As titled, I installed the leaked OTA tonight for the 720p recorder, boot animation, etc. It did reboot 3 times initially right after the update but I was expecting that.
I waited about 30 minutes for good measure and then restored all of my apps and data with Titanium. Ever since then my phone has been rebooting itself for no reason. I have noticed that it does it more when I am launching certain programs. For a while it was just rebooting one right after the other and the home screen never came available, it just had a Loading... notification. Once it finally did load the home screen it looked like the Weatherbug was struggling to load and as soon as I click on it, the phone shuts off.
I uninstalled the app and it hasn't been rebooting as much but for a phone that has never ever had one problem I'm kind of inconvenienced by this.
Has anyone else out there experienced anything like this where the phone just keeps rebooting? It's like every minute I was hearing "Drooooid."
Any intuition on the subject would be appreciated tremendously.
Worse case scenario I have to do a Nand restore I guess...

Why update to something that hasn't been officially released?
Also GPS enabled makes it reboot. Guess there is no salvaging this one. I'll be waiting for Froyo to come OTA. Screw all this nonsense

Why flash a rom? Why root?
The reboots are caused by seomthing you restored in Titanium, not the OTA.
I figured as much, but at this point its going to be easier to just wait for the official update. I got my taste of it for now. I do like the news widget though on the update. Good stuff

I posted a nandroid backup of stock post ota, its way down this thread by now. Try downloading and restoring it to see if that can fix ur problems, just be careful what u restore with titanium.

yeah. just do a fresh wipe and use the phone for a while to see if you get reboots. it is most likely an app causing the issue.
Waiting
I apparently rooted my phone without knowing about it because unrevoked.com makes it waaaay too easy.
After installing the leaked OTA, my wifi, gps, bt, and camera stopped working. Thank the lord almighty I created a nandroid backup.
Based on the rumor from droidedup this morning that they are halting these OTA updates for a couple of weeks and releasing Froyo, I suggest you unroot, go back to your previous version and wait for Froyo.
I did do a nand backup before I pushed the OTA so I had something to revert to and now my phone is back to full functionality.
Yes, undoubtedly we have all heard about Froyo 'coming soon,' but again I will believe it when I see it and there's no chance of me unrooting before the update is officially out.
And I know a lot of people are claiming that they're going to wait until unrevoked can "fix" it (froyo) for those root users, but not me. I'd rather have Froyo and no root than the opposite. It's like waiting for Christmas morning and then when everyone else is opening up their goodies, you unwrap an IOU that says "we're still working on yours."
Not me.
Sorry, Charlie.
Lol, I'm sure they will figure out how to root again, if its any different of a process at all. Hopefully HTC realizes that a lot of people are chosing their handsets over Motorola simply because their phones can be rooted. Why mess with a good thing?

Anyone having issues after installing the leaked OTA update? I've noticed my alarms are no where near reliable anymore. I thought maybe the issue was the stock clock app, but I'm seeing the same thing with "Alarmed Lite". While this isn't a huge problem, I'm interested in seeing if anyone else has noticed anything similar. Right now at a cross roads. I love the updated camera, but I do rely on my phone for alarms.
My only other issue right now is my Karnivor (MQ2'ed, midblocked, Yakuza'ed) is extremely inefficient, and the Yak doesn't seem to recognize a normal trigger pull. Guess that's a topic for another forum though....

stop using a task killer if you are, or check to see if you are killing anything that could be affecting your alarm. I used to use taskiller until I did some reading and I must say the system runs with less quirks now that I don't use one...
If you do not use a task killer, it may just be an issue with the ota, can't say for sure... as per the post above mine, I did read that the ota may not have been released because it may be incorporated into a following ota (possibly froyo) not because of "countless" issues...

I see no threads like that. I do, however, see some threads about getting it to work 100%. I also know from personal experience that any issues are user error, as I had/have the ota installed and have no issues with it whatsoever.
I use my alarm for morning wake ups everyday and it has been flawless. The update gave me no issues that I can see and I've been running it at least a week.

I haven't had a single problem with my OTA update either. But the hit or miss must be why they haulted the release. Can't wait for Froyo as is the same with everyone though.
If what's been going around the internet about 2.2 being released around the end of the month, that could also be why they pulled it. Changed their minds about the update and decided to just go full froyo. Or it could be a test ota meant only for devs to test out the new radio and drivers. At this point it's all speculation...but anyway this is getting offtopic.
To the OP, it almost sounds like you have some kind of auto task killer installed or something...

