Whats the point in having the root for R2BA026 (or for that matter even 024)? Seems like there is no system image or the data partition image that is included in this update... so what difference does it actually make?
I mean there are some indications of timescape/mediascape improvements with this build... but they aren't really there with this "root" update... are they?
Wouldn't it be just better to also release a diff in the system and the data partitions that come with the updates?
I know that the earlier root relied on having the ota package available (which is then modified to setuid the "sh" binary), but even then... what if we simply compare the system image from the update with the base system and manually copy the modified apks, files etc to the running system with a /system partition mounted as read/wirte?
By the way I'm still curious to know who you guys managed to modify the ota package in the first place? care to tell? just asking guys... don't flame me for doing that...!

Nah it's more like j4mmer didn't even think about it before asking, He's using build R2BA023 without even questioning the point about using that build when everything started from build 016 (or root build 020, he could've just use that instead)
The point of having build R2BA024 or R2BA026 is the same reason why he picked 023 instead of 020, better performance and battery improvement due to later kernel build, things are snappier but you don't have to take my word for it.

Hey sorry that you felt that my query was a complaint, but it is not.
And, just to address the "hidden" parts of the updates... my question is really very specific to the X10a and to the updates released for root from 023 to 024 and subsequently from 024 to 026.
Here is what I flashed when I rooted to 023 along time ago:
$ cksum *.sin

I would assume that amss.sin would be the file that would contain the so called "radio and kernel" updates... but this file is essentially the same.
Oh wait... maybe its the build.prop that has these radio and kernel related enhancements? ( just kidding)
Seriously man, I understand that you don't have to answer or explain anything. This is a user/community driven forum and I just wanted to point out certain things for everyone to see and comment.
In my opinion, the recent updates that you made for the root, and specifically the file below, have nothing that I can detect that could be called as an improvement or enhancement for X10a users who might have already applied the previous releases for root such as ROOT_F2v2_X10a or ROOT_F3v2

Ah yea, I do have a tendency to do that some times... I fully understand that the build R2BA023 that I'm using came with a patched fota.pkg (so that it gives me the 023 related updates to the /system) and by flashing the baseband from 020 release for X10a.
This maybe the same for 024 as it does seem to include a fota.pkg. I have yet to try that. But you see my post above, my question specifically targets the 026 updates.
I have included some of my "thinking" steps for you to follow along.
EDIT: There was a typo in my question, so here it is again:
By the way I'm still curious to know how you guys managed to modify the ota package in the first place? care to tell? just asking guys... don't flame me for doing that...!

Very understandable, we all have the tendency to do that anyway so can't really blame you for anything (so my apologies if there is any rudeness in my previous post)
I can't answer the technical question as I'm not a dev, but I can say that there are slight difference in performance between 023 and 026 (maybe it's just me but on build 024 my phone likes to reboot itself every now and then and lags at some point even tho I killed most of the unused program)
(and yes I'm only answering the topic question as that's the only question I can contribute answers to)
Hey all, I need some help. i was rooted to 24, and now i need to unroot. I have an X10a with Rogers in Ontario. I took the 14 rom from the Decrypted Roms Thread, flashed it onto the phone, and that loads fine. problem is, when i try to see if theres an update on the phone, it says its up to date, and when i try to use SEUS to update, it fails leaving me with a brick needing reflashing. anybody know how i can get back to original firmware?
Thanks.

Hi, try using the PC companion. Go to Support Zone and try the software update... I noticed sometime back that the SEUS program wasn't really doing the job. With the PC companion, you should get an option to repair.
I tried that, and I had the same result. Error last minute with bricked phone.
Rooted R2BA024 and R2BA026... whats the point?
Keeping up to date.
This brings up a question, i have rooted 26 and i used titanium backup to restore all apps. Now i am wondering if it restored older versions of moxier/timescape/mediascape. Can anyone with rooted 26 tell me what versions of those apps they have?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
What I mean in the above is that in settings->manage applications, my Timescape lists as being version 1.
That can't be right can it?

