galaxy s i9000 vs M110S Galaxy S - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi Guys,
Here in france, we only have the option of the M110S Galaxy S and not the i9000.
Since I am very interested in changing the rom to a non-touch wiz rom and since we do not have a M110S section here, does that mean that the same process etc can be used with both?
I would appreciate any help on this topic.

As far as I know the M110S is the korean version. In France as well as in Europe, they only sell the i9000. I wonder how you ended up with an M110S...

Looking at the phone specs and pictures I can't see any differences between it and the Galaxy S, so I'm curious as to why it has a different model name?....
Is it CDMA or something? As to my knowledge all i9000 are GSM, so that's the only thing I could think of.

well.. i havent bought it yet. i browsed through the website of orange and matched the pic to the m110s..
I'll have a look at it and confirm..

na we have the i9000 in France
Orange doesn't even have it yet (although there are ways to get it through shops like the phone house and all).
So far only Virgin, Bouygues/Universal Mobile have it in shop

phonehouse.com and phoneandphone.com have them.
Bought mine at phoneanphone.com and couldnt be happier.

DMB, different firmware (and hence different software, no swype, no social app, some features like swipe left/right in contacts for text/phone call are gone), I believe a different radio. DMB and a quicker Froyo launch are big wins, the rest is BS that pisses me off

Hi Chrisluffy25,
I would like to ask you what issues have you encountered when using the galaxy s m110s (korean version of galaxy S) in the philippines?
i heard there are some problems compared to using the galaxy s i9000 in the philippines.
Appreciate your inputs.

ahaha.. i said that no froyo at all but im in froyo now without rooting the phone...and oh yes!! it was a great device but as i said.. dmb tuner is useless maybe until 20 years from now..
how much do you planning to buy?

This looks promising. Everyone would like a translation though.
Korean is my native language.
Summary:
The email says that the Froyo tests on Galaxy s phones have been completed.
And then it says there is no problem with sending out Galaxy S phones shipped with Froyo.
The attached photo there shows the test results for reference.
Updates will follow...
So, it looks like as of Sep 27, Froyo has been ready to be released to Galaxy S phones.
I would assume that Sprint likely has the update at this point. No doubt they'll take some time to add/test their bloatware. Here's hoping we see a leak soon.
i am waiting for a leak
You realize, of course, there's a difference between the international Galaxy S (that this most likely applies to) and the US variants (that it most likely does not). Not to mention there are differences BETWEEN the US variants themselves. I wouldn't take any document concerning a Galaxy S phone to be applicable unless it names the Epic or at least mentions CDMA somewhere.

Yes. It would still be a fair assumption that our build's development would not be far behind if not in lockstep with the build mentioned in the email. It would look very bad to have half of the Galaxy S phones running 2.2 while the others remained on 2.1. Samsung has done worse things though.
I'm thinking they wouldn't care too much about having the I9000 updated for a while before any of the US versions considering it was released a few months before any of them. I do agree that the Vibrant and possibly the Captivate will most likely see their Froyo release within a month of the I9000, but I'm thinking we won't see any action until a bit after that due to our CDMA radio.

CDMA has been natively supported in Android since 1.6, so I'm really hoping that doesn't become the case. There just wouldn't be an excuse for it and would be terribly bad form on Samsung's part.
EDIT: One thing that I thought Samsung did very well was, while making the phone available on virtually every major carrier, keeping the 'Galaxy S' branding on them all. I think that the update becoming available at different times for each carrier would serve only to confuse the consumer and really hurt the brand. Hurting the brand would not be smart while they simultaneously launch the Galaxy Tab. That's just my two cents though.
If anything they should hoard the updates until they're all done, and then release them all at once. Perhaps that's what they're doing and how the Captivate's leaked build originated. </speculation>

I read that Samsung is trying to update all Galaxy S (worldwide) at the same time. However, the actual time in US will be determined by the carrier.

Well, this news and including the fact that they are releasing the Samsung Galaxy 551, a Samsung with slide-out keyboard, in Europe with Froyo in November:

FYI, this phone has no relationship to Galaxy S line. There are many Samsung Galaxy lines: A, S, U, etc. They all have different hardware.
One good sign is that they got Touch Wiz 3 in landscape mode.
I have a concern regarding future update. I recently read an article about a Samsung Galaxy K phone coming to Korean with 2.2. I'm just curious how long do you think Samsung with support the current Galaxy S platform? Or is this Galaxy K going to replace the Galaxy S phone and Samsung will drop support for the Galaxy S? Will we even get 3.0? Samsung promised 2.2 by the end of the year but never said anything about 3.0. Anyone?

