[4G] Denver (Coors Field) testing - EVO 4G General

So who all has driven by Coors Field and tested 4G? It was super slow traffic tonight due to construction so I gave it a whirl. Got one bar of 4G and achieved a 2.7Mbps download and .5 upload.
I have not found 4G anywhere else sadly but its good to know that even at such a crappy signal strength, the speed its twice as fast as Qwest's base DSL package.

Nice! I am vacation right now but will check this out when I get home. Woo hoo 4G in Denver!

I've heard rumors that the Sprint building (call center) on Inverness has 4G too but I haven't driven out to confirm or deny that yet...
Here's that address
333 Inverness Drive South
Englewood, CO 80112-5882
If I wasn't so damn tired I'd take a trip out there tonight but maybe someone can confirm or deny this for me.
EDIT: Interesting... download the map viewer app from the Market... It looks like people have confirmed 4G in broomfield near interlocken and also near invesco running all the way from the 5 points corridor of 25 down to santa fe, with a huge bubble over invesco itself. Nothing about Inverness but one I think most people turn their 4G off since it kills battery when its scanning and two, I don't think many would be driving next to the Sprint call center. This app actually tracks your coverage and anonymously uploads your statistics periodically. Pretty neat.

Fantastic, I didn't know this app existed, nice!! I actually work right off of lincoln and i-25, minutes from inverness. While I don't specifically get 4G here in the office, I can drive by there over my lunch break and see if I can't get a signal. Thanks for the tip!

I live in Broomfield and take the Interlocken Loop home from work. I'll be testing this theory after work fa sho

I live in Westminster and can pick up a weak 4G signal at my house, right around 36 and Sheridan.

ok, so I drove by the call center on Inverness drive over my lunch break, and I didn't get jack squat. I'm not entirely sure, however, that my 4G is even connecting at all. Here's why - I normally get it in KC at my house, and didn't when I was there last week. When I was driving back to denver, I had 4G on as I drove on i-25 past coors field, and also didn't connect at all. So, I'm not sure it's not my Evo.
I did update to the latest radio and wimax radio in the hopes that it would help, but no luck yet. I'm thinking about driving up to the 4G area on the map application this evening to do some more troubleshooting. It'd be great if someone else could drop by the Sprint Call center to verify.

I had 2 bars of 4G in the parking lot of Elitches recently. I don't know if there's signal inside the park because I wasn't about to bring my phone into that electronics death trap.

I also went to the Sprint call center on Inverness a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't pick up any 4G either. I sat in the parking lot a good 15 minutes fiddling with my phone to try and pick something up.

Hey guys, I can confirm FULL Bars 4G coverage at Sloan Lake.. I was there Saturday for the dragon boat races. I can also confirm 4G on 6th going west right at 25 and held it all the way to Wordsworth once... maybe 1 to 2 bars strength, usually low.
My typical speeds on speed test app are around 3-3.7mb down and 1mb up.
go hit sloans lake for sure though if you are ever in the area.. I had full signal.

Can anyone offer opinions on whether the speeds I get now when in 4G are what we should expect to see when we go live? Any reasons to think otherwise?

I'll have to try Sloans Lake, but I went up by coors, elitch and invesco and wasn't able to get any sort of signal at all. I was in the big green blob area within the Map app from the market, so I think there's something wrong with my installation of Fresh 1.01. I was running the beta and didn't flash from the previous betas as he said it wasn't necessary.
I have had it before in KC, but not since I came to this version of Fresh rom. Will try to flash and go check again later this week. Bummer.

Sloan's Lake? REALLY? I'm going to meet with my bankruptcy attorney on Monday... she's on 17th and Sheridan... might as well drive the little bit to Sloan's Lake and check it out.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo.... no screeenshots buried was at edgewater condos from 17th by alameda. I got 4g indoors at 4-7 megs per second........ indoors. I maintained that signal from one bar to none to 2 until I passed Broadway when it faded... but the speeds were incredible. However. Battery... pulled it off at 130 dead at 930 with minimal usage. WiFi would have doubled it. This was with the latest radio and wimax....