Hmnmn. That is the same as mine.
Titanium doesn't make it all that clear what its batch modes do when a newer version is already on the phone.
If timescape has not been downgraded, I will assume it is smart enought to keep the newer one.

Using's Dr.Death FOTA fetcher (found here), I've compiled a list of all the shipped roms and their respective OTA updates as of 21/02/2011
I've writen an script that checks all known RUU and OTA version, if it finds an OTA not known, it will be marked as FOUND NEW VERSION ###
WARNINGS: DO NOT FLASH THOSE OVER A ROOTED ROM OR YOU'LL LOSE IT!
All Froyo (3.x) updates includes an new HBOOT 1.01 and can't be S-OFF
All versions above 1.x can't be rooted, if you update, you'll have to downgrade the phone
OTA updates are patches only and can be used exclusively for the rom version it was built for.

I agree. Good Post.
Good work, links would be great as would date of shipped rom release and what software changes there were between the different roms. If that's possible to fit in around everything else you do day to day

No idea, it's the letter after the rom version, I thought I'll leave it, could it be R for Radio? I'll go check the content of those OTA and see if there's any similarity and/or difference.
For download, no problem, I can have them uploaded to my server.
I'll look into finding their change logs but that's lot of manual labor lol

Nop, not related to Radio/Recovery
Script to check for OTA update of all known versions listed in the spreadsheet/shipped-roms.com
Batch like, sequential check. Will improve it later one, if it finds an OTA not known, it will be marked as "*** FOUND NEW VERSION ***"

Hey i am currently using cyanogenmod for legend.. i had download the OTA update using the script .. (2.05 ) . From shipped roms i can download only 1.32 version.
I want to know that if i flash using that OTA update , will i get restored to my old htc version ...
or should i run the RUU to 1.32 , then run OTA ... but is that possible. .. Please reply ..

I'd suggest you not update to 2.05 because of the SMS sorting bug unless you use a 3rd party messaging app, when you open a conversation, it starts at the top, oldest first.
If you do still want 2.05, you can grab the HTC asia WWE 1.31.707.2, which then gives you OTA update 1.31.707.3 and then 2.05.707.1
Or one of the Vodafone 1.31.x or 1.32.x
But the best right now is 2.03, I'd just grab 2.03 stock rooted or flash the RUU, in which case you'll loose root and have a harder time to get it back if you choose too
2.03 stock, rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735299
but i am using asia_india rom ... for that 1.32 rom doesnt have any ota update ...
Hello everyone,
I'm new here. Haven't done to my Legend anything yet but am considering and I'll read more threads about it on this very good forum. Would like to have Froyo and wifi tethering because of my android tablet.
However, I just thought to mention (maybe this is not the place; if so, I'm sorry) that I run 2.05.720.1 which is not on the list. If you want it and if I can, I wouldn't mind grabbing it and posting it here/sending it to Kwen or whoever will update the list. I haven't noticed any bugs or problems with this build apart from the obvious that it's not Froyo. That's the only reason why I haven't gone cyanogen yet.
Cheers,
Steve

hello
from what i have been reading build number should be R2BA026.
mine is still R2BA023, is this normal?
i have ran SEUS, and the "software update" on my phone and they all show its updated
Are you branded or unbranded
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Yes its normak if you have a brandet version. That means your carrier need to send out the firmware to seus. They maybe just eaitet fir the android 2.1 update. Instead of rolling 26 aswell

i have a X10a through telstra, its also rooted.

mate, u will either need to debrand completely, or flash your phone with a different ROM
(or is that basically the same thing !) i flashed my optus branded x10 with global generic (i think its UK or Nordic) and all is good.
another benefit of this is that u wont have to wait for Helstra to get their finger out and have a 2.1 branded ROM for you. if you have a generic rom, then you get the 2.1 update as soon as its available (via seus obviously)
cheers, tim
edit: when you run SEUS - it checks what version you have (telstra) and then looks in the dB for the latest telstra rom available. telstra have only published/released up to the version you are running, therefore "no updates available". If you were running a generic version, when you connected up to SEUS it would be looking for a different version. hope that is a bit clearer
if i completly debrand it, and something happens to it, can i just brand it again and send it back, kinda like. rooting then un-rooting ect
?

