110 hours on a single charge! - Hero CDMA General

[Edit:] I've changed the title to reflect 110 hours. The original title and body of post reflected 100 hours, but since then I've added two more screenshots at the end of this post to show 110 hours (4 days 14 hours), and I added a (absolutely horrible) video to show that I'm running a standard battery (not an extended battery). NOTE: When I say the video is horrible, I mean it came out sideways, and is barely readable, and is a ridiculous 29MB in size. But the two added screenshots back up the readings and statements in the video. What follows below is my original post.[/edit]
Hey all, this is probably not any real record around here, but I wanted everyone to know I've just passed the 100 hour mark, running 100% uptime since the last battery charge!

Notably, for at lease one-third of the total time, the phone was in an area of poor (or no) signal strength.
For this test, I had wi-fi, mobile internet and GPS all disabled...the only active radio enabled was the telephone voice radio, which was always enabled. I could (and did) recieve calls during the entire time (though I kept the conversations very short).
Here's how I've got my phone set up:
nfinitefx45's stock 2.1 ROM and Darch's Infinitefx_vUV_710 kernel, without freemem tweak (it's not the new vUV2 kernel).
SetCPU, set to 614mhz max and 19mhz min (245 max & 19 min sleep mode), with additional fine-tuning.
AutoKiller, with values I set individually for the different fields (didn't use any of the pre-set options...my settings are probably pretty close to "Agressive", except for the Content Provider value).
I use Advanced Task Killer to kill any apps that I'm no longer using, and I always have. But I've got it set to ignore SetCPU (because I've got a screen-off profile defined and enabled), and also set up to ignore AutoKiller (but I'm not sure if that's really necessary).
Notice the amount of time the phone spends at the different cpu speeds:
Because of the way I've got SetCPU set up, even though I have max speed set to 614mhz my phone rarely runs at that speed...the Powersave bias is set to 125, so most of the time that I'm demanding any real-time performance from my phone, it's actually only running at 537mhz. Likewise, even though screen-off max speed is 245mhz, most of the actual activity in that mode is at 122mhz or 160mhz, again due to the the Powersave bias setting of 125.
Also note that a great deal of time is spent at 19mhz, during both screen off and screen on states. Even so, I experience no noticeable lag, because the phone immediately jumps up to a faster speed as soon as any need arises (such as swiping between screens).
In case you're wondering why some cpu time is showing at 710mhz even though I have the max speed set to 614mhz, remember that I'm running the 710mhz kernel, so while the phone is booting it's running at 710mhz.
I must admit to being miserly in the use of my phone during this test, even though I burned a couple of percent battery downloading the ShootMe screenshot app last night (just so I could provide these pics). And I used EStrongs File Explorer to send the screenshots to my computer over the wi-fi so I wouldn't have to plug in the USB cable.
One more thing...I'm not done yet! I'm going to get another screenshot after my Saturday afternoon nap...hopefully I can get 110 hours out of a single charge.
Cheers!
[Edit:] Here are the two added screenshots that show 110 hours (4 days 14 hours), and the horrible video I shot to back up the fact that I'm using a standard battery.[/edit]

Thats crazy!

That's a lot of time on one charge. But as you said, not using it much. I think the 2+ hours of awake time is telling.

The point of my post was to show how I've set up my phone to conserve battery when the phone isn't actually busy doing something.
Many forum members, in many different threads, have stated that they burn through battery at a rather disappointing rate even when they're trying to conserve juice. Darch went to the trouble of building up a batch of UV kernels to alleviate as much of that problem as he could (thanks Darch!). In large part, my post was basically explaining how I've taken advantage of that kernel, and nfinity's ROM (thanks to you too, nfinityfx45!), and careful tailoring of system and app settings to set my phone up so that battery drain during periods of inactivity is minimized.
Taken as a whole, the results indicate that my average battery drain is less than 1% per hour. In light of the fact that one third of that total time was spent trying to stay connected to a poor signal, I'm quite confident in stating that during times of good signal my bettery drain is significantly less than 1% per hour.
How many people can say they're realizing that kind of battery conservation with their Hero on an everyday basis? I've gone to the trouble of determining what works and what doesn't in terms of conserving battery, and reported on the setup and the results. That's all.
Another point that could probably be taken from the data is that, all other things being equal, I would probably get better battery life doing the same everyday stuff with my phone than the regular Joe who hasn't taken similar measures to minimize unnecessary battery drain on his device.
The bragging was just icing on the cake!
Edit: So sorry, I meant to also thank urushiol for the UV kernel!

