Hi all,
So after I rooted my Vibrant, I got a bit careless and ended up erasing a file I should not have. Now my phone "boots" to a screen that shows a flip-phone connected to a PC. In between the two in an orange triangle with an exclamation point.
I have been trying every key combination possible to get this guy into download mode, but to no avail. I have a box coming(so I can get it replaced), but I was wondering if anyone can offer up some help?
I have tried holding the volume down and up keys(individually and at the same time) then pressing power. I have also tried the same process, but pressing the power and the volume key(s) at the same time, but to little end. The screen just goes blank for a second and then returns to that same old image.
Any ideas?
first question... is your sdcard and sim card removed?
this happened to me the first time I used odin.... I removed the battery, took out my sdcard and started the download process again...
with phone powered off:
1) plug in usb
2) press both volume keys with index and middle finger
3) press power with thumb
4) screen powers on, when it goes black, release the power button
Godly my new friend, straight godly.
If you are ever near Santa Cruz drop me a line, I owe you a beer.

Running nero 5. My daughter touched my phone and when I saw it it was shutting down and then didn't boot up but instead is on a screen with a yellow yield sign with android sweeping and it says "downloading... do not turn off target!!!"
She must have held the power button, but I have no idea what else she did. Can anyone help me? I have no idea what any of this means.
it looks like she was able to accomplish something that many here have a hard time
Your phone is currently in downloading mode. You can exit it by pressing and holding power until it shuts off. Then press power key once again to start it up. If that doesn't work then make sure USB is not connected and open the back cover take out the battery, wait 10 secs, put the battery back in, close the cover and press power key once to start it up. It should work.
Darn kids! Just follow what VICosPhi said and you should be just fine.
Hello all,
My mother got an a500 about seven months ago and the other day she put it to charge and the next day it wouldn't turn on at all, just a black screen. When the charger is plugged in, the power button glows white. Take it off charge and the light goes out and that's all it will do.
I have tried searching through multiple forums and I have tried all the solutions I have found. I tried pressing the reset button near the usb plug, I tried a hard reset by holding the power and volume + buttons multiple ways, i.e. I held them both for thirty seconds, held the vol button and pressed power for three seconds and about every other iteration I could find. Nothing happened not even a vibration like from what I've read it is supposed to do. I downloaded the update.acer.zip file and put it on an sd card and tried flashing it by holding the power and vol - buttons, still nothing.
The tab has not been moded in any way, however, God only knows what apps my mother way have downloaded to it...
I am at my wits end and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a noob so it wouldn't surprise me if I am not doing the flashing right or if I have the wrong files, all the links I found on the forums were non functional and I had to download it from filecorp.com.
Thanks in advance!

The white light when plugged to the charger just indicates it's fully charged.
Test 1. Press and hold the PWR button for 7 seconds, release, wait a couple seconds to see if it responds, then press and hold for another 7 seconds. See if it responds. This is to check if the tab is in Sleep of Death (SOD)
Test 2. Using a paper clip, press and hold the pinhole reset (near USB) and then press and hold PWR. After 4 seconds release PWR, 1 second later release pinhole. See if is vibrates and goes into APX mode, (tab should vibrate once with a black screen and white PWR button) if it does, press and hold PWR only for a few seconds. Wait a couple seconds, then PWR on tab by holding PWR about 6 or 7 seconds.
Test 2 is just to see if the tab responds to anything,
If you can't get any response from the above, then it's best to turn it in for repair.
MD
@Moscow Desire: he pressed the reset button already so it is probably not SoD. Unless SoD makes reset button unresponsive too.
My tab does not vibrate when entering APX mode at all. Only the white power button LED turns on and the screen stays off.
@Core645: try this at first
- disconnect charger so the LED turns off
- hold power button for about 5 seconds
If the power button LED turns white and nothing else is happening then your tab is stuck in APX mode. You can confirm this by connecting micro USB cable from your PC. If you have windows it'll ask for drivers for Nvidia Download Mode or something like that.
Then check what Moscow Desire suggests with the reset button. I only ask you do my check at first because by holding reset you would achieve the same result and you wouldn't know if it is stuck in APX or you just forced it to APX by holding reset button.
This phone just broke after 3 months of use. Since I brought it off of amazon as unlocked, I do not have warranty on phone. The phone was not dropped nor water-damaged. It was sitting on the table and suddenly experiencing problems with lag. I proceed to turn off and try to restart phone.
The phone does not boot when I press the power button.
What I've tried:
case 1: I removed SD card, removed battery and removed USB cord. Press power button for 10 seconds. Put back battery and press power button
result 1: LED light on. The phone vibrates 5 times. Remains in black screen
case 2: I called my phone number from another phone
result 2: Straight to voice mail. This indicates the software did not even boot up. Hardware display is not the issue here. Most likely a Software issue.
case 3: I hold volume down key and power key to attempt hard-reset
result 3: LED light on. The phone vibrates 5 times. Remains in black screen
Since I routinely backed up my phone data. Last time I've checked (~4 days ago), the SD card was not nearly full. It was approximately 25% used space.
PLEASE HELP!! YOUR HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!
Are you able to access any of the service menu's such as bootloader or fastboot mode?
If your not aware what those are, there are many references in this forum for you to find information.

