1.Download the recommended PimBackup program.
2.Copy/paste or Cut the pimbackup.exe file onto your storage card.
3.Open your phones file explorer and double tap on the program.
4.Follow the steps and backup contacts, messages, etc. etc.
5.Remove the SD card.
6.Flash the ROM and reinsert the SD card.
7.Open your phones file explorer and double tap on the program.
8.On the drop down menu find restore and press browse.
9.Look for the pimbackup_2010XXXX file in the root of your storage card and select it.
10.Press next and sit back and watch all the cool text pop up.
11.Your done. That's the fastest way for me to quickly back up my stuff and restore after flashing a new ROM.

Cant sync and need to backup!

Hi Guys,
My XDA Mini S has lost teh ability to activesync! I have tried everything and i think my only option is to reflash it. However I want to backup my contacts, calendar etc first. What are the files i need to copy to back these up? I loked but couldnt find them!
Thanks in advance.
I had a similar issue. What I did was copy my PIM.vol file to my SD card. Once that was done, remove the SD card and reset your device. When you get it running again. Copy the PIM.vol file back to the device and replace the one that is there.
Hope this helps

No sdcard applications after Wipe!

Hello,
Few hours ago, I managed to fix the grey "Move to SD" problem in froyo by using the setInstallLocation 2 solution, after doing that, I moved all my applications to the SD card. Then I did a wipe factory reset to my device.
When turning on the phone, the SD card apps were gone, but they are still in my SD card "secure" folder, files with .asec extension.
They don't exist in my phone, but when turning on the usb storage, i can see them in my SD card.
Has this happened to anyone?? ty very much/1
I don't have much experience with this option, but I would say that a wipe is a wipe and the associated file on the sdcard is only a link to the put the application on the sdcard not the full application.
At best it would keep the option when you re-download that application from the market.
If so, where the real application is? what's the point of "moving the SD" if the application is still stored on the phone?
And it can't be a link because of the size of the files, it's really near the size of the application. I'm convinced it is the application, but wondering why I can't use or find them.
it's pissing me off, i had plenty of games and useful apps
yes, the "registry" of installed apps is gone with the wipe, so android does not know how to use those files on the sd card. You will have to nandroid/titanium restore or reinstall.
Aww.. lucky i got the saved games on the sd...
I got an unrelated question:
I found that the apn settings are saved under the file apns-conf.xml.
I downloaded the file with the settings i need, pushed it to system/etc and still i don't get the apn settings. tried rebooting the phone, and wonders why i still don't get the apns?
If you have a backup, restore it, move all your apps back to phone, then wipe, flash the new rom and move them back to SD.
All problems solved, ty

Tips To Prepare X10 For Sell?!?!

hey, i'm selling my x10 soon and i would like some tips on the preparation. thanks for the help. hopefully this would also be useful for future sellers.
1.) what should i do to save the important data (like pictures, videos, text, contacts).
2.) i would also like to save the apps if possible cause my next phone would most likely be another android .
3.) and how do restore to its factory state (erase all my info, data)?
connect it to your pc, move all your files that you want to the SD card - or to your pc if you want to sell with the SD still installed.
if you have a rooted phone, search for all your .apk files and copy to sd/pc also.
sure fire way to ensure phone is crisp and clean is to flash it back to original spec.
might not be the easiest way, but it will ensure that NO data is left behind!!
anymore tips?
If the phone is rooted I'd recommend Titanium Backup (http://matrixrewriter.com/android/). You can take a backup of all apps, settings, contacts, etc and then selectively restore to the new phone.
You still need to backup your SD card as mrtim123 said.
if use mybackup to backup the apps,, do i still need to copy all the apk files from my phone to my pc? do i simply
1 From the Home screen, tap the applications bar.
2 Tap Settings > SD card & phone storage > Factory data reset > Reset phone.
3 Enter your screen unlock pattern.
4 Tap Erase everything.
to delete everything and restore it back to factory settings?

How to transfer data after you switch your hd2 to Android?

Hi there,
I just upgrade my hd2 to Android (Mdeejay_eVo_sense), may i know how to use PIM Backup to restore all of my contacts, SMS, etc since i already switch to android? I haven't seen much information on PIM for Android so I was wondering if anyone else had other suggestions? Anyone have any experiences with them? The PIMbackup file is still in my SD card. How to retrieve and put in the Android?
I cant seem to connect to my laptop after install Android? Any idea?
Appreciate your help. Thanks a bunch!
What file type is you Pim backup? You can load some contact files straight into gmail using your browser, as for pc connection you need to activate it in android
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
sync with gmail account then when you're on android, it will load all your contacts and agenda
Funambol is good for contacts. Haven't used it in a minute tho. Not sure of any new features. There is a winmo version and and android one, making the tranfer fairly painless
Try this: it's the method to convert pim backup files (pib) into some files android can read BUT you have to replace Step 4 with the following:
4. Put the csv file on the root of your SD Card.
5. When on Android (AOSP/Cyanogenmod builds) Home screen, press the phone icon, then go to the contacts tab, press the windows key (acting as the menu key), then select import contacts, import from sd card, and wait until it finds the csv file, then select it and wait (better plug your phone to the charger, it can take up to 10 minutes depending on how many small files you have on your SD card), et voila.
Done
p.s: it looks a lot like this, but it takes you 3 to 4 minutes to be to step 5.
f.
edit: you don't need to sync with Gmail if, just like me, you don't want Google to have a copy of all your contacts.
Thanks guys for the tips! Truly appreciate it!
I'm now using forelli's method, i followed the step till the 5th step. However, when i press "Import from SD Card", it shows that "Scanning Sd card failed (Reason" No vCard file found on the SD card)?? But i already inserted csv in SD card. any idea??

Simple question - downloaded ROM cleanup

Really simple question that I couldn't find an answer to. I've been trying several different rom's and slowly learning what I like and dislike. I don't have issues yet but how do I delete the downloaded rom's I know I'll never use again? And how do I clean up my backup files so I don't have a ton of backed-up rom's I don't need?
well to delete/rename backup you got you can download ROM manager and use the Manage ROMs function
you can also do this manually by plugging the phone to your computer and accessing your SD card from there in the folder clockworkmod (if thats the recovery youve got)
you can also do it in your phone using any file manager
to delete the ROMs you have just go to wherever you placed them in your SD card and delete them from there
use ROM manager to deal with them.
If you have unused backups just go into there and click and delete them.
As far as the ROM.zip files, you can delete them off your SDcard after you flash em.