This is pretty sick! Are you also using an extended battery?

i thought that auto killer is bad if you use an OC kernel?
thats hella right though
i've been waitin for someone to post somethin like this so i can maybe get 24 hours with moderate usage

Nope, I'm using the original battery.
The phone just now beeped at me, and the warning screen says I have no more than 9% battery remaining. In two more hours I'll have 110 hours on the battery. At that time I'll use my wife's Hero to take a video of my phone's battery usage screen, and then I'll pull the battery cover off of my phone in the video so you can see I'm running a stock battery...it says "HTC Innovations" on it.
I'll post the video after that.

AutoKiller is only bad if you're using one of the kernels with the built-in free mem tweaks.
That's why I'm not using a kernel with free mem tweaks...that way I'm free to use AutoKiller and set it up like I want. And I want a custom setup, not one of the preset offerings that comes with the app. I want to use agressive values for most of the settings, but I want to set the kill value for Content Provider to a low number, because if I use the preset value for Content Provider in the Agressive setting, it will kill the GPS antenna input to my tracking app when I'm on my mountain bike, because the phone's in my jersey pocket with the screen turned off...in such a situation AutoKiller presumes the content provider to be a background app and shuts it down if the kill value is set to anything but low...sheesh!

Okay, I've edited my original post to include a HORRIBLE video showing the standard battery being used, and I added two more screenshots showing 110 nonstop hours on a single charge.
So I'm going to finally put this project behind me now, and get back to the truly enjoyable business of actually using my phone again!
And a HUGE thanks to all the devs who've made it possible to get such incredible performance out of our phones!
If anyone cares to know why I decided to use any of the settings that I did, just ask and I'll be glad to talk to you about it.
Cheers, and a good night to all!

wow thanks for the info on autokiller
i can actually use it again! whoo!

Battery Life Anyone?

As we all know, most phones battery like are far less than manufacturers say they are.
I checked several sites but nothing mentions battery in the real world, talk time or standby.
I really want to get a Dell Streak after the weekend but would like to know from Dell Streak users how the battery really is...
at the moment I have the HTC HD2 & the HTC Desire... Both give me 2-4 days of battery. With heavy use 2 days, and with little use 3-4 days.
How is the battery on the dell streak? Should it be at least 2 days, then that's good enough!!
I get no more than 1 day out of my streak. I use it for data only (no voice calls). I use mainly wifi (switch off data connection when on wifi) and rarely have GPS on. I don't mind this as it is a small price to pay for the benefits ... mainly a gorgeous massive screen. I'm sure its possible to stretch it's use to more than 1 day, but on average I'd say it needs a daily charge
hi m8!
i own a streak and all i can say is:the battery is really good.depends how much you use it...i even played on it 5-6 hours(heavy games and browser, installing, downloading etc)
but normal day usage(like dialling, messages) you get more than 15 hrs off usage.
i charged my streak over night to 100%...in the morning i went to work and i left it home on stand by for 10 hrs and when i come back home the battery was still 100%(no battery drainage in standby mode)
outdoor brightness is the best...beats even latest iphone!(i think this is important)
the final conclusion is:battery is good!
(im saying this because i own a hd2 and the baterry is crap)
cheers.
jvc.
I get about a day and a half out of mine sometimes 2 days depends on how its used i was ill for three days and it was at 80% 3 days later i had only looked at it twice and the battery was at 69% after 3 days so not bad in my book, a lot better than any HTC phone i have had

Cheers for that jvc, nice to know the battery is good when not used a lot.
I will only use the dell streak for light voice calls and the odd text message.
My HD2 battery is nothing special, 2-3 days if I'm lucky and that#s with very little use...
I'm a heavy user of my streak, surfing, reading, videos, txting, installing/uninstalling apps etc even streaming audio via 3g. In that scenario, about 6-8 hours.
I installed juice defender, which basically turns off data connections when the screen is locked, this bumps heavy usage to 9+ hours.
On regular day (reading RSS feeds, e-mail & txt, this forum etc) with juice defender on and periods of inactivity it last 17 hours no bother.
Approx full charge time is a out 3 hours.

