time for some good feedback - Vibrant General

I just wanna post how much I love this phone... yes its got minor issues as all phones will but its great..
I wanted to show some love for the vibrant and post some things I love about it.. This is a no hate just love thread...
I LOVE the super amoled screen, I've stopped people in there tracks by showing them avatar on it...
I love the awesome gpu that handles games flawlessly. Games like Nova.... Awesome. .....
And I also love the HD video it records... very nice...
SO, what do you love about your vibrant?

Agreed. There is a download if the free demo in the Incredible thread. That game looks AMAZING on the Vibrant!
Here is another link from the X forums. Check below in this thread for a mirror download link. This is nit the one I used this morning, but should work the same I think.

Ive been a HUGE supporter of the G1 since the day it came out. I rooted it, changed this and that and in the end I rooted the Vibrant only to remove some of the stock apps.
As it sits I have no need/desire to change anything else. It simply rocks.
Internal Memory - Enough no need to Apps2SD
Video Playback - Common it plays Divx/Xvid as is
Screen - Don't even get me started
Battery - Lasts the entire day
Speed - Zooom, Zooom
TouchWiz, I personally like it now. I know two people with Droids and they both think the way it works is slick and one even wants it on his phone. Sure its kinda iPhoneish, but who cares. My car is carish too like the others on the road. LOL
3.5mm Jack..... woooooohooooo I have it plugged into my home audio and its shaking the house with my sub. I mean common carry tunes around with you and use a regular jack opposed to some adapter.
Its light and fits in my pocket just great. Had it out yesterday and somebody asked is that an iphone and I simply replied "The iPhone wishes it was this phone."

Haha. That last line got a pretty god chuckle from me.

I love the screen, I love the performance, I love the style, heck I even love TouchWiz3.0. Having the 3.5mm headphone jack built-in and lock-screen music controls are just icing on the delicious Vibrant cake.

Yeah I noticed that for the first time today. I thought it was a glitch at first until I realized it was half the CD I was listening to, and was really happy to see it pull down.

This is definitely the most impressive phone ive ever seen.

Been playing with my hero the past 5 days but...

Im now torn on whether to keep it or send it back. I got a brown sim free one delivered on friday morning after.much delibration and hesitation.
The hardware is very nice and solidly built...at least mine was. No gaps or anything of the sort.
Android and sense are both great...love them and I love the market place, which in my opinion is superior to the app store since.most apps are free and policy is less...draconian
I want to keep the device I really do.but its just not polished.enough and i know once the novelty wears off and reality sets in i'll most likely be frustrated when using it daily
I've noticed several issues:
-The keyboard works well for the most part with little lag but the spacebar sensitivity/responsiveness could be better. I still make more errors than I do on my iPhone as it loves giving me a period instead of a space
-During calls there's this annoying hiss that gives me a headache.
-Also during calls, sound gets distorted.if you raise the.volume beyond a.certain point and it makesit impossible to hear the other party properly
-Lags/stutters although mine doesn't seem as bad as others have pointed out. Just 1-2sec lags/jerkiness. However it becomes slightly more apparent when browsing the web and viewing photo albums.
-Finally music playback (which is very important to me) kinda sucks. It stutters even when you're not doing anything at all and sound quality is inferiorto the iPhone, very 'closed', poor 'dynamics', relatively weak max volume and no EQ whichis a big setback as mytracks are all EQ encoded> Now i could get revert to an iPod but that defeats the purpose of.an all-in-one smartphone
Anyway like I said I really wantto.keepthe phone but I wantedto know how HTC handles their updates. Apple is very.much on the ball when it.comes to updates in my experience, they optimize, fix bugs and.add.features so you know you're well covered. Does HTC do.the.same.or doyou have to.suck it up and.live with what is shipped to you
If HTC do it like Apple then i'll keep the phone. Otherwise, it means my switch to Android will haveto wait a while yet
Ps the reason my post reads.funny is because.I'm.typing this from.the device and.going back to fix every error.is a.PITA
Regarding the keyboard, have you tried calibrating it? Press the settings button on the keyboard, -> Text Input -> Calibration tool.

