[B]Xperia X1 Recharging time[/B]

hey everyone , i am having a problem my first recharge session for the xperia when the batter was fully drained was about 9 hours? is this normal ? for the first couple of times , i am recharging my phone through the usb cable from my computer directly ?
Please Advise

I've never charged mine through my computer, only synced. I will say it took very long to charge at first. I'd recommend using the wall charger and charging every night instead of letting it drain all the way.

Wall charger is the best choice, unless u have got a battery charger & patience to take off & put on the battery cover every time.
I doubt whether it is necessary to charge x1 every night?

I also find that using a wall charger gives a much quicker charge time and to my eyes a longer lasting charge... I only charge when it gets down to 20-40% so it could last as long as 4 days... (usually 2)

wallcharger takes about 2 hours till its full.
USB however takes far longer. not sure why but i guess the ma/h used for USB is probably far lower then a wallcharger

Yes, USB charging is slower than normal charging as the USB port can provide max 500 mAh, my old K800i on usb charging can arrive max 92% even after 6 hours connected, while on wall charging it is full in less than 2 hours.
And regarding this question, i have another question:
Will usb charging work with any usb wall charger? i leave the wall charger at home, and at work i use USB charging, but a co-worker has a motorola phone with a wall USB charging charger, can i use it safely on my Xperia?

Yes, if you check that Motorola output parameters are the same of our SE wall charger.

Guys i did charge it from the wall charger and it took less then an hour to charge the remaining 50% which is great guessing so its going to take around 2 hours to full charge it from zero , , thanks for the help

I've got a split cable (two usb ports into one) that came with a portable USB HDD. It works faster when charging off USB.
also if you want faster charge time then make sure the X1 is switched off completely.

what i understand the the slower you charge the battery the longer the battery life ;it could stay with you for more then a year with good battery life
on the other hand quick charging the battery will decrease the overall age of battery you are going to change it with in a year or two
i am not sure of this info for cellphone batteries but 100% sure regarding the laptop lithium batteries
please correct me if i am wrong

As far as I know, the asnwer is yes for the first part. The slower the charging time, the longer the battery will last (theorically).
But, the time horizon is not 1-2 years. It is actually longer than that, 2-3 years for cellphones and 4-5 for laptop (own an HP from June 2005, still getting 3h of battery life out of it!).

Hmmm... great idea man... but I am wondering if it could affect the battery. Which is the total mah supplied?! is it less than the wall charger one? that info could definitively chamge my mind about the split cable

1) USB charge is way slower
2) Wall is about 2 -3 hrs
3) GSM plus average usage, 1.5 days of use
4) 3G plus average usage 1 days
what my laptop battery care program does to prolong live is that it maintains a max 80% charge. perhaps this is same for all battery?

Sincerely, it doesn't matter for me. 4 year is way too long and I never had a phone for that period, so I really do not care about it. The only thing I pay attention is to always fully charge and discharge the battery, every time.
Consider that the first bound to a battery life is its recharge cycles. Probably 90% of batteries dies/loose power because of too many charge/discharge cycles, the 10% left for other reasons (fast charge, totally drained power, heat, etc.)

Yes, I use my old Motorola V3i charger to charge the Xperia, no problems.

the website doesn't say much about Lithium-Polymer batteries as opposed to Lithium-Ion which is all over the site. Li-Poly is what Xperia is using. I think you shouldn't overheat the battery when charging because heat will drasticaly degrade the battery life.

Yeh, as a note to some former replied.
Li-Po (Lithium Polymer) batteries need to be kept in check, overheating can make them dangerous and explosive as well as reducing their life cycle.
Which point you charge the battery from with Li-Po does not mattery as long as the correct "conditioning" cycles are completed when new.
Also, as a note, I have once or twice attempted to charge my Xperia from the USB port on my laptop(plugged in) over night, only to find the battery of the Xperia was totally dead the next morning.
The USB ports of my laptop provide 500mA (standard) and the charger for the Xperia is 700mA so not a significant difference, but I guess other things affect the the USB ports on laptop (including Windows 7 having the ability to disable US ports to "save power").
It most probably assume the "device" connected is wasting power and so disables it. Although we want it to charge. Same goes for Windows Vista. This option can be disabled though.