Just read about Galaxy K. It's a lower spec than S series but with 2.2.
Samsung can't promise 3.0 because nobody has seen it. No manufacture has promised 3.0 yet. There are rumors about 3.0 requirement and if it's true Galaxy S satisfies it.
If Samsung can't deliver 3.0, I'm sure the dev team will. That's why I have bought Epic over Transform.

We should have Froyo soon

2.2 has began to roll out in Europe. Of course we know that they have the international version but I think people are neglecting to realize that their press release states "north america" will receive it soon as well. I think we all know what phones they are referring to.
I don't know about you but I'm excited.

"The Android 2.2 upgrade wil be available from the mid of October 2010 in the Nordic region and gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and rest of the world."

Guy, where the heck have you been? Samsung released the JI6 update for people to download ahead of waiting for T-Mobile. They release majority if their updates via kies and even made a special mini kies just for us.

This is for the international Galaxy S (i9000). There are people in North America that have them so it makes sense to push the update here. We are going to have to wait for T-Mobile to push it.
This does give me hope that it is getting closer though.
It actually sounds promising. ..we might get it before Christmas.. and, yes t-mobile sends the OTA, but guess who makes the updates...

You must be new to this.
Unless they specifically refer to our devices, they're not including us. North America i9000 devices more likely refers to the Canadian Vibrant which is closer to to the standard i9000.
There are some significant differences between our devices which would preclude us from being included in the i9000 rollout.

Thank you! This guy is so one sided he does not see that it does not include us.
First, the official press release states "Samsung GALAXY S." It does not say only I9000, it just so happens that they are the first to get it.
Secondly, our phones are still "Samsung GALAXY S" phones, or have you forgotten? Just because they slapped a label on it does not mean it does not fall under the Galaxy S line.
So Samsung's press release states that their Android 2.2 GALAXY S update is ready and will begin rolling out to a North America and the rest of the world. Are we not to assume they our phones are Galaxy S phones, that we are in North America, or even part of the World?
Be a skeptic all you want, but these updates are not far off. There was already a Froyo leak for the Captivate so they were being worked on. Whether or not T-Mobile does an OTA doesn't even matter at this point. Once it is leaked or released from Samsung then we can have it on our phones in some form.
And thanks for calling me a noob, oh bright and genius one. Hope it made you feel better.

Your right our phones are a Galaxy s phone.but its a sub phone. This refers to the build I9000Jpm, I9000 being the ORIGINAL Phone!
Bottom Line.
you people arguing over the way this update will come are missing the point.
This means the devs will get to see a galaxy s froyo rom and it will help them out immensely. CM and others who have been having trouble getting froyo to run on our phones will be able to look at this and use it as a sort of road map. Who cares if t-mo or samsung will be releasing an ota or kies update for our vibrants? The vast majority of the people here aren't going to be satisfied with a stock rom.
Lets just say its coming for my questions sake...
If I rooted the Vibrant and didnt change roms or do anything fancy, will it receive OTA updates? How do OTA updates work w/ rooted phone?

Ok, you're right. Hey guys, listen to Blader. He knows best. We shouldn't expect Froyo until sometime next year because that's how long it is going for them to modify the 2.2 code. We know our phones are completely different from the original so basically they have to start all the way over from scratch. I'm talking Linux. Hopefully they will be done with the process before 2012. Don't expect any leaks anything or either. Samsung doesn't do that.

Galaxy tab wont get ice cream sandwich offical update

According to korean promotional site by samsung galaxy tab is not getting official ics update
Reason=hardware not capable of handling ics
Rom specifically if I'm not mistaken. And it's been confirmed before, this was just the reason why
And what you do not like ics who is here?
Ice cream sandwich ROM
In the quest to update my GT-P1000M Bell model from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread to now finally ended up with Overcome ROM 4. Everything went perfect, here and there problems and a couple of days even went by - but eventually am happy now and the tab is working fine.
So I want to thank all the members of XDA Developers for the files and the procedures and also the rest of those who posted questions and there were answers - it all helped a lot. Now I know what it is to get Bricked ...
Further I want to know where do I go from here. Did I get the actual ice cream Sandwich ROM that actually has started retailing on stores ???
Some of the problems I got which i wanted to highlight was - my tab was going to the EDGE network here in Saudi and no matter trying to figure out which modem file didn't work. I installed the bell modem file eventually although it gave a no voice warning. But the thing was that it still showed edge network. than I was fiddling with the Packet Data enable check box and when I did once it changed to H&3G and when I did again it would change to E back. Strange. Hope this might help somebody having this problem.
The MIUI Rom did not work properly at all ... So I switched over to Overcome. the keypad was not showing up. The Sim was not detected and mobile networks page were all dimmed. I didnt wait too long. My Hands were shaking ... wondering what happened

Hmm, I thought that the SGT handled ICS (CM9) quite nicely. Could use some optimizations here and there, but performance is very acceptable imo
Samsung claim that the sgs and sgt don't have the ram etc to handle their touchwiz on top of the ics as well. It's not that it can't handle ics on its own, but the both of them together. And Samsung will not release their ics roms without touchwiz on top.

My parents are going to the Philippines later this month, in the Makati/Taguig area mainly.
1. How much are GNote's selling over there for

3. I'm assuming GNotes on sale in the Philippines are the GSM version with Exynos and unlocked (can use on AT&T or Smart Talk in the USA)?

Thanks for the quick reply. So if I get the Samsung warranty and my phone should break while using it in the USA, then the warranty is only valid in the Philippines? That would be OK for me because I have family in the Philippines so I could send it to them if it would need to be fixed it's just turnaround time would be a hassle (would have to ship phone there, then my relatives would have to send it in, then send it back to me after it was serviced), but I wonder if the warranty could be used in the USA?
And what is the Gray International Version?
Gray version means to say it comes from the gray market...
not usually sold by official distributors of Samsung and its affiliated partners.
Usually you will get less or No warranty at all on some gray market stores. Some offer you warranty but only to the store where you bought your unit.

I've already posted this in the accessories section but here are my cases again and I bought them in Singapore.
The blue case (Uniq) is probably going to be available here in the PH soon 'coz I see this brand cases for the iPad and Galaxy tabs in local stores and I'm telling you now, don't buy this. Yes it looks great, but the case is covering the mic and when I make calls while using the case, the person on the other line can't hear me clearly so it's kind of sitting in my shelf at the moment.
The reason I got the brown case (Verus) is because of the speaker hole. I was thinking of getting other cases but most of them don't have this hole and I find it really convenient to have this feature so you won't need to flip over the case whenever taking calls.

Not familiar with where Aerofone is though
Im not yet rooted and I've had it for about a week and a half. I might just do so this weekend. I will have to downgrade the firmware first since I did 2 OTA updates already
Currently I'm using a knockoff SGP Ultra Thin (For Php250). White case on White Note REALLY looks nice, but I could use something with a stand
The Verus case looks okay , but I would really prefer not having a flap since its annoying to use one handed (on the MRT) or to use it in landscape.
I have a Chinese flap (bought together with the phone) case with a hole for the speaker as well and another hole to see whoever is calling without opening up the flap, but it becomes really thick due to the case and the holes make me feel that the screen isnt protected anyway, so why bother.

thanks...any tutorials on how to start?any how does the usb jig method work on the note btw
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
jig is only useful if you want to reset the "flash" counter on your phone. You see, smart phones like our galaxy note records if you have flashed your phone using methods such as through Odin.
But for the purposes of rooting, using zergExploit rooting method doesn't increase the flash counter. That means you won't be needing the jig. hope this helps
Mabuhay kabayan!!
I used to hav rocketrom from v15 up to v22. Tried chracks then tried the ics teamrocket v1.5 and went back to chracks v14, cant wait for the official ics to.come out and custom roms out of it.
There are plenty if threads that will help you under the dev section, you wont go wrong if you read and understand and research shen doing customs. Good luck and hope you enjoy more our beloved Note

Pinoy from NYC here.
My international GNote is also rooted and evaluated the MIDNOTE 2.0 (ICS LP1 and ITALIAN QUALITY) Rom. ICS really flows smooth on the GNote. I really like it with all the new features and functionalities.
The main issue I have is the Straight Talk data service I am using does not work with the XXLP1 radio modem used with Chinese leaked ICS rom.
I know this because when I revert back to my GB Rocket v22 rom, it uses the XXLA4 modem radio and Straight Talk data service work with 2-5Mbps download speeds as opposed to a consistent 9kbps DL with the ICS LP1 radio. Yes, 9kbps!! WTH!!
Right now, this ICS bandwagon is still new so I will have to revisit this rom along with other roms that can work with the Straight Talk service.
I am curious what carrier service are you using with your GNote in California and your data DL speeds?
Mabuhay y'all!!!

i was thinking of doing a cf root flash with cwm then using the jig to reset the counter...comparing methods for the s2 and the note, i guess the note still had the ability for zergrush exploit (which i never used before)...i cant (or am lazy) find any bootloaders or new fw with bootloads with are reset-able using a jig...anyways i found a link here for that but i have to flash a zip just to use the jig...a tad complicated

AT&T Note II - post release date and where to buy information

This is what is of particular interest to some of us. Please post information relevant to just the upcoming US AT&T version.

i hoping note2 release the same day as idiotphone5.
att always release multi phones on the same day!
What I want to know is if there is any difference between the att note and the International note. Doesn't seem like it so far.

it has an lte radio.
I think he was referring to whether it was gonna keep the exynos quad.

