Guide: How to BT tether Win7
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Make droidx bluetooth discoverable.
2. Open bluetooth devices in windows -> Add a device.
3. click on the phone that pops up.
4. click ok that the PIN numbers match.
5. Give it a minute to install the drivers, Don't worry if there's still an exclamation point in a triangle. It will still work.
6. Right click on the phone in the windows BT devices panel.
7. Select Connect as -> Access Point.
8. You are now online.

My first post here. I have a T-Mobile Compact V and I want to network to my Thinkpad T61 via Bluetooth, using the phone's shared internet connection. I can do this via usb, but neither IBM Bluetooth nor MS Bluetooth allows me to do it. The MS Bluetooth does not even show any of the phone's services. I can pair laptop and phone - but that's all. Suggestions?
Hi Mike,
Just so I am clear, are you wanting to share the phone's Internet connection or use Activesync over Bluetooth?
I have a Thinkpad R61i and have both working now. Once paired you can see the PC or MDA BT services from the other. I'm able to use the other services too and now just realised I can play the podcasts on my MDA through the speakers on my PC.
I'm using Vista on the Thinkpad, I haven't tried it on XP or Win 7 yet.
Once paired you can go into 'Show Bluetooth Devices' from the BT icon. Then opening up the phone's properties shows the services you can use. (Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs).

PS found this after you mentioned it in a previous thread and had only just set it up last week.

Both, really - but mainly the internet connection.

I have a Thinkpad T61. I can pair, but not see the services. I have tried with MS Bluetooth and IBM Bluetooth. The latter seems to show services, but I cannot access them.

I use XP and I avoid Vista. A friend had a little more success with Windows 7 (full version), but it still didn't function properly.

Yes, that's how it should work - and it worked with my Fujitsu Loox N560 running WM5 and my old Nokia 6500. Not this device, though.
I think there are some problems in the Bluetooth on the phone. In my car, I use a Parrot hands-free. My phone can show up as one of two names, as if there is some identity conflict there. Also, on Windows 7, it shows up with a phone icon - not a computer icon. My friend has an iMate that correctly shows up as a computer.
I am quite familiar with sucking eggs, but now I am sitting in confusion sucking my thumb!
Success!!
After failing to do this with my original HTC Touch and struggling for several hours over the last two days I have finally cracked this.
I'm slightly ashamed to say that trying to do it intuitivly didn't work and nor did trial and error. Following the instructions in the Windows Help help section to the letter did and now it works perfectly.
1. Clear any previous attempts to pair your D2 and your lappy from the Advanced Bluetooth menu of the D2 and from the Devices tab of the Bluetooth Devices dialogue box on your lappy.
2. Clear any previous COM ports that you have created in the COM ports tab of the Bluetooth Devices dialogue box on your lappy.
3. Clear any mobile modems that have been created for your D2 in the Modems tab of the Phone and Modems dialogue box in the Control Panel.
4. Open up ActiveSync on your Lappy and open up the Help section. Go to 'Connecting a mobile device to a PC \ Connect to ActiveSync using Bluetooth. Follow the 3 steps exactly. The trick is to initiate the COM Ports before you try to establish a pairing. It also makes it easier if you have already set up your D2 in ActiveSync with the USB cable. I have pasted the help section below:
To set up a Bluetooth connection, do the following:
Open the Bluetooth Devices Control Panel.
On the Options tab, select Turn discovery on and Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer.
On the COM Ports tab, click Add.
Select Incoming (device initiates the connection) and click OK.
Note the number of the COM port that was added. The COM port number must be no higher than 20.
Click OK to close the Bluetooth Devices Control Panel.
In ActiveSync on the PC, on the File menu, click Connection Settings.
Select Allow connections to one of the following.
Choose the COM Port with the number you noted in Step 1 Set up a Bluetooth COM port.
Click OK.
In ActiveSync on the device, tap Menu, then tap Connect via Bluetooth.
ActiveSync on your D2 will then say that you do not have a connection with a PC that supports ActiveSync and asks whether you would like to creat one now. Tap yes and complete the pairing between D2 and Lappy using the Devices tab of the Advanced section of the Bluetooth settings on your D2.
Once completed your D should begin to Sync.
Hope that works for you.

Yes, thanks. That has sorted out BT ActiveSync. I am still having problems with the BT networking, which is my main usage. I had always suspected that there were problems with COM port numbers always increasing. I have been searching for solutions but have resorted to hacking the laptop's registry.

Did you also get BT networking to function?
Tethering is the thing I miss most - and the reason I still carry my g1 with my laptop.
I have heard that htc sync offers connection shareing - but I use linux.
What does everyone else use? Hopefully there is one of you out there with a good linux solution

I was using Proxoid with my BH2 with Ubuntu. It wasn't fun to set up, but it worked well.
On this note, anyone get Bluetooth DUN working on win7 via PDAnet?

