Hi, I'm running Radio 2.06.51.27 with the stock WWE 1.66 ROM in the UK.
Would I be OK flashing a .50 radio, e.g. 2.07.50.27? If so, do you think I'd notice any benefit at all? Or is there some other radio that's better? (I live near London, and use an unbranded Vodafone HD2.)
Many thanks,
David
Hey
Yes you can flash a .50 radio, id recommend testing a few of the later radios 2.10, 2.11 & 2.12 (although 2.07 may work best for you), the most noticeable benefits are better battery life, faster gps lock & clearer call quality. the only thing is you will need to try for yourself as radio performance really does vary from person to person (depending on your location & rom).
i prev had the best performance with 2.12.50, however after switching roms i get the best from 2.11.50.26 so its a trail & error thing!
Thanks
Thanks for the advice. I've just flashed 2.07.50.27 and will test it out. If there's no improvement I'll try one of the radios you recommended.
Much appreciated,
David

Radio ROM
Living in Germany I use a non branded HD2 with custom ROM. Upgrading to a 2.12.50.XX radio resulted in battery drain issues every time I tried (tried 3times with different ROMS). Presently I`m using 2.10.50.28_2 which gives great data and call performance. Using 2.06 for a long time I always had issues with Radio dropping the data connection. Flashing the 2.10.50.28_2 ROM fixed the issue.
hi, i am also running Radio 2.06.51.27 with the stock WWE 1.66 ROM, just want to know whether flashing a radio is similar to rom flashing. will the radio flashing delete all the cabs installed on my phone? i have never done that nor rom flashing, kind of scared to brick my phone.
cheers

Do not fear
Nothing to fear. Just make sure HSPL 2 is installed on your storage card, then watch the following video. You won't lose your cabs, only the radio is updated, not the whole ROM. I just did it, and was anxious like you, but it updated fine. I'll wait to see the results.

Sorry I did use the search tool but couldn't find an answer... What are the differences between these as well as advantages/disadvantages of each? With so many ROMs available I'd like to have something more to help me choose.
Thanks
I'd like to know this as well. All these different versions and ROMS using different ones etc is confusing. Also, the HSPL versions.. all confusing!
Base 2.10 has an awful and distorted noise in phone calls and awful bluetooth management not to mention more power consuption, these are the main disatvantages from my point of view.

A chef or somebody knowledgeable in cooking could answer this. The only thing I know for sure is that if you have HSPL (for the 1.43 stock roms), you can flash all base 2.10 roms and you can enable the 576 mb ram if you use a 2.07.50 or 2.08.50 radio because this what I got on my device as my signature states. Actually, I also managed to flash 2 1.72 roms, but I found them not to my liking so I stick to the 2.10 ones and I'm happy with them. Just to name a few: Astriaios, Energy, RTT Shock Star RTM, Leo firestorm, LIA Glass series, Ahen L6 series from xda, and from VIETPPC: Hoang An Leo, from PDAVIET: All, because they use only the 2.10 base. Most of these roms exist in 6.5 and 6.5.x so you guys will have the choice.
I stick to HSPL(1) because I think there is more choice in the 2.10 roms than in the 1.66 or 1.72 ones and because I don't want to limitate the choice of roms with HSPL2 for only a certain variety or roms (1.66 OR 1.72).
Hope that will help you guys to make a decision
Big thank to all the Chefs I mentioned above and to the others, you guys make all an awesome job!

The noise distortion and the battery consumption are RADIO related issues (if your radio keeps on searching for a signal, it will drain your battery quickly), not rom except for a well-known program whom shortcut had to be deleted from the Start menu because it was creating battery drain, I think it was Ameba or Swype, but I'm not sure. As for the bluetooth management, it may be issues concerning the Voice commands, but for the data sending/receiving, I never had problems with any of the above mentioned roms, except if the chef uploaded a version with a problem and reuploaded another version later.
Radios 2.06, 2.07 and 2.09 are said not to be power angry.
Miri has just lauched a version of his ROM with both bases over at HTCPedia for us to test.
I've been following this and it seens that, indeed, 1.72 (along with radio 2.09, that is not compatible with 2.XX) is better in terms of battery life and signal.
2.XX with latest WM builds seens to be much faster, on the other side...
Is still partial conclusions...
So is it basically a case of better all around performance in 2.10 and better battery life and signal in 1.72?

Don't know yet.
It seens that, in some places, radio 2.09, wich is incompatible with 2.10 base, performs much better in terms of battery life and signal.
I've experienced it myself.
Regarding performance, I can't tell you for sure it's base related of WM build related.
At this moment, considering the same ROM with the two bases, like Miris, I would go with base 1.72 with radio 2.09, but that's for my region. Don't know if it applies to everybody.
Just as reference, here's Miri's 2.10 base thread, where people asked for a 1.72 version for testing: http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1786
And here's 1.72 version with some valuable feedback: http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?p=52190#post52190
I think this is the best case for testing, since it's almost the same ROMs, only with diferent bases and radios (because of compatibility)

