Boy, I'd like to turn this off. I charge my phone overnight on my nightstand. Sometime in the middle of the night it will turn the screen on, and stay on, with a message indicating that it is fully charge and that requires dismissal. Maybe someone can come up with a hack.
I think it's quite annoying as well, but the screen shouldn't be staying on from an alert. Are you running "No Lock" or something equivalent?
I also find the pop up annoying, but my phone turns off the display after a while... Leaving the screen on just sounds stupid...
On a Vibrant, using this app-thingy
I too would like to turn it off as it vibrates loud as heck when the alert pops up, and I am a light sleeper!
Subscribe! This notification interferes with my Night Clock and I REALLY want to know how to turn it off!
I have the "stay awake while charging" checked in Settings>Applications>Development
So, once it pops up then the screen stays on.
Yes, this annoys me to no end. I hope they create a setting with future updates. Otherwise, I wonder if the clock / desk dock allows you to turn off the screen without these notifications?
Also, has anyone even downloaded the desk dock app? I'm actually kind of disappointed that the screen won't dim any further. Even on 'night mode' it's extremely bright.
+1 for "I hate it". It's pretty stupid. Samsung needs to make this toggle-able in an OTA update.

curious where you saw a desk dock app?
Go to Android Market. Search for 'Samsung'.
There are two apps that - for whatever stupid reason - weren't included: 'Desk Home' and 'Car Home'.
They look kind of tacky, compared to Google's stock apps. I'd much prefer those, to be honest. But hey, they work. You can voice dial very easily, using the Car Home app. Pretty handy.
Try this: go to Tmobile my account app, select the alerts tab and turn off battery warning.

You are joking, right?....
Its fine to charge the phone while its on just not good to use it while charging. As for the pop up that's to make the phone more "green". Trickle charging can waste a lot of electricity so phone manufacturers put that in there, my Cliq did it too.

i personally dont mind the notification, but i keep my vibrant in the G1 sleeve case that came with it because it fits perfectly in there. my screen shuts off after 30 seconds of the notification. i'm sure in a future update samsung may address this, but until then, its really not that big of a deal, just my opinion
This damn notification is driving me nutz! It is interfering with my Bedside app and freezes my alarm so it doesn't go off in the morning. At least that's all I could link it to.
The battery charge is self managing. So I am not sure why Samsung thought that this popup was even necessary. It is not like leaving the charger connected is going cause any harm.

Yeah, it IS that big a deal. Maybe not to you, but to the rest of us. I use the Digital Clock app and keep the phone awake at night (you can set the screen really dim on that clock) for my alarm clock. Well, while the battery notice doesn't interfere with the alarm it is very bright and just the light wakes me up.
And I like my phone fully charged when I wake up, not down 10% because of whatever sleep processes ate electrons in the middle of the night. Especially since Samsung tried to make an iPhone wanna-be (physically) and made it so slim instead of putting a decent battery in it.

I've been searching around looking for info on this and got nothing. I know the LED is on when the phone is off and charging but why would Motorola not have that feature when the phone is on and charging? Every single phone I have ever owned has had a charging LED. So why not the X? It would be cool if there was an app that could control the colors for the charge LED too.

Does the green LED stay on when the phone is ON and charging or just OFF and charging? Cuz the X has a green LED when the phone is charging and OFF.
yeah, the phone is on and charging and the green led is on. i never turn my phone off anyway
Yep, Green LED def works on Tranq 3.
If you use Tasker, you can set up the LED to come on while charging on ANY rom.

I guess you have to learn how to set it up. It literally does anything and everything possible on an Android phone.
It turns my Wifi on automatically when I arrive home, turns it off when I leave, Sets sync to every 30 mins, saving battery, texts my GF every morning at random intervals telling her to have a great day (Or some variation of that, thats a lifesaver ), turns my GPS on/off for apps that need it, turns brightness to full and auto rotation on when using the gallery, silent boot, silent shut down, reminders, periodic data sync, displays a menu of apps upon plugging in the headphones, and thats just scratching the surface...
I should look into being a Tasker salesman... haha
Some people dont like it because its "hard" to set up, but there are profile tutorials all over the place making it very easy.
I'd say Tasker alone gives me an extra 3 hours of battery life just by itself.
Yeah, I'm not impressed either

I do miss having an LED indicator too... but I wonder if they took it out due to battery life reasons. Is there an app that can help give better indications in case for missed calls or texts that can do a reminder without an LED indicator... maybe even use the LED light on the back of the camera is better than nothing
i would say just wait until someone makes it so it uses the LEDs under the softkeys as notification lights

I don't want to power-on the screen for a notification that may be left un-noticed for an hour.
I didn't really like the idea of NoLED either but I just decided to try it for the hell of it. I use the blink mode and set the time out to 1 hour so if it's idle for an hour the notifications will stop. I've checked the battery drain and it seems to be quite small with blink mode at least (since I'm only having it display the notifications for 1 second every 30 seconds). So really, 2 seconds of screen time every minute, which is about 120 seconds every hour, or about 2 minutes of screen time where it's mostly black and a few lit pixels, and then after that 1 hour it stops.