For those of you who want to improve battery life, go to market place on your phone, type in Advanced Task Killer.
You will see several different ones, look for the one that is like a small green man with a BLUE x in the middle.
I actually have that program on my HTC Desire & it REALLY makes a huge difference, i'd say a 30-40% improvement.
What the program actually goes is close any running apps that take power, ram, resources, etc...
Basically, everytime you lock your phone, the program automatically ends all running programs in the backround which then drastically improves battery life.
Let me know if any of you have a similar program or your opinions about this one.
Here is how it looks:

task killers have a adverse affect on the streak.
i use setcpu and get about 28hrs from a single charge. device usage med/high
I would not recommend using task killers on the streak (and, tbh, they're pretty pointless on all android phones) as it tends to kill the simtoolkit which causes data loss and no signal until you reboot. I think there's something else as well, because if you add the toolkit to exceptions it still kills the signal after a while.
Back on topic: mid/heavy usage i can get almost 2 days out of it. That's pretty good in my opinion
Hmmm, strange how everyone does not recommend the task killers...
I too agree many of them are utter rubbish and cause complications.
I have tried around 4-5 different ones on my htc desire.
All were crap apart from the one I listed above. It never gave me any trouble nor interference with anything at all, only increased battery life & increased ram as it forces other programs to close.
Supposing you were fiddling about with your phone for a bit, say some music, pictures, internet, etc...
You then lock your phone, all the programs you just played with are now draining your battery and you can see the list of running apps in task manager...
The above program will simply close all the programs you were running when you lock the screen.
It does not interfere with anything at all and really improves battery.
There is no harm to try it, for me I think it's a must have program...

dell have recently publish artical about task killer .i have posted before they are not good at all as anderiod is task killer itself when device struggle for RAM it will close the idle process. To prove it try this trick
Open ur kill manager and kill all the app and check same time ur network will go off for flash of sec . it wont happen everytime but most of time in my case & another thing is with task killer contacts gets messy as it kill process.contact so might wanna keep eye on it as well
sorry about spell mistake as typing from netbook .....they are shyt lol
cheers
@kanej2006
You do realise that until you have no free RAM having more free Ram makes absolutely no difference to your devices performance it's just sitting there doing nothing and being wasted. If you want to see what is happening to your Ram on running and inactive programs check out System Panel Lite which is free in the market and will show you in great detail.
Most of the time i will have 12-15 Active programs and 20-25 Inactive programs and still have about 100mb of free Ram so really fail to see the need to keep shutting things down. Which would mean when i do want them its going to take them longer and use more power to load again as opposed to just becoming active from being inactive.
I've had my Streak for nearly two months now and have never used a Task killer usually my battery after 16 hrs has any where from 28%-48% left depending on how heavily i have used it. I have Push E-Mail running 16hrs a day on two accounts everything but GPS and Bluetooth are on all the time as i turn these two things on only when needed and turn WiFi off when none is available and also always have 3G on also.
I have found the battery life to be excellent on the Streak especially considering just how big and bright the screen is i am actually really surprised at how good the screen is in sunlight as it's easily the best performance I've seen on any device.
Marc
juice defender made my streak last long 2 days
well pleased with this free app
I've been using App Killer Advanced for the last few days, and although not recommended by several others here, I've used to software before without any problems...
I also have an average of 290mb of free ram which really increases my battery life.
Crikey most days I struggle to get a day. I find any widget sucks juice, I had 4 going the other day and didn't make it to lunch time.
Remove widgets and notifications on apps that you don't need then I get a day easily. I like the idea of two days I'll try that app

Unhappy with your battery life? Fix is here!

Hi everyone,
I have had my Galaxy S for a month now, I have been very unhappy with my battery life, so I thought, I gotta to fix without compromising perfomance.
I found it!
My battery life during this 1 month period was utter crap, battery used drained from 100% in about 10-12 hours on average.
At the time I was running the latest FWs (I kept updating as the FWs came out) with Mimocans EXT4 fix.
I was with lowest brightness setting, running on 2G without any screen animations.
So heres the fix:
Install SetCPU 2.02, make sure to apply on boot, make the minimum speed 100mhz and the top 800mhz.
This ensures the phone doesn't ever go to 1ghz but that the performance is never compromised (even when playing games, videos, apps).
Because I have the Mimocans fix, everything is smooth and battery life goes down very slowly!
Heres the stats of my battery right now:
Battery Level 70%
21h 40m 25s secs since unplugged
Display 37%
Phone Idle 27%
Cell standby 21%
Voice calls 7%
Android System 4%
Internet 2%
Android OS 2%
You can give this guide a go, sorry if it doesn't work, just trying to help.