That is a breaker for me. The purpose of my looking into android phone is to replace my iphone because I'm sick of the proprietary media expience ala itunes and the ipod player. I want to just plug my phone via usb into a puter (or copy to SDcard) and play the music or radio show directly from some file manager. Android does this well for, at least it did on the g1 I tested with no lag. An all in one device should be that...the iphone is that, if you can stand going thru the hoops to do what should be simple tasks.
The hero seems like a decent machine but there are one of two things (maybe both) that make it seem like an unfinished product: the interface shouldn't be laggy as it is and we shouldn't have to be fussing with standard widgets to get it to function smoothly as it should. I can see tweaking to make it run better than normal, but "normal" being laggy and "smooth" being tweaked isn't a good start. I don't know if this is the hardware limitation or a coding issue. HTC should have either done more testing on the software side or should have including better hardware specs than the magic since the hero is suppose to be an "upgrade" from the magic. I was about to get a hero, but there are too many mixed reviews to make it worth $600. I wanna ditch my iphone 2G for android and still have a 3.5mm jack at the top of the device...is that so hard to accomplish? Guess I'm holding out till later this year to see what else is placed on the table. I almost got a 288 magic but for that money, I might as well save for a better phone that has the 3.5mm jack.
If you are really that annoyed by it now and know yourself well enough to know that you'll be really pissed later after daily use, I would just sell it now on ebay or in the XDA market place while the selling is good. Sure, you could hold out to see what the software update is gonna do...but without more details on that update you're still risking afore mentioned buyers remorse.

Fair enough if you don't like the phone, get rid of it but if you want your music louder than Hero gives you you're gonna have to start thinking about a hearing aid in the future! At least based on my Hero, which is loud!
PS, I trust you'll change your user name to El Pod once you've gone back?
Have you tried typing in landscape mode with 2 thumbs I find it really quick. the portrait mode does suck a bit. also remember there are new updates coming.

I will admit that I'm quite confused regarding the lag issues. It does not seem to effect everyone and the ones it does effect consider a problem that if it were solved, the phone would be a fantastic upgrade from an iphone 3g or 2g. At times I hear it is just the live widgets, other times I hear it is just the software in general during media playback and browsing. I honestly don't know what to think and would love to have a means to test a hero as it is now. I'm not gonna upgrade to a 3gs...I'm still considering the hero but I'm going to wait for the software update and to see how things process for it on xda. I really see the potential in android and that is where I would like to stay if all works out..but I'm not so clear about the hero. Given my options and my needs, the the lag can be address with code optimization, then I think the hero is the best choice for me at this point. we'll see. if you're interested in selling it, let know price via PM. If you're any where near south central PA, perhaps I could give the thing a test run first if you don't mind.
I had the Hero, I could wait to get it. I was like a five year old waiting for santa! Anyway, bit dissapointed in it so reluctantly took it back and bought a PAYG iphone 3GS from O2.
Installed redSnow to jailbreak, then ultrasn0w to unlock and now i'm using it on Vodafone. Thank god for the iphone dev team.
The iphone just kicks the ass of the Hero all over the place. Music playback, Video Playback.. signal strength... battery....multitasking...everything. And if you think you might miss out on sense UI check this out:

Jailbroken iphone with 3rd party apps is just unbeatable....game over. iphone wins again! Maybe Android next year?
I agree crappy music playback is terrible. speed is OK, quite laggy compared to an iphone 3G but bearable. Apparantly a rom update will arrive soon.
I'm thinking of returning to an iphone as well. No equalizer is like it's 1999.

