So recently I went and bought a g1 with a cracked screen because I had sold my custom mytouch to pay a ticket (I'm 17, money gets tight) and wanted to do a different housing like I did with my mytouch so I bought a green one off of ebay from hongkong. I just recently got it finished up with everything working and wanted to know if anyone else has actually done this with one of the knockoff colored housings? I searched google and couldn't find any other pictures, and it came out pretty good for a first attempt in my opinion so I figured I'd share.

ahh I meant pictures installed lol, and thanks
I've been thinking of replacing the housing on my myTouch (the day warranty ends, mind you, not wasting that!). Might get pink for my fiancee in case she ever wants it (she likes old flip phones that do nothing but text and call ) but for me, its going to have to be black.
Glad you showed me there's colors, though. Thank you! I might get a yellow or something and paint designs on it. Now that would be awesome.
I'm not sure which mytouch you're talking about doing but I did the one without a headphone jack and the only way it would fit together was without this piece on the back that was for the antenna that I had to replace with copper wire lol, but amazingly after that I NEVER had less than three bars, crazy for tmobile around here. Oh and the little hole at the bottom for the mic was on the wrong side, I had to drill a new one. With the G1 I had no fitment issues but yeah when I did the mytouch the housing was actually for an HTC magic because there were none for the mytouch when I did it. So if you run into any issues when you decide to do it let me know because as far as I know there are no tutorials

Yes, it's the old one without the headphone jack.HTC Magic/ION/myTouch 3g are EXACTLY the same. The problems resulted from the manufacturer of the new housing being a complete moron, lol. Its probably going to be a while until I try, like I said, I want my warranty.

hey man
can we see the new awesome black 8125 !!! i have been waiting !!!!
Been waiting here too!
Does that mean it didn't work? Maybe he forgot to mask off the screen. The keyboard buttons might not move either. Would be neat to see a black one though.
I am also curious as to how a black one will look....
He might have got caught up trick-or-treating!!
You should post pics with maybe a little How-To guide on how you did it and what kind of paint you used.
i actually got caught up with work.
i will be uploading the pics to my server tonight sorry for the delay .
ill post a how two as sooon as i paint my 2nd 8125 im gonna go white on the 2nd.
comes out clean i used hobby enamel paint , primer , and clear .

and yeah everything works 100 percent no lose parts / objects everything works like new.
well hell, i will be the first to vote for a "how-to"!! i have been interested in doing something like this for a bit but havent had the time. thats great to see that you had success with the project.
i need to get ahold of another facia (cause mine has a few battle wounds from them drunken nights) for my 8125 then id be totally down to give it a go. if you do a walk thru, make sure to note which kind of paints you use and such... and if anyone knows where to get a brand new facia, lemme know.
wErSa
i like it. excellent work digitalmediaworkz. i agree with wErSa that a lil howto is a good idea + im too looking for new casing since mine althou not even a month old already has some scratches n paint chipped off.
looks good...i think white would look awesome. i would like to see pic once you're done with white.
why didn't you paint the keys?
for those interested in a new facia (casing) i found this site. they have them available for $79 (for the 8125.. didnt check other phones).
if anyone knows of any other places to find em for cheaper, speak up!!!
wErSa
thanks for the responses I kinda did it with a rush since I was anxious to see if it was gonna power up I will be respraying it including the main keyboard trim by the beginning of next week.
might do white or gold base with candy red I come from the custom car paint scene so I got a couple ideas.

The black/metalish coating down at the stylus is starting to come of on my trinity after just about two weeks!!!... Anyone else here who have noticed the same?

