Title says it all...in the All Contacts Updates tabs it's not showing the option to link all contacts with my Facebook.
It works when I do it manually, but I obviously don't want to go through 250+ contacts and link them one by one.
Anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?
I dont think it's a problem as such, rather just the way it is!
I agree though it's a mission to link them all, and TBH it's not worth it..... I've linked mine and none of the automatic updating of profile photo's, status', or events works unless i press update on each contact manually!!
Others are having the same problem and so far no solution

Works fine for me and I have never updated a contact manually since creating the link.

Same here, and only 2 of mine wouldn't link automatically. 1 of them uses a different name on facebook than in real life and there's no email address for her, and the other one has a double-barreled surname and he only uses the 2nd part of it on facebook.
I've found the facebook integration pretty much perfect and have none of the issues that others have reported. It updates for me on a very regular basis, both status updates and contact photos.
To make sure it works fully, just make sure that your contacts have email addresses that match their facebook account emails. That way, it can match the majority of them with no problem.
Yeah it would be really nice if it could link contacts to facebook itself but that would require that all your facebook contacts have chosen to show their phone number in their facebook profile and allow everyone to see it. That is highly unlikely that all your contacts would do that.
Another possibilty is maybe to enter peoples facebook mail in your Contacts. However, I dont store email adresses in my Contacts.
Therefore you need to link manually. However, I miss a feature to backup the link when you install a new ROM.

That's not true.
Mine have been linked by email address.

I had no problem linking them and 90% of them were found automatically by name ( i do not have email address stored with contact details), it's just the auto update feature that does not work at all

Yeah, but not all people save email adress in their Contacts.
Yeah I just went through and manually linked like 100+ of my contacts.
When I go into each contact's Facebook link page it automatically suggests the correct person to link to. The issue is not that it can't match up the contacts with my Facebook friends, it just doesn't show the option to do it all at once.

Then how do you expect to make the link, based solely on name?

Read my first post - thats why I write it would be impossible to make a link unless the facebook contact has entered his/her phone number and made it avaiable.
back to the OP, was this resolved because I have the same problem, it doesnt show the link all facebook option in the updates and events part, just my facebook profile pic and when i press it it goes to my updates? How do i get this option to link all because i cba linking 200+ contacts?
Mine linked 39 contacts to Facebook automatically and seems to do it by name (since I don't have emails stored for them).
Shame it doesn't fetch any telephone numbers listed on their Facebook profile though.
Mine only did 2 or 3 automatically. What annoys me the most is that the Facebook link only updates HTC Contacts automatically, to save the information to Outlook Contacts you have to go in manually - and this means that when syncing via MyPhone or ActiveSync the pictures and birthdays etc aren't always synced.
And not adding birthdays to the calendar automatically bothers me too.

