A side effect of Froyo? - Droid Incredible General

This is all new to me. I'm the one that started the thread about a noob's adventures in rooting and with the help of a few people here (mostly mtag1029 who hung in there with me almost the entire day) I finally got Froyo. Well last night I began reinstalling some apps and I posted some thoughts in my other thread including something I ran into that was WELL BEYOND me.
It happened just now and I whipped out my camera to take a pic. It happened this time when I tried to open Astro. As you can see from the pic, it clearly didn't open into Astro, but what it did open to I have no idea. I just thought I'd post it for viewing by people far smarter in this field than I am.
EDIT: I'd like to add that at first the keyboard was visible but in the time it took me to grab the camera it disappeared.

It is a file editor. I don't know exactly what file, but just go to home screen.

I just hit the back button to get out of it, but I just didn't know why it happened twice since Froyo. It's certainly not normal.

Probably a problem with astro
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

Since you are rooted, get shootme and you can take great screen captures using the device without needing an external camera.

I thought it might be with Astro but as mentioned it first came up with a keyboard which is not something that's associated with using Astro.
As for ShootMe, I have it and tried to use it earlier today when it first happened but the minute I press the menu key or back, it goes away. When it happened the second time I figured is just grab a camera.
ShootMe is really cool BTW. I saw it mentioned in another thread and went and DL'd it today.

It isn't particularly an astrology problem, but astrology probably launched it, since thats the only way I know of to get into file editor.

Battery Manager force close on official 2.2

I'm running the official build of Froyo (2.3.15) and I'm still getting a force close in the usage stats in Battery Manager (process.com.android.settings). At first, I assumed it was a bug in the leak but I have the same problem on this official release. I reset my phone, using SBF, then I did the OTA to 2.2 and rooted using the Droid 2 rooting method. The strange thing about this issue is that it comes and goes with no rhyme or reason. Anyone else seeing this on the official release?
I've seen the error, but not consistently. When it works, it gives more detailed break down of the usage, which is an improvement.
Not sure what got it to work... fooled with it fit a while... FC... FC. Then ban, it worked.
usually plugging it in them taking it off forces it to work then if you actually restart or turn off and back on the phone then bam fc is right back of course mine has been doing this ever since any of the 2.2's came out highly annoying it is.

Why delete the files? Can't you just rename them to .bak instead of .apk?

Yes it's the same premise. I think the bottom line of that thread is that the got does not have them running/installed.
This has only happened to me when phone was connected to wall charger.

So strange. I had been reading all over the net about people having this issue but I never experienced it, not even once. Then all of a sudden it happened last night and happens every single time I try to open the Battery Manager now.
The only things I changed were that I applied Beesley's droid.prop edits manually (with 210 as the number used for LCD Density). I also downloaded WatchDog but I don't think that's a problem. Bummed about this
*#*#4636#*#* in the dialer gives the same info... and more...

I have 3 questions

I have 3 questions...first and most annoying, why does my phone seem to hit the back button on its own? I will ne reading xda (for example) and I will feel the haptic feed back and it will take me to the subforum, then to main forum, then to phone selection screen. Then I cant select my phone again I have to hit my home button an restart the xda app. It happens with all different apps, I am just on xda most of the time.lol.
Second, has anyones phone booted into safe mode? Why does this happen?
And third, do you know where the standard wallpapers are located so I can delete them? I have found the live ones and they are gone and so are thw stock tones. Thank you in advance.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
1st one sounds like a hardware defect or a rogue app. You can try a hard reset (wipe of data) and see if it fixes it, but if not, you got a wonky hardware set.
2nd, there is a combination of buttons to boot into safe mode, and I thought I remembered reading somewhere that if the phone crashes a certain way, it will boot back into safe mode, but I'm not sure.
3rd, not sure, good question. I'd have to look at it, don't remember off the top of my head. Are you running stock or aosp ????
Answer to 3. Wallpapers live within the framework-res.apk You would gain nothing by going through the trouble of deleting them.
good day.

Mine does that too.. except its the menu key happens most when it is in my car dock (3rd party) tho i have power and audio running to it... wonders if it is bad hardware...
I have buttons press themselves sometimes. It's usually when there is a lot of buildup on the buttons from using. Wipe them off and the problem stops.