I'll concede that a JB and unlocked iphone is pretty nice as far as apps and ease of us is concerned but the one thing it needs that it won't ever have is the ability to directly transfer files to the phone and manipulate easily. IE, copy a plain MP3 to the phone and play it in itunes or some 3rd party player without having to sync to itunes. the iphone is meant to appeal to folks that just want it to work and the iphone dev team has designed their stuff to match that philosphy. Unfortunately, the linux on iphone project, which was the great hope of getting android on the device isn't going anywhere fast due to lack of drivers for the hardware and what not. The Hero COULD have been a match but it isn't because it isn't consistently a postitive experience. This is why I'm waiting and am a little disappointed that the hero is in the state it is.

you can transfer all sorts of files uising wifi discover. It turns the iphone into a wireless usb stick. If you transfer an mp3 it'll play it on the phone. Thats what i do. There is al alternative to itunes on Cydia. Even if you couldn't do that, the sacrifice is a small price to pay when you concider the iphone 3GS is just so slick.
Why can't other manufactures achieve what Apple has done here? Did they back engineer the iphone from a UFO wreck in Navada? BTW i'm no iphone fanboy. I've had HTC devices from the first orange SPV in 2003 right up to The Hero. There is no getting away from it, Palm, Samsung, HTC whoever just can't get close to Apple right now.
Have you tried using some better quality headphones? The ones supplied are rubbish and the ipod head phones are well......appalling (sound leakage to annoy everyone aroundyou and poor bass reproduction)!. Get some phones with a high sensitivity and no sound leakage you'll be surprised The biggest thing is that you don't need to crank up the volume for them to sound great and your ears will thank you for it
Noise isolation headphones are recommended (Sennheiser, Shure, Ultimate Ears) for the hero and for all mp3 players.
I'm using a pair of Ultimate Ears Metro Fi 220s

Multitasking? Are you kidding? That's the reason I never got an iPhone, it doesn't multitask at all.
Plus, music playback is crap on all handsets. I'll always have a stand-alone media player because I care how my music sounds so yes, music playback is crap on the Hero but it's crap on the iPod (and iPhone) too.
And sense UI on the iPhone? Not quite. A few icons copied from the Hero but they aint no widgets.
Each to their own I guess though. I used an iPhone and it just wasn't good enough, too simplified for me. I'm quite techy tho so I like the open source of Android and the customisation etc.

If you don't count playing music whilst browsing the web or any other task, and background checking your email / calendar sync... but it sure sounds like multitasking to me
And all because you can't choose other apps to have open in the background dosn't mean it can't multitask 'at all'. And lord just look at the Hero (slowwww/laggggg) as a case point why multitasking might not always be the best way to go about a mobile phone operating system.
I don't know if talking about lag is a valid point as I, and many others have experienced no lag at all, even during intense useage.
Personally, I understand that many people are experiencing lag issues but I'm keen to see what happens with this update coming out soon.
And background processing/multitasking is absoultely vital for a smartphone OS.

Goto Cydia > download "Backgrounder" and multitask as much as you want!
I'm a techy too, but the Hero just doesn't impress. Jailbreak an iphone and become a geeky as you want. Widgets on lock screen and the springboard.
The iphone apps are like a 100 years ahead of android! one day android will be great. Just not today.

Do you really like your Nexus One ?