Maybe not before it became normal to send and receive emails on phones, but it's very common now, so I'd imagine more and more contacts are getting email addresses added to them.
It's the most obvious way to link a contact to a facebook account, after all, it is what you sign into facebook with! And as you yourself pointed out, not many people have their phone number publicly available on facebook, and quite right too!
If they're your friend on facebook then you've got their email address. Just add it to the contact details and it works.
Anyone experience this problem where after u link a particular contact to his/her facebook, the whole phone becomes very laggy when u try to edit the contact info again? Any solution to this?
Hi, I have another problem with FB on HD2. I added some new friends and I try to link them manually but they are not shown in my list for choosing FB link(when I try to edit contact options and link it with FB account). If I start FB client however the new friends are there. Another problem is that I have deleted some friends and they are still listed as friends on my FB client.
Anyone can help?
Cheers
I found a solution in my case.
I had the exact same problem, and then I found that in "All Contacts" if I go to the "Updates and Events" scroll-tab in the bottom I can select to link multiple accounts, and voila - all is well. It even auto-detected all of them:
I cant find that " .. to link multiple accounts"
Nope nor me!
Tried searching but there hasn't been an update on this since end of January.
Picasa fails to synchronize with the Gallery application and therefore does not have access to your online web albums. "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." is the description given in the Accounts and Sync section of settings on all users phones that suffer from this problem.
Not sure if i'm allowed to link here but i will temporarily -- http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=1b2261084660a1d2&hl=en&start=40 -- (and will remove if necessary) to the google forum thread on this but the answers from Google employees are vague and have been for well over the month the issue has been known.
As this wasn't resolved for non US users, does anybody have any updates, work arounds to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance
Did you sign up for a Picasa account After you got you N1? If so, you need to wipe your phone. The phone will sync with Picasa after that. My wife had that issue...and wiping the phone worked.
Hope that's what you were asking about.
Lemme guess, you have an @googlemail.com account rather than an @gmail.com account?
Google are aware of it though, so should get sorted.
EDIT: Which you linked to in your post, d'oh!
Non US user hence googlemail account. wondered if anyone on here had looked into it and found a way / modded the app / created a different version of gallery etc to sync.
Guessing not so far (N)
Surely someone can work around this rather than wait for the update to fix this that might never happen, along with proper non us sat nav (licensing issues, i know but come on already!)
Hi Guys and Girls,
This is my first HTC device and im loving it so far, being a long user for wimo devices, recently come from an omnia i8000, huge improvement going to the HTC, i wont look back.
Has anyone expericened missing email accounts? it still seems to be in the list but its hidden? i can create a new account with a different account name, and it works but is there any fix?
Thanks for your help
Bj,
I experienced the same problem today. However, I noticed that the mail settings had disappeared in addition to the accounts no longer showing up.
The only way I was able to solve the problem was by deleting the mailboxes and re-creating them.
Hopefully there is a better solution found in case this happens again.
Same thing happened to me just yesterday, wonder what's the cause.
Anyway I had the settings backed up to a cab as described here so a reinstall of that set them back up in seconds.
Have the same problem, but my internet settings was lost to...
Any fix for this other than the obe above?
//Johan
I had same misterious problem two times, and I didn't understand why...
:-(
Even I've had the same problem twice..and in addition to losing the email accounts, all my apps which required login like facebook, fring, etc stopped remembering usernames and passwords. Even if I selected save password, it kept asking me everytime is started the app.
The first time it happened i did not notice why, but the second time it happed immediately after a soft reset done using BSB Tweaks after making some changes in it.
I have removed BSB Tweaks for the time being, so will wait and see if it happens again.
the email problem can be solved by going to email- tab --> menu --> account settings (may have another name) --> choose your disappered account. you will notice some of your settins are lost, in my case the mail servers and the username. type in the missing information, and hit 'done', your email acc will be visible again.
Missing Accounts
Same problem after I installed the newest firmware in June. Never happened before, since then TWICE, so it must be the issue of the new FW. Sorry wergor, the solution you offer sucks. Doesn't solve the cause!

Hey,
I found a solution to this problem that I think works. The first time this happened my email accounts disappeared and all of my logins for other things (facebook, etc) also stopped working. This just happened again with no recent mods to the phone, and the only add-on I have is C00kie's Home Tabs (which I didn't have the first time).
The first time I used all the missing settings as an opportunity to upgrade my software. This time I'm on the road and I don't have time to fool with it. Happily I did figure out a way to resurrect the vanished accounts.
As you stated, if you try to recreate the settings, the system will tell you that the account exists, forcing you to create the same settings with a different name. You can probably find your original settings by doing the following:
Go to the settings tab. (Scroll left from your home)
Choose "Data Services"
Scroll down to "E-Mail"
Here you should see whatever accounts you created, even if they don't show up in your email tab proper. Select them and update your passwords (if they're missing, mine were). Everything should look normal.
As I said, I'm on data roam and I couldn't get my OTA download to work where I am. Hopefully when I get back I'll know for sure. Give it a try and I hope it helps you.
Dan
Dan.S - yes, it works, thanks so much. ;-)
It works
Yes, works. In same time, I lost my ability to connect to Facebook. Whenever I try to input name (email) and password, I get instant answer that there is problem with connection. Maybe password also lost. No idea where to find solution.