Okay so more 4G testing today. Seems to run from about Broadway all the way west to Kendall on Colfax and it runs down Sheridan to 6th Ave and then dies around Federal then picks up at 6th and 25 on a new tower... very fast speeds and very consistent and reliable connection. Even while driving around, I got 8megs.
Has anyone else done any testing?

Nothing in Boulder yet. I work right on Pearl, but I drive by interlocken everyday, I'll have to see how it is in traffic.

I still haven't been able to connect to 4G at all since I've been in Denver. I'm not convinced that I haven't fried it somehow. I have updated the wimax radio and updated PRL and profile, and I have also verified that my MAC address is fine, which others had issues with.
At this point, I'm ready to test it, and might drive up that way tonight to check it. the couple times I tested (prior to updating PRL and profile, hoping this might be the culprit) I was driving on I-25 by Invesco and Coors. Should I be able to get 4G while in the car and driving? Otherwise, where is a good place to test 4G that will be on and up at all times? I need a control for my test, ha
Thanks!

I doubt you'd get it just driving by on I-25 (I didn't). I did turn it on to check while AT Coors Field, and a got signal. VERY weak signal (and not consistent), but it was still twice as fast as my fastest 3G Speed Test.
Roll out the 4G! I got my extra batteries.

i got an 8.69 mbps download speed at the Rumbi's in the DTC area. I had full bars

Turned on 4G at work and I got signal. Hampden and Tamarac.
Speed is 3G vs 4G while at my desk at work.

Sprint WiMax 4G Live in St. Louis 05/27/2010!!

Just for fun I thought I'd try out the 4G radio on the EVO while here in St. Louis.
Turns out, it's live!!
Here are some screen shots to prove it!
Had to resize images to fit upload requirements here.

2.1 mbs down?
if so im not impressed... at all
I'm on the edge of the city, and inside, and they haven't announced the launch yet, so who knows how fast it will go. I'll take a drive this afternoon and see if I can get a better signal.

Wow, that's awesome news! I live in St. Louis (Southwest Garden area) and I'm getting the Evo next week, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait too long before getting 4G. I figured it'd probably be later summer before I'd have it, but if your phone is correct, sounds like they've already started installing it. Hopefully it's just the beginning and the signal will continue to get better.
My only concern, I've read somewhere that some Radio Shacks are setting up WiMax hotspots. Maybe there's a Radio Shack nearby that you're getting the signal from? Just a thought, could be wrong. It'll be interesting to see what happens when you venture out in the city to see if you continue to get the 4G signal and if it improves or gets worse.
Thanks for the update! Please keep us posted!

Wow, I wasn't expecting STL to get 4G any time soon. I am so excited that you found this out. I am getting my phone on the 4th, and can't wait to test the speeds. I am in the southwest part of STL, in the boones. So I don't know how well it will work for me.

For some reason I'm getting better speeds on 4G via WiFi hotspot on my Win7 PC. Could be an issue with the speedtest.net app for android or a hardware issue or something.
Anyhow, this has been typical of tests from my PC via 4G hotspot.
4.5mbps
Why oh why must they wait til the 4th to release this phone. All along though, I had a feeling that 4g would be going by yht time the phone was released.
I bet Sprint just started working on it, so it might not be for a while until it's fully live, but it's still exciting that it sounds like it works to an extent. Does the 4G seem much faster than the 3G? Have you by chance tried it near South Kingshighway/Vandeventer/Southwest? or near the Botanical Gardens?
Has anyone tested the Metro East area? Fairview Heights/O'Fallon Area?
hmmmm interesting... I am in STL close downtown and the last couple of days my Hero have seemed much quicker with data transfers. I have no idea if this has anything to do with it but WOW, cool, thanks for the news. I did not expect to hear this at all. I figured it would be some lame excuse why it wasnt hear at the end of June.