Hi all,
to all of you who already bought a Nexus One, how do you like your phone ? I've only seen posts with questions, complaints (battery, no Exchange calendar sync, etc), but no one says "wow, this phone is absolutely incredible, I really love it !".
I switched from Nokia some months ago (I was a Nokia fanboy for many years, my last one was a N97) to a HTC Hero, and find this phone absolutely fantastic. My Nexus One should arrive next week, and I'm sure I'll love this phone even more.
What's your opinion ?
the phone, simply is awesome. Granted there are some things that are flawed, but this is hardly something unexpected when a new piece of tech is released. So far all the troubles are software and can and Im assuming will be fixed in future updates. The speed is unmatchable, even with a **** ton of programs running simultaneously. I loaded camera, dolphine, market, default browser, gmail, and that 3d tron light racer all at the same time and the phone acted as if there was nothing there, scrolling was unchanged, processing just as fast as ever. The only serious gripes that I have with the phone is the instability of its 3g signal, but do not fret, this is a software issue and will be patched soon in the future. Also that some of the apps in the market do not yet work with Nexus One, but this too will be updated soon enough. I believe I can speak for everyone on this Nexus one Thread when I say, Google is one of those companies that takes care of its consumers.
Do not believe all the negative press that has dumbfoundedly found its way ruining the image of this phone. There is no phone faster, and there is no phone that is androidier.
-Cheers and enjoy your Nexus One
I dont like my N1, I love it, its so fast and beautiful. It takes great pictures, loads web pages really fast, especially xda, Im posting this from it. Battery life is fine for me. Ive never had any 3G issues, had 3G the whole time ive had the phone. This thing is definitely a beast I cant wait to see what future software upgrades will do.
It's badass.
It's a great phone. Very fast, very responsive, nice screen and lots of features. N1 torch comes in handy!
Definitely not for apple iphone followers. This is a true Geek phone.
Only complaint is Tmobile's 3G network issues, using EDGE for now.
I would like to mention that the Audio quality is very good with my headphones, no noise feed back.
While I did complain in my review, I do like the N1 a lot.
I love it. The OS handles multitasking very well. While a lot could be streamlined, I bought the phone in hopes of future improvement. I have my iPhone 3GS right here next to me. I'm not going back to it.
However, I wish I could find a 32 GB microSD card. All I can find are 16 GB ones.
Let me put it this way.... I have a Nokia N900 (which supports Flash and is a multi-tasking beast) and my wife uses an unlocked and jailbroken 3G iPhone, both on T-Mobile. I bought an N1 on Tuesday and had it Thursday.
After bringing it home my wife (who lives and dies by Apple products) said, let me just pop my sim in and take a look.
After using the N1 for the past two days she has officially declared she is selling her iPhone and keeping the N1 and if I want one I'd have to get another one. Well SHOOOOOOT....
What she likes about the N1 (as compared to an iPhone 3G running 3.12):
- Likes the way it feels
- Amazon Music Store
- Managing Playlists on the Device
- Using any song as a ringtone
- Customization
- Likes the trackball
- LOVES LOVES LOVES the keyboard and texting functionality
- Thinks the camera is quicker then the iPhone.
Her big complaint with the iPhone camera was how it had a slight delay between
pressing the shutter function and saving the photo. Where inevitably the subject would
move during that short 'processing' time and blur or make the photo fuzzy.
Her only dislike:
- Headphones. As we all know HTC has a tendency to pack in very stock headphones which have poor audio quality. She's hoping more third party manufactures will make headphones specifically for the N1. Otherwise she's in the market for a decent pair of bluetooth headphones.
There you go.
And with the promise of Flash integration for the N1 from Adobe coming in the short months she's a very happy camper.

I absolutely adore my Nexus One. All of my friends are iPhone users... went out last night and the Nexus was def the centre of attention. It's not quite as 'refined' as the iPhone but that's what I like about it. It's still super fast and the apps are getting better and better.

Haha. When the n900 stands next to the N1, everyone laughs at it. Not because of anything wrong with it, just because... anything is laughable next to the Nexus One. The iPhone looks like a toy you get for your kid to pretend it has a cell phone. The Nexus One is not an iPhone killer. The iPhone and the N1 are in completely different categories... iPhone is a toy from a previous age. Nexus is a thing of awesome power and functionality, in a design that is, yes, more beautiful than the iPhone, by far. It can't be denied, this is just as slim (slimmer, actually) and sleek as the iPhone, but it actually has some style, versus the iPhone's simple "nothing" look of one giant button. The only thing that the N1 does not make obsolete is BlackBerry, and that's because it, too fits into its own category, an email machine. All other smartphones now look like antiques in comparison.

