Hi there guys,
First of all let me say that i still learning all these android-related SW components so forgive me for saying some ... wrong things
Second, let me thank everyone at XDA.. This forum ROCKS =)
That said, maybe you could help me clarify some questions...
I have a HTC Magic 32A with these specs:
__________________________
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
May 8 2009,21:02:32
__________________________
My device is rooted, it has AmonRA-1.7.0 and CM-5.0.7 (right now upgrading to 5.0.8).
My question is, what *Updated* HBOOT and RADIO should i use? What are the advantages?
I think of hboot as something like a BIOS software and radio as an internal firmware for hardware components. Am i right? If i am, than it should be better to keep them up to date!
Could anyone please advice me on this? What versions should i use and where can i get them? =)
Cheers every1!
Phk
Actually there is no benefit from updating them.
An engineering SPL is what you should get, just as an additional layer of safety..but thats all.

Yes, finally i've read about SPL and i understand it: It's a bootloader for bootstraping the kernel loader, and the Eng's version has more functions like nand writing. Anyway, i'm updating to 2010 now just for the fun
But eyegor, tell me, how about the Radio?
Thanks m8
I tried a newer version of 3.22 and it just caused me trouble. Namely, when powering down the phone it sometimes rebooted instead of shutting down and i had to pull the battery...
3.22.20.17 is known as being stable and working well
Ok, i've updated successfuly!
- Backup my SDCard to PC
- Copy 1.33.2010 Eng's SPL to SDCard
- Copy CM6 zip to SDCard
- Boot to AmonRA 1.7 and applied 1.33.2010 file, then Wipe (everything), then applied CM6-v1.2
Awesome! =)
Froyo is running smoothly on my Magic 32A hehe
Album viewer (similar to Nexus one) is just great.. It's cool and it shows our picasa albums xD
Cheers, and thanks

Well this is my first post in this forum and any phone forum ever so.. Wuju!!!...
Ok well Im a newbie as you can see... I have a MyTouch 3g black
Here is my "problem" ...well not a problem but most knowing if im doing the correct thing...
This are the spec on my phone:
Code:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.006 (SAPP 30000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Well I used the 1-click-root from the Unlokr...
And i got in my phone the: "Ra dream v1.2.3"
Until here im all good...
Now I want to put the latest version of Cyanogenmod...
Begore I did it I read in the Cyanogen mod wiki
That I had to download the HTC Android 1.6 base image and also their latest Rom...
So I did...and I wiped the data of the phone formated the SD card to fat32+ext+swap.. Then got the two files in my Sd card...
So my last step should be going to "apply sdcard:choose .zip"
And first install the 1.6 imagr and then the ROM...
The question is:
Am I doing somethong wrong here?
Am I missing to download something else I should flash first?
Did I skipped a step?
Doing this can I have a risk of bricking my new phone?
Thats all thanks ^^
Already did it.. worked perfectly had no problems...
Thanks for the help ...
IF a mod sees..... Delete Please!
Ok, I will admit I am a total noobie with Android based phones. I have been on the Blackberry platform for years.
I just got my magic yesterday.
To my knowledge it has not been updated yet.
How would I go about seeing if it can be rooted? And what is the best way to get it rooted, if it can be?
I am an IT guy, I am not afraid to try things out, so give me some steps and I will do them ASAP.
Thanks!
1st, boot the phone by holding the back & power buttons. Tell us EXACTLY what is on the first 5 lines at the top of the screen.
From there you will know if your phone is rootable...
It says:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
May 8 2009, 21:02:32 .
does this help?
Those specs were the same as mine. I used the Relentless Rooter software to root my phone. It was free then but you now have to pay (you can find it in the app forum).
You can also use the unlockr one click method. Check his site and video. Remember to use the instructions for 32A. Some posters wrote that they could not use this method (flashrec) to flash the latest Amon_Ra recovery and the solution was to shorten Amon_Ra's recovery's name. I know this sounds foreign language right now, but I do suggest you read and research a bit, specially the comments posted under the unlockr's method.
Once rooted, you can find various custom Roms for 32A in the developers section. Make sure the Rom fits your radio and SPL.
Oh, once rooted, I would suggest changing your SPL 1.33.009 to an engineered SPL, like mine (I use 1.33.2010). You can do a search at google or within the developers forum to find out why.
CONSIDER YOURSELF EXTREMELY FORTUNATE, you have a HTC Magic with an OLD non perfected SPL. Hell it isn't even a protected SPL you can load custom roms right away without having to flash a a new SPL.
HTC Magic with that SPL are becoming rarer by the day.
I would look into what ROMs you're interested in, if you want a 1.6 ROM, I would recommend Cyanogen 32A Port or Amon_RA's 1.6 ROM.
If you don't need 1.6 and like Sense UI (I suggest youtubing Sense UI and Stock Android to see which you prefer), CursorDroid's Sense UI ROM is in my opinion the BEST ROM available for the HTC Magic.
Cyanogen and Amon_Ra's ROM will work with your current SPL (I believe). While CursorDroid's requires you to flash the SPL and Radio of your phone. Which is a bit intimidating for novices but if your well prepared and pay close attention to instructions it's easy.
Thanks to all, I used some simple instrutions.
I now have:
6.35.10.18 Radio
1.76.2007 SPL
And I installed the CursorSense32A-1.2.6.1 rom.
This is way better.