Yes, but wall charging while using connected wifi does heat the battery relatively quickly (my Polaris, Li ion, gets vaguely warm, not as obviously heated as the X1 battery)
I've tested this with a new replacement battery - careful overnight charging when new - and similar behaviour still results
This has convinced me that the X1 has a serious weakness, as charging while wifi connected is a long-standing work habit. If the wifi is connected without charging, a usable time of 2-3 hours is all you get (no good )

well the battery is 1500mAh the nexus charged pretty quickly but it was 1400mAh i am not sure how much difference 100mAh will make on charging the battery but that could be a possibility.

Charging with the computer will always be slower, if that's what you're using.

I wonder if its the charger. The provided charger has an output rating of 0.7A. I know some microusb chargers I have seen are rated as high as 1.0A. That could be the difference.

I always try to avoid using the computer to charge my phone. It just seems to take awfully long even plugged into the wall.

We did get a different charger over the i9000, they had a separate USB cable and microUSB wall charger. We obviously don't have that setup.
Some phones have Li-Pol batteries and they have to charge differently. This could be why it's taking so long to recharge.

check a tmobile store or website for the new portable micro usb charger. charges your phone on the go and recharges itself via a usb charger the vibrant ships with or your computer. i got mine and was a lifesaver the other night when i needed to leave my house with 10% charged.

I hate saying this, but: I literally LOL'd from the title of this thread.
I completely agree. Charging takes fuggin' forever. My guess would be that turning the device off helps speed this up, tremendously. But of course, who wants to do that?
That said, battery life has been impressively long, provided you turn off Samsung's widgets. :/

That would be a huge design oversight if a generic charger caused problems with the battery. I'm sure Samsung thought about the user charging with a generic charger.

How fast is fast, iceshinobi?

I have conditioned my battery twice and going from empty with the phone off and pluged into the wall not via usb-pc, took me over 4hrs each time.
If the charger is 0.7 going to a 1.0 would be a huge improvement. The only worry would be the extra heat and problems that might cause. With NiMH batteries quick charging is preferable to slow charging, is this the same for Li-ion?

came here for insight as well, woke up at like 5am, phone was almost dead, 10% battery or so
turned it off, plugged it in to the wall charger and it is now 8am and it is maybe 60-70% charged

with my g1 turned off i can go from 0 to 100% charge in like an hour or so using a USB port. now i know the battery is smaller but c'mon... this is ridiculous.

Could it be that the phone just has to break in? When I first got G1 it would take about 4 hours to charge I remember, now a year and a half later I can get it to 80-90 percent in 1 and a half.

The computer USB standard is 100 to 500 milliamp, the USB walloulet adapter (charger) Is 700 milliamp, our batteries are 1500 milliamp and that's why.
USB cables have a certain standards witch includes voltage and current standards.
If you want a fast charger look for a hard wired 1000-1200 milliamp charger with a micro USB connector on ebay.

Interesting...having a 1000+ milliamp charger shouldn't cause heat issues would it for pumping in more juice at a higher rate?

Yet Another Battery Tip

Well... I completely stopped charging my phone with the wall charger and I am now just using either my car charger or USB and i've noticed my phone over the last two days has probably doubled in being able to hold a charge. Today I made approximately 2 or 3 30 minute - 1 hour calls, used the internet approximately 20 times for about 5 minutes each time and used SNESnoid for approximately 1 hour straight and my battery was at 40% after a 10 hour work day, not too shabby. Not to mention I also don't get that annoying 10% drop within 10 minutes of unplugging the phone anymore
I've seen a ton of other battery tip's but I've yet to see any actually say stop using a wall charger all together. Here's to hoping this helps someone

Furthermore, have you tried reseting your battery stats. I mean the initial 100-90 percent drop you are calling to quick sounds like its the fault of bad battery stats. If you need a link to how to reset your battery PM me only because I might not check back to this post lol.

