There's mixed info on whether the 2nd OTA actually exists or if it's just a late announcement of the one everyone knows about.
Has anyone here actually received a 2nd OTA update?
NO 2nd UPDATE. David at TmoNews wasn't clear in his post the other day entitled "Updates galore". He meant to highlight the updates for other phones, and mentioned the mt4g as having an update too. His intention was the one OTA so far, not an additional one.
Where is this chatter for a 2nd OTA that you speak of?
Actually the TMONews post is where I heard about it in the first place - although I can't find the post, I'd swear I saw someone here mention that they had received it and it was an update to QIK (not a Market update - but rather in normal ROM OTA fashion).
Hey all. I am curious, are you guys all getting Froyo by doing a manual update??? I am trying the UPDATE FIRMWARE option (currently on DI18) and getting a message that I am on the latest version.
If you search the forums a bit you will find your answer.

Milkman, I'm in the same boat - been searching forums, seems like folks who want OTA will have to wait.

dude above is hinting for the manual update of the OTA released update. I am on 18 also waiting for OTA. If I didn't have hw id go for it. I just dont have time if i brick my phone in the process.
Thanks Big. I wish the other reply was more helpful, like maybe a link or something. I love how people tell you to search when you already did...
I may just do the update using clockwork, but was hoping to do OTA.
I will holdout a little longer to see if it magically appears on OTA.
The comment was referring to the fact that this has been extensively covered already in the forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861213 has the instructions on how to apply the OTA update to a stock Epic.
The official OTA hasn't been released by Sprint/Samsung yet, DK28 is just the most likely final release.
The instructions above will show you how to update, I updated my wife's stock Epic last night with no issues.
thank you elite, as a new android user this isn't really apparent, even from the bulk of that thread - that this isn't an official OTA sprint release.
There are folks that are reporting they got froyo from an OTA update, which counters your information. I wonder how true or untrue that is.
If sprint hasnt released the official froyo then why are users getting it OTA. I call bs on your statement.
yep, I second that call mbkowns.
The OTA was being pushed to specific test phones, with the Hardware version D700.0.4
No one has determined how those got in the wild, almost everyone has version .5
The update was only pushed to the .4 phones, again this is all in the dev section.
if that is the case, then how do folks know that its the 'official' froyo release? I can see that the dl link is from an authoritative source, but its not telling.
i.e. if its not available to all subscribers then its not a release, right?
It is not the official release, just a possible release candidate that was sent to the .4 phones only.
Basically, a guy last night noticed that Di18 updated to DK28 and posted it here. after several hundred posts, we all realized that it was only for .4 phones. Those are supposedly developmental phones that got released with the mainstream .5 phones. How? We do not know.
But since it was an OTA for those phones, a ton of folks have assumed that it was the final official release.
Either way, I ODINed my old DG27, got gps fix in Maps, then ODINed the latest. It's not a bad process, just touchy, and since then I've enjoyed the best Froyo ROM yet.
I hope this helps.

It is not the official release from sprint to the general public, it is a release candidate that they will let devs test for a few days. If devs report no issues they will start the official OTA release.
Sent from my Epic using XDA App.
thats great info, I fear however that due to the reportings of xda and engadget, etc.. that most folks will or have interpreted this event as an official sprint release of froyo. I am in no particular hurry for froyo on my epic but as this news has panned out it has caught my and others attention in an apparent dubious way - surely due the reportings and not in any way of the xda members.
if this is true, this is an important point that folks should be aware of *before* doing their own joyous upgrade - meaning that if sprint didn't bless this code they shouldn't expect it to be the final real thing.
As of today/yesterday there has been some sort of maintenance being done to both the community and support sections of the Sprint site.
This was something similar to what Verizon was doing for their incremental update to the Fascinate (which offered many welcomed updates to the phone except for the FroYo update). The down time could mean that Sprint is updating possible drivers to it's current line up and given that the Epic is supposed to be a flagship device (or it should be) some update may be found there or perhaps we are seeing some sort of movement towards the official FroYo build.
It is all speculation though, I just took what I noted from what Verizon was doing with it's site and put two and two together when Sprint is doing the same thing. Take everything with a grain of salt.
Would love to believe it's sprint getting ready for the froyo release but am not getting my hopes up until i see an official word on the release here not to mention a rom of it.

Last I heard, we weren't getting froyo before february at the earliest. And it still might get pushed back farther than that.

Sorry, Didnt see it in the other forum:

Motorola Atrix Gingerbread Android 2.3.3
Motorola launched the Atrix 4G back in February on the 22nd with Android 2.2 Froyo on-board. Since then, the Atrix has seen two over-the-air updates bringing much needed features like increased battery life and HSUPA capabilities. One update per two months seems to be the pace for Moto and AT&T on this device. Seems like Atrix users should be due for another update pretty soon, don’t it? We’ve got you covered.
AT&T and Motorola plan to launch Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Motorola Atrix 4G within the months of June or July. The initial build will likely be Android 2.3.3 with an update to Android 2.3.4 following soon after. The Atrix 4G launched with software version 1.2.6, moved to 1.5.7, and landed on 1.8.3. But, this next update will bring most likely bring users to build number 4.5.XX.
Of course, Motorola’s packed some major features into this update including, but not limited to: overscroll glow, an updated version of Blur, application grouping, re-built main applications, downloads management, an improved camera, better power management, a re-done keyboard, and some nifty animation work. The device’s new version of Blur looks a lot like the Droid X’s recently obtained update.
Due to AT&T’s new policy regarding application sideloading, the “Unknown Sources” checkbox is present and working on the latest Android 2.3.3 builds for the Atrix. That means you’ll be able to sideload without rooting your Atrix. Of course, there are still reasons to root the Atrix. Especially once the bootloader bypass method finally comes to fruition.
We’ve extensively and exhaustively reviewed the Atrix Gingerbread build below for your viewing pleasure. Make sure to check out the pictures as well as the video content after the break!

