I've looked all over for info regarding this, but can't find anything so far.
I saw in the Samsung Captivate forum that there are devs working on a screen LED since the captivate has no LED. Does that mean that all of the samsung galaxy phones have no notification lights?
The main thing ima miss about my Nexus One is the colored trackball. I assumed there would be at least a upper notification led like tha majority of phones out today.
The Epic does have a notification light. First 2 pictures: Top right of phone, in between the Sprint logo and the front-facing camera.

Oh wow! I hadn't seen those pictures. Indeed there is a notification light!
I'm wondering why the Captivate or Vibrant don't have the notification light? It seems like they really did make the Epic better than the other 3 galaxy phones!
well it is a Galaxy S Pro
These two videos further confirm there's at least two colors (blue and pink):

I've seen both of those videos but never paid attention to if there was a notification light or not!
We need more video of this amazing phone!
Fantastic, this allays one of my biggest concerns. Now if they release a car dock that works with Car Home, I'd have positively no hesitation in buying this phone.
Make your own car dock... for much cheaper. It won't auto launch the car home dock, but I made one for my Hero following a forum member's guide and it came out perfect. Cost ~$10... just use a different person for the garmin dock, i waited 2 months without receiving anything from ebay seller he recommended.
I have a car dock for my G1, but launching Car Home, automatically turning on bluetooth, etc. is sort of the point
Anyone have any ideas as to how configurable the notification lights/colors are? It'd be cool if I could have blue for work email, pink for texts, and maybe flashing blue for personal email. (or something like that)

No one has reported on it yet and the phone isn't out yet. Right now we have seen Pink/Red and Blue I believe in videos and White as well. It is purely speculation, but the phone probably has RGB LED's in there so in theory can display any color of the rainbow. The same way the Nexus and G1 display different colors for different notifications I imagine this phone will as well. Once again purely speculation.
What I'd like to know is can we control notification light colors and customize them so much that even who you get a txt from gets its own color. Now that'd be cool.

That's sort of what I'm thinking, except if not many colors, many options for blinking (incl. blink rate) or alternating colors. I sure hope the settings for these lights are powerful out of the box.
We need a proper geek to get his/her hands on this thing!
the nexus one has one (along with the trackball), but i havent seen anything about one for the nexus s. anyone know if there is one. i assume if there was one we would know by now

does this forum have a mod?
Here:

From all the reviews and responses I've read, I was really surprised that people don't seem to care about notification LED. Coming from N1, I really can't live without notification LED (no, I don't wanna use mod to burn the OLED)
C'mon Google, almost every android phone has notification LED except for the 'S' series!! N1 even has two, and they are RGB LEDs!!!

go read what noLED does, it won't burn in because it constantly moves around. Not to mention it takes a long ass time to burn in a screen so unless you plan on leaving a notification there for a week, you'll be fine.

I like how people say "C'mon Google" like Google made the phone. Samsung made it!
I really like the LED trackball, it is useful. One big point to me.

Damn people, enough of these trackball LED threads. If you REALLY want something, search the Galaxy S forums for BLN (Backlight Notifications) which uses the capacitive buttons LEDs as notification lights... it's not the same, but at least it's SOMETHING. I'm sure the Nexus S will be modded to have it in short order.

This is what I came here to say. I am willing to bet there will be a BLN kernel for Nexus S in less than a week.
It doesn't work. No matter what app I try it just doesn't go off. There is also no display option to turn the led on or off.
Anyone familiar with this?
Using stock 4.3? Download lightflow from play store and it'll work.

I'm still on 4.2.2 after a big scare using various Nexus 4 tool sets, ill be waiting for OTA update.
Lightflow does make it light up though! But its faint as f... notification led seems pretty useless to be honest.

Then why are you asking if you have a broken LED? It wouldn't make a difference if it lights up or not if you thought the feature was useless. I personally like it. Comes in handy when I'm not in my room and leave my phone there and then come back to see the LED blinking.