I found that optus were the quickest of the Aussies, but still they would be a few weeks behind. You will NOT get the update within the same day as it gets released - put it that way.

right, im gunna want a bit of confirmation from others here....been a while since i did this.
using Bin4ry's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907 i grabbed the latest files from the fileshare websites listed. basically the files that Bin4ry and the other guys have created are a script (batch files) that prompt you step by step. i know the method is called ROOT but its the same process. To ROOT in this original method, you had to flash back to an older revision of the firmware and then update. When you flash back to the older version, it is a generic version. Then you can simply use SEUS to update to newest. KEEP IN MIND that doing ANY kind of firmware update will completely erase anything on the internal memory. This is NOT the sd card, so pics and such will be ok but contacts - msgs - settings will all be gone. might be best to do the one-press root, install titanium backup first and then backup your phone book and other important apps that you may have.
main thing is to ask questions. there are sh!tloads of ppl on here with heaps of knowledge. be safe in the knowledge that you cannot, CANNOT completely screw your phone. you can always flash another firmware back onto it using SEUS. once ppl hack the bootloader, this will be a different story but until then just get in there and have a go
good luck and happy modding!!

main reason that you would root first is so you can use titanium backup to backup your apps and settings. You will still need to flash to a non branded firmware, jerplea has a few ROMS on his posts, probably best to have a look in those threads and ask the masters

when you say wont work....what do you mean? When running the flash tool are you following the prompts on screen? you need to have USB Debugging enabled on the Settings=>Applications=>Development enabled. let me kow where it is failing and we might be able to get it working for ya....if you are still keen anyway
just been reading through the original post from Bin4ry again (the flashing/rooting one)....i think that you should post on it exactly where the problems are, where it is failing and what you are doing. There are several active users on there that are very knowlegable on flashing

it sounds like a java problem actually.....do you have java installed?
what OS are you on? if its Win7 64bit (or Vista 64bit), there is a 64bit java fix that you need to run also. have a look at this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713457
if you are on a 32bit machine then chances are its a deviceID issue but from what you have posted above - it looks like the java problem.
win64 bit, and i think i got java cant remember lol.
will check it out though soon thanks
Today I received an OTA system update version 1.82.405.1 on my HDZ.
Does anybody here received or installed it??
And what kind of update is it?
I'm affraid of losing root again, similar like what happend with version 1.72.
I feel like I'm stating the obvious here, but NEVER EVER install an OTA if you have root! I'm sure you know this now from your previous experiance, but just to save you trouble incase you didn't know. As for the update, I'm not sure what it contains, but it seems like an older update as the newest version of virtuous is based on 1.85.72.2.
EDIT: Also suggest reading this if you haven't already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875099
Thnx.
But I've read it's safe to flash an OTA update once you've rooted your phone with the Gfree method.
I now running a stock 1.72 rom, rooted with Gfree / psneuter.
In that case I'm not sure, but I wouldn't try it until it's been confirmed to be ok. And while I'm sure you have you're reasons, but why not try out the likes of virtuous? It's pretty much stock sense but with added features and improved performance, and as I said it's also on the latest RUU.
Taking an OTA will *definitely* reduce you to "stock", so even if its safe, it isn't worth it.
Be aware that it *IS POSSIBLE* for an OTA UPDATE to modify your partition 7 and take away radio s-off. The only reason why people tend to say that its safe is ONLY because they never actually HAVE done that.
still i am curious about the content.
i dont need root anymore. DZ is perfectly fine without.
I don't think applying and offical OTA while rooted on a non stock rom is a good idea. If your willing to take the risk, or don't care about loosing root or getting it back if lost. Then try it out. Be the guinea pig because it doesn't look like you will take the advise of the forum you posted anyways.

yes, it is a 17 Mb package. I got it and installed it. (nothing to lose, I have no root, I do not need it, my DZ is PERFECT without it. I have been tweaking and **** before on WinMo, but not now...)
It said it is camera improvements and other small bugfixes.
All I saw is a different sms counter on the icon, it's white numbers on a black circle, nothing special.
I had a busy day, had no time to play around.
The firmware remains 2.2.1.
I will follow up if I find out anything else.
Update: the mentiones sms counter is for a voicemail of course ))) my fault
I've read the album/gallery bugs are fixed. No need to rescan pictures anymore.

