[POLL] What ROM are you using? - EVO 4G General

Just a basic poll to get some idea of what ROMs seem to be the popular ones here. I also feel that this poll can help those wanting to dive into the world of ROMs in choosing the right direction.
Aside from voting on what ROM you're currently using, why don't you tell us about it...
Most importantly are what kind of battery life you're getting for how much you use.
What is the performance like?
What you feel this ROM offers that others don't.
How can this ROM be better?
Thanks guys!

So, um...where's the poll? I'm using CM6 myself.
It's the first ROM I've used on my device. It's very quick as compared to the stock 1.47 build (of course). Seeing FPS of 52 on my HW002 Novatek. Confirmed that I have 5-pt multitouch (though already knew from the ADB command before I flashed). Linpack consistently at 39/40 (not overclocked).
Battery life so far seems pretty good, on par with stock, though I've been on a couple of phone calls this morning which is atypical for me (I don't really use my phone as a phone I mostly text/web/e-mail etc. - I *might* use 150min a month of calling).
EDIT
Ah ha! There it is.
EDIT2
1236 in Quadrant (again, no overclock, no special performance tweaking of any kind)

Fresh 1.0.1.
Getting about 20-22 hours with moderate use (2-3 hours voice calls).
Super fast! Getting about 52FPS with Netarchy's kernel (no overclocking) with my 003 Nova.
Aside from the badass FRESH boot up screen? I like how dedicated Flipz is to his work and how bugs gets squashed right away. It's stable and everything works.
Could use Froyo and I would like to use launcher Pro rather than Sense with it.

Using DC v3.2.3
With the stock kernel and SetCPU profiles set up I was getting pretty close to 20 hours out of my battery with moderate use.
The performance is great. Very quick with few lags. Couldn't ask for much more.
The one main tool that this ROM offers that others don't is DConfig. Having the ability to easily set up profiles to optimize the phones performance and battery is a valuable tool.
Can't wait for DC Froyo!

So for the ones I like the best are Cyanogen,Fresh, and EVO-OLOGY ROM. Using CyanogenMod 6 right now seems a little buggy, but so far i like it the best.

You need to add Yay for Juggs Rom up there. I am using his FrEak RoM, with ADW launcher and a mixture of Google apps and sense things. Very solid and zero issues.
I been following the 2.2 roms, betting waiting on V10, but I have the files for CM6. I may slap that one on for the weekend after I backup my current Rom.

Baked SNacks 9.7 with launcher pro +
battery life is GREAT ! 19 + hours per charge ( with OC )
everything works simple great !
i do have the CM nightly in nano to do some testing

Baked snacks 9.7 with netarchy kernel 3.7.3c I think. this is smoother than damage and battery life is great!

Really? In development? How about general or Q&A?
Buuuutttt: I'm using Fresh 1.0.1. WiMax is keeping me from switching to CM6.

CM6 but...
I'm using CM6 myself and being an Android n00b in general I still love it so much more than the stock experience. Coming from webOS I was excited at the idea of using custom roms and it hasn't let me down.
Currently I'm noticing the incredible performance increase of CM6 just in terms of smoothness and app loading times. Battery life seems fine to me (unplugged from charger at 830am and will need to charge around 430pm. My only complaints would be the lack of some quality email/calendar/feed widgets that come pre-loaded. Also I've flashed an updated version of the rom twice now and each time the cameras work great upon first use but then next time I try to use they "cannot connect."
WiMax is no big deal b/c I have Wi-Fi at my office and apartment. Would be nice to have in downtown Houston but can wait.
Would be willing to try DamageControl but wasn't sure if it's running of Froyo and has any speed issues. We'll see...

I'm using Fresh Evo 1.0.1 with netarchy kernel 3.7.3c. Waiting with baited breath for CM6 official release.

Hows your 4g, I only get more than 1 bar in the heights.

Snacks 9.6
Easily 40+ hours per charge, with 2 hours of surfing, 30 minutes of voice, 30 minutes of GPS.
I'm waiting for BuglessPete v0.5 or CM6 RC release.

Cyanogen to date...
Cyanogen - snappy little rom with great battery life and nightly builds! This combined with Rom Manager Premium, I have the option to locate, download, backup, flash and do a/b comparisons in minutes, with disaster recovery for the nOOb I am. DC comes in second but no technical "reports", just "seat-o-the-pants" kinda usage/feel...