Im having this issue, but mine hasn't worked since cyanogenmod a couple months back, on carbon or PA it didn't work. Now on 4.3 and doesn't work. Though on Carbon the charging notification still worked when plugged in but lightflow or other apps didn't.

The feature is really useful if you put in a bright led, one that a normal human can see when there is even the slightest hint of light. Not one that only works in total darkness.

You are saying that it is faint..You should check out the led of Htc phones :silly:
Notification Led of N4 is okay here..Not at all faint
I've been looking for an answer to this but I haven't found any good one with a clear "NO" or "Yes".
Is it RGB, multicolor or some technology with more colors? Has someone tested it with light flow to see if you can control it or it is actually a RGB led but the software just let you use 2 of them for some reason?
I'd like to have at least 5 colors... It is weird to me to see that it only has green and red. To be an RGB it only lacks the blue one, which is really werid to me. I'm planning to buy the phone and since I had this LED on my Galaxy S3 back in the day I can't be without it.
Doesn't seem RGB to me, so far I have seen green and red from the notification LED.
Couldn't get another color to display with Light Flow app (I'm noob with it tho, I just installed to reply to you)
Ya, I can't get light Flow to work either....all I have seen is Red and Green. Someone said orange but I have yet to see it.
Red and green...that is all I get also. But it does work! Some do say yellow also but I am not sure when yellow shows up. I have not seen yellow yet.

If it's got red and green, you can get orange. It's just probably not used in the ZTE software anywhere.
And RGB notification light isn't a fancy LED light any phone I know if, it's discrete R, G, and B diodes. Which is why you can really only get Red, Green, Blue, White, Yellow, Orange, and Purple on any phone.
Thank you for the information guys. I'll keep that in mind.

I think they actually have the blue diode, but they don't use it. I wonder if someone can get it to work along the other 2.

all three colors are showing up under /sys/class/leds, so it must be there. I'm not sure why it's not able to be turned on. I was able to get red, green, and orange to show up.

So it is definetly there right? Or maybe it is just a generic class for leds and they only use the ones they need (red and green). Would be nice to check if they can be activated via software in some way.

They shouldn't show up there if they aren't actual hardware, as those are created at runtime, I believe. I tried writing a value to the brightness, but it wouldn't let me (terminal user isn't part of the "system" group).
The LED testing app I was playing with couldn't activate it. So, no idea why it's not working.

Does it require the blink file to actually turn on though? I thought you just turn it to "on" with the brightness file? It still seems odd to only partially create the class (just like it seems odd to only have a RG LED if that's what they truly did).

Wow.. Disappointing..
how can you fit a flagship device with top notch display, cpu and chipset with a crappy RG led for notifications?
i honestly can't belive it and i hope it's just a poor software use of the existing hardware...

Well, it is a small annoyance, but this phone was half the price of my other choice (Note 7). Also, it hasn't exploded, so that's a plus. It has better screen and audio than OP3, which was my third choice. So, I'd enjoy more notification light colors, but of things that were cut to save me $400, I'd vote for simpler LED light while keeping gorgeous screen and great sound any day.

Blimey - that's quite extreme! I personally only care if there is an led (one colour is fine for me) as I'm only interested to see if there's a notification - after that I pick up the phone to see what it is!
I'm considering a V20. One question I have: does it have an LED, and support multiple colors?
I use Lightflow for my notifications. Different color and/or flash rate for notifications.
I'm aware of but not familiar with the second screen. I've read something about the notifications having a lifetime, ie will go away possibly before read. AS well, I think it would be easier to see notification lights and not have to even be necessarily close to the screen to read anything.
At any rate...does the V20 have the LED? Anyone using Lightflow?

Thanks for the feedback guys.
It's a bit of a change going from a device with LED's to one without, but I ended up installing LED Blinker Pro and am using the on-screen notifications option (for devices lacking the LED light) and it works pretty good. Definitely worth the couple of bucks for the pro version.

Uh, that's not an LED
