Unable To Start HTC Sense...? - HD2 General

Hi all -
Earlier today I had my HD2 plugged in my computer's usb port (just to charge it). Shortly after I unplugged it, the phone screen kept going black. I had to keep pressing a button to get it to come back up, and everytime, about 2-3 seconds later, it would go blank again.
So I turned it off/on, and when it came on, it said "unable to start HTC sense, tape here to try again." I tried tapping, but nothing. I tried changing to windows theme then back to sense, and nothing.
Right now I have the Today screen switched to windows default. I would like to try to get Sense back without a hard reset (I just had to reset the phone a couple months ago). If I can't do that, at least temporarily I would like to solve the phone going blank issue, as it continues to happen on and off.
Thanks,
Luder

Try here..... good luck.. .

yeah... thanks for the link. I tried everything in the previous threads and none of it worked.
is there a way to back up everything to the computer or sd card? I figure I'll have to reinstall everything... which sucks, this phone has let me down twice now in about 3 months.

I've had yesterday exactly the "same" problem, but found out the problem to be CHT 1.8.5...
I unistalled CHT and sense started. Tried restoring a CHT settings from a backup and got back the same problem... So uninstalled CHT again, reinstalled it and reconfigured CHT manually and now all is working...
So my question is: do you have any mod installed?

Just uninstalled CHT and it Sense launched.. Will resinstall/config...
Thanks!

yesterday i had the same issue. i was going to do a hard reset. but i remembered that i deleted some mp3s from sd card and sense crashed when i wanted to open sense music player. after that sense didn't want to start. apparently sense player crashed. unfortunatelly i had player widget on one of CHT screens. that was the problem. i uninstalled CHT 1.8.5, deleted musi player cache from Application Data/HTC/AudioManager, installed CHT 1.8.5 again. sense is working again without problems. i think that clearing the cache would help without uninstalling CHT but i was drunk last night and i didn't think clearly ;]

reboot loop

sometimes when i soft reset my mogul it goes into a sort of reboot loop, it will reset before loading the today screen
i have an app that lets me boot into a "safe mode" with all today plugins, autorun items and nonessential services disabled, however this too reboots (it resets before even loading the today screen, it resets at the wm6 splash screen)
any ideas? i suspect its some app i have installed, just seems weird that it would happen before anything else loads
When this happens, simply remove the SD card and the loop will stop.
Also, it seems that this has stopped if you have the most current ROM.
heh, i never even thought about pulling the SD card *kicks self*
ive been hesitent to get the latest rom because i dont want to reinstall all my apps and tweaks again, especially when i know ill have to do it for rev.A anyway, lol
thanks for the help, nice to see another chicagoan here (im in the south subs)
Did you recently install the HTC audio manager and/or the HTC Home?
Those programs aren't really the cause...there have been reports of users who don't have them installed that had the reboot loop anyways. I have actually had the reboot loop after a hard reset with no installed programs and reg tweaks...

I didn't say they were the cause, I was just trying to run past some programs that are known to cause these symptoms.
To flatout say that they are not the cause is just wrong. There is a combination of HTC home and the Audio manager that'll force the unit into a reboot loop you can't get out of.
So no one has found a cause for this? How would this even be feasible if you have startup programs installed on the SD card? I also wanted to put all mail downloads and attachments on the SD, but if I have to pull it out, WM6 creates a Storage Card folder and my actual SD becomes Storage Card 2. It's a pain to have to delete and rename and such especially considering how often the device has to be reset...
Althought the cause is not exactly known, it has been speculated to be a ROM issue. Since flashing to the latest ROM, I have not one reboot loop, and this has been for a few months now.
Those experiencing this, what ROM version do you have?