I am running Cyanogen till DC 3.5 is released.
Sprint is 2 weeks out from Froyo on EVO.

I just rooted last night, started with the rooted stock ROM, then flashed Fresh, then DC, then CM6. Now I'm back on Fresh as I want to start simple before I jump away from all my HTC apps.

1.47 Rooted! Beat that! W00t!!
Seriously though, I'm using this one because I just got a Airave (50% off) and I could not connect to it using CM6, Fresh, or BakedSnack. I couldn't connect using any rom to be exact.
On another thread here, there was talk about changing the EVRC and roaming settings to get better call quality. Beware! Screwing with these will leave you with no connection to the Airave.
Back to the topic. I plan on trying out the latest CM6 tonight, but the stock root is working well for me.

I'm currently using Cyanogen's Nightly Builds of CM6 for the EVO. It's not perfect but I've gotten it customized to where it's everyday-kind-of-usable to me. I imagine as they move forward the it gets optimized, my gripes will go away (like the mising market apps, the slower than stock speeds, etc). I'm okay with it for now.
Before that, I had just begun using Fresh 1.0.1. Very stable and feature-rich... no problems with it at all. Memory management could have been better. This has been the only ROM where I've seen my memory dip below 70MB.
And before Fresh, I'd been using DamageControl 3.2.3. This was for me, the ROM to beat. Best battery life, snappy responsive system, great memory management, great support, nice features. I did find a couple of bugs (with Handcent) and it sure could have used one or two os Fresh's features (like the 270 rotation) but it was still the ROM to beat.

What setup have you ended up with ?

I'm very curious as to what other people are now using as their default ROM on the Sprint Hero...I've got a feeling that ROM development is slowing down, and will probably move to the EVO (I'm way off an upgrade)
I've been through (almost) every ROM I think, and I've ended up with the following setup which is nice and speedy.
Kernel = 2.6.29-G0DmOdE-OC
Build = fresh toast v2 beta 2
I tried enabling jit, but was getting worse fps results on neocore than with jit disabled.
I'm running Launcher Pro, and everything feels really good.
DarchDroid 2.6.4 stock.
Loving the 20 hour battery life on it.

Same as you. However, I know flipz got the evo so I only expect maybe one more update to fresh rom. Only problem I have is that if I don't reboot the phone for a couple of days the phone app will crash when someone calls. I just reboot my phone every other day so it isn't a problem but I will probably be switching to a different rom as soon as I figure out who is sticking around and still developing... or maybe I will figure out how to cook my own rom since I will have more free time on my hands.
FreshToast as the daily, w/ any Darchdroid latest release as backup.

ZenEXP with GodMode. My own mods and theme. Speed is great, though I get horrible lag sometimes as with any ROM. It's just the nature of the Hero.
I too settled at ZenEXP. Sense is fun again and modes and multiple themes makes it customizable without dedicating a theme by flashing it.
Second choice, and may reflash one day would definitely be Darchdroid. That Rom is amazing with all the work put into it. It's crazy fast and looks hawt.

I run regawmod on a daily basis, his latest themed version. Runs clean, lasts a good while on the battery and I like the theme work
I'm now running DarchDroid 2.6.4, the only OC'd ROM that will run on my phone (not that I want any other ROM, as I hate Sense UI with a burning passion).
I just got the Hero not long ago. It's my first Android phone so I'm stuck with it for a while. I'm interested in possibly making a rom. Looking over some of the guides right now. So whatever I do I'll be sure to post it to xda. Right now I I have 2.1 rooted.

Which ROM have YOU flashed?