Hi, I used to use the HTC twitter app in Sense. But from one day to another I cannot access anymore. I get the message "You entered an incorrect username or password". I tried with different twitter accounts but I get always the same error. I also tried to access with email and username.
Any idea what could be the problem?
Thx.
Little information that I bookmarked myself but not conclusive, just know we're done with Twitter apparently. Some help for you maybe is here (won't fix it but explains why you can't access like the rest of us).
Read CFB's explaination on this (Cudos to him again), concise explaination that is apparent throughout the web and Google search:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773&highlight=twitter,+peeps&page=34960
This is just a site I saved (I read here often):
http://phandroid.com/2010/09/01/htc-peep-or-friendstream-not-working-its-oauths-fault/
Have you tried out moTweet, many have gone this way and it is ok comparitively.
Thanks for this information. I was fearing something like this.
Actually I am using motweet since Peep is not working anymore.
Regards.
Not sure how deep your interest is in this but heres CFB's full write up, if you look at his last tweet at the bottom you get good news on recent developments.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101151
Peep is working again. Log out via Settings Tab > Data Services > Log out of Twitter. Then log in the same way. Keep in mind (if you read my posts about it) that this does not resolve the security issues with the application. It still leaves your session open to hijacking, but it does work again.
If HTC does not fix the problem, it will only go out again in the future.
I had 2.2.1 on my phone and ActiveSync worked very well for Email, Contacts and Calendar. It would correctly 'ping' the folders, and go fetch updates when they happened.
Since moving to 2.3.3 with an official ROM (and any other ones I tested) I have always experienced an issue with the Calendar Sync portion of ActiveSync.
Email and Contacts still ping the Inbox and Contacts folders as expected but the Calendar has a mind of it's own.
Even though the Calendar folder is also pinged - it kicks off it's own independent 'Sync' request approximately every minute. And, what is worse is that after every one of these 'sync' requests it also initiates another ping on all folders Email, Contacts, and Calendar.
If I leave Calendar sync selected, multiple parallel ping requests end up clogging the server, and obviously this also has ramifications for data usage and battery draining.
I end up having to disable Calendar Sync for most of the time, only manually turning it on/off to sync any meetings I have set up or have accepted invitations to.
If you look at the attached screenshots, you can see that the date/time of the last update for Contacts is staying the same (09/08/2011 15:25) whereas the Calendar is updating every minute. This is happening even though nothing is changing on the Calendar on the server side.
Is this just me ? Or can other people please confirm that they are seeing the issue also.
EDIT: Well apparantly it wasn't just me - but there are very few people who run into this. Clearing the Email application data completely has cured the problem.
EDIT 23/08/2011:
The problem came back. And my original cure did not work. However, in troubleshooting, I realised that one of my colleagues phone's had also started doing the same - at the same time ! Tracing back I found that I had added a birthday field to one of our shared contacts (that both phones were synching) just before the issue started happening. So, having deleted/re-added/cleared data/etc. to no avail, I simply edited the contact on the server to remove the birthday from the contact and everything settled down again.
To verify the fix, I re-added a birthday record to another contact, and immediately the calendar sync started to spin again. I removed it, and immediately it settled down again.
(NOTE: This ties back to my original "fix" too as I had cleared out any suspect appointments/birthdays/anniversaries/etc during original troubleshooting, but the birthday fields were in non-"ping"ed Contact folders - so the contact records had not been refreshed on the phone until I had done a clear data and reloaded them.)
So, my suspicion is that when Android 2.3.3+ finds a birthday field on a contact it tries to add some kind of calendar event for it (I don't know where this event is, as it does not show up on the calendar as far as I can see.) Every time it asks the server to sync the calendar, it expects the server to have the same event - but when it doesn't find it, it asks for another Calendar sync again.
I also tried the same test with the Anniversary field, but that one did not appear to cause any issues.
Hopefully this will help others.
If anyone else is experiencing the issue, please report back if this fixes it for you.
And, if anyone has any ideas why the birthday field is breaking the sync, it would be great to get a full understanding.
ive been told that this was fixed in JVR
at least some calendar sync issue, do not know if this particular error...
This issue is not fixed in JVR. I loaded JVR specifically to see if it had been fixed, and it has not. I rolled back to stock JVH.
I have seen this issue on every Gingerbread ROM to date.