I tried noled but must confess I never spent any time setting it up so the battery drain I noticed may have been avoidable.
Just to pick up on the above... I'd want the notifications instantly obvious so that a quick glance at my phone would notify me of any messages. Using the above method I'd only see a notification for some of the time and not all.
Lighting up the bottom buttons would be a much better option for me but in the meantime I might try noled again.

to be honest id be more paranoid about burn in , cuz really if i get a text when im sleeping and it goes unnoticed for 8 hours then what
With NoLED you can set notification timeouts, I have mine set to 30 minutes because I always have my phone near me and 30 minutes is plenty. I also have it set to use the Proximity sensor so that if the phone is in my pocket it's not displaying any notification, only when you remove the phone from your pocket and the proximity sensor detects that it's clear will it display the notification instantly. You can also set a "sleep" time for notifications, so I have mine turn off at 2am and turn back on at 6am.
If there is any increased battery drain I haven't noticed it, but then again I don't leave notifications on flashing for hours either.

The notifications move around the screen to prevent any pixel burn-in. You can set them to timeout after a certain amount of time also.

NO!, i fear change!
Have the phone make a sound/vibrate. No need to pick it up.
or download noLED. Problem solved.
I've made a couple posts in the Poor Battery Life on NS? thread( such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10143276&postcount=159) detailing my experience with the Nexus S's battery.
I use noLED as my notification system with large icons rather than the default little dots and no time out method. The only other special thing I've done to it is turn on the proximity sensor so noLED doesn't run while it's in my pocket. My boss likes to do a lot of paperwork in the super late evening/early morning and sends me emails accordingly(this is why I don't leave the sound/vibrate on, lol). noLED's impact on battery life is extremely negligible. I would put it on par with the power with the power consumption of an actual LED notification light due to the way SAMOLED and blacks work.
And, if you're worried about burn in, like someone said, the icons shift around the screen in order to avoid that.

What settings are best for this app and when a notification is received, what are you using to wake tje phone again as the power button causes issues as explained in the splash screen after install?
I'm also seeing all the bottom buttons light up as well as the notification on the screen, is this normal and if so is this not consuming battery unnecesarily?
Seems a tad buggy to me this app on the Nexus S. Would appreciate exact settings / configuration from anyone that has it running satisfactorily.
Well for one, what apps do you guys recommend? Two, the battery is charging REALLY slow over USB only, *iphone didn't have this issue either*, is this normal? Am NOT bagging on this phone just wondering if this is normal lol. Also music is taking forever to sync compared to my iPhone. Third, I have Advanced Task Killer to kill apps, but thats about it. I have wifi off, bluetooth off, screen brightness is a little bit more than quarter on, and I turned sounds and texting vibrations on the keyboard off. What else is there to do to conserve battery life? It's all at stock btw still on MotoBlur, not ready to root yet want to get the feel of the phone first and understand it.
hew your own grave
ps: for the battery charge, you need the original cable and download the drivers from motorola to charge from pc
link
I don't think you really need Advanced Task killer as there is a built in one already for Android. As for battery saving, definitely turn on one of the battery savers for when you are sleeping and don't need it to constantly use data to sync. It saves a lot of battery life. Another thing to do is make sure your browser has the option for plug ins as "On Demand". Putting the display to auto brightness also helps a bit.
Make sure you go through a complete battery cycle or two to calibrate your phones battery. Discharge your phone until it turns off by itself. Then charge it for 10-12 hrs. Do this a couple of times and the battery meter should be calibrated.

Yeah I got that driver, thanks first poster, doesn't seem to help. And I will definitely set plug ins as on demand, thank you for that bit of advice! One thing I am going to complain about is the audio quality through headphones.. They are horrible.. I googled another program and trying something called PowerAmp? I think, and not much of a difference. It all sounds really weird and washed out... I'm just picky with my audio quality, I'm sure anyone else wouldn't see the problem..
Have you tried playing with the audio settings? From the settings, under sound, at the very bottom.

hmm okay thanks guys well I just need to get this battery going so i guess I gotta drain it completely and charge it again for 10 hours for a couple times. I'll start that today asap. the battery drains REALLY fast though.. I think I used it for an hour of web browsing and texting and was killing the apps every 5-10 minutes or so, and I was at like 70 percent already in an hour and 35 minutes.
that's with email off, facebook notifications every hour, brightness less than a quarter up, wifi on, gps off, apps getting killed pretty frequently, and I did get the new update from March 30th, so..
for apps i got advanced task manager(great app for closing background apps), juice defender also helps with the battery, after u drain it, your battery will be fine
My battery life was also awful until I conditioned the battery a few times. I was suspect of that actually working but it made a noticeable difference. Another thing to keep in mind is that the battery notification works in 10% intervals. So, 70% could be more like 75%? I'm not sure how they are actually tracking it, I would hope 70% means between 65 and 75 percent, but the fact that they only made it do 10% intervals in the first place makes me think anywhere between 60 and 80 is possible.

