Factory-reset my Android installation - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

How do I "factory-reset" my android installation? I ask because I want to remove the first google account I added and there seems to be no other way.
Is the my only option to delete all Android files from my SD card and re-copy them?

Delete the file "data.img" in your Android install. While NOT in Android of course. Then start up android again.

Thanks for your reply, that worked!

[Q] Application installation location

Hi everyone
I just managed to boot android onto my HD2 and I'm loving it!
Question though: when i install applications from the android market, where do they get stored/installed? Is it in the SD card? Or on the flash memory of the phone... I couldn't seem to find a directory on my sd card that had all the applications I downloaded...
Thanks in advance!
they will get stored in the data file unless it needs some external access and then it will create a folder on the sd card
oh, do you mean that 1GB data.img file?
so it basically does just stay on the SD card then right?
i installed quite a bit of applications, but the data.img file still seems to stay at the same size..?
Yes, exactly. everything will be stored in the 1GB data.img. Unless you download additional stuffs through or within the application, then the application will create a new folder to store them.
To conclude, everything will be stored in your SD card.
great! thanks!
Installing apps
Since the topic is about installation of apps, i'd just like to ask a question about installing apps. I'm new to Android on hd2 and was wondering if they are cab files to install android apps like in WM. And also if there is, how do u install the apps as we can;'t access file explorer in android
Thanks

Settings > application > open the app and make sure the second block on the right says "move to phone"... if it says that, then you then application is on the SD card. Or you can check the market for one of many free applications
Ok tried that doesn't let me save to sd card, now is that the only way or is there an app for that?

Ok got that I understand but I want to know if there is a way to move the apps that are not highlighted. The ones you can't move is there a app for that.
all apps cannot be moved to the sd card. if you used the method that was explained to you before and its grayed out, but not on the sd card, then chances are it cant be moved! an app has to have that option built into it in order to be moved to the sd card. you can contact the developer and see if the have plans to or to request that option!
Try appmonster it backups your apps if that's what you're asking

The themes should automatically be stored to the SDcard. Are you talking about the "theme setup"?
Yeah their not going to my sdcard okay I will tell you what I'm trying to do. I wanted to get one theme to put on my computer then use that theme to customize it to the way I like it. Would be easier than trying to figure out how to make one. Or if there is other way I'm all ears.
If it won't move to SD card, since you are rooted you can find it on your phone and COPY the folder/file to another place on the SD card, then connect to computer and drag and drop the copied file.

What he said,
But if you signed in with a Google mail account, (which is required to use the market) they should come back if you sign in again in your NAND rom.
i didnt sync anything to google account or backup.
thanx buddy!
Have you tried People -> Menu -> Import/Eport -> Import from SD card?

This post has NOTHING to do with development, and I agree with jose makalolot.

I thought what he had to contribute was both relevant and informative.
Users need to learn that posting in the wrong sections is not tolerated.

Google automatically backs up contacts etc unless you specifically tell it not to, If you did then that was pretty silly.
sorry i didnt post it here on purpose i thought i was browsing the general section at the time( had few windows open)
yes i tried to import from SD card but they are not saved in separate file.
i had the android system on SD card and installed the nand droid before i realized that i didnt really back up any of my data.
all the stuff is still on the card
the whole android system is there i just dont know where they are stored.
i also cant find an option to save to sim card . is there such a feature with this OS?

What I think you can do is to remove magldr flash wondows, boot the android from the sd vard and set it up to sync with gmail. Leave it like that for like 5 or 10 mins, and reflash magldr, and the nand rom, and set the new rom to sync with the same email as the nand one. Let it be for 5-10 mins and you got your contacts back.
Or you can backup your existing nand rom with clockwork recovery, and after doing the whole windows->sd android->sync contacts->imstalling magldr again->installing clockwork, you can recover your backed up rom, and just add the email that you used for the sd sync if different, let it sync the contacts, and you are set.
Its like 20 minz of work, and 18 of them minutes is just waiting.
Good luck.
Edit: sorry for the bad spelling.. was in a hurry and typing on the phone...

Some Questions on SD Card Organization (ANDROID NAND)

Hello,
I'm having some troubles understanding the SD Structure after flashing an Android ROM.
Fist of all, Could someone please explain what's the point on Partition the SD when flashing? I just cant understand... Is the OS Installed there?
i've got a few dir's in the SD (.android_secure , ANDROID , LOST.DIR , tmp)
Why are this dir's in there? Can't I have one dir for all this?
And finally, How can I install all the apps to a single dir in SD? Something like program files in windows.
I just would like to have the SD as clean as possible, but the OS just constently keeps stuff in the root of the SD...
Thank you very much for you help.
Thats normal.. all the phones have this structure.. so its okay!
Instead of touching system's settings, i suggest you create a folder "My Documents" or "My Folder" and keep your files there cause the root is gonna be full of folders and files from android if you're gonna install many applications

Overwrite or new install

I'm loving the CM10 unofficial (SD version by LNE) and see there are various test versions... I've gone with the latest (1.0) and followed all the memory tips, tweaks and SDcard error stuff.... and it's working great - better than the CM7 I have been running...
Question is - when the next version comes out - can I overwrite the files, or do I have to do a totally new install?
Thanks
Chris
That depends on the developer. When he makes major changes he'll probably ask for clean install, whereas when they are just some minor fixes or changes, you probably won't need a fresh install, an overwrite would do.

Yep, what Marvlesz said. If the dev says fresh install, then do that. If not, then just keep the old data.img and you should be good.

Thanks - I found the instructions below elsewhere...
If I have apps on the phone that the developer does not include in the build, then when I copy the data.img over, will my apps also reappear, or will i need to install them again?
Chris
4) Upgrading Android Builds
I always do a clean install i.e let the Android build its own data.img with a clean formatted SD card.
Once this is done then copy your old backed up data.img and overwrite the newly created data.img to get all your info and settings as they were.
Caution: data.img is usually not compatible across different chef builds and its best to start a clean install if you are going to use a completely different build altogether. You can get you settings back by using a backup programme such as Titanium. Google sync will get your Contacts and Calendar back anyway if you have synced it previously to Gmail account.

Yes, Data.img should keep your applications as well as other settings or info.
Just realised, when I copy my SD card to computer there is no data.img file....
How do I create it?

It should already be there, in the Android folder. If you have SD Android and 3rd party apps then there has to be a data.img.

Personally I think those instructions are stupid. I've never had an issue just copying over the old data.img and booting first time around.