No use as the updates are usually non-important and if they are, someone will extract it and you can flash it by itself without the risk.
HTC hasn't yet released official release notes for this update. As already said it should improve camera, system performance, fix some bugs and also improve htcsence.com -functionality.
htc 1.82.405.1 update
I just updated using the OTA update to 1.82.405.1 on my htc desire z (I have stock android).
But now the touch screen is horizontaly mirrored.
Meaning if i click on home the search button is clicked.
If i touch the icons on the left side, the right side icon registers the click.
Only center of the screen is safe
Let me know if anyone else has this issue after the recent updated.
Hopefully there is a solution out there.
UPDATE:
I did 2x hard resets which didnt help.
However a soft reset did the trick and every thing is back to normal.

If you already have root/S-OFF, then it's only "safe" once the new release has been verified by the devs as not causing anything bad to happen with your root/S-OFF. e.g. in theory there could be a new OTA released that will permanently lock you out of root/S-OFF.
When the 1.72 OTA first came out, it wasn't rootable for quite a while, so folks with root who accepted the OTA lost their root for some time.
Damn, I am getting the feeling the new update drains the battery faster than 1.72,
phone was about empty at 11pm yesterday, it was plugged in until 8 am...
done nothing the entire day actually...
notification-bug seems to be fixed (yes, new counter for sms/mails/etc) and best part: no jumping screen, when writing sms!!! at least till now...
I am guessing this might be coming from someone once it's released, but it's been a while since I played with my phone and I'm not that tech savy on the latest on these as things are constantly moving/changing.
I'm running a 2.2 Custom ROM and would like to upgrade to the stock generic 2.3 GB once it's released and I have no clue as to the best way to do this. So once it's out, if we can get a decent step by step how to, that would be great.
Thank you.
i would say use the flashtool thread in the dev section, flash a world generic rom and the corresponding baseband. don't root it or anything like that.
sign in, then connect to pc companion and see if the update hits.
Flash stock 2.1 firmware
update your x10 thru SE software
ensure your phone is rooted and xrecovery installed then wait for pre-rooted gb update to come out on here. It will be almost certainly simply bea case of flashing kernal and baseband using flashtool and custom update using xrecovery.
i certainly would not recommend flashing your phone back to stock 2.1 roms at this point in time - if you update to stock gingerbread then rooting may become more tricky and you may well have to go back to 2.1 rooted before you can get a rooted gingerbread - we simply dont know what security fixes will be included in the gingerbread update - so we dont know how easy it will be to root it once you have updated to stock 2.3
step 1. wait for the rom to launch
step 2. go to the gingerbread thread and read!!
step 3. read before posting the same question that's been asked thousands of times already!!

I'm going for this route as well, wait for a flashtools rootable 2.3. But i don't think it will take much long, the x10 gingerbread rom is based on the one SE worked for the Arc and that was rooted pretty quickly, no?
For those still with stock 2.1 i can understand all the excitement, but for me, i've been using a custom rom with basically the same UI and features for a while, I can wait a little longer.
They were only able to root arc/play/neo 2.3.2 they are still working on a way to root 2.3.3 so far no luck.

If you are referring to using an easy one-click method to root, then yes you are correct.
But there are other ways to achieve root on 2.3.3 which involves flashing.

Yeah, I was reading the post 2 above this one swearing & shaking my fists, because I'm running j's 2.3.3 rooted rom right now....2.3.3 can be rooted, it's just gonna be a little while before it's a one-click. That's always how it goes
Now that arc, neo, play & x10 are all gonna be 2.3.3, maybe it'll get the ball rolling a little faster on one-click solutions. We do have the largest Xperia dev community in the X10 section, afterall
We can simply "repair" the phone with SEUS. SEUS will download the last version for your device and install it automatically.

maybe, but only with an unrooted, unbranded generic 2.1 rom SE says to use PCC, which means it will most likely be available for SEUS, too (IIRC, they use the exact same database for the rom updates)
Good info so far. I might sell my phone (or lend it to a friend) and it would obviously sell best with an OEM 2.3 unlocked ROM which is assumingly bug-free for the most part.
So SEUS looks at what is currently on the phone and repairs it to that?