Yeah. I dont like that when I reset the phone it resets my battery statistics but oh well.
I don't think the GPS takes THAT long in comparison to the iPhone's. Then again, rarely use Google Maps for anything but looking up phone numbers, so who knows.
As for battery life.... how many widgets do you use? If you've got a couple, as i know the Atrix came stock with, they'll kill the battery REALLY quick. Think the first day i had it, it basically drained well over 20%/hr. Pretty much the only widgets i have now are the Circle Battery Widget, Google Voice, and Google Search.... plus the ones to shut off things like wifi, GPS, and adjust brightness and such. Unplugged my phone at 9:30AM..... now at 5:30PM it still has 74%.
Using the Android task manager and adding apps to the auto-close list helps a lot too, and doesn't really seem to require you to manually end them quite as often.
As for charging.... you using a USB cable connected to your computer, or just the provided wall adapter? If you're using your computer to charge it, the Motorola drivers help, as well as (from what i've found) going into the notification pane where it tells you that the USB cable is connected, and changing the USB connection to None.... as in not to sync nor as a mass storage device. Seems like that way it's not trying to access the phone as the phone is trying to charge, which might be causing it to charge slower.
And.... in regards to the sound quality.... are you using a nice set of headphones/earbuds, or are you using the Apple ones? IMHO.... no offense to Apple.... but their earbuds absolutely suck. And, to be honest, i've never really been thrilled by the audio quality from my iPhone 4 and 3GS when i had them. If you are using the Apple earbuds, i'd say try finding a nicer pair. I usually recommend just about anything from Sennheiser. Awesome quality noise cancelling earbuds. Actually listening to music on my Atrix while typing this on my computer, and i can't even hear thekeys as i'm typing, even with only one notch of volume from the bottom.
But yea.... i don't see how people can use Apple's earbuds.....

Hi guys,
Just want to confirm with you that alarm doesn't work when phone is off. To me this is so stupid that I can't believe this is called "smart" phone. How come my prehistoric Nokia can do that?
It's so annoying to keep phone on all night for absolutely no reason, just for a sake of having alarm buzz in about 8 hours. Is this the same case with Android and iPhone?
Should your computer check for emails when it's turned off?
This is why android has deep sleep.

It depends what you mean by 'off'. If you mean a single short press of the power button (which actually puts the phone in Sleep mode), then, at least on my LGQ, the alarm goes off as I would expect. No probs.
If, however, you mean powered down via a long press of the power key and the display of the 'Goodbye' message, then you are truly turning off all functions of the phone and yes, the alarms would be shut off as well.
If you are putting the phone in sleep mode and the alarms are not working, I would try a soft reset of the phone, and if that doesn't fix it, maybe try a full reset then slowing adding applications to see if one is interfering with the alarm function.

Hi guys,
Just want to confirm with you that alarm doesn't work when phone is off.

Smart phones are not meant to be turned off. The standby mode is for putting the phone to sleep, all apps go into dormant so that very little power is needed to keep the phone and messaging system functioning. If you do not want to be bothered at night by phone calls and messaging, then put the phone on silent (no sound, no vibration). The clock and alarm will still functions, and even though you put the phone into silent mode, the phone is smart enough to still sound the alarm to wake you up. I hope that this will help you.
Yup, by "off" I meant turning the phone off with long press. I'm aware I can turn phone to silent and still have alarm work but that's not convenient because I have to do reverse in the morning. Second, and more important is that while it's on the stand by phone is still checking towers for signal, waiting for a phone call, wifi is still working and phone is checking emails, etc. It's just completely unnecessary battery drain just for a privilege of having alarm sound in the morning.
My old Nokia would sound alarm when it's off and ask me if I want to turn the phone on so I was expecting the same from much smarter phone.
Does anyone know if Android or iPhone work the same way? Anyways, I'll check tomorrow morning with my colleagues. I'm eager to learn if this is WP behavior only because then I could expect update to solve the problem.