Hmmm... I don't think that USB/Wall would actually make a overall difference in battery life but it could be that it doesn't "idle the charging" when you hit close to a full charge. So you're probably just getting the extra 5-10% that you mentioned.

I know for a fact im getting the initial 10% but I looked at my battery today at 12:40 tonight before leaving work thinking "ahh crap I haven't charged it it's got to be at, at least 5-15% and nope, it was exactly 39%, I was amazed. Talked to a girl for about 40 minutes on my drive home, talked to another friend for 5 and battery dropped to 35%

I've noticed this as well. Days that I've only used my moto car charger, the battery (even the cheap ebay ones) seem to hold the charge better, which I thought was strange, because you would think it would be a worse -maybe equal- change.

That's my theory

This is the case with most batteries, and I thought it was common knowledge with Li-ion. The lower the current you charge with, the better the charge.
Using the higher amperage wall charger lets you hit the voltage peak quicker but, the topping charge will take longer. A lot of car chargers are just as high amperage as wall chargers.
Other things you can do to try maintain the capacity of the battery over the course of its life:
-NEVER let it get hot (whether from heavy usage or keeping it in a hot car or the sun)
-never deep cycle (totally kill the battery)
-try to keep it between 40 - 60% charge for most of its life (Li-ion batteries do not like being at full charge or no charge)
Doing any of these things once will not destroy the battery, but by the 500th charge cycle, you can bet your ass it will.

Sounds like my kind of job! Seriously, I use USB (through a laptop) and car chargers almost exclusively and I have no real complaints about battery life. And by that I mean it gets me through the day, which is all I've come to expect from phones for the past few years. But I did happen to use a wall charger last night, and I have JuicePlotter active, so I did some checking.
Comparing my last overnight charge using my laptop's USB to last night's charge through a wall adapter, I found that the charging was actually faster through the laptop. I see that the charge tends to drop off as it approaches 100%, so I took pairs of points from uniform sections of each plot for my comparison:
Laptop USB:
44% to 82% in 41 minutes = 0.927% / min
Wall:
63% to 91% in 37 minutes = 0.757% / min

Hah, yeah my job is pretty amazing sometimes but I have def quit using the wall charger (unless I absolutely have nothing else around)
As far as for droiddev... this is my first phone where charging it from different devices gives me different results. I don't see where it would be common sense, Li-ion batteries are not supposed to not have these memory leak/hold issues like past batteries. A charge is a charge to li-ion batteries, but not in this case.

Not sure what you mean, but you will get the most life out of your battery by charging it short spurts at a time over USB. Read the article I linked to and you will see what I mean, but you can get the best charge into your battery by slowly ramping up in steps with a low current charger.

T-Mobile HD2 takes too long to recharge the battery

Hello folks, I am very concerned with my HTC HD2 as it takes like over 4 hours to fully recharge the battery. I have got this HD2 from the market here on XDA and it works very good overall, except for this problem when recharging it. I thought it was the charger and I have tried many usb to wall chargers even the the iPhone's 4 one, but nothing has changed.
I have also tried several roms and kernels but nothing has changed on this side as well. I wiped everything and put back win mobile 6.5 T-mobile stock rom, but hey, no difference here too..
I am wondering if there might be something wrong with the phone itself or can it be the battery going in holiday???....
How can I figure this out???
I have downloaded Battery Doctor from the market and it says the battery is in good health, and I get up to 14 hours with a full charge with mytouch 4G rom and kernel rafpigna 1.7 cpu 1.3Ghz OC.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem ??? do you guys have any suggests ???
This problem is driving me really crazy...

