Searched for "Ringtone" and "Permission", but found nothing related to this issue.
when I put my EVO in the charging stand, which is connected to my computer's USB port, the SD card becomes un-available to the phone.
This means my added ringtones are un-available until I remove the phone. This is an issue to me because I keep the phone there as long as I'm home.
I tried using File Manager to copy a ring tone to the System/Media/Ringtones (I think) folder, but got a "You don't have permission" error.
Is there any way to copy files to the phone's built in memory without rooting it?
Thank you.
if you select, charge only when you connect to the dock you should not have that problem, while it is connected to the dock swipe down the notification area if it says disk drive select it then select charge only and done and the phone should recognize the sd card again.

I assume you mean /system/ and no there isn't.
Thanks for the replys.
ifly4vamerica, nope. I tried "Charge only" and cannot access the SD card unless I remove the phone from the stand.
MrDSL, not what I wanted to hear, but thanks.
Guess I'll have to disconnect the stand from the computer and use a wall plug.
Unless you wanted to be super nerdy about it...I tried and got tired of trying to push stuff I just put the phone in Disk Mode and put my ringtones in a folder called Ringtones on the SD card, and for notifications sounds I put them in the media folder where the facebook pop m4a file is

Do I need to do anything on the phone before I pull out the minisd card?
Do I need to do anything on my pc, before I pull the cable, when the phone connect with the computer?
On the phone, just make sure nothing is being written to the card. Probably best if nothing is reading from the card either. So at least pause Media Player. Generally speaking, if the phone is off (not all the way off, just turned off) you should be okay. Interestingly, when you eject or plug in a card, it turns the phone on. I guess this is so it can inform programs that the card state has changed.
For the USB cable, similar rules apply. Make sure nothing is being written to the phone. I find it interesting that PPCs don't require an eject on the PC side. You don't even get the little tray icon to eject it. I guess because PPCs used to connect via a docking tray, so they wanted it to be able to be dropped in and just lifted out at any time.
On a separate note, I've noticed that when I unplug my miniSD card and plug it back in, I can't see the card. I have to eject it and plug it in several times for it to finally show up. Anyone else have a similar experience?
I don't have the problem you said, maybe mine a new minisd card.
actually, i do have that problem, when i plug it in and look under system>>memory, it says "not installed". i just go into windows media player and update my playlist and then it's all good.... but there has to be a better way, anyone know how?
on a side note, does anyone have suggestions for a good mp3 player, maybe something similar to itunes?
thanks
check spb softwares for Benchmark utily to check your memory card performance before buying it.. it is a very good... utily..
read the spb note before using the same..

Sick and tired of this.
50% of time it's acting normally, other 50% it turns itself off and on continously, basically giving me a limited time span to copy files onto the SD card.
Also, another question - is it possible to turn off the automatic widget/program rearrange thing ? When you're on the homescreen or on programs listing screen, and when you hold your finger a bit longer, the phone automatically opens a "mode" which lets you rearrange your icons/widgets/etc, is there a possibility to turn that off ? Getting tired of sometimes holding my finger on the phone for a brief second more to have that rearrangement crap activated.
The problem is not your phone, but the cable or the computer.. Try to unistall your drivers and then reinstall or use another cable..
About disable screen widget option, i don't if it's possible, but try to use another launcher.. i recommend launcherpro..

tried with a different cable, didn't work, same **** as always ( the moment PC recognizes the phone and pops autoplay message for the SD card to browse it or w/e, phone freezes, then restarts, then works for like 20 seconds after first reboot, then shuts down entirely and starts rebooting slower and slower after each reboot, and when I take the cable out, the phone suddenly starts acting normal )
will try on a different PC, doubt it it's going to make a difference
|edit|
yep, same **** on different PC - so far 3 PCs and 2 different cables causing this problem, so yeah, I think it's safe to say that it's a problem with my mobile phone, or the SD card at least, cause when the Autoplay option pops up on my PC screen, the phone blocks
aye, it's the SD card, just tested with another one and I have no problems whatsoever
so.. does anyone have the original content of the Sony Ericsson shipped SD card that I could use to restore my SD card to it's original state ?
I can post mines..