I have the percentages up in the OP.
This guide isn't just for turning crap battery life to good, it's also for people to extend their battery life if they already have a decent one.
Following the underclock to 800mhz my phone can last this long, compared to before when it used to last 10-12 hours with same usage!

The percentages stand out, thanks, I saw them. Again, they are a bit meaningless without the time used. If you don't use your phone for 24 hours you should lose maybe 5% with sync off.
So, please, click on "display" and report the time that the display has been on, repeat for the other usage categories, other people will ask for this same information. I don't know if you didn't know how to do that or if you are witholding the information, hopefully it's just the former. I understand that, perhaps, you are doubling your battery life, but depending on the way we use our phones, relative to the way you use your phone we can see better or worse results. Doing this will allow us to know how much you use your phone and for what purpose, so we can make personal judgments about its merits to our usage.
TIA
This may fix the issue but it's merely a patch to cover up the wound. From my experiments I've found that in most cases the problems are related to the phone never entering sleep-mode. If you have bad battery life, please do the following:
0. Make sure you phone has been running on battery power for a while, usually a day with only 20% battery left is a good place.
1. Type *#*#4636#*#*
2. Go to Battery History
3. Other usage and "Since last unplugged"
4. Check the "Running" bar. Generally, if this is over 60% something is wrong.
5. Go to partial wake
6. Check if there's some application (e.g. Facebook) that has a high partial wake percentage. This is bad. System should be on top on most systems.
So, do you have the signs of something being wrong? Fear not! Usually this is due to a program or service misbehaving. I had bismal battery life (about 15 hours, just check the other thread for several of my posts), and then I uninstalled "Weather from Yr". I also let my phone discharge completely, then charge TURNED OFF over night. I then disabled auto brightness and "power saving" in the display. Yes, I disabled the power saving feature, and my battery life went sky high. Now I have about 2 days of moderate use (1h 30 min on) and about 1 day with heavy use. Letting any application run while the screen is off using partial wake KILLS my battery.
Unfortunatley, I didn't follow proper scientific approach when conducting my experiments, so I can't say which of the three things (uninstall weather from yr, complete discharge/charge cycle or turning off power saving) that did it for me, but it's worth a shot if you haven't rooted your phone. Post back with results.

Display: 1h 22m 8s.
Phone idle: 20h 51m 22s
Cell standby: 12h 12m 52s
It doesn't look like I have used it much but during the time the display has been on, I have either been:
Playing games,
Texting,
Twitter,
Or Internet.
It doesn't look like much, but I recommend you try this and post results before and after

2 things:
1) the phone number thing is pretty cool, in the past I've used "Spare Parts" for identical and a bit more information. I encourage people to use one or the other.
2) You can still fix the unscientific nature of your experiment by a factor of 1/3. You can turn power saving back on, and I'll try it. Also, I'll assume that 1 charge wouldn't make a world of difference, so I think that could've added a few minutes to your phone life (more than charging with the phone on) but maybe someone with actual technical knowledge can chime in.
As for any program running in the background, I had a similar situation where I was going from losing about 30% in a day, similar to the OP, while using the phone, and hence the display, for about an hour at work. I also, always preferred to leave the phone off the charger overnight, so I'd have been unplugged for 16+ hours. One day I allowed 3 things to run to check both battery and 3G usage (I have 500mb per month until I decide to change my plan, probably waiting for the new deal thats been announced for unlimited data for an extra 10 bucks sometime this month). So, I ran:
Sync
3G data monitor (To test if I would go over what I'd use too much data from my allotment, refresh every 30 mins IIRC)
ATK (to kill tasks, hoping they'd use less of my precious bandwidth)
This 2 tasks plus sync just CRUSHED my battery, by the first time I turned on the screen I saw more than 50% drain from my battery, probably around lunchtime (probably 3.5 hours from the start of work). I turned off all 3 and, like you, I haven't conducted a scientific experiment since.
I tried something similar with overclock widget, but I had the impression that underclocking made the SGS really unstable. It freezed completely like 3-4 times a day. After uninstalling overclockwidget the device didn't crash anymore.
So how are the longterm effects (say, 1 week) of setcpu?
If anything I'd OC my phone, not the other way around.