I will respectfully disagree. I had no problems rooting and flashing the Evo. I can walk up to just about any computer and plug it in and it's recognized. I don't have to load special drivers for it. It feels good in the hand; a solid, high-quality device. The screen, with the right protector on it, is gorgeous. I have Myn's Rom loaded now and it just looks dead-sexy! The Epic, OTOH, I've had nothing but problems with. It feels cheap. There's too much slop between the two halves of the phone. The screen is nice, but to the point of being cartoon-ish(think Simpsons or Family Guy). The micro-usb plug in the top of the phone is just plain stupid! What were they thinking?! Try talking on the phone, in the car, with that thing plugged in! Ridiculous. I had nothing but trouble rooting the phone, then putting Clockwork on it, then pushing and releasing all 3 buttons in the right sequence and time and hoping that the Clockwork Recovery would kick in. I can get it to work 1 out of 10 times. Then there's little support/development for it compared to the Evo. The usb driver really frosted my ass, btw... I could go on...

well ive gotta say personally i love my epic... dont get me wrong I am a fan of Evo and htc in general, but the epic is awesome and just what i wanted... makes me glad i held off on the evo, because initially i intended to get that.
but it sound like a lot of your issue are just personal preference and not actual facts or reasons why the evo is better... If u ask me the both have there flaws and the pluses, so something like where the usb is located? very minor complaint imo... drivers were easy to get and install, but thats just a Samsung thing... i can hate the phone for that...rooting and cwm recovery? i'm not sure what kind if issues u had but id bet ur doing something wrong... Ive had no issues rooting or installing cwm or booting into recovery... all very easy and done within a matter of minutes for me on my 1st try... and this is my 1st android device... so I really cant imagine what kind of issue you could be having. Screen colors and brillance are awesome... ive done everything from watch movies off sd card to play all sorts of games to watching vids and the colors just enhance the experience... but nothing cartoon-ish about them (unless im watching a cartoon)... as far as slop between keyboard and screen? I dont even know what that means... to me the device is very sleek and streamlined, with no wasted space... I love how light and sleek it is.. feels like it was made to fit in the had, and while i may be made of plastic, nothing seems cheap about it to meand it actually very durable... im willing to take that(plastic) hit for the functionality and all the features and sexiness, the device provides while still maintaining lightness and compactibility....
I could rattle off a bunch of thing I think are wrong with the Evo as well... but I wont as its pointless and I recoginize that most of my issues are just a personal prefrence thing...but when u come right down to the specs... the epic simply offers more and and is better otb than the evo was... All i can really say the evo has over the epic at this moment is 2.2 and you had to get an upgrad almost 2 mos after evo was released for that... an upgrade we will be getting soon enough. At that point itll be no contest... (Spec wise at least)

Actually i have had that... but it was mainly my fault because I was android happy when geting the device... download and installing every interesting app i could find... plus storing everything from feature films to games and pics and music etc, bogged the phone down a lot... after the novelty wears off, and learning more about androin and how to appropriatly use it (i.e. not using a thrid party task killer to just randomly kill all apps and process running needed to keep device functioning properly) and after getting rid of apps i dont really use or need ( dont get me wrong i still have a tons of apps and games and such) I havent really had that issue.

Almost as plain stupid as using a phone while driving a car...you have bluetooth headsets for a reason...that said if you think about it..top make more sense then the bottom...mostly if they plan to add addons to the phone like say an IR accessory or a credit card processing accessory..it makes more sense to mount to the top rather then bottom...we are just used to bottom..but after using it on top for a while I can't say its an issue.

You have to remember that the EVO is older so it obviously has bigger community..in a month or 2 epic will catch up...also rooting has also improved to have less problems. I could go on...

There's no point in me arguing with you guys. Obviously, you own the phone and are partial to it. I've owned both, my girlfriend has the Epic now and I spoke of my experiences with both. Based on that, I lean towards the Evo. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I'm sure others will chime in with the same pros/cons.

They're both great phones, separated only by personal preference.
There is no better phone than either the EVO or the Epic on any other carrier because of the 4G radio. Enough said.
love my phone
I would like the Fascinate/Captivate/Vibrant with a 4G radio on Sprint and me living in a 4G area and I'm 100% happy..right now I'm only at about 80% due to the crappy keyboard on the Epic and the inability for me to connect to 4g and me being charged for it.