It's my birthday!
Didnt get from him, I got it from there site 2 Can't wait till it comes out! Hope the update gets leaked out! So we have the chance to play with it
Dont get your hopes up for a specific date or month. You will be sad panda if Att anounces (or waits) till Dec or something. June or July is a speculated date passed from ear to ear. You remember that game from grade school? Notice there is no source.

ahh yes the Android update ETA game. I remember when everyone was waiting for the HTC Hero to go from 1.6 to 2.1 for about 6 months or more after they announced that it would be getting an update.....
But at least this has been officially/unofficially announced which is good news period.
They should be coming out with it soon because most of the dual cores that are coming out and even single core ones have GB already. Like the HTC Sensation 4G that's coming out this month. Its not going to be good for them and HTC says there going to have there boot loader unlocked. If the don't come out with GB in that time frame I'm going to sell my phone and buy from some other company!
Yes ! Very more nice than old motoblur !
I don't know too much about Moto's speed of giving the releases, but I do know that Motorola liberated Android 2.1 way before $ony did the same to my X10
If you are currently rooted and have GingerBlur version 4 on the Atrix, how do you go on about installing/updating Atrix Gingerbread 2.3.3 when it comes out? Do we have to go back to the moto stock rom and then update?

Awesome. I have looked at the screenshots. They look great. I have also been playing with a Xoom running 3.1, and these remind me of it.

If you are on GBlur, you will have to sbf to do any update. Remember, there is a Moto check before the update will install. But right now we have no procedure for installing Gingerbread because the community doesnt have it. Only Moto does. And the dev they gave it to to try and root after removing the Gigerbreak exploit. Which makes total sense.
i told that about the gingerbread update release a month ago, kennethpenn is testing a beta, then after this, he confirmed, idk if you saw his post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104716 =)
Thx for the reply WiredPirate ..
I'm glad I went with the Atrix over Iphone 4...
I suspect that the release date isn't that far off. We knew roughly when 1.8.3 was going to be out. Though it also wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being pushed back till the beginning of August if they feel they need more time. I would expect things like webtop would be what slows it down.
I am actually optimistic that we will see it sooner rather than later, since other Motorola phones are already getting Gingerbeard updates.
First off let me say I Do Not intend for this to be another whine thread....
Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has had any signs of an update. I recall from one of the previous now closed threads started one user mentioned the 5th as being a possible date. Though seemingly arbitrary date the 5th is here.
People chime in if you get the notification!
Nothing for me yet.
It probably won't come out until the new Google phones do. I know it's difficult for flashaholics, but be patient.
Now I'm waiting for the September security update for Marshmallow, maybe it will be late too. They seem to be in a huge work.
This thread is the best sign.

That's what intended mine to be, but it went south so fast! Lol no sign for me yet, I'm hoping maybe by tonight. It's REALLY behind said release date. Staying optimistic!
This is the only sign from Google I have seen.
Absolutely notting here. Not even the sept security update.
There will be a September in 2017,too
If I'm remembering the same post, a user speculated that the update would be tied to the September monthly security update. That seemed like pure speculation. I hope the updates are posted soon but I don't think today will be the day, since it is already the afternoon and a business holiday. Hope I'm wrong!
Hope it's soon.

Maybe tomorrow then, I forgot it was a holiday. What gets me is how they got everyone all riled up that it was gonna be in August, and it's gonna be out at the same time haha
Yeah Im ready for the official build too, this NPD90G preview wants me to want more, or at least some minor fixes.
No updates.............there will be speculations.
No speculations.....probably updates.
From what I've heard Qualcomm needs to do some driver upgrades for full Android N Support. If that is the case, it would explain why Google hasn't released the update yet, they simply can't until Qualcomm delivers. I can imagine Qualcomm has their hands full at the moment with all the smartphone companies out their requesting driver updates to support Android N as well.
I don't have any references for this, as I read it in a post somewhere but don't remember where. Don't take my word for it. But of course it would be interesting if someone could confirm or deny this.
I don't expect the update any time soon, but at least the latest beta runs very smoothly on my device. Can't complain at the moment.
Thats what has confused me DP5 runs well so id have thought it was near release quality but I guess not with the update taking so long. As far as qualcomm surely google should be the highest priority for drivers/updates given that they build the entire base that all other android phones base off? So an N driver for a specific SoC should work for all devices using that SoC?
I'm pretty satisfied with the Uber N ROM as is.
What @onemandivision said is correct, driver updates are critical. It's not just the kernel and the android base.
I'm a little confused by the delay though since it is already clear that phones on chips older than snapdragon 800/801 won't get nougat (ie 65-70% of all android phones according to some surveys), so there should be very few drivers to update/fine tune? Am I wrong?