From what I have been told, radioshacks just have repeaters in them. They basically just take a weak signal and boost it so it reaches more of the city.
So, WE DO HAVE 4G!!!
God, I can't wait till the 4th, and with the ability to use the sprint hot spot feature for free for a bit, ill be pushing large amounts of data through their network.

I'm interested in that, too, and how 4G will reach a bit farther south, like Belleville.
I'm guessing 4G will blanket the area just fine, but it would be nice to have some actual tests!
4G FULL service near the new River City Casino. Clocked about 3.3Mbps
Detected 4G (low signal) on I-64E at about Hwy 157 in Illinois, but then it dropped and cannot get a signal any further east.
I'm getting 4g signal in my home in Dogtown. That said, speeds aren't much better than the current 3g which is lightning fast on the Evo. I'm getting > 2mbps on it.
Fenton/Gravois Bluffs area is live

4g in miami

Any word on when 4g will be coming to south Florida the guy I got my phone from. It should be out this month or next any news on this tried searching
I don't know about next month, but I'm relying on this as the definitive source of information:
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/cache_carey/2010/03/sprint-4g-coming-to-south-florida-this-year.html
I've spoken with people from Clear and Sprint. 4G doesn't come to Miami until Nov/Dec
Damn. That sucks I'm really surprised to hear that I was hoping. Sooner then that
Just an FYI
I have picked up a 4G signal while driving on I-95 south toward Downtown Miami. This has happenned twice already.
Since I am driving I could not really test it and I lose the signal quickly.
Any new update on this that's pretty cool u got reception that must mean not that far away

I live by flamingo and 595 LOL No signal at my house I will have to try driving north couple miles and see if I can find it, there is a Radio Shack and a Walmart that way so I guess it's possible one of them has a tower on thier roof.
Me and my brother have both picked up and sustained a faint 4g signal right off i95 and the golden glades interchange at our friend house
my wifes father actually works for a company that has a contract with Clear here in Florida. they are actually working on towers on the east coast and yes miami also. he says that because of bad communications and issues with Clear's wimax setup on the towers here in florida, have lead to them having to redo towers and such adding/removing hardware from the towers and doing the tedious setups over again on most of the towers that were already finished. the company her dad works for is actually pissed about the issues that have come about, because they are Clear's issues and fault. his company is having to redo alot of towers for little or nothing because of the contracts that were put into place at the time of bidding. this is all what he has told me and again hes nly hearing this stuff from hear say within the company he works for. but he also knows that Clear/Sprint are very aware of 4G coverage sucking/spotty/buggy at best. my recent trip to Atlanta i seen issues with the service. i believed it had to do more with me being root and stuff that comes with it then Sprint/Clears fault at the time. after speaking with her dad over the holiday i feel differently now. see he really knows little about what I/we do here and he knows more about what the service acts like for "normal users" and from the discussions with hm ive found out that "normal users" have all the same issues we do. even he notes Wimax/4G is a crappy service as of now and he feels like hes setting things up that arent being thought through very well. idk just thought id share. i live in central florida so 4G is a no go for a while for me :/

Miami is on the official list for the Nov/Dec but I have also heard of people finding 4G in Orlando and over near Daytona. Up here you can connect to it but are still unable to use it.
I too live on flamingo and 595 lol...just to day on 595 around nob hill i saw it pop up then go way...the worst is at my work..(ft. laderdale) all day 4g comes in and out in the building im in...i can never actually connect to it it just says its available but when i click on it nothing happens then pops up again a few min later...strange thing is a coworker would put his evo right next to mine and wont pick anything up at all...we know his phone works bc he used 4g in DC a bunch of times...
TLDR
I got 4g notifications in Ft.Laderdale and 595 area but cant connect.
Clear tower climbs
As the last guy mentioned. I work for a radio shop and I was at a tower site where clearwire has been hanging the 2.3/2.5 ghz antennas and samsung base radios on this specific tower in delray. The system there is in test mode as the IP switches on them aren't fibered in yet. When I talk to the tower crew next week I will ask them for more exact ETA's on the tower/building sites they are doing down here.