This was present in the 2.08 ROM and was fixed with the 2.09 ROM.
I installed the latest DCD rom no programs installed and it just keeps on looping sometimes it stops for a hr or two and than starts looping again
I tried re-installing the original sprint rom but the same thing keeps on hapening
Are you running Spb Pocket Plus? There are known issues by the developers regarding memory, battery, power meters in the Pocket Plus Today Plugin. For more info, go to Spb Club:
http://www.spbclub.com/forum/index.php
I tried everything, I put back the original Sprint rom didn't help. I went back to sprint they tried, coudlln't fix it, I got a new Phone out of the box.
They still have radio 1.32 and Rom 2.09 the blutooth works excellent on this.
I've had to return 2 phones in the last 2 months. My first phone would just freeze up for no reason. I could use the phone for a couple of hours then it freezed. Well the couple of hours soon became a few minutes than only for about a minute. If I took the battery out for awhile then I could turn it on again for a few minutes. It was as if the battery or cpu was getting hot and then freezing up.
The next phone worked good for 2 days and then all of a sudden it just died at the sprint logo. It boots up and shows the rom version with the sprint logo than the rom text disappears and its stuck at the sprint logo. It won't boot any further. It will stay on the sprint logo and the backlight will even go off after a few minutes. Strange... I am about to take this phone back tomorrow.
So far I've had nothing but bad experience with the durability of these phones. Once I get it set up properly it dies... :-(
i got a mogul aswell, nvr happened to me sorry can't help..
I just installed DCD2.3.2-Telus (several times) along with Titan_Radio_3.27.0. At first it worked wonderfully. The second I install anything to do with the GPS though, the system goes into a reboot loop. Actually it even started doing it last night without installing any navigation software.
- Google Maps
- TomTom 6
- Live Search
^^ Those are the 3 I've tried so far and all three have lead into reboot loops. I just flash the ROM again and everything is okay (for a while).
I've also tried running dcd_titan_2.1.0_telus and got the same problem once I installed one of the above Apps.
Does WM6 create dump files like in Windows so I can figure out what the hell is causing this? I want my GPS to work!!!!
After the reboot loops start, I tried removing the SD card as mentionned but it did nothing. Keep in mind I installed the programs to my internal memory.
Update: After flashing the ROM again to 2.3.2, the second I insert my SD card that also triggers the reboot loop.
Update #2: With the stock Rom, it seems to be working fine again. I think it's a problem with the GPS chip itself?
After spending the last few days trying to figure this out, I said the heck with it and contacted HTC to see what they have to say. Will post their reply once I get it. Hopefully there is a fix, because I hate this!! Now, I can't set my Spb Backup to run on auto, otherwise I wake up to the splash screen again....and again.....and again! I get so angry as I wait anxiuosly to see the result, today screen or verizon, and then *buzz*, I'm going crazy!
I had the same problem as you with my XV-6800 using the stock ROM and it always would go into reboot mode unless I ejected the sd card first. I could only put the card back in after it booted up. I also removed two programs from the device's main memory (Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 and a task switcher).
I'm currently running SPB mobile shell and SPB Pocket Plus (for the task manager) and it's working fine now.
The only thing I can suggest is to remove one program at a time and reboot to see if maybe there is software conflict

A Hard Reset will probably fix it, but you will lose everything on your phone, so backup your programs / Personal data first.

just a thought, did you try to first disable touchflo (so you get standard windows mobile start screen) , soft reset and then enable touchflo again?

hi jbrian09,
did you try the hard reset? did it work?
i'm also encountering the same problem with my htc touch 3G phone
same problem here
hi guys,
i have the same problem here. i've tried to deselect Touchflo from today and soft reset and only then re-enable Touchflo, sadly it still doesn't work.
even more frustrating is the fact that this has happened at least 3 times before on 3 separate occasions. everytime it happened it had to backup all my data (Thank God for Pimbackup) and hard reset. This is seriously frustrating, it sucks that HTC would put out a phone that works this badly.
What's worse is that after the first time this happened, I was unable to re-install Mapking because it only works on a freshly formatted SD card.
So i guess in the end all we can do is hard reset the phone everytime this happens. it just happened to me again today and as much as i LOVE the Touchflo interface, I'm giving it the boot.
Probably gonna use something like SPB Mobile shell instead, until I can afford to get rid of this phone and get a blackberry.
This whole experience has really ruined my confidence in HTC phones.

