Just got my vibrant today and it auto locks almost immediately. Does anyone have a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

It's under settings->sound and display... 1 minute works great and under the appliactions->Development you can also set it so that it doesn't turn off while plugged into USB (charging). That was a god send when I rooted and put the deodexed ROM on.
Regards,
B
Thanks for the quick reply. Do u know if there is a easy way to keep it from [email protected] all? I would prefer to just lock myself...

Get NoLock from the market.
Yes, nolock. An essential item. I pity all the regular people that don't go on forums with these phones, Samsung and Android are really going to alienate a lot of them. I suppose regular people go for the iphone though so maybe I don't have a point after all.
There is an awesome app called LockDelay that allows you to screen-off your phone after whatever time you specify, and then it will automatically lock it after yet another time you specify.
I HIGHLY recommend it, it really allows you to secure your phone and save your battery by turning that screen off.

Just sold a Vibrant in my T-Mobile store today. My rep was showing the customer hers and the customer asked her opinion, he also noticed I had one (I'm the store manager) so I walked over and struck up some conversation to close the deal. As I scrolled through the screen he noticed the XDA app icon and inquired about it. I gave him a few pointers and explained he should joined because there's a wealth of knowledge to be found on these forums. I've found having that little app installed on my phone, as well as our Android live demos is a nice way to introduce customers and new Android owners to XDA.
stock phone is very good. but after customizing, it becomes a whole different android experience.
Thanks for all the tips... I installed no lock, and set the screen to a min an its doing the trick.
Side note, its amazing that I could make the jump from blackberry an transition to the vibrant, can u think of 2 more different phones.

They are two very different phones, but as someone works in the industry, my opinion is that RIM hasn't helped themselves by keeping the Berry in the "stone age." Don't get me wrong. I understand they still have a strong following and a huge success in the business market, but Android is catching up and can be used just as well if you have the right phone. Glad you made the jump and the transition is going well.
Not sure where to post this but if you use the tethering mod be careful, you might get caught in this. Any tethering mod (including the webtop dock hack i think)

Even the wireless tether for root users app?

Search!
This topic has been covered several times over several months!
There has to be a file that stores tethering info and somehow submits it to AT&T. Is there a way of "freezing" anything collects data on our phones? I honestly think it's BS that I need a tethering plan for the lapdock....It's not like it's a seperate computer. I upgraded my sons line when I bought the Atrix and lapdock and then moved the Atrix to my number and dropped his 4gig tether plan to the 2 gig plan. (I didn't want to lose my unlimited..LOL)

Click the link before telling someone to search - this is a NEW notice from AT&T, posted today, that says they're going to start kicking people off their unlimited plans if they tether "illegally" (what a load of BS).... This is new and relevant, and I just bumped the other thread discussing this because of it's importance!
I don't think you have to worry about this on an android phone. I've never heard or read anywhere where an android user has been contacted by at&t. It mainly applies to iphone and how iphone users can tether using various apps. Android has its own internal routing and assigns ip addresses like a dhcp server where as an iphone (I think) may pull ipaddresses off att's network.

That's funny because there is a thread right above this one in the list where all the people who received letters from AT&T were chatting about it. Guess they were hallucinating?

I have only heard of this happening to iphone users. I tether constantly with no warnings
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
A buddy of mine got a letter and it was because he was using the MyWi app. My wife uses is very rarely if the kids want to download an app from the app store. I think since iOS 4.?, there might something that recognizes when the phone is tethering and how much data was used during that time frame. You can use your phone for an hour from 3-4pm and look at your data usage the next day and your phone notifies AT&T in the middle of the night how much data was used that day... shows up as internet/media net on the bill.
The article is in regards to tethering apps not APN mods and even the article talks about the iphone not android. We seem to be safe for now

All the people who received letters from the other thread were iphone users... If you read the other thread you'll even see where several people told them to stop talking about iphones issues in an android forum. Unless your using an app that isn't baked into the os to share your wifi connection, I honestly don't think you have to worry about this as the method of "sharing" is different from ios.
This thread should be locked down as there is already a continuous one going (duplicate thread).

Funny, I just got the new market pushed to my phone today as well. Running a Desire Z on ATT with CM 7.1... Weird thing is, I have never gotten any market updates in the past...
my market updated after the first launch of the app when i flashed the rooted 2.3 release today.
Market now looks suspiciously similar to a windoz mobile layout ..
hmmmm
I'm honestly not a fan of the new Market. I find that the application is slow/heavy to use... The other one I good just blaze through this one seems like I have to wait.