I actually don't run a task killer, and when I did (pre ota update) I excluded the clock. I use SystemPanel now. Wonder if it's worth it to roll back and try again. Anyone know if it's safe to go back to the previous hboot and then reapply the patch?
My alarms work just fine, have had absolutely no issues with ota update.
Anyone else have problem with FM radio after OTA?
I've rooted 4 incredibles with this ota and only one had a problem of not being able to hear when on a phone call but if you turn speaker on it would work and you could hear it was pretty weird
I had constant reboots with the leaked OTA so I went back to stock. I'll wait for the 2.2 OTA to come out and for Unrevoked to hack it up.
I've been waiting patiently for my 2.2 OTA upgrade ... now my patience is running thin as hell with Samsung as well as t-mobile for not stepping in to remedy the problem. The worst part is that I just heard that Samsung pulled the 2.2 update from kies. So this is probably a bad sign for any one who is afraid to root or scared the void any warranty.
Im unfortunately one of the ones that hasent wanted to root cause im still paying off my phone. I know its easy, I just want the option to claim warrenty.
Im giving them until the new year to release an OTA for 2.2 or 2.3 if not that a date and then first deadline they miss in rooting.
Sent from my futuristic phone
I say go ahead and root. Then read a lot. Read some more. And then flash. Don't worry about the warranty. You can always flash back to stock and unroot. They'll never know or care.
Honestly, you're probably not going to get 2.2 by years end. Gingerbread is out and we're still running software that was released over a year ago. At this rate, we'll get Gingerbread (if we ever) couple months after Honeycomb is released..
edit: I also applaud your patience thus far. I couldn't even stand waiting more than a week for JI6 update (after it was reported it was being released OTA), which prompted me to root + flash.

I would just go with the One click lag fix for rooting. I think the .apk that allowed you to root got pulled from the market. But if you search around here... you can still find it. Very simple, just install the app, click root, boom, start flashing away. Just search for One Click Lag Fix, gotta get one of the older versions though.
Root, read, learn, then install the Stock JL4 Froyo Rom some of us are running. It's pretty slick and practically perfect.
Go ahead and use ODIN and update to 2.2 FL4. You wont be disapointed, unless you talk about battery life. I lost an hour at least going to 2.2. However, the features/speed improvement is well worth it.
I will NEVER EVER EVER buy a phone again that has less than a 12h active battery life again. This looking for a place to charge like a crackwh** is getting old fast.

I am in the same boat - except that I have rooted. I didn't flash a custom ROM since it's so much more difficult than on the G1 which had the excellent Amon Ra recovery to do BART backups in case something went wrong and a flash from a zip file side loaded on the phone.
Flashing ROMs on this is so much more convoluted with ODIN, kernels etc. Plus 2.1 was decent enough on the phone and I kept expecting Samsung to release 2.2. But this is now getting ridiculous and I'm getting pissed of as well. This is definitely the last Samsung phone I'm buying. My next phone is definitely going to be an HTC. HTC modding is stabler and more advanced for obvious reasons, not least of which is that HTC seems relatively okay with it.
What is 2.2 FL4?
FL4 is the latest "leak" of the 2.2 "final" rom for the Vibrant.
Dont listen to others that are saying to factory restore, after you are done with the flash, boot it into recovery (the volume button turn on) and just clear the cache, then reboot. You wont lose any data. (If you rooted 2.1 you will may have to factory restore, but it doesnt hurt to try the cache trick first. The method I'm referring to seems to work best if your a non-root user like me).

Can someone post a link to a good thread so I can research what I need to do or atleast provide me with the right word or phrases to search.
My first concerns are what everything is, like ODIN and OCLF (I finally figured out the OCLF thanks to this thread means one click lag fix ... I never put 1&1 together) Also they put the OCLF back in the market with all the tools just minus the ROOT option. Reading through the help file provided with the OCLF app he tells you what you can do to obtain root.

I finally gave up on samsung and installed stock jl4 yesterday and couldn't be happier.
Haven't really seen any bugs at all yet. It's running great.
I've been looking through a few rooting threads to gather information. I see people saying that there making backups and installing busybox or superuser. If acquiring root is as simple as a button press and a restart why make a backup. I understand that It's always good to make a backup when delving into the inner OS.
Also the OCLF, Super Oneclick, and Z4root, methods I've researched are a little less explanitory then i thought. They just say something like "INSTALL AND CLICK ROOT" nothing step by step or anything talking about safty precautions.