The software probably isn't optimized for your usage scenario, I don't think an underclock, if done right, should be that bad, OC on the other hand...

I'm in the same boat, screen uses 80%+ of battery when the screen is on, as long as I'm not wasting battery when the screen is off and processes aren't running I have excess battery life, not to mention a spare battery, which I'd like to get more use out of if I could better my experience.

Proper Way To Measure Power Usage

This topic is spun off from this other one from the 1850 mAh battery review in progress
First I'd like to say Thanks to dinan pointing out the extra screens info that should also be captured during the measurement.
Coming from the SGS, it lacked the nice graph that is apparently build into the stock AOS
SNS has a nice graph chart

SGS doesn't have graph chart
SNS does not show the Time without signal
SGS shows the Time without signal
yet in another interesting twist, the SGS shows the "Time without signal" meanwhile the SNS doesn't seems to track that under the same screen in "cell standby"

Thanks for the pics... but next time could you click on the battery graph so we can actually see how your cell reception was and how often the screen was on?
To be honest I get similar usage every day and I'm on an overclock kernel too.
Would be nice to know how long the screen was on, and at what brightness.

at least 2 hours on (4 trips of 30 min each)
since each Driving trip was with GPS ON + Screen ON
brightness was on AUTO (and streaming audio as mentioned above)
then i also used the screen for a while when updating the Android Market apps, else it takes forever (100 Mhz) to download/install if the screen is off (probably due setCPU power saving modes)
having the screen ON the market upgrades runs at 1000 Mhz (1 Ghz)
when i type SMS, and emails the screen needs to be on as well, and you'll definitely need the screen when looking up stuff on the web
results for the stock 1500 mAh will come tomorrow for comparison as mentioned on my post above
Yea I know what entails the screen needing to be on lol... you could just tap the display in the battery usage and it'll just give you the exact number... that's all I'm looking for. I usually see it at over 2 hours per day, and with over 2 hours of voice calls at work in a building that has poor reception, the phone still lasts the day. So yea with no voice calls in a good reception area, I could easily squeeze 4-5 hours of display time, which is the biggest battery drainer.

LMAO!!!
i didn't even know such feature existed in the software
i just recently got this software after some one recommended it on the other topic
i was under the impression it was just those blue lines below the color graph behind the numbers
It's not a software feature... clicking the display always told you how long it's been on since as long as I can remember using android. Even android 1.6 had it!
Anyway, the blue lines indicate "usage," whether or not the screen is on. There are times when the phone wakes while the screen is still off and I think that's considered usage so it's reported as a blue line.
For an objective test, you really need to give the exact display on time and at what brightness, and also screenshot of the graph (tapping the graph, not just looking at it at the top) so we can see when wifi was on, how good the signal strength was, etc. All of those are important factors in battery drain.

How do you get the SNS to show the Time without signal ?
can't seem to find it any where
i found all the other screens we were talking about
There's no specific time but under battery usage, tapping the "Cell standby" will give you how long the cell radio has been on and also a percentage of time without signal. It can be used as a rough guide, for instance mine says 2h 11m 6s for "Time on" and 2% without signal, so just take ~131 minutes, multiply by 0.02 and I get 2.62 minutes without signal, but that's a very approximate answer since the 2% isn't very accurate since it includes no decimal points.
EDIT: Just re-read your first post, mine reports time without signal there. I assume if yours isn't reported, that means it has 100% signal, or the base ROM doesn't report it, I don't remember since I've been on custom ROMs for a while now.

Time without signal is also on the nexus one with froyo.
When doing any battery tests, the display on time is by far the most important, followed by total time. After those 2, take note of anything that looks unusually high. Screen on uses so much more than any other task that it makes the others near insignificant when comparing.
the time with signal is included in this graph but this provides more detail. this will also display wifi and other usful stats if they are used. just click on the graph in the battery usage to pull this screen up.