What you are describing seems to be a function of just Nokia phone, I have never seen this on any phone that I have. You are wrong about standby, it uses very little battery and all data are shut down. I have an android phone and off is off just like this LG quantum. I believe iPhone is the same. Like I said smart phone are not meant to be turned off.
@Otnos, I believe you are wrong about the stand-by. When my phone is on the stand-by (not off) I can clearly hear when email arrives on my Gmail account which means he's listening WiFi and checking emails while in stand-by. He's of course also waiting for call and sms so phone is draining battery for no reason. Also, if you set your phone to wireless sync with your laptop or desktop, and if happens they are on, phone will start syncing files even when it's in the stand-by.
I just check with colleague who has Blackberry. He set alarm at 10:47 and when he was powering off his phone he got message "Next “ON” time is 10:47am". I would say that's smart, that's how smart phone should behave.
Edit: Since I have data plan maybe my phone was checking email over 3G, not wifi.
Edit2: There is a feature request for this so if you would like to see this please vote here!

Actually, I suspect your Blackberry friend is also putting their phone in 'standby' mode, since power off means 'power is off' -- nothing is working any more, not even the alarms, etc.
You are right, the radios are still on during standby mode, but at a very low power consumption. If you truly do want to preserve battery by turning off the phone at night, the other option might be an inexpensive alarm clock..

i confirm that many old samsung phones that i had and the very recent samsung star S5230 can do that..specifically you could turn your phone off and the phone was automatically turned on from the alarm..you could snooze or dismiss..i miss that feature too..
the reason is that my battery last longer when i charge my phone while is off..

quite a few nokias do that and even a few LGs but I have yet to meet a Widows phone that would do that.
Shut down means a total shutdown. If alarm rings then there is something going on in background and it's not a true shutdown.
y don't you put your cellphone to offline & battery saver mode !
Thats the way it should be. How would you like if you shut down your phone & it rings in the middle of a meeting or an exam?!
Or when you are hiding in a closet, the husvand comes but your "shut down" phone raises an alarm!!!
Just cuz nokia did a mistake does not means it should be carried forward. Thank God this does not happens any more!

No, Nokia did it right. Android, iPhone etc. do it wrong. There are also lots of people who miss this feature with new smartphones. This was special for Nokia phones that you can totally turn off your phone but it still wakes you up - it wasnt a misstake at all. No battery consumption at nights.

My alarm does work in my Nokia x Android phone when its completely shut down.it turns on automatically at the time when alarm is set and ring ...
"not meant to be turned off" So what happens when you're in the woods with no chargers and need your battery life? Answer that, smart guy.
It's stupid as hell. I have a samsung S390G and the alarm turns on from a complete off. My smart butt stupid new lg doesn't.

An iPhone will turn itself on even if it has previously turned itself off due to low battery to fire the alarm off, and it will blast the alarm off as long as the battery allows it to—or if it is charged, as long as the event lasts. I think it is about half and hour, I really haven't counted the time.
I was expecting this the first day I was forced to switch to Android, I had insomnia that night and I did have to wake up early and ended up falling asleep for half an hour more, thankfully my inner worries were strong enough to wake up by myself, a little late though.

l guess you're not smart enough to know how to read. l wrote "with no chargers" and batteries from chargers also run out. The situation remains as stated, adding different scenarios doesn't change the flaw of the device. Next time read before you reply.

So last night I plugged in my spanking new GS3 for its first full charge. Well sometime in the middle of the night the room gets very bright. I guess the screen comes on to let you know it's done charging. How can I stop this?? I use my phone as my alarm clock so I need it screen side up.

turn it over, alarm clock work by making sound, it will be louder if it is facing down because the speaker is on the back, problem solved.
I realize that I could do that as a last resort, but I could see myself stumbling trying to pick the thing up to shut it off and in my morning sleepiness accidentally dropping it.
Hi -- quick question for you (I haven't bought the phone yet) -- since you didn't mention a noise, I take it that the GSIII does not also make an audible alert when the battery's full (which can only be silenced by putting the phone on Silent)? My Vibrant does this, and it has always bugged me...
How about when you charge the phone when it's off -- does it vibrate and light up with a "battery full" alert? (That vibration alone can sometimes be enough to wake me up.) Thanks!

i am sure after some time with custom development such an option could be there.....
Only the green light comes on when mine finishes charging. Maybe there's a setting for you to change.

Wait, do you actually get woken up by the light coming on on your screen?
Yeah,it doesn't take much to wake me. I'm diabetic, and it's tough to keep my sugar in check overnight. I'm constantly up and down either checking where I'm at, or I'm low and have to drink something to boost my sugars, or I'm high and have to take another shot to drop it down. Then when I'm high I have to piss a lot. In between I'm trying to get all the sleep I can....I don't need another thing waking me up.