That sound gross, but you might be on to something. I wonder if it could be this invisable shield I have on here. I have not had this phone without it. I bought it the same day I got the phone. Hmmmm

good day.
After wiping all stock tones and live wallpapers, I freed up about 30 mb and my phone just felt less bogged down. Also pulled a higher quadrant score(not that anyone cares about quadrant) just less useless crap on my phone. Thank you for answering

framwork-res.apk is a pretty critical apk, and to bother with disassembling, editing them out, then repackaging is just not worth it, trust us.
@chopper: figured thats where it was, just wasn't sure. Thanks bud.

I believe you. I will just stick with deleting what I can. Thanks for the help.
Would be nice(atleast to me) if when one of the devs were already in there if they would just take em out. I am still thankful for what you guys do. Thank you

Time of Page Refresh

I see many threads mentioning that they have a delay when rotating (fixed by calibration) but I do not have that issue.
My phone rotates quickly but it seems to take up to 15 seconds to refresh the icons on the screen in the new view.
Is this something unique to my device or is anyone else having issues? This began with DK28 and continued with EB13. Stock for both as well as with a ROM on DK28.
It may be app related, but with everything on my phone, it'll take more time to troubleshoot one by one than I have right now. That'll have to wait a few days, so until then, I'm just seeking general information/commiseration.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
Me.
I loaded eb13 from samsungs site, which of course wiped my phone, and I have the exact same issue. Very frustrating.

Installed launcher pro, and seems to be working much better. Tried going back to twlauncher and still super slow. Looks like ill be using launcher pro at least until there's an update. I'm liking pro better anyway.

Photos Disappearing!!!!

UGH my photos that I take with the camera are disappearing! I'm not sure how to replicate it but it might be either when I mount the usb or restart the phone.
Is this a known issue? Is anyone else having this problem? This almost renders the camera useless

also, this isn't just a gallery issue because when I check the DCIM folder with Astro file manager the photos are still missing

I had this problem too. Lost all my family videos and some pics, its very anoying bug... there is thread on google android somewhere, I posted here somewhere in this forum and the same content there. I think that maybe some instalation, but is just my opinion, embased in nothing.
I had several pictures I took disappear a few weeks ago. This was (obviously) while still on 2.3.2. No idea what the cause was, but I agree, they're not anywhere on the sdcard to be found. Very scary.
To be fair, I don't recall which of the three camera apps I use (stock, camera360, vignette) I took them with. I think it was vignette (and yes, I checked its folder). Are you using the stock camera or a 3rd party one?
For the time being, important pictures are being immediately uploaded/shared to my Picasa account.

In my case, my missing pics always reappear after rebooting. Funny thing is my previously deleted pics magically reappear in my Gallery (in a pixelated fashion) whenever my new pics go missing.
thank you for link. hope it gets fixed soon

New owner has two questions

I just bought the transformer after using gtab 10.1 for three weeks now. I love both of them. Not having facebook is a minus, but i can live with that. I am so used tu Samsungs Facebook. Transformer got its 3.1 update right out of the box and i've done a factory reset, si ce there nothing had been installed. Then i realized that gallery pictures had gone. Now i wonder what else had been deleted with factory reset. And where can i find originally installed pictures and other stuff?
Maybe one other question. Everyone speaks of light bleed. I didnt notice any, only down left edge has more brilliance, but i suppose it is the led source, no?
Thanx in advance

I also migrated from the GTab so I know the chnages in file names and locations can be a bit confusing at first. Use a file explorer and navigate to removable. That will be your uSD (if I recall sd2 or sdcard on GTab). Were the images you are missing self loaded or stock?
Yep that's the light bleed.
But if you can't find it don't look for it!
Enjoy your TF.
You may be speaking of the effect that honeycomb has within the system. Don't panic. Go on the market and download this:
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.ujacha.deadpixel&feature=search_result
See if you have any dead pixels first, and then look at the blank black screen closely and see if there is any light bleed.
As for the pictures and such, I wish I had done a factory reset because that was the first thing I deleted! There was some music too on there. Deleted that immediately. No need for those. I am curious as to what apps you have on yours. Do you have Kindle? Press Reader? Zinio?

Thanx for all the replies... and thanx for dead pikel proggie. I think mine is a superb one. Knock on wood. Not a single dead pixell. As for the light bleed, a slight change in luminescence on the left edge towards the bottom. Unnoticeable. I looked at first, for i had read too many complaints, and that was the first thing i was looking for. Happy, happy, happy. I love both my tabs, and my old samsung gsm euro tab.