Crazy Android OS CPU usage

I am getting crazy CPU usage from Android OS, which is currently sitting at 52% battery usage. The CPU time of Android OS is between 20 and 30 minutes per hour! I have tried freezing many apps, I have tried task killers, rebooting etc. I have WKE7 firmware.
android os does use more than the rest, unsure why, but somehow the battery ife is still pretty good
http://goo.gl/cyd1T
KE7 (stock kernel) , full sync on google stuff + 1 email on push + auto brightness + about 1H of display on time on this, 1d20min and 68% left.
sent 3-4 sms and did a bit of various stuff since yesterday.
Seen worse lol
I would be very happy with that kind of batterylife. Sadly, my phone loses about 35% battery while I'm sleeping. With medium usage, I would usually reach 12 hours of battery.
i rate my battery life to smth like "amazing" xD

Yes for me battery life on sgs2 is also very nice - I'm comparing to sgs and it is about 20% better. My heavy usage today was 5 hours of screen on with wifi, some gps, 2h of gaming, skype running for about 3h, and battery run for total 9h. Also I use 2 push email accounts and sync is on. I think thats really good. And typically when I sleep in 8h battery is drained for about 8% with all email and google syncs active. So this is also quite good. All that on KE7. Most of samsung bloatware frozen.

Been trying to keep away from these battery threads, but noticed today that I've gone from android system 12% to 30% and I've no idea why.
Still on KE2, and am probably a "light user" - black wallpaper, brightness 20%, screen timeout 2 minutes, some phonecalls, lots of SMS, music - lots of Poweramp - shown a few photos, occasional wifi, GPS ca. 30 minutes per day, don't sync, don't use my carrier's dataplan, no e-mail as yet, and no Facebook/Twitter/games/Social hub/accuweather etc ever - in fact they were uninstalled on day 1.
Got 36 hours from my last charge, am now on 79% after 16 hours. Still happy with it, but no idea what has caused this spike.... Will keep an eye on it.
My $0.02 worth.
I am really starting to wonder why some people have amazing batterylife, while others are having terrible battery life. I would be very happy with 18 hours with 4 hours of screen usage, but instead I am barely scratching 12, today has been even worse. 10 hours with 3 hours screen usage...
So far mine is 2hr 15 mins screen on time, mostly browsing on 3G, 13 hours on battery, and have 29% remaining. Its OK, but I wouldn't describe it as amazing. Roll on 2.3.4
the thing is on android battery life largely depend on apps and setup anyway
Yeh, I know. But I feel like I have optimized my setup as much as I can. No autosynching, email check every 2 hours, facebook, twitter and RSS updates ever 4 hours. No GPS, automatic screen brightness, wifi sleep on. No widgets pulling real time info.
mine has the stock weather widget and animated background - also wifi always on (that prolly actually helps ..)
also i used some gps, played short videos, youtube, recorded some vids and took a few pics (you can see i used it more heavily today in the graph)
im supposing a lot of this goes as android system (bug?) cuz its certainly intensive and isnt in the list (not even lower)

Get rid of the auto screen brightness. I find brightness of 10% makes a huge difference. This samsung screen might look great but in fact it's practically useless as it drinks power
with ke7 as u can see auto brightness doesn't seem an issue for me anymore
i like it because i don't need to set the brightness in sunlight when it's auto hehe
What is your CPU time on Android OS vs. total battery time? Right now my phone has been on for 2 hours and 14 minutes, and CPU time in Android OS is 43 minutes!
If you've read through the majority of these threads, what's weird is that some of you that have uninstalled and/or frozen specific apps are getting worse battery times than those of us that are bone stock and have everything whirring in the background. As an example I use Wi-Fi a lot and also Kies Air and connect to a Blu-ray player using Wi-Fi Direct. The Wi-Fi Sharing app never appears in my running apps after I turn Wi-Fi off. Yet some of you with tweaks that don't use Wi-Fi have it randomly appearing and eating up CPU time.
I've kept up with this thread and other battery threads and for every "ah-ha!" moment there's a post following it showing worsening or no improvement. Somewhere in one of the three battery threads there were some tweets from Google acknowledging the problem in running 2.3.3. with dual-core processors. I think other than for the mad scientist fun factor we're just beating a dead horse and 2.3.4. is going to have to be our salvation. There's not even any assurance that a cooked ROM sans all the Samsung tweaks would work any better if the issue really is a core-OS problem.
Back to our ongoing debate...