Try this, it worked for me: (I wanted to give the link to SE forum where they talked about this, but I'm not allowed, not enough posts, they say)
This seems to be quite a common problem in X's, there has been some bug in notification tone in the device in regard to the PC companion, some sort of confrontation which makes the phone to reboot all the time. So, I went to the settings, "sound and display", "notification ringtone", change to "thinkerbell"
Also, uncheck the "SD card notification"!
My phone does not reboot now, hope it will stay that way!
cheers, doesn't reboot anymore !
My goal is to go on a 2 week vacation without a laptop. The hurdle was to be able to clear out my SLR camera's memory card periodically by putting the pictures on the Tab and uploading them to an online storage location and Facebook.
So, I bought the USB adapter in the hopes that I can plug in an SD card, suck the photos off, and move them along.
Last night I came home with the USB adapter. I dug around my junk drawer for a USB card reader. I plugged an SD card with about 75 photos into the USB reader and then plugged USB reader into the USB adapter.
Immediately a number of things happened. The power light on the card reader lit up. The I/O light on the card reader starts blinking. On the Tab there are two messages in the notification area. One says tap here to safely remove the USB device. The other one says uploading and gives the name of a jpg file.
So far, so good. However, I don't know what to do next.
How do I get the files from the SD card into my Tab? I fire up File Manager HD and can't find the photos or the SD card in any folder. Where are they?
I just want to highlight them all tap on "Move" and paste them into a "vacation photos" folder. How is this done?
I think that I've figured out that the message stating that it was uploading a file was coming from Google Plus' automatic photo upload feature.
But, for the life of me, I can't figure out what to do with the photos. I believe that they might show up in the Gallery but so do all my online Picasa photos so I don't want to sift through thousands of photos to find the ones on the SD card.
Help! My vacation is coming up soon and unless I can figure this out I'll be lugging around a heavy laptop for two weeks just to upload photos.
check folder \sdcard\usbStorage
I think someone said that it wasn't in the usb storage but in external SD or another directory, just check it out with a file manager, and remeber to go up in ypur directory

It should show up as an MTP device that you can see in your Computer browser. You may need to install Kies to get the latest drivers.
The battery icon will show a red X if you're plugged in via USB port. It will only charge (at least on the stock ROM) when you're plugged in to an outlet.

Samsung no longer makes devices which allow you to simply mount as an external storage device (stupidly, they use MTP instead). Having said that, there's nothing saying you can't simply copy what you want over to an external SD card or USB drive (via adapter) and move it all that way! It's an extra step I know, and it's a little more of a hassle, but whatever...

Well, you can still drag and drop files using Windows Explorer. The internal and external storage should show up as drive letters.

I think any questions may be kind of hard to answer at the moment due to the device not actually being released until the 8th

It kept on giving me the notification with a brand new 128gb PNY until it finally just didn't recognize it at all. I put in my old 32gb SanDisk and now it only shows on reboot.
Hahaha that makes me feel sad

It's normal for new releases to have some bugs. Samsung will probably release an update to fix any bugs.
Multiple bugs for sure. Mine does the same thing constantly and I have a 64gb Samsung card in mine. Also the stupid UAC which promtps you to allow or deny to use every app you install and also the fact that OTG cables don't work with gamepads either. I feel like I downgraded from my note 5.
I just called T-Mobile and tech support said they're getting a lot of calls about the sd slot being bad. Mine unmounts and ejects the sd every 20 minutes or so now. They're sending me a new one.
S7 Edge Verizon. No matter how many time you swipe the notice closed or turn off notifications from the system ui it KEEPS COMING BACK!!! I hate this phone because of that already. It's driving me nuts! Guess I'll call Samsung tech support I really don't want to have to resort to root and xposed to get rid of this.

Hey guys, just wanted to post a solution to the problem. All of you with this phone, that use an external SD card, are getting an annoying notification that says, "SD card For transferring photos and media," and it doesnt seem to go away. If this message appears over and over again in your status bar, the only known way to get rid of it was to previously just keep "clearing" it out or remove the SD card completely.
If you are receiving a notification "SD card For transferring photos and media" on your Samsung Galaxy S7 and you cannot get the notification to go away, please try to do the following:
1. BACKUP your sd card - plug your phone into your computer and copy off the contents of the SD card
2. On the phone, navigate to: Settings >> Memory >> SD Card
3. In the submenu, choose FORMAT
All of the data on the memory card will be formatted to the correct file system and the memory card will be reconnected to the phone for proper use. The message, "SD card For transferring photos and media" should no longer appear.
Hopefully this helped you out! Thanks!

Same. That was the first thing I tried and it doesn't make a difference.
Same issue. I used scotch tape and put 3 pieces on top of the SD card. Now the issue happens 1/day instead of 1/hour. 5 pieces of tape and it is too thick to close, or it gets caught inside the phone. I'm trying to figure out if this is a physical or software issue. The last time it failed yesterday I had dropped it (6 to 8 inches) to a carpeted floor, so I'm not sure if it was coincidence or truly a physical issue. Verizon store guy changed my SIM card, but that doesn't seem to have much of an effect (love the placebo attempt). The SD card worked fine in my S5.