Get a new battery, mine only takes 2 hours when completely dead.

Are you using the original HD2 charger? I have tried many different chargers and they always charge at a different rate. It has to be that, not the battery.

Unfortunately it came with its original charger broken and I have never had the pleasure to try with it.. Anyways I am using a charger that has the same specs of the original one, which is the usb charger of the iPhone 4, and yea same result ...
I have downloaded currentwidget from the market and it gets less than 200mA of current in, when it usually should get around 400mA, sometimes the value goes down to 200mA as well, which makes me really wonder the problem might be the usb port of the phone .
Does a broken battery does that as well??

I think it has to do with the charger you're using . When I charge mine I usually see anything from 500+mA to 700+mA on my battery monitor widget depending on how much charge the battery has, and like Segnale007 said it usually takes about 2 hrs to fully charge.

I can't say it's the battery cause you say it lasts you 14 hours, usb port? maybe. Your battery is good for it to last that much (on averge usage of course). It's the different charger that you're using.

The charger I am using its the iphone 4 charger and just like the original one its a 100-240V ~ 0.2A 50-60HZ , which I have no idea about what it means, but I can guarantee u its the same ..
So, what charger do you suggest me to buy?? I wish it was everything except the phone ...

That's your issue there, 0.2A (aka 200mA).
The UK HD2 charger for example, is 1A (aka 1000mA).
To work out the maximum time it should take to charge the battery:
(capacity x inefficiency factor) / charging current
(1230 x 1.15)/200 = 7 hours
(1230 x 1.15)/1000 = 1.4 hours

I am totally ignorant about electricity and stuff like that ...

That charger only delievers 0.2 A which is 200ma , you need at least a 500ma charger, mine is a 1 A ( 1000 ma ) and its quite normal to see a 700 ma rate while charging..

You want a micro usb charger that has an output current of at least 500mA/0.5A
The original HTC ones are 1000mA.
Blackberry ones I've seen are 700mA so they're good enough.
200mA isn't a problem, it won't damage your battery, in fact it will live slightly longer as it's being put under less stress when charging, but don't use your phone while you're charging with it as you'll be drawing more current than the charger can supply.
So for instance, if you wanted a car charger so you could use the phone as a satnav and talk via bluetooth, you'd need a 1A charger to cope with the drain on the battery.

With very, very light use about 55 hrs. That's not extended.

Alright, my dad has managed to temporary fix its original charger and I can confirm there's nothing wrong with the battery and the phone itself. It gets beyond 800mA with the original charger and fully recharge the batter within an hour and half, which is great..
Ok now I have to find a compatible USB to wall charger with the same frequency.
Since its a T-Mobile US HD2 its original charger is american, and since I am in Italy I'd get an Italian standard wall charger. Does the Italian HD2 original wall charger has the same frequency of the american one??

200mA isn't a problem, it won't damage your battery, in fact it will live slightly longer as it's being put under less stress when charging, but don't use your phone while you're charging with it as you'll be drawing more current than the charger can supply.
So for instance, if you wanted a car charger so you could use the phone as a satnav and talk via bluetooth, you'd need a 1A charger to cope with the drain on the battery.

I have the same problem but with Htc touch 2(Mega)-I know that this isn't Mega forum but i couldn't find any solution there,so i write here my issue-.It takes too much to charge my Touch 2 (around 9-10 hours) with the AC power.On the charger its writen:Input:100-240~0.3A(0,3A)50-60Hz,Output: 5V-1.0A(1,0A)MAX.DO I have the same problem,I need to change the charger?Thank you!

Nexus 10 taking more than a day to charge!!