so i gues he is wrong
ever thinked this might some issue on your site?
or your company server?
btw after a short google search
I was able to clear the client/server conversion error on an HTC Incredible by clearing all the data out of the calendar app using Menu/ Manage Applications. Then re-sync and the problem went away.

The same server works perfectly well with Android 2.2.1, Nokia MailforExchange, and WindowsMobile 6.5 -
It worked perfectly well syncing the Calendar on this phone too while it was on Android 2.2.1 - it was only when I went to 2.3.x that the problem surfaced, and it has been identical on all builds.
Regarding your other post - my phone was recently in for repair and came back completely wiped with a fresh install of the latest Vodafone approved 2.3.3
As soon as I set up the email client it immediately began to spin on the Calnedar again - so it seems very unlikely that clearing data would do anything.
trying it would hurt yes?
well all i am saying it works for anyone around you
you are aware that this version as well as jvr one got updated
maybe it needs updating on server side also to latest idk
try other server maybe
No, I'm not wrong On JVR exchange calendar sync works fine (finally).
Of course you may say that I photoshopped images, or created manually the calendar entry in my phone
Don't get me wrong. It is working for me too. I get all the appointments across.
It is just that the calendar is constantly synching for some reason.
If you look at the account sync options as I showed above, does your Calendar - last update timestamp change every minute ?
I don't use autosynchronization but my calendar entries are updated when I change something in my exchange calendar (currently my last update was around 10:00 AM). I believe it works the same way the email does - by "push". Maybe when using autosynchronization it does this constant updates? What are your email settings? It's also possible that some Exchange setting is forcing constant updates.
Following the suggestion $omator found from someone with a HTC Incredible, I did the following
1. Moved all my appointments on the server to a secondary (non-sync'ed calendar) - this step may not be necessary but I had already begun moving them anyway to see if one was corrupted.
2. Removed my ActiveSync account
3. Cleared the data from the Email application (it was showing that there was still 76K of data associated with it after removing the account)
4. Turned off the phone, and turned it back on again.
5. Added my ActiveSync account back, and allowed it to sync all content (Emails and Contacts - Calendar was still empty)
6. Once everything was settled (including calendar sync) - I moved back all my appointments to my synched calendar on the server.
7. Happy days ! No more constant synching.
Thanks again $omator for the suggestion. I am always nervous about that "Clear Data" button.
happy to hear!
and the fix i was talking about in jvr
is enabling multi calendars sync or something like that
I am using a stock JVR and have this problem as well. I also tried the solution posted but that didn't work either. Any other suggestions?
Found root cause - Contact BIRTHDAY field !
The problem came back. And my original cure did not work.

somewhere there =)
Thank you very much for this find! I too suffer from this problem since leaving 2.1 (i think). To all others: this IS a bug, even in JVR. Just about when you think deleting & recreating your exchange account solved this, this problem tends to raise its head again (sometimes after a day or so). Two independent Exchange servers cause this problem for me. The result is that the Calendar still syncs, but at the expense of a constant 10% load, halving battery life. Its even visible in the sync settings of the Exchange account; the spinning circle icon never disappears indicating the looping process. This has been reported to Google multiple times (search code.google.com) but they dont seem to mind.

I have exactly the same issue with GingerBread on an HTC EVO 3D, I followed your instructions to clear any Birthday info on my Exchange contacts, I will report back in a few days to see if this fixes my problem.
I only started having the sync issue when my company upgraded to Exchange 2010.
We've experienced sync issues on my company (using exchange 2003/2007) after some microsoft patches.... we still have MS engineers working to find what the heck broke the sync but without success...
