Hi,
I've a HTC Touch (Elf), but Windows Mobile 6 is orrible imho
I'm finding a rom/porting of Android/Ubuntu Mobile/Linux for my Elf....
someone can help me?
I don't want stay with Windows Mobile please...
best thing to do would be to sell your phone and buy a phone with OS you want. there are some chinese phones with linux. they are also dual sim and they look and feel nice. not to mention price is way lower than htc devices.
i don't think you can find rom based on linux/ubuntu/android or anything for your phone because there is no hardware drivers for this OS.
if you want to see progress on porting android to kaiser (htc tytn II), take a look at this thread. but don't forget this is for KAISER ONLY. this is not android rom, but just some kind of emulation. however there is nice proggress on this project and we might have fully functional android on our phones. also important thing to know is that android itself isn't quite finished.
Hey!
As i've previously mentioned here once (I think), i started a small forum where I tried to gather all the setups for running Android on various HTC models. Now that the HTC G1 (Dream) is soon released, we will will get some very interesting challenges while trying to build Android ROM's, etc..
This forum is great, but its also very big. Thought that it might be a good idea to have our android resources on a separate forum?
Anyways, thought i could register a domain and such, but for now the forum is at http://www.connect-utb.com/htcandroid
Some of you are there already! Hopefully, with the experienced user base we have here, we can get Android ROMS and whatnot for our HTC models, as the HTC Dream looks rather poor. (Although better devices will surely come in the future).
you must be joking. Android is a total OS unlike apps that we see all over which are portable among HTC devices. It takes months alone just to get Android as it is today for the kaiser. Mostly everything for WM can be ported among other devices which some exceptions to nontouch devices. It'll be a long time until you see Android ported over to more devices than now. My suggestion would be to use a device that's got android projects already in progress or at your nearest convenience to buy a device with android on it.
Think we misunderstand each other, but you dont believe that if we can extract the android ROM from the HTC Dream, and modify and install it on lets say, the Kaiser?
You can always try before saying that it isn't going to work.
I will track this post because i'm very curious by the Android OS.
I get it...and completely understand what this is about...it's HTC...which means theoretically we should be able to at least somewhat get it working...I've started a wizard thread on your new forum in hopes that any information or progress getting it ported over gets posted all in one location for easy access....kudo's for thinking ahead as I dont think android is going anywhere soon and while this forum is very useful it's mostly for winmo devices....nothing wrong with speading the wings a lil bit and branching out...
looking forward to the press conference!!
I would say we should be able to get Android to run on the OS level of our devices, but it will probably need a bit of modifying. However, since it's open source I'm hoping the modifying will be a lot easier because of this.
Hey,
I was just on HTC homepage ( htc.com ), where the G1 is shown.
They printed the specs, which are very similar to the diamond
Same chipset, same rom size, same ram size,...
SO I think, it would be ( maybe easily?) possible to port android to the diamond

Same here!
If my memory does not fail, I remember that one of the first peaks at Android was being run in a Blue Angel. So, I guess there is a big chance that we might in fact be able to see Android running on more than one device (of course, you will have more or less features depending on the device's capabilities and hardware limitations, namely apps that work with an accelerometer, etc).
Maybe, the development should be worth following because as much as I don't want to believe it, my device (Blue Angel) will only trick death for so long (by death I mean not being able to move to newer versions of WM) and we will need a way to pass the time .
HTC Touch Vogue in progress of being ported
Hey don't forget about the senior member "DZO" that started ANDROID porting to HTC Vogue and it is Successful
This is his direct link to the files : http://cs-alb-pc3.massey.ac.nz/vogue
And here is the link to the posting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382265
I think he did a GREAT job porting Android. I am running Android 0.9 with most of the featuress except installing programs but only because he is the only one that does that. So, he needs help! I am sure... Plus, on this site people are cheeping in for HTC Diamond so he can work on that too...
Here is the link: http://www.myhtcphone.com
So, if you want something done we should start by contributing either money, or programming support! I wish I knew how to program this
ahhhh I wish I would have fully functional Android on my HTC
Thanks for the support! The forums are slightly active now!
Hopefully, we will be able to get Android running more or less flawless soon! As pointed out, its possible!
he he nice link, it seems that there are allready htc devices running with android.
just wondering, is it possible to have dual boot in one device ?
hmmm, seems to have no desktop syncing.. this may be a huge set back for anyone trying to get androig running on another HTC device.

well currently (or in the case of the vogue) android is being booted via haret (a linux bootloaded) running on top of windows mobile.. so i guess its already kind of dual boot
For now, Android has to be run from within Windows Mobile, so no true dual boot yet
Already started
Hey you guys might want to check out the following links. Over at PPC Geeks they already have a thread going:

Diamond doesnt have QWERTY keyboard, so i think it could be on Touch Pro instead
Someone ported Android for BlueAngel?
Please can someone tell me if Android is already running in BlueAngel? If there is a way show me how. Thanks Man!!!
Maybe I'm mistaken, but wasn't Android made so that it can run on a wide range of devices. I, for one, can't wait till its ported to samsung omnia. Damn, that would be good!
@Coldheat,
What does the cab file do? Its an OS, so cab file??
Has anyone even made an attempt to put the iphone firmware on a g1 or adp1? I know the chances of it even flashing are slim to none, but has anyone made an attempt? And yes I know it might take a diffrent bootloader, and maybe spl
edit: if i inspired anyone to go and try to find a way,get hardSPL and go for it
Seriously? Buy an iPhone if you want it. Buy a PPC if you want WM. Buy a G1 if you want ANDROID!
i did buy a g1 for android, but i always wondered how it compares to iphone, and i dont have the $999.99(cheapest unlocked price found on shopsavvy) for an unlocked iphone

I don't think you'll ever see iPhone OS or WM ported to G1. Might have to go play with an iPhone at the store.
There are no apple stores arround me,and there are some demo iphones inside my local walmart but the employes always say "you can't use that" and then push me away from It. :\
wtf.

Not going to happen. Move on.
firmware is soo customized embedded software for a device
so if one managed to flash it to another device whichs did not have
100% all the same hardware down to the model of the diff component
it would brick the device
but luckey for people who would try something like that
most rom flash tools would never alow one to flash a non valid firmware on to it
unlike back in the day where i managed to flash the bios on my motherboard with a
game for my hp48 calc
works about as well as if you flashed a iphone rom on a htc dream device
LOL Not to mention have you ever tried just loading Mac on a x86 PC? LOL the headaches for that are huge, wouldn't even want to try on a mobile platform.

Actually, I'm running Leopard on my x86 laptop and the experience is excellent! Of course, that's because much of my laptop's hardware is already similar to those in Macbooks.
I'm fairly sure that the same cannot be said with the G1 and the iPhone, however.

I have installed Leopard on 3 computers, 1 was excellent and didn't even need any drivers, the other two needed a full list of things installed including editing in the command line.

Yeah, I've ended up having 3 different laptops over the course of a year (I had battery problems on one and the RAM blew out on another) but my current Acer laptop works almost perfectly with OS X. The only things that aren't currently working are my S-Video port and my Audio In/Out system (speakers work fine with the AzaliaAudio kext).
But back to topic: I don't think that anybody's going to bother with the iPhone version of OS X on the Dream. In theory, you could run VMware Workstation on a Debian install and then emulate OS X and then install Xcode and develop your own apps and run them, but I'm assuming that the G1 does not have the capability to be able to run 4 Operating Systems (Android, Debian, OS X, and iPhoneOS) at the same time...

..buy a standard iphone, like the original, roughly 200 bucks on ebay for an ok condition. Unlock it yourself its super easy (pineapple your phone ^^)
I'm going to port my Wii to my gphone. Just imagine, as soon as I can get an accelerometer installed in the g1 I should be good to go
</sarcasm>
...not sure if the accelerometer comment was a joke or not, seeing as how the phone already has one..?
^-^'
I'm just trying to get a genesis emulator working...I have some progress I think..but soon! I hope..
i dont think it would work..the G1 has these thing that we call "buttons" that the iphone simply does not have...wouldnt work i say!
This will never come to be so I am locking it. Not only is the iPhone software closed-source it is illegal to flash another device with it.
I have been using WM based device over five years and now, I would like to try something new.
It seems that the HTC Click is an easy start with Android, but I am just curious that is it ever possible to flash WM6.5 rom on Click just in case I cant get use to Android?
I'm no chef or developer or anything but my guess would be no.
Been using HTC diamond for last two years and they havn't fully got android working on that because of driver issues, so cannot see WM working on an even newer phone.
wtf would you wanna do that for?
that too lol
jamezelle , man ask some simple and logical question. why f word here? are you payed from somebody? millions are used to windows mobile. meaby only percent want not to change habits and you attack many people for no reason.
i also want to buy tatto , here is free with some contact, but if i can switch to wm.
dont YOU ask me why.
if somebody polite can ask i would give only couple reason:
1. i cannot live without total commander. and dont want to spend life in searching how to add it on andriod, if is possible at all?
2. also TCPMP
3. also meaby tomtom is what i prefer for gps
4. i like resco photo viewer
5. and sound recorder
6. also MANY simple utitlities i want to add too , like conversation recorder ...
7. also curious to see improvement in performance from my p3300 regarding processor and memory
8. not your bussines with your atacking aproach...
WOW! you're the one on the attack here, I agree with Jamezelle & judging by the reasons you posted, why not just stick to a windows mobile device?
I amazes me that people would post on an Android board asking how to make it run windows & expect not to get this kind of response?
Try going on an apple forum & asking if you can run windows on the iphone
People are being light hearted here (notice the smiley on the end of his reply?) but Seriously, if you really can't live without WM apps buy a WM phone (or contact the developer to ask if they considered an android version), if you want to change to Android then more power to you, go buy a cheap Android handset & keep both until you are 100% sure, T-mobile UK sell them on P.A.Y.G.
They are designed to run the OS they are shipped with, you cant really complain that it wont do stuff the other does.
Don't forget WM has been around a lot longer so there are bound to be more apps, in the very short time Android has been out it has done some wonderful things & in time (I believe) it will become the number 1 OS as more companies develop software for it.
I started on Android, changed to WM, then back to Android & many people here run both.
A serious & informative answer was given in the 1st reply. Did it really need to go this far?
NO, Windows OS or Apps wont run on an Android handset...
...AND THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT!!!!
Ok. more resonable answer, Thanks
i just think if nobody of wm users dont complain for possibility of android running on "wm devices" (seen this on Tilt , www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxcdSsmmKz8 )why would you guys complain?
i just like Tattoo device. and becaouse of your attitude i will certainly never have oportunity to have afordable great device (like tattoo)
But You can have win devices as i know. not fair . that is the point.
(sorry for eng)
ok . i'm out
i'w got answers, argue don;t lead anywhere...
all the best for all of us
why buying an android phone when late wm phones are same $$$ and fit better to a WM OS?
another thing is having an WM for the last year, and with the late release of android, wanting to flash to android
i got a htc winmo device from 2007 and Android has given it more life...especially the Tattoo Rom..gtta love sense UI on qvga..whats that? More HTC qvga android phones for 2010. Maybe I can wait for winmo 7 after all.
i have the solution
send me your tatoo
ill send you my htc touch mk 1
fair swap
you get windows
i get anotheR lovely android device !!
(( no but seriously the apps you want i can sort of agree with, file managers on android are a whole new thing when your used to win-mob, maybe try linda file manager or astro its just a getting used to process... or we can swap ! ))