Like the title says, my dad just bought a Nexus 10 and when he was charging it from 20%, it's taken more than an hour to charge to 50%. With that logic, the battery is only charging 30% a day, which means it would take 3-4 days from 0%-100%, and that simply is unacceptable. Is it a defective unit? I know about the Pogo charger, but I'm sure he'd rather not spend $25 on it just to find out it doesn't work.
Any suggestions or ways to fix this?

edit: To make things even sound worse, it only charged 2% in 1 hour and 30 minutes.

All I know is that on mine takes about 9 hours to charge with the original charger. The first time I've charged it from 16% with my Galaxy SIII cable, and it took over 14 hours.

That does seem long. I have the pogo charger and it does charge faster.
Before you buy the pogo, are you using the chargers that came with the N10? When I charge my N10 from a laptop/PC, it does charge slowly. So make sure you're charging with the correct voltage/amps.

I'm having a similar issue since the OTA update to 4.4.2.
I'll try changing USB cables, but I'm not optimistic. I'm tempted to try a factory reset if a different cord doesn't work.

With Wifi on, NFC off, Location set to device only, bluetooth off, screen off, using my Pogo cable I get about 22% charge per hour so from 0% to 85% is 4 hours. Whilst on Pogo if I turn brightness to full and sound full then charge is held roughly flat. I moved to Pogo from the supplied cable as when watching stuff even when connected it was discharging, so now I'm never really out of power unless I stay unplugged a long time (about 6 hours unplugged max on low brightness)

This situation happens when the tablet isn't even on, so certain settings being enabled are not the issue.
And for more info, he is using the charger that came with the tablet, so we've just decided that we'll just send it back and get a new one because the battery is obviously defective.

Have you tried a different cable/charger? AN hour to charge from 20% to 50%? Sounds about right to me. I always switch mine off when charging, I can live without when it' off. :good:

I think clearly a human error in the word chosen explains it.
Instead of "...was charging it from 20%, it's taken more than an hour to charge to 50%. With that logic, the battery is only charging 30% a day, which means it would take 3-4 days from 0%-100%, and that simply is unacceptable."

Ahh, I see. Good call in getting it replaced. I hope you have a better experience.

here are a few points
1) the AC USB come with N10 charge up to 2A.
2) the mini USB limit to about 1A
3) if you use other mini charger, that 1A is even smaller.
4) N10 battery is HUGE comparing to all tablet out there. It will take a long time to charge
Solution: get the pogo charging cable that cost $25 (very expensive and can only use for charging), that will fully charge 2A to your tablet which should reduce the time to less than 4hrs given no other power hog apps running at the same time. It will charge slower if that power hog app running too. You can tell by how warm/hot your tablet gets when running such app.
btw, go look at the disassemble of the N10. That battle makeup most of the tablet. LOL

Agree, BUT once you get >85% the rate of charge intake drops. I can get to 85% in 3.9 hours using Pogo cable, but that last 85%-100% is slower. My battery meter sees one kink 85-90 another 90-95 and a slow crawl 95-100. As the battery is not taking up 2A >85%, all chargers, all cables, will largely take the same 85%-100% but the Pogo cable with 2A input will get you to 85% quicker.
I have moved to a dual 2.1A output PSU.

I know you revised the post but just looked at the link to the PSU you mentioned.
Note that $10 one is dual USB socket but only 2.4A total meaning if it is charging the N10 taking 2A it can only offer 0.4A to something else meaning that other thing can only be something like a phone. More importantly is the opposite if you connect a powerpack USB battery which takes say 1.5A or 2A then your Pogo cable cannot deliver its full capability.
The PSU I mentioned earlier is dual 2.1A both concurrently meaning it can charge the N10 and something else also power-hungry like charging a 2A input or 1.5A input USB battery.
There are PSUs out there which can do 4 lots of 2A concurrent, I didn't get one as they were getting chunky and personally prefer two PSUs, a 2x2A + 1A for total 5A which does my N10, my USB battery (2+2) and my phone (1) concurrently taking two power sockets.
Check the details of specifications of these devices, PSUs and batteries vary wildly.