How does HSPL2 limit you? If anything it gives you more choice. With HSPL1 you only get 1.42.hspl and while you can flash any rom with that hspl version, with HSPL2 you can choose between either 1.42.hspl, 1.66.hspl or 2.08.hspl and still flash any rom you want - so you aren't limited to only 1.66 or 1.72 based roms.
The advantages of HSPL2 is that supposedly by matching the hspl version to the rom you get a more stable combo according to Cotulla. Another benefit of HSPL2 is that in order to revert to the original spl version you just choose this from the tool. No need to flash a stock rom via sd card etc.
I have radio version 2.05.51.05_2 and I would like to use this rom -
ROM: ★ Energy Series 23557|Apr 12| , which radio version should I use ?
I found Leo_RADIO_15.33.50.07U_2.07.50.27 **(from TMOUS 2.07) which looks ok, but will this be ok for a 512mb HTC hd2? Or is it for the T mobile version only?
Also, do I update the radio first? with my current stock ROM? Or do I update the ROM first and then update Radio?
Thanks in Advance
Will this be your first flash?
If so, check this before do anything else: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
If not, and if you already have HSPL installed on your device, you should first flash the RADIO ROM and then the ROM. (check previous link for that too)
I personally like the one's on my sig, but you must try several rom's and radios' and see wich one you like more.
Hope i could help.
i think next time you may not make a new thread. you can ask what you are confused on Energy ROM thread...

Thanks for that. This is my first flash, but I have already run hspl2 and my phone is set to 1.42 hspl.
I just want to make sure I have all the correct info before I flash.
So you can confirm that this radio will work with my device?
Hi
I use Energy rom now
I use radio 2.08.50.08_2
And everything is OK
But somebody said that radio 2.07 will give a better battery life, you could try this I use radio 2.08 because I like the newer radio
You should upgrade radio first, then Rom
My device is "normal" HD2
Im sure you have either a: allready flashed your phone successfully
or b: bricked it and are now crying under your bed sheets as you've managed to make the worlds most expesive door stop.
either way, do energy roms will not work with a .51 radio. it has to be a .50.
I use 2.08.50.08 and works a charm, its reported that 2.07 radio's are better for battery life.

As djchubbs said, you should use only .50 RADIO's on Energy ROM, so the one you said it's ok
Happy flashing
Hi everyone, I' just searching for the best Radio for My LEO.. Could you help me in this?
My Currently ROM: Energy ROM Build 23129 Cookie Sense2.5
My Currently Radio: 2.08.50.08_2
more the 80 views and no answer!!!!!!
There is no single best radio. Which one works best for YOU, depends on your area and what sort of battery life is acceptable to you. You should try a few out and see what works well for you. Be careful though, .51 (and some .50) radios will brick your device.

I've tried a few for my TMOUS HD2 and chose to stick with 2.07.50.27_2 because it seemed to cause the least problems, from my experience at least.
Freeincolorado, Narathip.. thank you for your help
Hi there,
i tested a lot of Windows Mobile ROM's and everyone with specific behavior to a Radio. Actually i'm using the EnergyROM GER C00kie 28 Aug and it is amazing. I also would use Android but i'm not able to find a good Radio.
So i decided to start a Thread, where everyone can post hier Radio, ROM WM, Android ROM and his Place + Network (Eplus,Vodafone etc.).
I hope it can be a useful help to wirght down positiv and negative experiences you made with Android on different Radios.
So i tried the 2.07 Radio, witch has an amazing Batterylife on Windows Mobile on latest EnergyROM. But in Android over 6 hours a lost 50 % Battery in standby! Tried Radio 2.12 and high drain in WinMo and bad connection in Android.
I'm in Germany with BASE.

You used 2.07 radio with android ? You didn't read the sticky.. Actually I am surprised android ran fine with it, you must have >= 2.08
All radio are different for each one, i saw a lot of thread like yours and nothing interesting went out. If that can help I am using 2.08 for france/switzerland, call quality is good and I am loosing 1% in standby each hour.
no i read
but because radio was perfect, i tried it. And NRZ gives advice to use 2.07 or 2.12 with his WM ROM.
i'll try this two for next
Leo_RADIO_2.10.50.28_2 and Leo_RADIO_2.08.50.05** (you mean this 2.08?)
how is your battery behavior in windows mobile and android? both good?

2.08.50.05 yes. So happy with it that I don't feel the need to change. Try it, maybe german and france have the same ways to deal with signals... seems to work good with wm but honestly I don't use it at all anymore.

i'll try thanks, stupid question, but can i update or downgrade Radio (e.g. 2.12 to 2.08) without a full new flash?
[Full Flash: Task29 -> Radio -> WinMo ROM]
or can i only flash a new radio over the installed ROM?

Im using these and my android is running smoothly. However if your going to use android 10% i reccomend one of the stripped winmo roms made for using android only.
I am using radio 2.11.50.26 , have tried every else possiblle, but non of them is so lite on battery usage as 2.11.
Keep in mind that radio is country ( mobile network provider ) dependent.
So 2.11 might work for me but not for you.
Regarding ROM, I dont think that WINMO ROM plays a key factor when using android.

I think the radio is more of a regional thing, may be different for EU, USA, China, or if you phone is locked in to a provider (T-mobile)
If you enter your serial number at the HTC site, the ROM they give you should be suitable for your phone, it worked for me and was the easiest thing to do ;-)