I don't know if there's a solution for linux, but I had been using PdaNet with my G1 before I got the slide. I assume that it would still work. You should check it out in the market.

same question here. i'm probably just confused with the setup tho =[
does the help
Straight from junefabrics the ppl that made pdanet
Bluetooth DUN does not require installing anything on the computer end. So it supports all operating systems. You can install the phone piece directly from Android market.
After enabling Bluetooth DUN in PdaNet, you need to pair your computer with the phone. Use the Bluetooth configuration software on the computer end to look for the Android pone and pair with its "Dial-up networking" service. After that your bluetooth software should create a new dialup network connection over the Bluetooth modem. Use "123" as the phone number and blank username/password.
Again make sure you connect using the Bluetooth software that comes with your computer. Do not use the PdaNet Desktop client which is only for USB connection.
Since different systems come with different Bluetooth configuration software, you can simply Google "Bluetooth Dun setup instructions on YOUR_COMPUTER_OS_NAME" if you need more help.
also it says on there that only dun works on linux but u will have to to website for that
easy tether??
Has anyone tried to use easy tether? it automatically sets up tether through usb not sure if it works haven't tested it.

Saw this, but didn't work. Plus i think 123 is for Sprint, TMO is *99#, I think.
I have used both easytether and PDANet free version. They both work about the same. you install one app on the phone and hook up via usb to the computer and the computer downloads the drivers needed. very fast and easy setup and besides installing an app and plugging in usb cable you don't have to do anything. It worked great for me but it does require you connect via usb so would not be wireless by any means. I was connecting to a windows 7 computer.
figured out the bluetooth dun w/ pdanet.
if you've already tethered via usb, you should have 'PdaNet Modem' in your network connections.
right-click into its properties.
under the General tab & Connect using: , you should see the option 'Standard Modem over Bluetooth link #_'. make sure it is checked.
and the phone number is 123. username/password left blank.
apply all changes.
open pdanet on phone.
enable bluetooth dun.
it should pair the two.
connect to PdaNet Modem on computer
root has been achieved, may as well just root now

See my next thread =)
Does anyone know if the issue with using a bluetooth mouse is a Honeycomb thing? Aside from the standard 'I can pair but not connect' issue I have dropped in some hci tools that allow me to use terminal to detect and then connect the BT mouse via the mac address. I know that it's getting connected but the tab doesn't display the cross hairs.
Do we know if this is a driver issue with 3.0?
Sorry to technical for me but I'd like to ask you something. I can pair my Droid with my tab but it doesn't connect what's the difference between connected and not connected. I was able to transfer a photo off my phone to the tab.

I've never tried to transfer files across BT, I just always email them or use dropbox. sorry I cant help with that one.
@it2steve,
can you give a quick how-to to get the BT mouse connected? I've been trying, but it only says "Paired but not connected". I have the MouseHack.apk (from another thread) installed, but it's not seeing the device.
I can't seem to connect to my stock my PC (via PDANet using bluetooth DUN) or my Lenovo K1 tablet (when I click on the wrench there are no profiles) to my stock Fascinate. Does the phone lack the right profile to allow tethering via bluetooth?
USB tethering seems to work well using a modified version of Azilink, which is what I've been using to tether my PC, but I'd like to find a way to tether from my tablet...
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi... I manage to connect my K1 to my Nokia C2-01 bluetooth and using its 3G network for internet access...
but you will have to root your android...
1. root your android from here: rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-romhc321-ideapad-k1-rooted-cwm-14-14-120109-us-build
2. go to market and install nc color bluetooth tether here: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=earlmagnus.nctether&hl=en
3. pair your phone to your tablet...it will show in setting pair but not connected, ignore it.
reboot your tablet and click on the nc color widget, it will request for superuser access, grant it and you are good to go, if still cannot, reboot your tablet again.
it works on my configuration, I hope it works on yours... try it.
I've been trying to transfer files between my nexus 10 and my galaxy nexus, but with no luck. This is what did:
(1) turn on bluetooth on both devices, and pair
(2) go to ES file browser, long press the (plan text) file to bring up menu, then select share -> bluetooth --> ok
(3) Got a message on the notification bar saying that the bluetooth was not successful.
I am able to use my bluetooth keyboard with both devices so at least that part works. I searched this forum but I was not able find any posting on this topic; any advice on how to do bluetooth file transfer is most appreciative.

I think its a hit or miss with Bluetooth transfer. First I had the same issue as you, but when I tried later it worked without problem. I know the Bluetooth on the nexus isn't 100%, so might he a problem on that end (haven't tested the n10 Bluetooth extensively).

Thanks. Could you describe exactly what you did to successfully perform a bluetooth file transfer?
(also, an off-topic question: How is CM10.1 working out for your gnex?)
Depends on what u are trying to transfer, tried transferring an apk from my laptop to my N10 but I couldn't, transferring an apk from n10 to s2 worked tho