Battery after 2.3.4 and rooting

So I've rooted my first android phone yesterday!
I've noticed the battery is a bit better.
My battery is down to 67% after 1 hour and 23 mintues of display turned on. I've barely installed anything on the phone.
Is this okay? Should it be better?
Another thing: is there a way to "underclock" or reduce the voltage and save battery like that?
I want to get as much out of the battery as possible.
Thank you
33% drain in that time is pretty poor, I'd expect no more than 10%, but ideally less.
The phone automatically underclocks when youre not using the phone. I had system monitor installed and noticed that when im not doing anything on the phone, the processor goes to 200mhz, and as soon as i click around it jumps to 500 800 1200mhz depending on use.
As for your battery issue, i noticed some apps keep your processor busy at 1200, and then your battery drains even with the screen off. And no thats not normal, in one hour it should at the most go down to 90% on idle. The battery is actually impressive.
And sometimes, when you're on 3g networks and the signals are low, your phone will still drain the battery. And you will notice the back of the phone heating up, oth from running the processor at 1200mhz and using 3g

Rooting has nothing to do with battery .
jje
My friend tell me root will cause battery run out faster, is that true?
No root is gaining administrators rights to a lower level of the OS .
jje
It's not 1:26 of idle, it's of screen time use.
I've got in my funning services stuff like, email, social hub, music, google+, juicedefender, google maps. Could any of these be draining my battery?
How can I keep some of these apps from not being in my running apps?
For instance, when I force close the google maps, it turn back on after a few seconds.
Google maps and gmail app never bugged me, but i did have issues with social hub and email. Use to drain my battery, so i just signed out because there was no way to stop the background services. Besides that i always have gmaps, gmail, gtalk, go chat for Facebook, Facebook app, whatsapp running in the background and no issues.

Here are a few screen shots that I took with the battery and screen on stats. Can anyone tell me if it's normal or if I've still got a battery issue?

Do you set the brightness to full often?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Set automatic at the screen menu.
No, my brightness is almost always on the lowest setting. I turn it on fully only when I am in direct sunlight and need to use the phone for browsing etc (which doesn't happen often, mostly calls which I can do with minimum brightness).
I dont really know where the problem is, but it doesn't sound normal, the timing you say you are getting. Try to keep a black back ground and dark themes ( because in Amoled displays although low power consumption they use more energy to display white and colors rather tha black). And ley your phone turn off with low battery and charge it to full without disconnecting, to complete a cycle for better efficiency
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
so 1.5 hrs for 1/3rd battery usage?
This means you'll get about 4-4.5 hrs of screen usage (assuming normal drainage during screen-offs). This is normal I would say.
On my undervolted phone, I usually get about 5 hours of display time + about 10-12 hours of screen-off time which carries me through the day quite easily.
You can Undervolt your phone using Tegrak's app. More on that here.

Also, you can freeze system apps etc that you don't use by checking this list (using Titanium Backup). (Credit to shanume)

What's your phone carrier?
If your are in Japan, You need to configure build.prop.
If your not in JP, I don't know.. Try flight mode. or running without SIM.
so that you can check if the issue related with signal or not. at least...

I'm not from Japan, but you guys make it sound like something is wrong.
Is there an app that can monitor the usage so I can post results somehow?
Maybe monitor it for all running apps etc?
I did this little test yesterday:
I played a video on my phone (from the SD card) for 20 min with no sound. It took down around 4% of the battery. It was a 720p (1.4GB for 50 min).
Is that normal?
Edit: Just tested it again: 30 min of 720p video, with max volume took down from 25% to 17% (so 8% battery for 30 min 720p video from SD card).

Again - both 4% for 20 mins and 8% for 30 mins sound normal. You can post these numbers on the Litening Rom thread (quick link in my signature) and other users can confirm.
this is poor... not sure what the hell original ROM doing with you.. in case you dont mind you might give it a shot to try litening or criskelo ROM..

And what battery drain do you normally see if you play a video for 30 mins?
I'm using VillainROM 2.0 if I didn't mention it before