Sup everyone.
Just curious to whats going on in the EVO community, as far as who flashed which ROM, and why. Maybe even provide a link to the ROM, or the dev site! That always helps too. So lets start with mine::
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Which custom ROM are you using? (or Stock?)
- Currently running Fresh 0.2 Custom ROM. Loving the speed and nearly bugless experience. Custom navi-bar is a nice feature, but currently running LauncherPro on top of it.
2) Why are you using it?
- Considering its my first real ROM experience, Fresh seems to be the more popular of the bunch. Sticking with it until something else awesome comes out, or maybe this one can just get better. ^_^
3) Pros / Cons?
- PROS - Fast, reliable, nearly no errors, at all. Trust-worthy name in the ROM society. Removes unwanted Apps and bettery life seems pretty fair. Can only get better.
- CONS - Seem to be having trouble changing wallpapers. (getting FC?)
1.32.651.6 rooted I just wanted root and I like the Sprint and HTC programs
Damaged 3.0
Its fast, stable and everything works.
Once the asop like builds and or froyi get mms receive / camera working I'll probably move to one of those.
1. Bugless Pete 3.0
2. like the stock experience (first android phone), didnt want something with GUI hacks
3. Pros: incredibly fast, no ads, everything works
Cons: Need a second flash to get rid of Sprint Apps
BuglessBeast
Using it for the battery life improvements and built in task killer
Fast, stable and excellent battery life.
No problems yet, but I havent done anything tasking with it.
Stock rooted 1.32.651.6 that Flipz provided. Took out all the stuff I didn't want, and put ADW Launcher on it. It's basically perfect now. I've been wanting to flash some other stuff but I haven't seen anything to sway me from this setup yet.
I've done about 4 of the
OMJ ROM's are stable, everything works, Sprint Apps are excluded. Advantages (since I'm new to Android) are different programs he puts in his ROMs. This is the one I use when I need my phone usable.
I tried the EVOlution ROMs. Froyo is definitely quicker and cooler. I can't wait until we can get it. There are too many things that unstable or unusable about it. I mean, I got kids so I NEED my camera at any given moment.
I flashed one that I didn't know what the difference was. That was really just a test for ROM Manager, which makes the process 100% easy. Just a few clicks and your done.
My next one which just finished DLing is DamageControl 3.0. He advertised well. Sposed to be quick stable and battery saving. All benefits to me.
I also use Titanium Backup so I can restore my customizations. Saves a bunch of time as well. Be careful though cuz a customization on one ROM could mean a bootloop on another.
I use OMJ's Vanilla "eclair" rom with all the sprint and htc crap removed. it's glorious!
Fresh 0.2 for me. Just because I liked his stuff on the hero.

Fresh 0.2. Flipz always did me right with my hero. Tried out the Evolution Froyo rom just to see how Froyo ran on the Evo. Definately nice. Can't wait to have a fully working rom. Tried OMJ for a while. Will probably stick with Fresh rom. He makes a pretty stable rom and always has some tricks up his sleeves for the next build.
I'm running RvU 1.3.2. I then used Buggless bloatware removal, installed Overclock..
I did it because of battery drain.. Before, I was getting about 8-12 hours of use + sleep (3g). Now, I'm pushing 35-40 with use and sleep (these results are when using wifi only, I'm still experimenting with 3g).
DamageControl v3 but switched to EVOlution V7 last night and it's running great.
Stuck switching between FroYo and DC.
I would love to have everything working, but it's just so hard with how sexy FroYo is
Flipz "Fresh Evo 0.2" ... and i upgraded to .3 using ROM Manager.
Running Baked Snack .7 . Stupid fast and I love his customization to the battery icon, notifications and the notification bar. Plus the battery life has been improved as well.
EVOlution v7...If I need a camera ill just load my saved 2.1 in a couple minutes and roll..

only tried fresh although I think it has a memory leak because my available memory keeps on going down the longer I keep my phone booted. Could be wrong.

Same, cant pull myself way from Avalaunch's ROM, Froyo is too nice....
Right now I'm running DamageControl v3.0, I really wanna tryp flipz fresh .3 but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get into adb on my comp, I've been googling and going through posts here for a few hours now to no avail
Have flashed:
EVOlution: Amazing, but no cameras
Damaged 3.0/.1/.1.1: Nice, and a lot of innovative features, but was too buggy.
Currently running:
Bugless: It doesn't try to do anything fancy, and because of that, everything works great and its fast and sleek.

CM6 or Fresh 3?