I live over in East Orlando and I pick up a lot of 4G signal, but it always stalls out at obtaining an IP address. As I head over towards downtown Orlando and the west side of town, there is less and less 4G around. I'm hoping that 4G is turned on soon. It's a bit of a tease seeing the signal and not being able to use any of it

There is already a "4G in Miami" thread on here. There's a lot to read about if you want to find 4G spots here. There are a few confirmed placed in Miami and Broward where 4G is active.

Find out if 4g is coming to your area easily and accurately

I don't know why I never thought of this before, but I'm constantly checking my area on the clearwire website for 4g., and I found something awesome.
The 4g area is always getting closer and closer to my house, only a few cities away, but it's just not here yet.
So I called the number above the map (877) 499-6681) to "ask" about getting clear service for my house. I gave the rep my address, and of course, no 4g. BUT only 2 months away from getting 4g coverage!
So if you want the most accurate answer on when you might be getting 4G service, get it straight from the horse's mouth.
Btw if anyone's wondering what area I'm referring to, it's the Springfield/Holyoke/West Springfield/Westfield area of western MA, so we're getting 4G! WOOHOO!
I think that may just be a standard answer they give... Cause I tried their chat function and this was the response I received.
(CLEAR REP'S NAME REMOVED): We are expanding very rapidly, and you should be able to expect coverage within the next few months.
That does not give me hope.
That map doesnt mean anything to me. Im sitting right in the middle of an area that supposedly has "best clear coverage" right now and cant even get a bar.
Here in San Diego, Ca. Sprint's telling customers that 4G is coming by the end of the year... that's now and..? I hope they're not doing that to sell more phones because they sold my bro' an Epic 4G with that line.
I heard that San Diego was getting it soon, didn't hear/see a timeline though.

Yep. Using Sprint's 4G map I see that I'm blanketed in it, and I rarely can connect at my apartment. The high spectrum of WiMax makes it hard to penetrate through buildings and different terrain. So on paper they can say you should technically get 4G, but you won't.
The funny thing is that even when I go to a Starbucks across the parking lot from a ClearWire retail store, I can't even hold a signal
It's gonna keep being hit or miss till it gets rolled out really widely and there are overlapping towers everywhere.
Yea... but the real question is are they even going to expand coverage in the areas that already have it or leave it as is? In Atlanta we were one of the first cities to get it but its still pretty blotchy as to where you can and cant get service. Im keeping my eye on Verizon's LTE.... they're supposed to be up and running here and have phones out the first half of next year.

LTE is great as long as you're independently wealthy and can pay their overages. According to PC Magazine you can use your piddly cap with their speeds in 2 hours. They have increased the speed to never before seen levels but unfortunately with the draconian caps they have not actually increased your ability to consume data. I am happy I just recently hopped from Verizon because things like that and their continued push for higher and higher prices is going to be their undoing.
Oh wait, I forgot, they're getting the iPhone so they're fine.

Right there with ya ... That map shows me as DARK GREEN at the house ... Good luck getting connected ... Never happens ... But most everywhere I go, I'm good ...
I just checked the map and there is clear service in my street but I still don't get 4g I don't think they are with sprint

Its the same as Sprint coverage... the coverage just isnt anywhere near as good as indicated on that map. I sit right in the middle of two towers.... one about a quarter of a mile to the east and one about a half a mile to the west and get nothing. But if you go right up the street it jumps from no bars to 4 bars in an instant.
Funny thing is... a Clear rep came to my neighborhood advertising their service over here and I told them they may as well turn around. She said we have coverage here... I pulled out my evo and showed her the 4G constantly scanning and she tried to demonstrate with her modem and what do ya know... no 4G.

lol, I bet you made her day. Some people were reporting the last wimax radio upgrade let them get 46 where they previously couldn't. Maybe you will get lucky with the next update. I'm surrounded by cities with it where I am but I'm still waiting for it here.

