Hopefully this hasn't been noted already. I use the stock messaging widget and click on it to quick-view my new texts, then hit reply to enter the "quick-text" which pre-fills in the recipient.
The problem I'm having is that when I use Swype as the input method in this box, it seems to lag and sometimes puts spaces in the wrong places, or punctuation before a word (as opposed to after). It appears that what's happening is that I'll 'swype' a word, it will bring up the selection list, and I'll hit a period. Normally this would insert the first-selected word and then a period, but in the quick-text, it appears to enter the period before auto-selecting the word from the list. This also happens where it will type the first letter of a word, put a space, then the rest of the word combined with the following word. For example "how a reyou" shows up often. The overall response time of using Swype as input for this seems slow and laggy.
I'm just curious if anyone else has encountered this or if there's a fix.
I think I've seen a screenshot of someone's phone trying to type in Skype in the stock Moto messaging widget and having a ton of gibberish in the input box, so I don't think it's just your phone.
I guess I'm kinda glad about that. Hopefully they fix it. I've just been trying to avoid using it, but it's so convenient.
When I first started using swype I was having all kinds of spaces and lag. Now that I'm running launcher pro everything is running smooth and I haven't had any lag problems. I also messed with some of the settings for swype.

This is for those who don't feel comfortable upgrading to a cooked ROM and want to preserve their warranties. If this has been mentioned, mods, feel free to delete thread.
So when Swype is used to create text messages, it needs all messages from that contact to load prior to being used. Any contact conversation that has over ~100 texts (inbound/outbound) will require a dumb amount of time to load prior to you using Swype. I absolutely love Swype and all qwerty methods of input seem ancient and insufficient after using it.
So, since I realized the loading of messages was the culprit, I simply switched over to traditional mode. When you receive a text, click the messaging home screen tab, go "All Messages", "Menu", "Settings" and choose "Traditional Mode". I'm sure many of you are aware that it exists and have been using it. So, when replying, I tap the messaging home screen tab, go to "All Messages", "Inbox", tap on the new text, "Menu" and "Reply". This allows Swype to only load that specific text, eliminating the lag or wait time typically needed in "Conversational Mode". I am now using Swype with contacts who have +1,000 messages with zero lag.
This may seem like a few extra steps just to reply to a text, but ultimately, it comes down to what you want out of it. I tend to be a rather lengthy text messenger and can fly with Swype, so the time it takes to navigate to a reply is far less than the time it would take to type out a message using an input method other than Swype.
This thread is only for those who are waiting for a firmware/Sense UI fix from HTC TMOUS and I don't deem this any type of permanent solution. I apologize if this has already been mentioned and if so, as previously stated, mods please delete/lock. Hopefully this sheds some relief to those of you irritated with Swype and the fact that it takes so long to load in "Conversational Mode".
If you want to keep conversation mode.
When you go to your messages and it is starting load, quickly hit send then say no to sending a blank sms message. Amazingly it has been completely loaded.
Hmm. I have heard of that method as well, but didn't seem to work for me. Hopefully others will find either way useful.
It works for me but I've noticed that the more messages you have in a thread, you have to do it more than once to get all the texts to load. I just really hate the traditional mode. What I really dont get is if we have a workaround for this then why cant the app do it automaticaly?! Maybe someone can or already did discover a reg tweak to change this! Time to search the forums!!
Has anyone experienced an issue in the HTC Messages app where you tap a message thread, and the green highlight suddenly jumps to another thread entirely and opens that? I've been experiencing this issue more and more lately and it's getting quite frustrating. I'm not really interested in switching apps...tried Handcent and didn't really like it. Stock app is reliable and functional. Curious if there's a way to alleviate this.
Yes...mine has been starting to do that aswell. Not sure what the cause it...but I never experienced it until a week or two ago. I almost sent a text to the wrong person and it would have been very, very bad.
happens to me to
i have the same issue. it also happens when i have to click and hold for deleting and calling that person. also before the update with scrolling through the thread of messages it would spazz to the bottom before i could do anything
Happens to me more often than not. I'm constantly catching myself about to send texts to the wrong people.
this isn't the same issue but i couldn't type at all. I'd click the box to reply to a message and the keyboard would pop up (i use swype) but i couldn't do anything. then i switched back to the regular keyboard and when i started to type a search box popped up at the top and started typing there, ignoring the already open text input box. I had to type my message in the search box then copy and paste it into the message box. Force closing the app then redoing it worked fine.
some thing screwy with this app...

if you're using a task killer, make sure that swype is on the ignore list, or it could get killed, and then needs to be restarted for it to show up (I believe).
I'm also having the issues with the touch jumping. It's usually from the second person from the top, jumping down to the second to bottom in the stock msging app
Hi all!
I'm starting a new thread about my problem because the two other ones i found did not give me any answer or clue. They are (at least) 2 months old and there's no news about that.
The old threads can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885271

I have this problem: When I try to write a text message with the physical keyboard, the screen start to "scroll up" in the conversation after a couple of seconds.
After some tests, here's what I can tell about the problem:
-I use HTC Sense messaging app
-Screens jumps a little bit IF i slide out the keyboard AFTER selecting the contact
-It can't be the trackball to me, (lot of people are saying that it is trackball related) because if you try to "scroll up" or down with the trackball while typing a message, it do not scroll the whole page, but only between your message's lines.
-Sometimes, it scrolls the page up AND unselect the message box, so pressing "delete" will offer you to delete messages (instead of deleting the last character you wrote), and some keys open a new message, etc.
-I tried with "Touch Input" and Swype as the software keyboard and it seems to be unrelated to the software keyboard (I get the problem with both of them)
-It seems to happen to me in EVERY conversation (even conversations with less than 50 messages, contrary to what some peoples says)
-It scroll up in two times, the first time I can see the "send" button a little bit and the second one I can't see the message box anymore. It always jump to the SAME point (with 10 messages or with 200..) the second "jump" occurs 1 second after the first one.
-It is REALLY annoying.
Here's infos on my cellphone:
Bell's HTC Desire Z (canada) with official ROM (not rooted) version 1.84.666.2 (On Android 2.2.1)
I'm using it in French with French Canadian Keyboard.
If someone find a solution (other than switch to another messaging app) i'll be really happy!!
UPDATE: I was having two more software keyboard, "Wifi Keyboard" (installed by Remote Web Desktop) and an unworking Gingerbread keyboard app. (The gingerbread keyboard whas installed a long time after the problem starts), I uninstalled both of them and seems to have no more problems. I'll test some applications and thing and will update this thread once I have a "final answer" on it!
I did a lot if test and it seems that with swype selected, it happens EVERYTIME I slide out the keyboard AFTER selecting a contact or a message.
If swype is not selected, it happens sometimes, but a lot less. Is there a solution to this? I'm not using swype so it do not matter to me, but i would like to fix this annoying bug

Yes I know how you feel.
Sadly, the only workaround I've found to minimise the jumps is by going to the list of messages first in landscape mode (keyboard out) before selecting the thread. It's not 100% foolproof but I found it cuts the phenomenon down significantly with my European Desire Z.
I'm hoping the promised upgrade to gingerbread may finally put this one to bed.
Just a quick update: I've uninstalled Swype Beta completely (rather then keeping it installed as an option) as I was hardly using it. Seems to have made a difference to how often the jumping occurs.

I get this in the messsaging app Only on Sense though....

i think its an android general issue i remember having the same problem with my xperia x10 and it happened also on an omnia ii i ported eclair to, so yeah...
This is a known issue. It has to do with ambient light hitting the black touchpad. It causes the screen to inadvertantly jump up. I had this problem before. When ever you see it happening just move the touchpad out of the light or cover it with your hand and it should be fine.

After my 4th g2 and a month with it, it starts happening to me here in the no airport =/

So what's the REAL solution here? It happens every time for me and it has nothing to do with light...?
I like almost everything about the stock email app. One thing that really bugs me is a word correction bug for the keyboard, Swype.
Typically with Swype when you see a word that's wrong, you tap it, it becomes highlighted, and a list of suggestions pops up for replacements. If none of the suggested words are correct, you swype it again and it replaces the highlighted word.
However in the email app, the word is not replaced, but another word is inserted wherever the cursor is. Then if you tap elsewhere, you get a word inserted wherever you tapped. So to edit text, you have to manually move the cursor to the end of the word you want to replace, delete it, then re-type or re-swype it.
Anyone else bugged by this? It doesn't happen anywhere else.
for me this happens not only in email, it happens in messages too! as i see it it's some sort of bug which occurs after a while of usage. after a reboot it works again as it should (highlights the selected word, replaces it with the choosen one)...

Interesting. I never use Messages (I use Handcent instead) so I've never seen it there. The bug isn't erratic for me; it never works properly in Email.
Edit: Actually I just tested my stock messaging app and I don't have the bug there.
BTW, this bug has persisted from stock whatever was on the phone back at the beginning of November when I unboxed it through now, with LA4 on it.
I am using the stock ICS release that was pushed to my wifi Xoom. While I love it over HC I am noticing some inconsistenies in the way the keyboard behaves across applications. For example
e-mail
This is the best, as you type the characters appear both in the email and in blue just above the keyboard suggestions for the word appear from which you can select the correct one. If you ignore suggestions and the word still isn't known it's underlined in red and if you press the word, you get a pop up list of words that it thinks it could be. You can add to the dictionary or delete the word.
Google+
No suggestions in blue above the keyboard but if you enter a word it doesn't know it's highlighted in red and once again pressing the word offers a pop up list of words with the option to choose, add to the dictionary or delete
Google Voice
Same behaviour as with email - this is good
Browser in a Javascript enabled edit form
This is very variable and was terrible in HC with lag etc.
Works fine in the XDA forum now - same behaviour as in email which is great.
But on this forum www.googletvforum.com - very laggy typing, no spell check and no popup. This BBS uses vBulletin so it might be with all vBulletin sites.
Just wondering what others have been experiencing.
Yes. And it really sucks.
The g+ app is where I notice it the most.
Pretty sure it works everywhere else for me tho.
Running EOS stingray47 with gapps 10.5.
However this was also a problem on HC. So I tend to blame the app more so than the OS.
