So it seems like the Samsung music app isn't compatible with any scrobblers, as far as I know. It's a real shame too, because I really enjoy the lock-screen controls, and it's a fairly decent music player. It's a lot smoother and prettier than the scrobbling-solution that I have in place for now, DoubleTwist.
The response from the last.fm forums doesn't seem to indicate that last.fm will be the ones to apply the solution, and SLS is rather quiet lately. I don't know where to begin contacting Samsung, but Android devs are more likely to get to the root of this.
Anyway, it would be really nice if someone could help fix this. I'm no developer, the best I can do is make some noise or a donation, but I'd really like to see scrobbling support on our Galaxy S music players.
I agree. It would be nice. Although, worst case, when CM6 is released for the phone, I can have the old music player back and scrobbling will work once again
I AGREE! The Samsung music app is pretty slick, wish scrobbling would work though.
just grab the music.apk from CM5.0.8 for the nexus. works like a charm for me, especially since the samsung music doesn't have a desktop widget that works on any of the other launchers as far as I can tell.
Ouch. I just noticed this myself. I wonder if the samsung music player is proprietary...

Forget the stock android music app or Samsung app, checkout the music app "Cubed" (as in cubed symbol). Search for "filipe" in the market. Cool music app, looks great on the Vibrant and it has built in last.fm scrobbling.

Yeah, I ended up using cubed after hearing good things about it on this forum. It looks quite amazing, and works rather well, unlike how cover flow usually end up being useless.

Even though I am wishing Samsung would bring Epic's TW and media player current with that of other Galaxy S phones with release of Froyo update, but if it doesn't, is there another way we could install the Galaxy S media player in Epic?? Can it apk be exported from Captivate, Vibrant or another Galaxy S device and installed on Epic??
Edit: From another thread, seems like Froyo update would bring the Galaxy S player to Epic. Really happy about it!!
We have TW 3.0 and all the stuff that comes with it on Froyo.

Thanks Firon for confirming it. From other's comments, it looks like everything from TW3.0 has finally made it to Epic, except the lock screen and its music widget. I wish there had brought over the dynamic music player widget for lock screen over.

I'm sure everyone has their own opinion on this. They did a huge study on the greatest invention ever. You would think it would be the automobile or the electric light bulb. The invention that won, however, was the printing press - interesting.
MY FAVORITE:
Without a doubt, the greatest Android App IMHO is NANDROID. (Lol, I'm not even sure it is an "app" per se, or just a part of Recovery...)
It is the ultimate Mulligan. The perfect do-over. Ctrl-Z for flashaholics. We can try any new rom that comes along without risking a thing of the setup we KNOW we like.
That's mine, what's yours?
angry birds is mine....it makes the work day go by faster...lol
Pulse. Not only does it eliminate the need for a bunch other apps (Android Central, Engadget, other news...), but it is beautiful and intuitive. There really is no other app that has that level of quality IMHO.
PowerAMP is a close 2nd.

Wow...Pulse is awesome. Thanks for cluing me into it.
Mine are probably:
Angry Birds
Tapatalk
RockPlayer (for playing .avi and .mkv videos)
Winamp
LauncherPro Plus
for me its app brain as it allows you to keep your apps list in a text file to remain consistent from flash to flash.
Pandora Radio. I use it everywhere. While I'm playing Xbox, while I'm driving, while I'm pooping, while I'm eating, plus I use it on every platform.
I never heard of Pulse before. The guys behind this did a great job. Best news app I've ever seen.
For RSS feeds you can't beat Newsrob. Not a fan of Pulse - too busy for me.
My rss reader of choice is Feedr, but app I can't live without goes to LauncherPro plus
Got to agree with th OP on "nandroid"... it was the only reason I rooted in the first place. But like the OP said, not to sure it counts as an app.
With that in mind..... LauncherPro(free), Launcher-X Pro, Switch Pro, mClock and BattStat..... hmmm.... there all just widgets. They court as apps right?
If not.... Mixzing, CardAce: Hold'em and Docs ToGo.
My top twp apps are:
Xiia player - steaming radio, best out of the few available, better than Pandora because IMHO the bit rate Pandora runs sucks ass, sounds like 24kbs mono to me. You can easily find commercial free internet radio like chronix.
Swarm - very nice torrent client.
Facebook! Just sayin'!
I thought pulse was awesome until google reader officially launched the app, I think it's much more functional than pulse though it's not at all stylish, but from a reader I just care about the content, and it's delivered nicely with the reader app.
I have a finite set of apps that I'd call best. As far as making my life easier, Titanium Backup (pro) is just wonderful. I've found myself restoring and backing up apps as I like to flash often. And it restores everything about the app, so I don't have to worry about missing stuff on a restore.
Also launcher pro has helped the convenience of using my phone. I trimmed the screens down to three and have two docks and just use folders so when I use my phone I'm not fiddling around with screens but getting exactly what I need.