I'm on Fresh 1.0.1 right now, and have Sense turned off (I do miss the wigets ). I see that Fresh 3 requires a wipe, which I really don't want to do anymore than I have to. Therefore, I was thinking about making the switch to CM6.
Since I don't use Sense, should I make the switch?
Thanks for your imput XDA.
cm6 is asop so no sense..just think of all the things sense offers aside from the launcher..if u can go with out then why not try cm6
Agreed...do a nandroid backup and then flash CM. If you don't like it...restore back. I like CM6, I'm just waitn on 4g to work... then ill go
Nandroid, try it. If you don't like it go back and do Fresh.
I just went through all the sense roms and there is no comparison to the speed and flow of ASOP.
I'll try Damage control 3.5 when that comes out of beta. Thus far Cyogen has been the best for me.
Waiting for a proper kernel until I give Fresh and Damage Control another go. Until then I'm loving CM6 RC1.
currently on the latest fresh and its just fine. Waiting on CM6
Thanks. I think I'll made the move to CM6 tonight. Where do I get the nightly build at, or is the RC1 the best bet right now? I already did an appbrain sync and nandroid backup.
http://buildbot.teamdouche.net/nightly/supersonic/
That's a link to the latest nightly, the most recent one is smooth as butter if you do a full wipe. You may want to go check out the nightly thread for the Google apps update zip, because I'm not sure they're included (like the market and maps and such).

What's ASOP?
CM6 is very lean and fast, super responsive, crispy, sexy, minimalist .... my all around favorite.
Recently I have been giving sense another chance. I tried the stock rooted 2.2 ... didn't like it. Now I'm trying BakedSnack with theme, and I really like it! I don't really like sense all that much though, especially the dialer. I like everything to be simple. AOSP is much simpler and cleaner IMO than Sense.
thanks. I'll download it and load it up, since either way I go, I'm looking at a wipe, sadly. New nightlys don't req a wipe, do they?

The latest nightlies do not require a wipe. FYI you can follow the commit process here to see what changes between nightlies:

CyanogenMod, FTW! OP, you don't actually have Sense turned off (only the laucnher disabled). Flash CM6 and discover the glory of AOSP.
I have been using and upgrading nightly to CM6 nightlies for the past week or more, however yesterday I tried Fresh 3 with netarchy's kernel to unlock fps. Anyway, I am not crazy about Sense launcher, so I switched over to Launcher Pro. I have to say that my phone feels much snappier/smoother with Fresh 3. I am also getting more fps than with cm6. My latest test using fps2 was 55. Quadrant scores 1255 with no oc and linpack is right at 40 give or take 1-2. I am quite happy with those numbers and I like having 4g and the Sense camera. By the way, the latest wimax/radio update REALLY woke up 4g. My speeds went from 1-2mbps to 5-7.
Just started checking out CM6, was holding off due to the lack of 4G but I'm already glad I did. Still have yet to put the battery levels through its paces without making massive changes but I've already decided this is where I ned to be. 4G can wait for me.
Definitely worth a look.
Honestly, 4G is nothing but a huge battery hog. I could only see it being useful if you were tethering and connected via USB or AC adapter.
I have a NAND backup of CM6 but I'm currently running Fresh 3.1 with an FPS unlock kernal. I miss AOSP's look and feel but I'm enjoying having the nicer camera app and working 4G right now.

4G is indeed a battery hog but I can't live without it . In my room I get little to no Wifi coverage (Router so far away) and normally talk on the phone quite a lot. Without 4G, I wouldn't be able to talk and use data at the same time.
As far as the OP's question, I have tried all the ROMs (including CM6) and it is indeed IMO the best one available. I am not using it at the moment because of the lack of 4G and HDMI (I use it nearly everyday). The moment CM6 gets those 2, I will be back in a heart beat!
I flashed CM for under an hour and then went to Fresh. I like some others will probably give it a go once the 4G is fixed. Then again I am a huge Sense fan and love the widgets that go with it. That beiing said, what do those of you that favor CM or something besides Sense use? I want a clock with the weather and the weather animation on the full screen. Is this only apart of Sense?
So to answer the OP's question IMO I'll stick with Fresh for a while longer although I tend to try them all out as often as they are updated.

True, but I do use it enough that I was avoiding CM6 because it didn't have it. But I'm willing to give it up for a while. Can always go back, but at the same time I don't think I'll really be missing it. HDMI on the other hand I don't use, so that's not a biggie.