Then for sure it was updated. Rogers wouldn't send out units with the bugged ROM.
Hello all.
A friend of mine has a HTC Magic (the google one) 32b and he wants to root and flash recovery/rom, but he is afraid of bricking the phone because of spl and radio updates.
Can some one point me to some guide, how to root and flash and give some advices?
He also wants to install gingerbread. Is it available?
Thanks in advance
Some additional info:
I'm writing down his mobile specs:

Be free to give some tips
Hello all
I'm the friend SKL_opt
Can you help me.
I was thinking about doing this process
1) Downgrading to 1.5
(http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Magic_(32B):_Rooting)
2) Install this recovery
(forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492)
3) Install this Rom
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932118)
They think this process is the best for my Magic?
I appreciate the help

Hello everyone.
Yesterday I made the case that he had previously said, downgrading to Android 1.5, I installed a new recovery (Amon_Re 1.7.0) and got me here.
Ginger wanted to install the rom Yoshi 1.1, but I noticed that for this rom, I need this 1.33.0013d SPL and RADIO 2.22.28.25 or 27.08.
After making the downgrading, the fastboot got the following data
SAPPHIRE PVT SHIP S-32B ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0006 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Then and now, is the question I ask? What will be the next step?
Thank you for your help
Just one more question.
Android 1.5 as at this moment, the system says I have two updates to the Android 1.6 and 2.2.1 of Froyo later. If I make any of these facilities, I lose everything I did before, that the recovery entertaining installed (Amon_Re 1.7.0)? Or the recovery keeps unchanged?
Thank you all for the precious help he has given me. They have been great to me.
Not one response from you. Thanks
Hello everyone,
Yoshi already installed. Can lock the topic
Thanks
I have a Mytouch 3G with the 3.5mm jack.

When I bought the phone (used) it came with 2.2.1
I was able to root the phone by downgrading to 1.6 using HBOOT and then using Universal Androot. I then installed Amon_RA's recovery (RA-sapphire-v1.7.0) using Rom manager.
I want to install Ginger yoshi but I don't understand the information regarding the SPL and the Radio.
I tried installing an Engineering SPL using the recovery mode but this caused the phone to stop booting either normally or to recovery. I had reinstall 1.6 using HBOOT and perform the rooting process all over again.
Do I need to change anything regarding the SPL and Radio in order to install Ginger yoshi or for it to work better?
Is there a different kernel I need to flash in order for it work or work better?
I realize a lot of this is addressed in various posts but I feel I've gotten too close to bricking for comfort and I need some advice specific to my situation.
Edit: I'm not at all set on using Ginger yoshi. I'm totally open to suggestions as far as Roms. I'd prefer a GB rom that's as fast as possible.
Changing the radio on your phone will have little to no effect on anything. Changing the spl will give you a not fully functional device.
If you want to use Ginger yoshi then yo will have to flash another kernel after. They have one in their download folder. The fender one.
A lot of roms (ezgingerbread ad cos are the ones i use) use autokernel so you don't have to deal with that
Oh also I think ezgb is much faster than the others probably beause it doesn't have all the cyanogenmod features (bloat). light and fast

Thank you very much for your response. I'm probably going to install ezgingerbread but I have one question first. Do you know what the ginger yoshi post means when it says:
RADIO AND SPL INFO
for 32b you need SPL 1.33.0013d and RADIO 2.22.28.25 or 27.08
for 32a you need SPL 1.33.2010 or 1.33.2009 and RADIO you will need the old radio(3.22)

That's the part that got me confused. Can I just ignore that?
Edit: Is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9987696&postcount=2 the best (only?) source for ezgb binaries?

Hi yaguilao. Welcome to XDA!
This thread will help you to root, flash a custom recovery, and upgrade to a magic SPL. A magic SPL will give you much more control over your device and make it easier to recover if you have any problems.
Once you have the custom recovery and magic SPL, you'll be able to install custom ROMs as often as you want.
This forum has threads for HTC Magic/Sapphire/MyTouch custom ROMs.
Some tips:
Make sure you know exactly what model you have: if it has a headphone jack, it's a Fender/1.2. If it doesn't have a headphone jack, it's a regular 32B. Before you flash anything, make sure it is compatible with your device.
Once you have a working radio + magic SPL + custom Recovery, your life will be much easier. The phone will be hard to kill as long as you don't try to change radio/SPL/Recovery after that.
Before you do something, read the forums. As much as you can. A lot of people have made mistakes, so you can learn from them.
If you've read everything but you still have concerns, post a question on the forums.
Good luck!