At least you still have hope. My Coverage future outlook....
i think 4g is overrated. i mean there is nothing i ever use that would require anything faster than 3g. had a friend who went to Chicago and Florida where they had it and he said he didnt notice a difference at all and just used wifi. im sure its faster then 3g but 3g works fine for me.
Hopefully is out by the end of the year

man that sucks, you should call and find out when, it looks like they'll put it in there;
This is what it looks like for me, the 4g Map keeps increasing from the ct side into MA via the CT river:

The truth about WIMAX/clear?

Im letting you know ahead of time that this is a random rant. So I have been wondering what's the real deal holyfield with sprints so called wimax. I read somewhere that wimax really isn't TRUE 4g as it doesn't even max out at true 4g speeds. The most I've hit was about 5mbps. So is it really even 4g? And tmobile hspa + network is that faster that our wimax? My sister comes to my apt in my 4g area and her g2 gets about 6 mbps with her hspa. Why does it seem like gsm has way better data. We all know sprints 3g isn't really 3g its piss poor. If this LTE is supposed to beat out wimax why did sprint roll with it over LTE. I'm thinking sprint wanted to get a **** ton of subscribers so they just went with wimax cause it would roll out way before LTE but I definitely don't think wimax/clear is true 4g. I also heard the clear ceo jumped ship or something lol. If the national standard is supposedly going LTE what would sprint/clear do, will they adopt new technologied in their phones and leave wimax phones out to dry? So the real 4g is LTE and wimax just seems like it should be labeled pre4g, cause I hear LTE will be able to get 10mbps down and 3-5mbps up. That's stronger than most peoples internet eh? I am kind of pissed for paying an extra 10 bucks for 5mbps in a strong area and in my area my 4g hits only about 2. Is sprint going to be the only provider using wimax? The moral of this pointless rant is just to get my knowledge and others about the future/truth of wimax. I just want to understand how this service compares to this new LTE and tmobiles and atts new 4g network. It would be nice just to come in and drop comments on any question asked in this post instead of flame me, or post non sense.
A small search woudl have answered all questions....
First, nobody has a "true" 4G network as no 4G network reaches 100mbps yet. Another thing, Sprint is working on a WiMax/LTE hybrid network, or so it goes. Speed depends where you live. I hit 10mbps easily here in Orlando, some people can't hit above 1. Some goes for ANY network on earth.

Get an iPhone on Verizon. That will solve ALL your issues.
PS. I've hit 12mbit on Sprint's "4G".

Nah I'm pretty happy with my evo I got it late, xmas to be exact but hands down best phone I've ever owned. Just disappointed with sprints 3g because you would expect it to perform but it doesn't. Way to rub in your 12mbps against my 2 lol
I got almost 12 as you can see in my signature.
I hit 9-10 all the time in Houston. Hell I get 1-2 on 3g. And you can bet Verizon will charge for lte.
funny you should mention that gsm is always faster than sprint cdma. i was in denton tx last night for an interview and compared my evo on 3g(running gingerbread with no wimax) and i got 1566 kb down compared to his 447 kb down. denton is a college town but not exactly small. i usually get 2-5 mbps down on 4g but havent tested it lately as i am doin the gb thing
I don't mind... if Sprint goes under because of this failed investment, we'll be able to jump ship without ETFs anyways... no worries. ;P
i get 2-3 on 4g in orlando area it sucks my 3g is 1 m

Yeah I know Denton I took a visit to meet this chick at Texas women college one time I drove all the way from Houston and she was on her rag. Ill never forget Denton. Imagine how my weekend went. Never again lmfao
i live in Miami and the 3G is decent as far as comparing it with that pos "3G" t-mobile used to give me. with tmo i was lucky to get 600kbps. with sprint i get 600-1600 average on 3G, and 2400-5600 average on 4G. and peak 4G speedtest is on my signature lol
I live in Houston and on 4g I get around 8-9.