CM7 vs Stock Froyo

Hi guys,
It's been a week since I installed CM7.0.3. I think I can write down pros and cons of both roms. By the way I tried dk and joker but didn't find them stable.
Here it goes;
Speed:
CM7 hands down. Butter smooth.
Stock rom isn't too bad but lags 0.2 seconds when opening stuff which is a tad annoying. Also laggy with angry birds. (i don't play games, just tried it for testing)
Stability:
CM7 is good but not as stable as stock froyo. Froyo keeps runing and running. CM7 has crashed 3 times in a week.
Battery life:
I am getting 30 hours with CM7. 55 hours with stock froyo. (same cpu speed)
Common Apps:
This is where stock rom wins as well. CM7 Gmaps and Gtalk fonts really suck.
It may not be a big deal for some users but for me it is a big problem as I use these apps at least 5 times a day.
With stock rom skype is unusable. CM7 wins here if you use hands free option.
Radio: (reception)
I can't tell the difference to be fair. wifi, gps, cell. they all feel the same. Stock gps is definitely more battery friendly.
Customization:
CM7 wins again. Stock froyo is not customizable unless you install shed loads of apps on it.
Conclusion:
CM7 is like an aston martin. If you get one you'll have a big grin on your face. On the other hand you'll spend a lot of time waiting for a recovery van on the side of a motorway.
Then stock froyo must be a good old toyota corolla. It always gets you there. Not in style though...
Haha, good comparison.
I would say battery life is pretty similar, not any significant gains over stock rom though I will tone down the cpu frequency further in standby as I have noticed CM7 is better in this aspect.
I would agree with the majority of your comparison though, nice balanced review.
I get good battery life from CM7, because I use SetCPU and smartly set profiles. (low battery=low cpu clock, screen off=low-ish cpu clock...)

I experienced some problems with setcpu. On low cpu clock setting, when I receive a call it takes 3 rings for the phone to realize it is receiving a call. Which makes me miss lots of calls.
That's a drawback of setting the min speed too low. Which is why I keep it at 245.
BTW, it is not recommended to use SetCPU anymore, because it may clash and cause issues with the default CM Settings. Keeping the governor at Smartass under CM Settings, is equivalent to having a profile in SetCPU for Screen Off.
i like CM7 very much, but with FroYo my battery (with wifi or data on all the time, and juicedeffender) was last for 2 days... now, with wifi (not all day) its like 1 day max.... very disappointing... :\
Nice comparison, I mostly agree to this. I haven't noticed any crashes so far (been using for ~a week now) and my sd card loads faster on reboot.
I really like using CM7, and there's no going back to stock froyo.
I'm running CM7 nightly for quite some time now and I can say it works even better.
Running it overclocked at all times, lasts a day or two depending on how much I stress the phone.
As for camera I flashed the MIUI camera which is a lot better then stock CM7 one, image quality and speed of the app is marvelous.
Just like you said, it's highly customizable; I wouldn't go back to the stock one anytime soon

You can say what you want, but for me, even stock rom is faster than CM7, especially in settings menu (scrolling), but of course applications is a different thing (if you have enough patience to find one)..
CM7 looks dull and takes the punch out of user experience.
Battery life is not a issue if it is more than a day.
Ultimately what sells is user experience and hence hTC Sense wins.
you can't compare stock froyo with aosp gingerbread

Sorry, can't agree with that at all.
You just need to run a benchmark app to see cm7 is way faster than stock even without over clocking.
Not sure what you mean by the second part of your post.

Poll: Stock, CM7 or other Custom Rom?

Got the idea from a post by a dev who thought that we wouldn't need the custom roms so much now that we have CM for the Atrix.
I slightly disagree with that and could bet a 5er that there's more people on other custom roms than on CM, at least for the Atrix and due to its "special" features.
(If I'm wrong the 5er will go to XDA)
EDIT: Seemingly (though numbers cannot always be trusted..) I was wrong. 10€ donated to XDA!
Stock ROM with BLUR frozen. I was having way too many problems with CM7 (like the pattern lock suddenly changed to pin lock on me, but I had no PIN set. ) I love CM7, but will wait to try it again when its finished. Plus the fingerprint scanner and webtop are just too useful to give up for me.
I definately would like to see a vanilla AOSP build.
Of course with the ability to retain fingerprint scanner and webtop functionality.
I just put CM7 on and i'm loving it. alien build 4 was cool and I'd love to have webtop back but it's not that important to me. My fingerprint scanner had been broken for a while and I don't know how to fix it so CM7 seems right fir me now

