How about a thread for little tips and tricks for working this new toy? Has anyone found a way to increase the text size in the calendar? Cant read it without glasses...

If you’ve been using streetview or the browser alot, the cache can quickly get big. I’ve only had the phone for two days and got 20MB back by clearing the cache on these two.

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Streetview > Clear Data
Hold down Menu when powering on goes into safe mode
THIS WAS POSTED ELSEWHERE AND IS VERY IMPORTANT IF YOUR PHONE CRASHES.
Awesome list
getting rid of icons on your home screen
Here's a cool one I just learned. Hold and press the icon you want to get rid of. you'll feel a short vibrate. after the vibration you can move the icon around or delete it by dragging it to the little gray trashcan that appears at the bottom of the page. This won't delete the program, just the icon.
Great tips! Where do you get this information? I would like to
access even more information.
Also, how do you shut down particular programs running in the
background? Thanks.

The easiest way is to:
1. On home screen press and hold
2. when the menu pops up select "shortcur"
3. select the first option "folder"
4. done.
To rename the folder (only cause I didn't understand the first post):
1. open the folder
2. press and hold the top bar of the open folder, otherwise known as the 'dock'
3. type in name and change it.
4. Done.

Create a folder on your memory card names 'ringtones' and place your .mp3's in there.
First, unplug your phone from the USB port, then edit a contact. You should see your new ringtones in the list.
Save pictures from messages?
This possible? I can't figure it out?

I guess I should say that I am trying to change the name of the shortcut icon, not a folder- wasnt really thinking it mattered but it must
Only folders can be renamed

I don't think there is a way to change the name of a shortcut once it's made. Also I think only Any Cut gives you a choice about the name at all.

Download anycut and you can rename any app shortcut as well.
While using the web browser, double tap the trackball rapidly to zoom out with a magnified area. Press again to zoom into that area
music?
When doing the ringtones memory card trick, will the ringtones stay out of the music list? For example
, in the music player app... I am hoping that ringtones will stay out of the music app. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Hey Guys this forum is awesome it is nice and detailed
I Just have a couple of questions regarding the X1
1. Is there anyway possible to completely disable vibrations in the phone e.g. the panel section when you select a panel it vibrates
2. Is there any way to get Microsoft Voice commander to work because when it installs it says "An Unrecoverable has occurred" and it requires me to restart my phone, i have the voice command button as my right softkey. you hear the phone beep and i say "help" but it does not respond to it.
3.Is it possible to hide certain programs from the programs menu as i wish to hide some programs i do not use
4.can you remove the recent programs list in the start menu?
5.In the mediaxperience panel when you create a playlist can you select all of the music you want to add, and not have to go to each song and select "add to playlist" because on mine i have to go to each individual song and add it, it pretty annoying after doing it 20 times.
Thanks for your help
I can get the album I'm listening to to shuffle, but it won't shuffle from the whole music selection - am I being a halfwit and missing something?
Also, for information purposes, I used doubleTwist to transfer the music from iTunes and it works flawlessly, so comes highly recommended from me...
Bring up the list view of all the artists -> then scroll along the bottom to songs -> tap the first song -> then tap the shuffle icon.

Anyone else have this problem?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Nexus 4
Android 4.2.2
Problem: Songs/albums adding themselves to the queue
Instructions:
1. ensure the queue is clear
2. go to the albums list
3. tap on an album
4. tap on a song in the album's song list
- you are taken to the queue screen where all the songs from the album appear
5. tap on another song while on this screen
6. tap on the headphone symbol (top left) to take you back to the albums list
7. now tap on a different album
8. tap on a song in the album's song list
- you are taken to the queue screen, but this time all the songs from BOTH albums now appear
You can repeat this process and generate a massive list of songs in the queue.
NOTE: you have to actually tap on the song selection, using the forward/backward navigation keys will not generate the problem.

Is there anyway to change controls on SPMC as i have 2 things that really annoy me, and if anyone could help me out i would really appreciate it, especially the 2nd problem.
1st (most annoying) - when in Programs -> Android apps, the menu button does not work so i can not add them to favourites which is annoying as i have to use my girlfriends phone remote all the time just for this one function.
2nd - while a video is playing when clicking back it stops video instead of carrying on playing in the background so you can browse lists (useful for music videos and is standard in kodi)
3rd (just remembered) - theres is no option for the 'now playing menu' which means you cant put the playlist your playing on shuffle or repeat at all (frustrating for music video playlists).
I have nearly 1500 music videos and i want to be able to play them without listening to them in the same order everytime and because of the 2nd problem i cant even queue other tracks and do it that way
1. Hold 'Ok' button for a while -> context menu appears (probably does not work with 'A' button on controller)
2. Change Kodi keymap > search keymap on Kodi Wiki
3. Change Kodi keymap > assign 'Tab' (now playing) or 'n' (playlist) to a button you want
koying is now aware of the first problem
See if this helps you:
