Mine it set to ask on connection, as I don't want it always to be connected to kies.
So when I plug in my cable, it opens a screen asking which of the 3 I want, and when selecting kies, it still doesn't see the device.

USB to PC was not available in the earlier ROMs. You need to upgrade. By the way what functionality are you missing because of the absence of this icon?
Thank you for reply fastly but i have a problem that the pc can not see the mobile i did evry thing in the forums but no way the computer see it as unknow device and the active sync dosnt see the mople i know its a big problem

Please see if the usb connection is enabled in your active sync. Please uninstall AS and download and install the latest version of AS (AS 4.5). Also try to connect on another PC. The USB to PC icon you have mentioned has only one option in it to enable / disable enhanced features. Mine is in the disabled mode yet everything works fine. So the problem appears to be elsewhere. Also change the cable and see. In my friend's PC the device would not connect through the frount mounted USB ports of the PC but worked perfectly with one of the rear ports. Keep experimenting you will surely succeed.

Make sure you are using an original cable, not a replacement as some cables do not work as they do not have all the pins wired.
If the computer is recognising it as an "unknown device", that may be more of a problem. I agree that you should download the most recent version of AS(4.5) and let us know how you get on.

Just got my samsung focus and also just downloaded the zune software. Im having a problem getting the music to go to my phone.
I have ares music downloader where all my music is, my brother sent all his music to itunes, and i am sending the music from ares to zune. When he sends his music to itunes to his iphone it goes through pefectly fine.
When i send my music from ares to zune then to my phone it says Cant purchase due to a temporary service error. Please try again later. Why is it saying this, is it trying to make me purchase music i have already payed for again??
Ok I've been using a Zune since the first Zune 30 Gb came out so here's what you need to check.
1) Make sure your zune software is pointing to your music libraries by going into Settings/Software/Collection there you will be able to manage what Music, Video, Pictures, and Podcast libraries you want the software to see. Now the other thing you might want to look at is your phone's sync settings. I have everything set to "Items I choose" because I don't want everything syncing over. In settings select phone. There you can choose how and what to sync.
2) now to get music on your phone, if your libraries are correct all your music should show up in the collection tab which is located at the top with quickplay, marketplace, and social. Once there you can select and drag and drop the music you want on to your phone. The other way which I find easier, is to make a playlist of the music you like then drag and drop the playlist to your phone. Then the music will be synced over per what's on your playlist.
Hope this helps.
Well another thing is when i go to zune software its not even finding the phone anymore, its saying please connect device
How are you connecting your phone? USB or Wifi?

It should start the zune software when you hook it up using usb, I don't do the wifi sync because I rather have it charging while syncing. If not you might have to un install and re install the zune software.

Wi-fi sync requires that your phone is charging. Instead of plugging into the computer, you're plugging it into the wall adapter.
Im plugging it in with the usb connector straight into the computer

1) Restart your phone
2) Restart your computer
3) Try plugging the usb cable into a different USB port

If it has to charge while using wifi then why use it, you need your computer anyways to sync it. lol
things to try:
Unlock your phone
If Screen Lock is enabled on your phone and this is the first time you have connected your phone to your computer, or if you are connecting your phone as a guest to a new computer, unlock your phone first. To do this, turn your phone on and then flick your finger upward on your phone's screen until you can see the keypad for entering your password. Then enter your password.
Name and update your phone
If this is the first time connecting your phone, you must first give it a name and check for updates after you are prompted. If you click Cancel you will have to disconnect and reconnect your phone.
Restart your computer
Disconnect your phone from your PC, restart your computer, and then reconnect your phone to your computer using the USB cable that came with your phone.
Restartyour phone
Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds until the message "Goodbye!" appears. Press the Power button to turn the phone on again.
Note If the phone does not turn off normally, remove and then reinsert the battery.
Try another USB port
Connect your phone to a USB port on the back of your computer. Do not use a USB hub.
Note Be sure to use the USB cable that came with your phone.
Examine Windows Device Manager
Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
Click Device Manager.
Click the root computer icon at the top of the list and then click Scan for hardware changes under the Action menu. Windows Phone 7 should be listed under Portable Devices. If Windows Phone 7 was installed incorrectly, it may be listed with a yellow exclamation mark (!). Or, it may be listed under Other Devices as a USB device or an unknown device.
Double-click the phone icon and then click the Driver tab. The current version of the driver that is installed should be 4.7.965.0.
Update your driver
If Windows Device Manager indicates a device problem or if the driver version of Windows Phone 7 that is installed is not the current version, you must update the driver. To do this, follow these steps:
On the Driver tab, click Uninstall.
If it is displayed, click to select Delete the driver software for this device and then click OK.
Click the root computer icon, and then click Scan for hardware changes on the Action menu.
Open Portable Devices, double-click your Windows Phone 7, and then click the Driver tab.
Click Update Driver.
Click Browse my computer for driver software.
Click Browse, locate the Program Files/Zune/Drivers folder on your computer, and then click OK.
Click Next and if you are prompted, click Install.
After the driver installation is complete, click Close two times to exit the Device Manager. If you are prompted to do so, restart your computer.
If all that doesn't work, I would un-install and re-install the Zune software.
well i got it to work but i had to get the zune pass to do it. Just using the trial version right now.
Seems very silly though i already have all my music on my computer from ares downloader that i already pay for, i send the music to zune just fine. I think its trying to make me buy my music twice which is pretty dumb i must say

