved down to Kilkenny now and have no net other than what is on the phone.
Thanks
forgot to say, I am using radio 1.15 if that matters
ok, after a bit of searching, I am after setting the band to Auto under the phone settings. But still only GSM access speeds. I will be in waterford a little later and will try access the net there to see if there is a difference. Any other thoughts as to what it can be?

Hope this helps:
Go to Start/Settings/Connections
On your conection (Proxy settings) be sure that "This network connects to the Internet" is selected.
Go to Start/Settings/Personal and select "Band" and change "Select your Network Type" to WCDMA and then "Select your GSM/UMTS band" a GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
that´s it, next time you connect to internet, it has to connect to HSDPA (the connection icon should change to "H")

Manual network selection not working

Hi,
I got a problem that makes me crazy.
I leave in Switzerland, near the border with France.
As in Switzerland GSM transmitter have lower power than in France, my HD2 switch very often to french network and don't come back to home one (even when home network is stronger than french one).
In phone settings, I set "network selection" to Manual.
But phone seems to ignore this settings, and as soon as home network is unavailable, it switch to roaming, without asking ... And never come back to home network till roaming network is unavailable too (which is rare, due to stronger power).
Any one got an idea why manual network selection is not working ?
For your information, I always had this problem since I got a HTC with WM5/6
(got it with my Touch and my Diamond)
Another option could be to completly disable roaming (any way can be used), and when travelling, I can switch roaming back on.
Is this possbile ?
Thanks

A little up, in case someone got a response

[Q] HTC Touch2 on Tmobile USA

Hello, a friend of mine just picked up a HTC Touch2 from a family member in Singapore, we are trying to get it to work on her Tmobile USA line but are having some issues. In the connection setup it has the option for USA/Tmobile however running that seems to have no effect, the phone doesn't connect and I just get a (!) next to the signal. With the software option to set it up for so many carriers does it still need a sim-unlock or something? Or am I missing something else about the setup? Thanks for any help.
ok, so given enough time I figured this out myself, here's what worked in case anyone else comes across this problem. I forget where in the phone settings but there was an option to 'Auto' select gsm/wcdma and the frequency, I manually selected the frequency set that included Tmobile's range and now its working (edge only of course).

Vodafone 3G connection

Hi
I am trying to find out a way of forcing a new device I have just bought (Motorola ES400) to connect to the Vodafone network via 3G only.
I am testing it at work using a work sim, and are experiencing issues with our corporate APN on these types of devices, so I want to try 3G.
Does anyone know of a way either a bit of software, or a *# dial string that I can enter that will give me the option.
I have an HTC TP2 which has Advanced network settings in the connection settings area that allow me to disable HSDPA, but there is nothing on the ES400 that lets me do this.
Thanks in advance.