I've owned both since their respective launch dates. Epic is better.
But who cares. They're both android phones and people love them BOTH. As long as Android has such good phones, it will continue to grow. I don't think any android user should be at another android users throat over who has the better phone.
I do wish that there were FEWER phones to decrease fragmentation.... but what can you do
Can't believe you dislike the keyboard, its why I brought the phone. And sooner or later the respective carriers will prob all have a line of galaxy s phones with 4g radios of some sort.

Thinking of buying an atrix. A few questions first

Coming from an iphone 4>nexus S>Inspire 4G im akin for an atrix. Im just curious about a few things though, im not quite sure if i should give up my inspire just yet.
1. HDMI out - I'd like to connect the phone to my 55" LED TV and watch some netflix, HULU, or even network shows (fox, nbc ect) Is it possible? Or will i need the Multimedia dock for this? Or can i just output straight from HDMI to tv. Also would i need a third party app like PlayOn since Netflix wont play on Android yet? T
2. Quality - As said before i'd be outputting to a pretty awsome TV. How is the quality of the video youve guys seen?
3. Screen resolution - Coming from the Iphone 4 then Nexus S the inspire was great but you can easily notice the resolution, vividness just isnt there with the Inspire. This is a must have for me now. Is the screen resolution really all that???
4. Battery life - Im a heavy user. Im lucky if i make it 10 or 12 hours on my Inspire. Does the battery live up to the hype?
5. Fingerprint reader - Does it work? Is it convenient? Or is it just an add on that nobody really uses (i.e. NFC Nexus S)
6. Motoblur - How is it? Is it possible to install say ADW launcher and replace your home screen entirely?
Any opinions are are really appreciated guys
i dont see you being a custom rom flashing addict,
buy it, atrix is great and address all your problems
blur f---ing is aweful, but putting ADW over it will fix that. i prefer GO launcher personally, but either will do the job.
I had to freeze a bunch of stuff with TiBackup, its just personal, you dont have to do it.
What about netflix via HDMI?
1.Well you can do the hack that people have found now to enable the docks without the docks; all you need is a Bluetooth keyboard.
2. I played one video over HDMI; nothing big, but I did see scan lines but it didn't really bother me.
3. The screen resolution is higher than any other android device and that makes everything smaller and more compact; I liked it.
However the actual quality of the screen is something that a lot of people don't like.
4. Battery life is awesome.
5. Fingerprint reader - I loved using it; allowed me to get into the phone within 2 seconds. However you have to get adjusted to it, there's a certain knack to getting it just right.
6. Just install another launcher. The Motorola Widgets are pretty good though.
Not to mention you can use the motorola widgets on go or adw.. It's a great phone

1- i have seen mods on the andriod development form where you can use the HDMI without the need of the dock. you have to root your phone first
2- i watched videos on youtube " still didnt get my atrix" and i thought the quality is nice. sure it wont be as good as blue ray player hocked on your 55 HDtv, but it will do the job
3- iphone 4 has higher screen rez but small screen. galaxy S has high color but you can see the pixels with your own eyes even if you are half blind
The atrix screen has higher rez than galaxy S. but ofcourse not the same colors. abit less "bright"
4- best thing about the phone. its 1900+ mah. not a single phone came close to it. you will be very happy
5- ita a gimmick. you will love it. its a nice show off in front of your friends to envy you. " my screen will only open with my fingers " but when you are alone. i dont think you will use it . or at least i wont.
6- i dont know why people hate it. i used to have a droid and if its the same thing, then i love it " i dont have the phone yet " its better than the galaxy S skin. and i am sick of the htc skin. plus like other people said, you can others. so that is not a problem
the only problem i see is the locked bootloader. i like to test roms. and i bought the phone but i am hoping i dont regret it for this " giving up roms for good phone performance with dual core Nvidia gpu. and 1 gig of ram. you will never need task manager anymore
i did the HDMI out webtop mod and its great. i watched a youtube video at 480p with no problem, it got a little choppy however when i hit 720p.
The hdmi cable included with the phone will allow you to view any video stored on the phone on any hdmi capable tv. You can also listen to music via the hdmi if you have a sound system capable.
The battery life is great provided you do the common sense disables of software. Check this forum for my battery advice thread.
The phone is great. The finger print scanner is rather functional and works great.
You will be happy

I am also looking to buy it and this stuff was useful information. Thanks!
I have another question. How buggy is the phone in general? I saw the thread about restarts but was there ever a consensus about how widespread and the cause? Are there any other irritating bugs? I'm coming from a nexus one which I loved but would freeze about once a week and require me to remove the battery.