Agreed. Plus on other devices like the Nook Color (Encore) it has caused all kinds of problem getting access to certain applications. Device restrictions based on requirements has really sucked.
It's just buggy. I updated an app this morning and it still says update, and sometimes the update button doesn't show up at all.
The updated market needs an update.

Were not saying it's not. Were just identifying flaws in it's performance. It's not as smooth scrolling or even loading information/pictures fast as it did with the older version.

This one seems just as quick to me. The first boot takes a bit but its good after the first launch.
I didn't like the market the first time I got but now its grown on me. I thought it was so slow.
Now I cant live without it.
You'll all get use to it, don't worry.
Dave
I'm just using it cause I don't have a choice. My alternative at the moment is to push my app from the online store instead.
Hopefully there will be an other update shortly to address the latency issues and FC that are still quite frequent with it.
Got it pushed to me weeks ago. HATED it at first but have forced myself to like it since were not gonna have any choice but to use it. One thing that is a huge new improvement, is the "new" top free and paid. Cause as we all know the top lists never ever change and are always gonna have facebook google maps and gmail on top. With the "new" sections, you get to see popular apps that now don't have to have over 50000000 downloads to get some exposure

Thanks for the info gonna try it now.
Yup, we have a similar app for Vodafone Romania. Pretty useful
So far so good, impressed with the app. Very very fast.
Does this mean that VF are no longer putting bloatware on their phones and finally listening to their users.
This has been out for ages, I installed it back in July time, doesn't work half the time and its usually out of date.
Beware of this App!!!!!!!
I installed it and its started to connect me to bt openzone which had hardly any signal while my wifi had better and I ended up doing over my limit.
Lot of people seem to complain about this as well.
Also it dosen't show whether you have Bt openzone 2GB in your account which is a fail as well.
I just bookmarked vodafone login and check through there its much more easier
It does that to me aswell sometimes but I have poor BT Openzon signal at home so not so bad, its hand when in town though

Did you share it though, when you noticed it was out? If you did many thanks, if not maybe next time, you discover something useful, new app, you might want to share it on here, as it would have meant me and the other guys who just foundout last week. You don't have to but it helps the community sharing is caring.
Perfect example. I just checked this, today is 28th look at the date.

Lol, well at least now they add it up for you instead of you having to mess about in excel... That's one thing I really appreciate now that I'm with 3, the usage info gets updated within minutes - I've always wondered why this is still beyond Voda's ability.

Guess Vodafone Romania does a much better job with their market app, info is just half a day behind. Would probably be even more accurate as that was the last time i used my phone for calls or messages, so the info shows exactly how much i used.
I've had my first S4 for 7 days. Needed 3 hard resets in the first week - UI freezes, hangs etc. Took it back to Telstra, confirmed bad hardware and gave me a new phone. Second handset has been fantastic - fast, smooth, stable.
Most Samsung features work pretty well - drama shot for junior sports coaching is an excellent idea. Love the fact that I can upgrade storage via SD card, link with Dropbox and can swap the battery for higher capacity if needs be. No need as yet - heavy use and my battery lasts more than 10 hours.
If you experience any interface issues, get the handset swapped: probably just a rare lemon. Thanks to everyone who responded on this thread.
Initial issues: features are unstable (gestures, air view, smart scroll, interface and keyboard hangs).
Now I definitely don't regret this new phone having used many different types over the years (Blackberry, HTC TiTan Windows mobile, iPhone 3, iPhone 4, now Android).
Send it back to Telstra for a replacement

Should be fine. No issues what so ever with mine on Optus - rooted and remove all Optus craps.
Of course it will. When you have all your music, pictures and some data sitting on a slow device (like an old sd card), then indexing slows down (picture gallery, videos, music. map data). Like any IT system, a fast phone will be slowed down by the slowest link - if that bottleneck is the sd card, then it needs to be remediated.
That is the reason why I did not get the S4. To new technology for me to mess with.

Will definitely update the thread title to more accurately reflect my experience with the device. But surely I need more than 3 hours for the device to prove itself??
Flash performance, and SW performance degrades over time, so I'm giving this phone 48 hours to prove it's stable, before changing my mind.
I'm not convinced yet, but at least the signs are positive in the first 3 hours.

Of course I will, once satisfied this was just a bad piece of hardware one-off. But performance degraded over time, I will post updates over the weekend and hopefully change this title to "satisfied" on Sunday (ie 48 hours to ensure it was just an anomaly)

24 hours after exchanging the handset, I must say this one is much more stable and I have confidence in my choice again.Hopefully it continues to please and there's no freeze. 24 hours now of smooth use, no hangups/freezes.
But, the native email app crashes every now and then, only while checking Exchange emails. Anybody else seeing that?