SEUS does the same thing PCC does, but it actually works every time like it should
It reflashes your firmware....and it's saved my ass many, many times If it weren't for SEUS I'd have a bricked phone at least a dozen times over lulz

is this the official stock UK 2.3.3 rom?
check the dev section, everyone
doomlord uploaded a flashable pre-rooted GB, not as easy as one-click-root but it's here
So the streak has been launched into china some time this past summer.
Rom: 360
Build: 17397
Region: China
Region: Retail
Stage UI 1.6
Dated: May 31, 2011
From usual update timelines the earliest it could have launched was approximately mid-late june
Since the streak 10 was launched in august it could likely be the month immediately before to build up hype or something
I cannot say much about the details of the rom itself, as I dont have a good dump, only a modified dump.
It seems to be 351-like but possibly customized.
If I had a clean dump, or even better a pkg i can do a proper build analysis
I have a copy of the pkg now: It is basically an updated version of 351
There are no new bundled apps, only updated ones
Stage UI has been updated to a slightly newer version of 1.6
Still 2.2.2
I am not sure if It is recommendable over 351 as it's not available on the OTA server, but here it is installable in the usual way:
mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak_360_17397_00.pkg
More info please!

I have installed the 360th. Looks absolutely similar to 351 (including all applications and languages; it`s not a chinese version).
- the Quadrant score is 775
- OOVOO doesn`t start automatically
- GingerBreak 1.2 installed, but no SuperUser and no root !!!
- SuperOne Click also doesn`t help with root
(reminder) before returning to 351, it`s necessary to downgrade the recovery version.
my dell streak is the second phone for me and i use it for internet and multimedia; in standby 3-4 days, for music/movies or internet nonstop around 14-16 hours, depends ...
i think i will stay on original 2.2.2
Confirmed working fine. Can't notice any big differences
to the 351 version. But the nagging oovooo crap isn't
autostarting anymore, as someone else mentioned.
Anyway, hats off to the great Manii, for this find!

I root in the time honored tradition of yore:
0. Install Dell drivers for PC.
1. Install Streakmod Recovery (for ease of use, Multirecovery Flasher works wonders here).
2. Update from zip and select Superuser.zip.
I've oversimplified this. Manii has a how-to in the development forum, and Radimus' Guide to Rooting the Streak is a must. But, this route should work without fail, whereas the one-click root methods don't always work.
Now...I have to debate whether I want to go the route of upgrading to this ROM and having to install everything again or sticking with 351.
If you're on a 351 stock, you can likely click the pkg link with the built in browser and it'll ask you to update in place. This only works though if the rom can normally update to it (ie regions match correctly)
Basically that means updating without touching/wiping your data.
At least I think this works, I've heard it a few times but I never bothered trying as I have no reason to as I always wipe data when installing a new rom (for testing/hacking)
There should be no difficulty regarding the region, as this Streak had 347 on it when I received it.
I've never heard of using the browser to begin the update before, which is why I thought I was going to have to reinstall everything.
I believe that the package installer utility included in stock roms is what does it. It marks itself as able to run pkgs files and will prompt you if you try to run an update pkg. (same way gallery can run jpgs/pngs/etc)
Clicking the download link is the simplest way of running a pkg, you could also try using a file explorer and selecting the pkg
Assuming this works, you of course need the correct stock recovery installed, basically any 00 region one in the case of 360

Has anyone tried this method to update over 351?
I'm interested to see if this would be a painless update over the previous retail ROM.
I tried it. The download from the link Manii put up in this thread returned an error of "Download unsuccessful: Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." I believe the fact I am rooted is playing a huge part in this since I know I can update the ROM using the stock recovery.
If there are no major changes between 351 and 360, I'll stay with 351. I strip out most of the bloatware and Stage UI anyway.