No. The screen was all black. But fortunately, the phone was able to turn on after some trial and error.
You remove the battery and USB cord. Then while pressing (and holding) the home button key, you put back in the battery and press the power button. To hard reset, you must press volume down key, home key, and power key at the same time.
Glad that you got your phone working!
Mine continues to remain dead
I had this problem a few months back at first i too thought the phone was dead - but it did make boot vibration noise - but the screen would always remain "black" but after some time and after going into a very dark room i was able to see that the screen was not black, but that the backlight went out on it -- after having my screen replaced the phone now works fine - think i was using cm7 at the time.. hope this might help
Thanks for this tip! I'll check on the phone I had as well. I got to get it back from my buddy.
Hi there I just noticed that my phone will not turn it's screen on. Just when I press Home button or Power button them 2 touch buttons on bottom will start flashing and nothing else will happend. Even after taking battery off for few minutes and restarting phone doesn't help. After restarting phone screen will just blink for split second and then stays black! Phone was working on just few hours ago and wasn't touch since then just untill now. This is stock GT-I9505 updated with Kies few days ago. Did anybody heard about something like that before? Can't connect to Kies now as screen needs to be unlocked for this. Please help as I don't know what to do!
You could try download mode to see if you get any display there and it may also be worth checking the user accessible stuff (sim/take out sd card/check sockets for foreign objects etc) but I would start looking at getting it replaced under warranty.
cheers
Removed both sim and sd card with no joy. How to get to download mode? as I've tried all those ways:
FIRST METHOD (easiest/most common)
1) Power phone off
2) Plug USB into computer
3) Hold vol up + vol down
4) Plug USB into phone while still holding the vol up and vol down
5) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
Your now in Download mode
SECOND METHOD
1) Power phone off
2) Plug USB into Computer
3) Plug microUSB into phone
4) Hold pwr + vol up + vol down
5) When Batt icon goes away, release pwr, still holding vol up + vol down
6) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
You should now be in Download mode.
THIRD METHOD
1) Power phone off
2) Pull battery out
3) Hold vol up + vol down
4) While holding vol up + vol down, plug in USB cable into the phone
5) While still holding vol up + vol down, put battery back in
6) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
You should now be in Download mode.
and this one as well:
How to get into Download Mode (eg: for Odin)
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME DOWN' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 2 seconds until a WARNING! Screen appears. Press the 'VOLUME UP' button to enter Download Mode.
To get out of Download Mode, simply press and hold the power button until the phone restarts.
Screen still stays black. I forgot to say that when turning it on it vibrates as normal and after I remove battery for 10-15 sec and put it back again and then turn phone back on screen just flick for split second but not at whole area only part of it - different part every time I try this

I think you'd rather get it repaired or replaced. It seems the display is dead.
That's what I'm afraid will have to be done. Just hard to stay without it just a week after getting it from store
Haven't you heard? Once you go black you never go back.

I had the same problem, what I did was went to youtube and try to disassembled the phone.
-Checked to make sure everything is in the right place
-Took off all of the components and leave the motherboard by itself
-Heat up the motherboard with blow dryer for sometime until it get hot (not wayy too hot)
-Put the battery back on (don't screw drive anything back yet)
-Try to power up
-To make sure it works properly, lightly flicks on to every places on the side of the phone and screen.
-Put everything back on gently and done
Reflow soldering using home tools of any kind is, at best, a crapshoot. Using an oven, as some people recommend, runs the risk of melting plastic components if you turn the heat up too much. Plus the temperatures these people recommend are too low to melt the solder completely, which is what you want in reflow work. A hair dryer is a better idea than the oven since you can direct the heat. However, a lot of the heat generated by the hair dryer doesn't actually blow onto what you're trying to fix. The hair dryer also suffers from not being able to put out sufficient heat to melt solder completely. The best of the home solutions without spending tons of money on a solder reflow station, is a heat gun. Even the most basic heat gun puts out sufficient heat to melt solder completely, plus the heat is concentrated on a small area, which is what you want. I would know, as the laptop I'm typing this on was repaired twice. The first time using the oven method, and the second time using a heat gun.
Prior to purchasing the heat gun, I had tried baking my laptop's motherboard in the oven at 385 degrees F (196 degrees C) for ten minutes. The fix worked, for about a month. The problem was that the recommended temperature was too low to melt solder. Lead-free solder, which is used in most electronics worldwide, melts around 217 degrees C (422 degrees F). While I could have tried again at the higher setting, there is a risk of the plastic components on the motherboard melting, so I had to try something else.
I considered the hair dryer, but after doing a little research determined that the hair dryer just didn't have what it takes to get the job done. I bought the heat gun instead. To reflow my laptop GPU for example, I had to make sure all components except the GPU were covered in aluminum foil. I then held the gun one inch (2.54cm) above the chip and turned it on, holding it steady. After letting the gun run for a minute I shut it off and waited twenty minutes for the board to cool.
As of now, the heat gun repair has lasted longer than the oven repair. Hopefully I can get another year out of the laptop before getting a replacement. But, regardless of how the reflow work is done, there is no guarantee as to how long the repair will actually last. For some people, it doesn't work at all. Some people may get a month or two, like I did with the oven reflow. Some lucky individuals may actually have the repair last essentially forever. But when you're out of warranty and the repair service wants to charge an arm and a leg, what do you really have to lose?
Guys I was yesterday turned off the phone, now turns and reaches the black background with logo of Samsung Galaxy S4, then restarts, will not let me enter recovery mode, and if I enter download mode, gives me the option of pressing button increase or decrease volume and pressing any of these resets and returns to the above.

What can I do?
Your power button may be stuck.
when pressed, it feels normal

It just "feels" normal.
Try tapping it on a hard surface for a while..not too hard tapping though..
It should be fine. Happens with many here
could it be because the place you battery latches only
I just remove the phone to see if the buttons are locked, and there were none in this condition
I believe there are 3 connections on the motherboard for the power button. Do you have a multimeter to see if the power button circuits are constantly open or closed?
I opened it and pulled the internal button on and off and was constantly rebooting, I took a technical service and changed the internal button now works well; )