htc tattoo clone running WM ?
Hello,
I have found this 3 month old news:
http://www.clonedinchina.com/2010/01/htc-tattoo-clone-touch-g4-runs-windows-mobile.html
Is this Windows mobile ROM compatible with the HTC Tattoo ?
If it is compatible, can someone upload this Windows mobile ROM ?
Thank you
Problem is, that this clone doesn't need to have the same hardware equipment as the original one (because of the drivers). But I know that the pendant of the tattoo (HTC Touch2) has nearly the same HW equipment...maybe this could be of any help?

Hi, I'm thinking of how to port android or linux system to TG01, I do think it's possible, but not sure since I've never port android or moblin before.
Here are some of my thoughts:
First, a dual boot software might be used to ensure TG01 won't brick in case of port failure.
Then, can we dump the rom of Nexous one?
Furthermore, is it possbile to use the rom of winmo drives for android system?
Guys interested or skilled in android or linux system or , make contribution please!
The start to both (though it think that you were thinking of MeeGo not Moblin, which was x86 only) is a working Linux kernel.
HaRET is the tool to start the work on a working kernel, and a working kernel is what we need before we even start worrying about a dual boot bootloader.
Dumping Nexus One might help, but I believe it's not the right way. XDAndroid might be a nice starting point for the Android ecosystem, but not necessarily for the kernel. Otherwise I believe that there are some people that work on the HTC HD2, which is a Snapdragon device as well (though there are some differences (e.g. the TG01 has less Ram and most likely different WiFi, bluetooth, accelerometer or whatever chips)).
(I would like to help, but I am no programmer and not experienced with kernel stuff, but I could help with setting up a wiki and trying out stuff)
Please please please have a go. I can't help with anything except a small donation, as the reason I'm going to buy a TG01 is purely because I can't afford an HTC phone at the moment. I was really happy to see a section on the TG1 on here, which was the other reason I decided to go non-HTC.
Thanks to all of you. I can't accept any donation now.
Is there anybody want to set up such a project to port android on TG01?
I already wrote about this in the general section since the way we are trying to run linux/android is not with a rom but over the curent os.
Check this thread I posted it has more info:

maybe we need to make a detailed research first and then figure out a way to start
in my opinion it would be great.
I played with HTC Magic some time and I must say that Android is awesome. Android's applications are so great and free. We have to be honest WM has nothing if we compare it to Android or Iphone's OS. In WM market we can buy crapp for a lot of money and Android's free great apps in other hands. TG01 and Android would be perfect match
Have a go...
I use HTC HERO as my primary devise and Toshiba TG01 as my secondary device. To be honest Win Mo does not do justice and dsnt fully utilize the ability of the hardware available. Android is mind blowing with regards to the usability and specially because of the number of useful free apps on offer. . Android is the way to go. It can transform this device from a looser to an absolute winner. I bought the device for £139 with Android it would be a steal..
Thank you so much. Keep up the good work. Unfortunately I contribute in any manner except donating for the efforts because I am not experienced in this.
Same i do i came from iphone OS and using htc magic android, and i love thousand apps for iphone and android and quality of theese ; so id like anybody could make something like this.
TG01 is a great device but is quite short in software by now.