Why don't you try to reinstall M2D, the xda version.
I've used Jade for a year now, never once it failed me. Installing and reinstalling several apps many many times, heavily customised my M2D.... no problem.
Reinstalling Mapking should not requires a freshly formatted SD card. I've reinstalled it, when I accidently deleted it... no problem.
I have problem like this, when i got the phone it was with HTC Touch Flo, when i put my card in it and start the phone Touch Flo disappeared, and now its not even in today-items. Please help me or give me a link to working Manila 2D for my Touch 3g, thanx in advance

touch diamond automatically resets itself?

So after installing Ultimate launcher, I tried to add the htc home plug in, which apparently you aren't supposed to do, and it send my diamond into a stage of continuous soft resets. Device would reset, get to the windows mobile 6.1 screen and then reset again over and over. So i hard reset, and everything was ok again. Then, I tried to install the htc start icon, which was working on my phone before, and it sent my phone into another cycle of resets! any idea why this is happening?
Funny you should say that, I bought another one because mine did that too, but it would HARD RESET after I started in install apps after I flashed a new ROM. It cant be the rom, so not sure what caused it. I left the battery out overnight, then flashed HARD SPL again (it was a different one), radio, and then a new rom, no probs as of yet.
yeah it's really wierd, I Had the htc start icon (same file) in internal storage working on my phone before this happened, and now when I try and reinstall it, this cycle happens. seems wierd after a full reset
Yeah I would install HD Manila and it would happen right away, but after I letit sit without the battery it hasnt done it, I read somewhere it has something to do with Volitile
not sure exactly what that means, but so far the htc icon was the only cab file that made my phone do this again, all the others installed fine. very wierd, it's like the file became corrupt even though it was perfectly fine a couple days ago

Sense randomly died

I've tried a search but only threads with 1000+ replies are coming up and it's impossible to find an answer.
I'm running the latest energy rom and have been for about 3+ weeks. Nothing new has happened on the phone recently, it just decided this morning that sense would not load. I've tried resetting, replacing battery, sim, storage card, red button reset and no change. Must have reset at least 20 times.
Is there a way to fix sense without a hard reset?
something must of been installed, deleted, corrupted
I had a problem installing .NET and CHT which resulted in Sense not loading. Had to do a factory reset (hold volume buttons etc) because nothing would get around it.
Yeah there seems to be no response to dead sense. I've removed the energy rom and gone back to leon
go to all setting, today, and tick sense.

Sense issue

A few days ago I rebooted my HD2 and sense failed to load 3 times then came up onscreen as "unable to load HTC Sense, tap to try again" and as far as I know quite alot of people are having this problem, I have tried disabling it/reboot/enable it but no luck, help? also do you think it might be related to the peep problem?
Me too...was making a call when the phone froze, took the battery out and when i started it again it showed the home screen with T Mobile on it (I use Optus in Australia) and when i turned it off and on again it said "Unable to start HTC Sense..."
Have soft reset it a few times after switching the default home screen and sense in settings to no avail. Hopefully there is a way around this without hard resetting. I couldn't solve the issue by reading the 11 page thread on this from march either..im a newb
please help
i encountered similar problem once. what i did was : if you have cookie's home tab installed, try uninstalling it while having sense disabled. then, soft reset and enable sense and see if it works.
hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply, still nothing though...removed CHT and disabled>enabled sense and still nothing.
takes longer then usual to start and then doesn't prompt me for my pin code and then just stays on my today background.
i can get into the start page and use my wifi from there but cant make calls as it wont recognize my network
Also says .net framework has an issue when i updated that months and months ago ???
very frustrating!
maybe you should back up your data first, then hard reset your phone. It's the only way I'm afraid.
search for "unable to launch htc sense"....
first thread contains numerous fixes, worth trying that before a hard reset....
did everything on the other threads except hard reset :/ just been using android to make up for it but still i miss sense!
Hard Reset fixed it....stayed up very late to fix it, but fixed :S
only problem = xtask doesn't auto run despite having the option ticked