Because some people would prefer to not to have their phone attached to their computer. Perhaps someone wants to leave their phone with their keys and stuff so he/she can grab all of their stuff they need to leave their house at once.
Or, in my case, plugging my phone into the computer can lead to all of the USB devices plugged directly into my motherboard losing power. Yes, that's a very niche issue, but it's still a use-case that makes WiFi Sync useful.
That would mean your powersupply isn't giving the board enough power then, or go with a powered hub route. Don't know if it's me, but I notice the phone taking longer to charge when the wifi and bluetooth are on.
I just plugged my Galaxy 10.1 into my Window XP computer, and I initially got a message that new hardware is found, but the hardware wizard launches and says it can't find the appropriate drivers. When I go into My Computer, there is no drive icon for my tab (yes, I have the USB cable plugged in).
Can anybody tell me what to do so I can transfer some videos to my tab?
Thanks.
Install Samsung kies and try again,

Thanks. I installed Kies, and my tablet was recognized, although there is still no drive letter or icon in My Computer. I transferred a video into Kies, and I was able to play it in Kies, but for some reason I can't transfer the video to my Galaxy tab. This is very frustrating.

I'm now getting a message to "Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies."
I must be dumb.
So, the Samsung galaxy 10.1 currently doesn't function correcty as mass storage device when connected to win xp, and Samsung acknowledges this when I supoke with their tech support. It does work properly when connected to Win 7 (and Vista according to Samsung tech support).
see original thread regarding this @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178458
It does not function as a USB Mass Storage class device EVER under ANY operating system. (If it supported USB Mass Storage, it wouldn't need drivers and it would work without any effort on XP. That is the definition of the USB Mass Storage class.)
It is an MTP device - unfortunately only Vista/7 support MTP.
There is a workaround - Droid Explorer at http://de.codeplex.com/ provides a nice user interface layered over ADB (USB Debugging mode). ADB is much more widely supported than MTP.

Wow, I thought I was going crazy. Thanks for the info! Luckily, I have Win 7 on my laptop.
I loaded the second file (USB) drivers from samsung support downloads for the 10.1,
then made sure the power is on on the tablet when connecting, it shows up as a drive on my WinXP machine.

Interesting. Could you please provide a link to driver download? I searched the Samsung site and could not find them. Thanks.
Getting frustrated
OK, so I plugged my Samsung into my Windows 7 laptop, and it tells me it won't work because I don't have the drivers. But I don't know where to find them. Can somebody help me out here? Thanks.

Update:
I am totally disgusted. I did a Windows update on my laptop while my Samsung 10.1 was plugged in, and was able to install some Samsung Composite USB drivers. But Windows will still not recognize my tablet. I know there's a solution to this, I just need somebody to point me in the right direction.

After spending much of the day researching this problem on many forums, the solution turned out to be a simple one. In fact, I can't believe nobody chimed in with the answer.
I'm going to post the fix here now for the benefit of others who might have this file-transfer problem. If your (Windows 7, Vista) computer won't recognize your Galaxy Tab, on the tab go into your Settings, Applications, Development, and uncheck USB debugging. It is as simple as that. Now when you plug in your tablet, your computer will immediately recognize it. Open up My Computer on your computer, and double-click on the tablet icon (mine is actually a phone icon). Drag and drop files into the window and wait for them to transfer (note: video files take a long time).
Have fun.
Hi everyone,
This is my first post about my Note 4, and I'm really frustrated.
All I wanted to do was transfer some music to the SD card on my phone, and I've just wasted the entire evening and have nothing to show for it.
I'm running Windows 8.1 on my PC and Android 5.0.1 on my Verizon phone. When I connect via USB, a popup in the system tray says that it has identified a Samsung File-Stor Gadget USB Device and assigns it drive letter F:.
However, almost instantly, Windows decides that my phone is a modem! USB Safely Remove and Device Manager both call it a Samsung Mobile USB Modem, and Explorer does not show a drive F:.
The Notification dropdown displays "Connected as a media device", and when I tap on it, I can see that "USB computer connection set to Media device (MTP)" is checked.
I installed the latest version of Samsung Kies on my PC and ran it, but it fails to connect to the phone.
Can anybody tell me what's going on? Thanks!
P.S. Ironically enough, even though I can't do anything, I can't stop the device because adb.exe has the connection locked!
Card reader is less hassle. Cables as you know are unstable at times.
I would try going into Device Manager (or maybe Devices and Printers) in the Control panel, right clicking your device and uninstalling it.
Reboot and let Windows detect the device again when your reconnect the phone.

Good idea, but I checked and it wasn't there. When I connect, a new Modems entry is created in Device Manager, but when I disconnect it disappears.
I might have to go w7excursion's route. Thank you both for your suggestions.
I have turned on debug mode (not the first time doing this and has worked before on this phone) where I would see my Samsung S6 Edge plus show up as a media drive on my pc so I can transfer files back and forth but now this does not work no matter what I do. any reason? is there issues with this phone? - keep in mind my phone is factory stock, not rooted or loaded with any third party rom.
Could be windows problem, have you tried with other android phones?
When you plug the phone in does it come up with a message saying charging? If so tap in it and see if you need to change it to MTP
Sounds like the drivers. Try out this link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jze4q58cspwnjwh/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.zip?dl=1