Definitely stock rooted/with most of motoblur frozen. Pciture sync is about the only thing i like about it.
But I don't like the look of stock gingerbread (or at least 'adw's stock' look on CM7, assuming the touchpad's CM7 has the same look as most CM7 releases - just too basic!)
I voted CM7 because thats the best rom availible today in terms of speed and features, but there's so much more that can be done with an AOSP code base. We need more non-blur ROMs before I would consider anything other than CM to be worth while.
Definitely CM7 but With Swype. CM7 is not final yet and it it's by far the smoothest ROM I have used on any phone. The camera ideas improved a lot flute some weird resin as my photos are no longer people, which was the czar with the stick ROMs. The only thing I Miss right note is the ability to use fingerprint scanner but one can't have everything in life....and patience is a virtue.

Give every rom a try, you will see that always you go back to CM7.
Most stable, fastest and top customization ability.

Man, it's so different user by user.. I've tried CM7 three times in the last 2 months but I keep going away from it; battery is worse than on other roms to start with, go figure?! And it's not as "snappy" as other roms either. Stability is for me equal on all the roms I tried.
Will definitely try the next release as well though..
P. S. Check the attached, on The DarkSide. Battery started from 95%. OC'd to 1,3 Ghz and on constant browsing, market, XDA app through wifi. Can you get that on cm7, basically 4,5 hrs of screen time on a bit more than half a charge..?

Man, it's so different user by user.. I've tried CM7 three times in the last 2 months but I keep going away from it; battery is worse than on other roms to start with, go figure?! And it's not as "snappy" as other roms either. Stability is for me equal on all the roms I tried.
Will definitely try the next release as well though..

Agreed. I was starting to like CM7 on the atrix until it randomly changed the lock screen on me. I also had terrible battery life. I loved CM on the G-Tablet, and I love it on my friend's Droid X. I'm sure once the team is done I'll love it on the Atrix too.
Darkside V2.1, pretty stable and fast. Love the look on my SGS2 friend's face when my phone CF benchmarks better than his.
...Though I suspect it wont last long.
I'm on alien just because I haven't wanted to re-setup everything on my phone...once CM hits RC status I'll be on that for sure.
I'm still rockin stock Froyo be wise of the battery life reported on other options.
I'll probably make the jump to ICS if the version is stable...

well stock was great before 2.3.4 update as far as the battery goes, the best up to date custom rom IMO is Homebase, next would be ninja's latest, but in this poll i would have to go with the CM7 beta, it's been flawless so far(3 days of testing) and i finally got my original battery life back(30+ hours) along with CM's features that i miss from my G1 days when CM first started....
CM7 is my daily driver, but I use the Darkside when I want to do webtop(or just want a change lol)
I have both as nandroid backups on my SD so all i have to do is backup my texts and any new apps i installed and flash between them..15 minutes to change at the most
I voted other rom though, since I still like having the option to do webtop
CM7 all the way. I don't need that BS fingerprint scanner or webtop. It's all useless to me.
Stock, rooted.
MUST HAVE WEBTOP.
the only way to future proof our atrix (at least for a year or two)
is to totally reject this ignoranamous
notion that cm7 or any rom is the end all be all rom
for our devices yes it is a great totally
custom ground up build i respect the time and effert that all the people took to build it ;
with that said we do need other roms too for the fact that maybe there are certain aspects that are not impemented into cm7 and cant be
i implore all the rom creators for the time they spend away from there familys to work on this "hobby"
futhermore yes we do need roms or Oc kernals for it ;
but should we expect it No.

Seriously??? i've been through every rom, and CM7 has great battery life, along with Ninja and Homebase. Then again the problem may not be the rom, maybe your battery needs to be re-calibrated. That was the problem when i would go from rom to rom. For example i would flash ninja and have amazing battery life, then i tried homebase when it first was released, which the battery was also great, then after a while i went back to ninja and the battery life was horrible(barely got to 8 hours). After i did the steps to re-calibrate my battery, it was just as strong as it was on the day the phone was released(30+ hours), so that may have been the problem