Titanium Backup(pro) is number one easily in my book. hell I'm using it right now! I have most of the time around a hundred apps and its made flashing new roms way less painless
I'd say there are a lot of better apps but I end up using Klondike solitaire the most.

Mine would have to be "mikandi"
Sent from the MATRIX... while plugged into my EVO... using the XDA app... from a galaxy far-far away.......
If Nandroid counts it's number one, with Titanium Backup a distant second. Without these two apps there'd be a lot less rooted phones and active rom flashing, as others have mentioned.
TB isn't my greatest app ever pick since its primary use (for me at least) is backing up all apps + data before changing roms, which again I would only occasionally do were it not for Nandroid. To be a truly great app, a program needs to extend the functionality of your phone in a way that creates a valuable new function or enhances an existing one already on your phone, making it a more essential tool in your life and possibly replacing others you currently use.
The first app I bought was LauncherPro. I've tried most of the competition, and LP is the best for my needs. It's awesome but greatest app ever? I have a feeling that many of these features will eventually end up incorporated into Android.
"Pic to pdf" type apps are pretty amazing. Yes, you can do each step individually with other apps and share the same end-product, but in less than a minute I can open CamScanner, create and then upload a finished work order to Google Docs. I purchased CamScanner after trying them all last month, it has the features I need for my job and is already saving me a lot of time.
Final answer: the Google Search widget. Is that cheating? I get access to almost anything with one button press and voice input, from sending texts to maps/navigation to a comprehensive search that searches pretty much anything you want including apps, email, calendar, voicemail, texts, the web, etc. Can anything alse compare?
subsonic is nice too
i was gonna say rom manager.
Hi guys. Since I bought my DHD I was looking for a better Music player - the stock one was ok but i missed some stuff coming from an ipod touch. Then I found this one: PlayerPro, and its even better than an ipod
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tbig.playerpro&feature=search_result
The only thing lacking was SRS/Dolby support so i went on their forums and asked for it. And shortly after that the Dev emailed me and said he was working on it^^ Never happened to me before He's a really nice guy. Anyway so I helped him with betatesting and now this Player has full SRS/Dolby support on the DHD!
And a ton of other features too! Volume buttons for Track next/prev support, Headset controls, load covers from the net, different views, full playlist support and and and and. Even a pretty good video player is on board
I know this sounds like an advertisement and the player costs a little something but i just want to inform. No financial interest.
cheers!
Hehe PowerAmp is good I also like the stock player! I'll download the trial for this program xD
Yeah, playerpro has been my player of choice for ages now. I have tried a few, inclusive poweramp and in my opinion it leaves all others light years away.

PlayerPro is also my player of choice! Great app with lots of potential and nice design
The funny thing is: I came from stock (with Dolby) to PlayerPro on Froyo because of the equalizer plugin which was way better than the PowerAMP one. Then I was going nuts because O2 Germany didn´t release the gingerbread update (build in and powersafing equalizer) - so I made a goldcard and flashed ARHD. (it was definitly worth it!) And now after happily using ARHD + PlayerPro + build in equalizer, SRS is back I´m realy happy, because this enhances my daily music hours even more!
Thank you for asking and helping the dev
I love the player, it's much better then the stock but I only have one complain, that's lack of good integration of music control in the lock screen.