It will get 2.2 eventually, but only time will tell how long. If we can get kernel source for the I500 phones, we should be able to get you a working kernel, and you may be able to use one of the Fascinate Froyo ROMs then. The biggest problem you'll have is getting the kernel until Samsung releases the OTA or source because of the different video driver used for the screen/ticker/soft keys.

If that's true, that really stinks.
Sure wish I new someone who knows the answer to this question.
Heck, I might even pay for it, if the cost (ROI) was worth it. Sure would like to see flash on my phone. Besides froyo has 57% of the market vs. eclair at 31%.
That's crazy considering the Continuum came out in November.
On another note:
I haven't rooted my phone and I noticed your signature as Rooted.
Question? Is it worth rooting? I've read Pros on it but haven't seen any Cons. What's the drawback on it? Updates? Can you revert back to stock if I choose too.

samsung submitted ec17 for the fascinate to verizon...and apparently that is still in testing...im just gonna assume it ll fail testing like most of their updates and never come out
the fascinate root crowd no longer really cares though as the mesmerize 2.2 officially came out w/ source....
but it seems like continuum updates follow quickly behind fascinate updates...so if hypothetically a fascinate ota occured like this week then it would probably be soon after for the i400
Ok, I was just fine tweaking 2.1 for now until something happened and we finaly got 2.2+, since Eclair isn't really that bad. Now I am starting to see 2.2+ only apps (ones that I want to try mostly) and it's starting to make me less patient. It saddens me since this phone had so much potential with the decent hardware and interesting ticker feature, but it is quickly being left in the dust as the little android that couldn't... /sadpanda

Although I'm rooted I have everything else factory, no missing apps. I wonder what prevents the OTA from happening. Maybe it still will...?
I checked "update android" about 3 am in indiana and started downloading the update. i checked my phone about 8 am and it asked if i wanted to update first thing.
the update when fine, but things run slow. looks like all of my data is there but the rotation lags sometimes and some of my ringtones, notification sounds have changed. thats not a big deal though. the screen rotation lag was about 3 to 4 seconds at one point.
i have yet to restart my phone, maybe i'll give that a try. also my battery is dying fast. it usually lasts about 12 hours, today its going about 8 or 9.
i updated from never rooted, stock di18 over the air to ec05.
I haven't got the OTA (on a custom rom anyway) but would never install anything OTA. Samsung has enough problems with buggy releases to go flashing something like this right over top of what I already have, IMO you're inviting issues if you update like this.
With that said, I just flashed the EC05 modem over my ACS 1.0.2 install and it went flawless. GPS lock is better and 3G seems to be doing better and I didn't have to deal with any of the Sprint ID crap.
Hey everybody I jus got my froyo update today and I dont know what to make of it yet...it looks abit cooler...came wit sprint id crap, I dont see the point in even having that...also I there has been this weird fantasy sounding bg music on my epic and I cannot for the life of me find out where its coming from, uh so if anyone know how get that off I will be greatful...but all in all im diggin this update jus cus my xscope browser now had flash! YaY Me!
Got my update yesterday while at work. Feels a little sluggish versus eclair. The best thing about the update is that it messed with my default ringtone and notification settings. While sitting in my department's staff meeting, I received a call from my wife. No big deal except the ringtone sounds a little bit like a dying barking sea lion. That was pretty fun.
Other than that, so far, so good. Really like apps2sd! I just need to figure out how to delete a SprintID after I download it if I don't like it. (I am sure it I easy, but I haven't bothered trying yet.)