maybe because there's not alot of people connected to these antennas
You guys all seem to be getting pretty good speeds. Me on the other hand I rely on 3g I might get 1 mbps on a good day and I'm happy.
The server you use on speedtest makes a huge difference as well, try to use one that has an internet backbone near it like Atlanta, DC or Chicago for the east coast. I get maybe 2 or 3mbps on speedtest with a server that is not 30 miles from here yet I get 8mbps on another that is almost 1000 miles away.
WiMAX and LTE are still considered pre-4G atm but it's an actual 4G network, all we need is a firmware update to have true 4G. at&t & t-mo on the other hand will Never have real 4G with HSPA+. btw, I get 8mbps in Orlando and on the east coast near there all the time using the atlanta and harold, ky servers, actual speeds during use vary though.

Sprint better buy clearwire out...not looking good

http://phandroid.com/2011/04/14/analyst-sprint-must-buy-clearwire-or-move-on-without-them/
I agree I've had a 4g device for almost a year now with 4g not even driving distance away...I have to travel about a little over an hour, maybe a little more, to get 4g in the city, they got to do something or have a backup plan...I don't think the kyoceras working...
I though it was Sprint's plan to move on without them? I read an article a couple weeks ago that a bunch of Sprint execs had resigned from Clearwire's board. This was just before they announced (or at least rumors began) of moving to LTE.
Doesn't surprise me that Verizon will have their 4g reaching more customers in 1 year than we have now.. I love Sprint, but, they are behind at&t/verizon for a reason.
I have had an EVO since launch and only used 4g on a brief trip out of town. It now looks like I will be upgrading to another phone without ever really using 4g on my EVO. That's sad.
I guess people thought VZW was lying when they said they'd have their entire 3G network covered with LTE by 2013.
Same here. On a trip to pa I used in pa in a certain spot for about 5 minutes

its not that big of a deal
Clear has been having LTE tests in AZ and the wimax equipment as I understand it will be super easy to upgrade to LTE - then sprint releases the LTE devices and BOOM LTE is everywhere that WIMax Was..
http://www.clear.com/blog/size-matters/
sprint always tries to bring new tech first...
but always seem to fail in the follow through.
What spectrum was that phoenix testing done on? 2400mhz??
What speeds does Wimax have when there's only 1 user on it?
That video seems very promising considering how those speeds were faster than my Uverse.

That's part of the problem - there isn't much coverage and where there is coverage, quite frankly it sucks. I live in Houston and leave 4g off because the coverage is so spotty.

Lol idk I just feel they had a good idea but it wasn't the right hardware to put out with it, you see my point, I will definitely give it a chance but my opinion is no as of right now, I'm just gonna have to wait
I would rather have the expanded backend like T-Mobile has, where a normal 3g phone will pull down 5mbps. 21 mbps down is nice but what would I need that bandwidth on a phone. Embedded in a laptop nice, used in the middle of the country where alot of.people don't even have internet access that would be amazing

After Tmobiles new plan trotting after 2gb of use, I could care less about 4g as long as I'm not throttled. I could eat 2 gigs in a day if there's enough music to download.

It is almost embarrassing how many people have not gotten to use their 4g on their Evo. I went to San Diego from Phoenix and I still wasn't even able to find any 4g connection. I've really enjoyed the rom experience with the Evo, but I was really looking forward to the 4g stuff.
Luckily bay area has 4g. It is amazing how just a few years ago dsl was screaming fast now my phone can blow it away.
I'll be another upgrading to an evo3d without ever really using 4g on my htc evo......4G!

I agree with this, in my area Sprint consistently pulls about 200-400 kbps down on 3G. A friend with VZW showed me his 3G speed test results - routinely around 1500-1700. If I had speeds like that, I wouldn't ever even want or need 4G.
I like Sprint, but man their 3G is very disappointing. During lunch hour on weekdays, I've seen it drop to nearly 50 kbps. It makes me yearn for the days of blazing fast dialup modems... :/

This is what I used to say about T-Mobile where I live in Utah. I average what your friend is getting on Verizon with Sprint's 3G network here.
Speed test sitting at my desk at work right now (about my average 3G speeds, usually a little higher):