[Q] Use fascinate w/o service as iPod Touch or sell? Case, ROMs, etc.?

I just upgraded to the Trophy and switched to WP7. Love it and not looking back. I miss the slightly bigger screen, a few free apps and google maps/directions, but other than that, WP7 is a winner for me.
Now, what should I do with my fascinate? Is it worth keeping as something like an iPod Touch? Or should I sell it off and just buy a dedicated camera plus mp3 player for that purpose? I'm assuming I could get at least $200 for this, which would get me a nice Rockbox player. I would get an iPod touch, but I'm very allergic to iTunes.
I'd like to use the fascinate (or something else) as an MP3 player and exercise tracker for the gym, offline map use with google maps and HTPC remote control. However, I'm worried because the battery life is utter crap. Is it still that way w/ the cellular radio turned off?
Now assuming I keep it and don't sell it there are some other questions. Which ROM would be best for my purposes? Assume all I need to do is underclock and Voodoo. Still Comm ROM?
Also, having trouble finding accessories. Is there a gym-appropriate case that works well for the gym? Something like a silicone bumper with armband, legband or beltclip/holster? Double duty for around the house would help.
Appreciate your opinions.
the Fascinate is a great music player if you install Voodoo Sound.
Id sell it and get an ipod touch
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
I'm keeping mine and using it like an iPod when the GS2 comes to VZ. With voodoo sound, the audio output of the Fascinate is incredible to say the least. The GS2 apparently isn't near as good with audio, and I know sound quality is pretty crappy from iPods.
Why use it as an ipod if your windows phone is also a great mp3 player? why carrying two devices when one can do all?
sell it, make some money out of it and take your girlfriend out for dinner Lol
Primary phone + gym = don't wanna go there. I love that WP7 has an FM radio and great music, but I view most things I take to the gym as likely to die/disappear/destruct (for historical reasons). Also using phone as a music player for an hour workout guarantees battery failure at a needed point - been there / done that. I like to keep it separate for many reasons. That said, if I get a good enough case, maybe I'll try it.
Additionally WP7 doesn't scobble or support replaygain. I like both. Crossing my fingers that someday the APIs will allow Foobar2000 (or an equivalent) to run on WP7.
I don't like iTunes. Will never get an iPod touch for that reason. If they cut the cord, fine, but if I have to use iTunes that's a dealbreaker. I evaluate a lot of tech and it pains me whenever I have to check something on an iPad because that means installing iTunes.
Dinner for girlfriend is fine, but I'm single at the moment. I don't take a girl on a date and tell her I sold a phone to buy her a Chalupa
Ok, so apparently I need to Voodoo my phone twice now. All I thought I needed was to get rid of that damned Samsung filesystem. Is there a ROM that has this pre-loaded?
Com rom would be great...i get over a day and a half with split time on 3g and wifi, listening to music with power amp for about 4 hours at work, and texting on and . voodoo sound is in kernels, but both that are included withCom rom have it