Supposedly it will still have quad core & 2 megs ram with LTE. Gonna be a monster. My next phone for sure.
The only thing that bothers me is that I have not seen the FCC reports but usually come out before a phone is released...
But I haven't been following it as closely as I was with the note 1...

It looks like the days of Qualcomm-based mutant derpbeasts are over.
http://vr-zone.com/articles/samsung...ipset-shows-up-in-korean-galaxy-s3/16442.html
There is finally an LTE/GSM dual-mode modem available from someone other than Qualcomm.
People have occasionally said "the Exynos 4 Quad isn't compatible with LTE" - This is false. Nothing in the CPU makes it incompatible/compatible - the only issue was that until recently, Qualcomm was the only company that had LTE/GSM combo basebands available, and Qualcomm won't sell their modems to someone not using their CPU.
A non-Qualcomm baseband chip changes everything.
I probably should've noticed this long ago - but CMC221 references have been cropping up in Samsung's source releases for a while now.
Edit: CMC221 seems to be an older chipset, there's a lot of conflicting info on exactly what is going on. Either way, it looks like Samsung now has access to SOME sort of baseband chipset that isn't from Qualcomm, OR Qualcomm has changed policies and is now selling LTE basebands that can be paired with non-Qcom CPUs.

Unknown. I need to do a lot of research. I've been really angry with AT&T's handling of Samsung devices, to the point where my plan until today was to ditch them for Straight Talk combined with international unlocked devices when my contract was up.
Nonmutilated LTE devices might change this... I'm still not sure, it still remains to be seen whether this new generation of LTE chips doesn't have the severe battery life penalties older LTE implementations did. Also, I'm not eligible for an upgrade until February and I really don't want to give the asshats at AT&T money for a full-price device just for a feature I likely won't use.
If ONLY the AT&T variant is capable of AT&T LTE - Maybe (I live in the boonies, I won't see LTE for a long time)
If the international variant supports the AT&T LTE bands - Hell no for the AT&T variant (say no to unjustified carrier mangling), possibly for the international variant.
Cant wait to see whats up with this on att! Glad i have an upgrade. If it is guad i will give my mom my s3!

same. I have a SGS2 with a cracked screen. At&t already said they will allow me to use my wife's upgrade, but i don't know if i want to wait for the N2....but maybe i should. I almost jumped on the S3 this weekend, but i didn't. I had my reservations about the rediculousness of using the Note as a phone, but then again, i've made probably 2 calls on my S2 in 10 months. So I may have answered my own question.
Can we stick to some useful posts on when the device is coming out not whether people want it..?

Current rumors indicate it has the quad.
They appear 'hardware equivalent' enough that I wonder if you can flash international ROMS onto it.
I guess that's a pipe dream though, since it has a different model #, implying different hardware somewhere.
The N7000 was fun that you could flash different country's roms onto it - less waiting for new features.
I guess at this point I guess it'll mainly depend on when it gets released to AT&T.

I know and remember when I had my gs2, due to the similarities with the international, we could flash international rooms through hell raising. I'm sure it'll be the same, and come on entropy....you know you want it.....we want you.

It may be similar enough to only require a porting package.
For example, these were the differences between the SGH-I777 and GT-I9100:
I777 had a different call audio interface to the modem - I9100 modems and kernels would not work, but only a few kernel changes were needed to fix the kernel side of things.
I777 had a different microphone configuration - Swapping libaudio out would fix this initially, with ICS I reverse engineered it to the point where only a kernel change was needed
I777 had NFC - If you didn't mind it not working (note: did not work on I777 firmwares ANYWAY), didn't need to do anything when flashing an I9100 firmware. Actually, thanks to the I9100P it was easier to get NFC working on I9100 ports than I777 bases...
I777 had the typical USA touchkey configuration - needed a small kernel change and a keylayout change
The above meant that it was possible to develop a nearly universal porting tool for all Gingerbread firmwares, and once ICS kernel source was released, same for ICS firmwares. The main disadvantage was you couldn't do anything with I9100 leaks - kernel source was required.
CDMA users will be screwed - too many differences for a GSM firmware to ever have any hope of being cleanly ported to a CDMA device. (Exception being AOSP bringups.)