I thought I might amuse someone by reporting that I, DroidApprentice, may be the very last person to get the OTA update today after believing through most of last week that something I did to my phone made it not downloadable.
The irony is that I think tonight was to finally be the night where I tried using update.zip manually anyhow. Well, it was cool to see happen I guess. LOL. Now it keeps bugging me. Oh well, it's fated maybe to frustrate me until I manage to get it done and then hopefully it'll be an actual improvement.
So i recieved a notifaction today that my samsung epic was eligable for the gingerbread 2.3 update. Knowing not to get my hopes up, I followed the instructions to update, but my phone kept telling me my current andriod version was up to date.
I called sprint technical support which was the biggest waste of two hours of my life. They ended up screwing up my phone, which I had to manually get working again.
I finally called my local sprint store to see what was going on, and he told me that spring PULLED the samsung epic 2.3 update because many clients were reporting problems with their phones. He told me it would become available again in the next 3-4 weeks. I have no idea how he would know this information, but im leaning towards speculation. 3-4 weeks is 6-8 months in sprint langunage. He said his is working completely fine, and he would be fine with me to come down and he will manually put it on my phone for me, but warned if my phone bricked, it would be stuck that way (aka i would have to use odin to send it back to stock).
I manually put the E122 version on my phone and so far have ZERO problems. Is anyone else aware of sprint jumping the gun on this one and pulling this update?
I've had the Epic since day 1.
They have pulled EVERY-SINGLE-UPDATE in the history of Epic updates.
It's almost laughable. I can't wait to get a sprint phone that sprint and samsung dont mess with (nexus prime, etc)
I have the correct version right? EI22 is the latest and greatest?
What happens if sprint releases a newer update, will I have to manually remove this one and go back to froyo eco5, or will my phone update ok?
can you point me in the direction of the way you updated this with zero problems? thanks

Im not sure if your being sarcastic, but I will point you anyways.
Before anything, make sure you have FROYO ECO5 Installed, and nothing else.
1.)go to ww.gottabemobile.com/2011/11/09/samsung-epic-4g-gingerbread-update-rolling-out-can-be-manually-installed
2.)rename the zip file they have for you download to update (NOT UPDATE.ZIP, just UPDATE)
3.)put the file on your SD card
4.)start phone in boot mode
5.)update.zip will appear on the boot screen, select it.
your phone will update automatically.
Since it was an official release, EI22 should upgrade to the "GB fixed" version for the Epic, even if OTA is stopped. A quick google search doesn't confirm that the update was stopped. Not saying you're wrong, but could be misinformed.

I agree. I mean it made sense and all, considering i was unable to update via OTA and my phone said my andriod version was currently up to date.
I guess only a certain percentage of users are getting it at the moment? I dont know, I have it now and thats all that matters.
Only complaint I have is their new system they use to kill aps. I loved the fact I didnt need advanced APP killer with my epic, but this new interface is really confusing me.

OTA is being pushed to 100% of Epic users in 10 days instead of 3 like the Froyo updates.

The store told you this to get you off of their backs.
Were you rooted?
It will come, patience is a virtue.
No, im not rooted. I have the update now anyways, I downloaded directly from google and put it on my epic manually, so far so good.

My wife's stock epic had the same update notification and the same everything is up to date. So I talked to a friend who works at a sprint store and he explained the whole market queue thing for the update (unnecessarily I might add).
He then called support and talked to one of his buddies there who told him that they are getting slammed with calls about this and that they can't do a thing about it if the person isn't up in the queue.
Hell of a way to push an update.
go figure sprints always tryin to screw everyone they can. good thing we have devs and root to make them acutally work faster and better!
+1 to everyone who knows anything bout andriod
Sprint stated it would be completed over 8 days to ensure it goes smoothly. which means the 17th is the last day. Also it is not listed as suspended on their site. EB13 was immediately listed as suspended when they pulled it.
Sprint zone just sent me an update stating that gingerbread was available. I don't think they've pulled it. But hey its sprint so who the he'll knows! They'll probably wait until they push it to everyone and then pull it ;-)

EI22 killed my GPS
I dloaeded the stock EI22 and did the update and my GPS went totally dead. Even used Status/setup to try and get it going again to no avail. Went back to stock EC05 and it works like a charm....go figure. I'll just wait for the OTA and see if it works any different....

You just need the GPS fix. That's the only problem I see with stock ei22 and the fix makes it work fantastic. Even better than ec05 in my opinion.

Ota not canceled. My girlfriend and I both have epics. When sprint put update on their website I odin'd her phone back to stock ec05. Last night she got the sprint notification to update.

Yeah, that "your update is ready" message from Sprint is automated and isn't related to your spot in the queue. The same thing happend to me (I got the message days before the OTA was pushed to me) when Froyo got released. I can't tell you how many days before, I waited a day and a half and just did it manually.
yeah, that notification has no bearing on when you get the update. i got notified on my phone about the update hours after i already did the manual upgrade.