Been using PlayerPro since my HTC Desire. Its great, thanks for the update on the extra sound enhancement, have been using Muiu Music Player since using Miui based ROM for the past few weeks. IMO, PlayerPro has the best album information and album art organisational system, very simple to use...the best part is the super smooth scrolling of the album art...got to get back onto it! =D
Hey guys, has anybody developed a ROM that is completely geared towards music, or does it even exist? I listen to music almost every hour of the day and I love music more than anything, but I was wondering if there was such thing as a ROM that was geared towards music. Meaning, it has a really great music app, and it is all completely integrated within the ROM, like how Cyanogenmod has DSP manager and the volume buttons to change the song, or how you can change the song in the notification menu on ICS ROMs. So basically, are there any ROMs that have a TON of these music related tweaks and has a really good as well as smooth music app?
well with Beats now available for most UI instead of just for Sense, people will have their different opinions. no, there isnt a specific "music rom". but thats where music widgets and themes come in. I listen to a lot of music as well, and my current setup is CyanogenMod 7.2 using PlayerPro/DSP pack (not DSPManager, the one included with the ROM), and no Beats(never really liked it). IMO its one of the best music players, you can tweak the EQ levels to your likings, and has a useful swipe gesture. been using it for months, well worth the purchase
The market has a few apps that may help tweak your sound settings.. Beats is more of a money making thing to advertise the beats headphones.. Nothing to fancy..

Lol...I added beats to the arhd 3.0 port. Now I must say this because I am a music junkie and not because its my port but try Endymion 3.4. It's has beats included and its ok but when you add the beats zip it improves it and its crystal clear. I suggest downloading the equalizer app too. That way you can tweak your highs and lows.

hey, just got a nexus 4, i need 3 particualr apps, anyone recommend some good ones?
1) a note taking program, i've been using the default ios notes on my ipod touch 4g and it's sweet. need something sweet and simple like it, not overly complicated.
2) need a voice memo program, again similar to the default ios voice memos.
3) need a music player that will let me skip or go to previous track by pressing and holding the volume buttons. on ios, i did this with activator and so i need something similar. i don't want to take out my phone on the subway everytime i want to skip or repeat a track
edit: 4) actually i have another question, is there any thing like spotlight search for android? on IOS, the OS indexes everything and so when you scroll all the way left, you just type in the name of the the thing you want to search and it'll show up in music, or movies or whatever. it's very useful. i know google's default search does this, but anything better?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!

a lot of people like catch notes. but i use an app called freenote. its a normal note deal. but it also lets you use a stylus to write whatever you want. and then it shrinks it down and sticks it in a line. it works flawlessly. better on a n7 or n10 though.
as far as voice recorder, there are tons of them in the play store.
if you root and install aokp. you get the features you are wanting for music built into the rom.
Try power amp it supports headphone controls and is the best overall music player I've ever used it has a great ui and lock screen widget

for note taking i recommend colornote. Works well for me.
For voice memo either you can use default voice recorder or use evernote for above and this purpose.
For music there are plenty of apps available. Try them out.
I am sure you will find lots of stuff better compare to iOS.
I know you didnt ask for this but I recommend cerberus. Its like the find my iPhone App. Its great incase you loose it

because i came from IOS? and i love some of the features of it? when you love some features or some apps, you're always going to try to find something similar. human nature. and like someone stated, i'm in the transitioning process.
For note taking, try SpringPad, Evernote, and Catch Notes, then pick your preference. They all have voice memos and back up your information to the cloud so you can access them from a PC, too. I used to use Color Note on my old phones, but moved on for the cloud storage and the better UI of the above mentioned.

its better to have the functionality built in and fast than it is to add apps to do these things and eventually slow down the phone. its also nice to be able to customize the entire experience. from quick settings all the way down to the on-screen buttons. and if you stick nova (launcher in play store) on there... you get full customization of everything in between. along with uber speedy transitions and animations. without slowing down the os.
your phone is made to dev on. it is near impossible to brick. use it for what it is made for and i promise you will enjoy the ride.
spotlight (universal search) is patented. so android cannot do that.