You can use Winamp and various other apps to manage music on iDevices. Personally, my old iPod Touch easily gets 20 hours of continous music playback (that's likely on the conservative side! I frequently forget to pause my ipod at night, so it'll end up playing ~10 hours, and do that several nights in a row without charging!), while my Fascinate would probably get no where near that amount... Music playback seems to use a shockingly large amount of battery for some odd reason. Either should be more than fine for a couple days worth of work outs without charging, though. There's also definitely going to be every accessory under the sun for the iPod, while the Fascinate will have a tiny handful of accessories (most of which will probably be some generic 'universal' one that doesn't fit quite right and is of questionable build quality).
Also, people keep saying how "great" the sound is from the Fascinate... I doubt with headphones you'll be using at the gym that the claimed difference would matter. When using any reasonably priced headphones, you won't be telling the difference! That's also assuming the audio files you have are of high enough quality to tell as well...
If you're sticking with the Fascinate, I'd recommend sticking with whatever ROM you currently are on until CM7 supports all the hardware you want to use. I'm personally waiting for a fully funcional CM7 before upgrading from SC 2.9.2.
Edit: If your phone is running any ComRom/UKB, you already have Voodoo Sound. Voodoo Sound has been supported in Froyo almost since we started using the kernel source for the Mesmerize back on some version of Super Clean.

+1. For messing with my iPod Touch files, I use CopyTrans Manager, which is free, it is decent and very reliable.
Heh, without the celluar radios on, android devices have a crazy amount of battery life. Using my hero as an mp3 player it would go 2 days before needing a charge with lite use. No reason the fascinate would be much different especially being used as a mp3 player seeing one of the biggest power draws is the screen it's self. I'd just keep it and continue use, you pretty much have a Galaxy S player.
Depending on how much you use the screen you could probably get around 2-4 days use out of it. Cm7 has a feature where you can hold the volume key up or down to skip a song or play the previous one while the screen is off so theres some potential battery savings there if you make good playlists. If audio quality is important to you, this phone + voodoo sound + a decent pair of headphones will provide a top notch experience.
Sent from my kang banged fascinate, bro.
Just for a better reference point for an older iPod Touch's battery life (the newer ones are better), I last charged mine 3 days ago, and have used it the last two nights for somewhere on the order of 10-12 hours each night, totally somewhere from 20-24 hours... and I currently have more than half my battery left. I'll get at least another 2 nights of similar usage before it gets into the red, so I'd figure somewhere around 40-50 hours of playtime.

If you have one of the custom kernels (PBJ, OTB), just download Voodoo Control (free) from the Market.
Regarding battery life, I went out of the country last year, and had to keep my phone in airplane mode to avoid roaming fees. I basically just used it as an alarm clock (no music, etc). After seven days, I still had about 70% battery left. I really wish I had taken a screen shot so people won't say I'm lying. This was on bloated stock rom, btw.
And I agree with your hate of iTunes. The iPod Touch is an amazing piece of hardware, but being tied to iTunes is also a deal breaker for me. Maybe you could jail break it and not have to rely on iTunes?

I use earbud-style headphones. Those present absolutely no difficulties with sleeping I prefer earbuds since they're far more portable than any other style (just shove them in my pocket and go!).

That's not really surprising, the phone should be using virtually zero power in that case. Nothing should be waking it up until the internal timer wakes the kernel, that'll then trigger the alarm, pretty much.

You don't need to jailbreak it to use something else. I mentioned Winamp earlier in the thread, and someone else mentioned another program. There's quite a few that can be used to sync your music, including multiple programs on Linux/OS X as well. Hating iTunes isn't really a good enough reason

I should have said that the requirement to use any program to sync my device is a deal breaker for me. I thought maybe jail breaking would allow a drag and drop (like our phones)
But if it isn't for the OP, I think Media Monkey will also sync an iPod
I personally kinda like iTunes as a music player and the syncing isn't that horrible... but anyway enough about that.
If I was against getting an iPod then I'd keep the Fascinate as an MP3 player. You get to use it not only to play music but you get the added benefit of Google syncing (personally I can't live without calendar, Gmail) and the entire Android Market. Using Voodoo will get you a faster filesystem and awesome sound, and with the appropriate kernel you can configure it for battery life. Without the radio and using wi-fi sparingly you can get some amazing battery life. And don't forget it's got that awesome screen.
If you don't need a camcorder and don't mind limited BT, then CM6 is pretty stable and will be the cleanest and smoothest ROM (MMS is broken too but that won't matter since you don't have service on it). There should be some voodoo kernels for it floating around somewhere in the Development forum.