<- Can someone tell me how this picture came in this post?!!??
[I put it there. V]
Same here!
I have the same problem!
Very annoying considering how much the device is - this is the only negative that I have about it.
This is where a silicone case would come in useful. None presently exist for the Trinity, but then it is only a matter of time.
can someone post a picture of the problem. i am also thinking about getting a dopod d810 soon in the new year and I would like to see how serious the problem is....
yep a photo of the problem would be great.
Have you tried getting the phone replaced?
I've sent the phone in for a service to see what they have to say. But HTC will most likely deny that this is their problem... *argh*
I will post a picture when I come home.
Sound as the same problem with the Wizard after a few weeks you can peel of the coating on the side also (think wet hands).
Check out the attached files...
BTW: mine started to peel off on the front too... This is crap! *argh*
Did you drop it or was this from normal use? I'm a bit worried now...
Can a black sharpie or something make it look better? I'm interested to hear what HTC says!
humm, mine is still perfect after 2 weeks
No dropping or anything. I've used it with care, even though I'm a bit "fast" when I take out the stylus, but I mean a unit like this should be built for that kind of use. (and I don't have any long sharp nails either which might actually be a killer for the paint.... )
btw: what is a sharpie? Some kind of "make-up" stick?
HTC should offer to replace the phone.
I would be pretty alarmed if they didn't.
Sorry, Sharpie is a permanent marker
Google it
hi guys,
that looks pretty bad. it can only get worse if its peeling like that. get a replacement. it seems the gloss coat isnt bonded properly to the case
Peeling off here too....
Well I have this problem too, but its merely visible. The interesting thing is: It looks like there is shining metal under the coating. Can anybody confirm this? I wouldnt mind to have the bottom piece looking like blank metal.
I think there is a dark, semi-shining metal below the coating.
Still waiting for a reply from the service center.
OMG they seems to painted the bottom part of white Trinity case over with black paint on top.. semi-shining metal coating you guys seeing is what bottom part of white Trinity looks like in fact.
Just took a look at the white trinity now.. And you know what SecureGSM? You might be right... Or maybe it's just a coincidence...?
Well, the only concern I had with my Hermes was it is god dam big.
It's tolerable when it's without anything but I just want protect my 8525 from scratches.
I always cover my phone with plastic cover, but it looks so big when it's in my pant's pocket,
as someone once joked that he thought it was my PH.D(pretty huge D) skewed to left(or right),
and I'm an asian, the fact of which makes my figure pretty an irony(I can joke about my race, right??).
In my country, Korea, they cover phone with sorta printed plastic or film sticker,
which enables easy outfit reforms of phones as well as scratch protaction.
As they don't have 8525 in this country, I was looking for expansion drawings for 8525, which I couldn't.
I posted about this issue but no one gives a dam about that or my Eng was sucky.
Anyhow, I finally made it by myself. it's kinda not perfect yet.
I ordered plastic sticky sheet from cellphone reforming shop and I need to cut that sheet(or sh*t) by my self following the expansion drawing, but if they gets enough demand, I can ask for customized factory cut of the expansion drawing so that I(or we) don't have to waste my time for precise cutting.
I don't believe there would be such a huge demand, cuz this forum is for sorta geeks(at least a bit of), not for metropolitan-ambiguous gendered dudes.
So the product of covered phones will be like this::

I will post mine soon if I succeed in making a versatile outfit. I am making it with Paul Smith stripes, and you can also cover your phone with sorta like Gucci or LV or BMW, Jessica alba....and so on.
So if you are interested in getting something like that, post a reply or enter a poll.
Then I am thinking about supplying through ebay.
The cost of the cover would be around 15 bucks including shipping fee.
Customized order(of picture) would be more than that, I gotta ask the shop owner.
So anyone interested??
It's only available for 8525, or other Hermes model which has totally same outfit.
P.S- How do you call that kinda cover in English, if it has name?

So I just got bored tonight and decided to see what the internals of the hero were like. idk if you have ever seen an iphone inside or an ipod touch but they have everything super compact in there... well the hero (htc) really failed at that. there is about 1/5th of an inch of empty space only filled by the battery and camera. as well as a couple antenna's. I'm a little bummed that they didn't use the space that well, seems half-assed.
Did you notice how the power and talk keys are secured in? There is a little plastic rod that was melted down which goes through a loop molded as a part of those buttons, making it almost impossible to remove them. Completely insane. The rest of the phone is surprisingly simple to disassemble.
yeah it took about 5 minutes to get every part separated.. I also cleaned my trackball (took it out) and that required some crafty fingers. and yes I did see that, im kinda glad it was that simple

If you have to remove the digitizer for any reason be VERY careful. The ribbon cable is easy to crack and the digitizer itself is very fragile. It takes about 10 minutes of careful prying at the edges to loosen the glue enough that you can pull it out.
Personally, I'm very happy with the simplicity of this phone's design. It makes repairs much easier! I agree that HTC could have used the space a bit more efficiently and slimmed the phone down a little though.
Any chance you can post some pictures..
I am not brave enough to open mine. But always interested to see the insides if somebody would be willing to post.
seen a few iphone tear-downs
I usually take pics w/ the phone... but I'll see what I can do.
when i said half assed, I just meant their space management thats all
Perhaps that space could be used to house a full size SD card and give our phones 32GB at a reasonable price.

Full detailed pics of the Hero being disassembled here and how to do it: http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc-hero/22036-sprint-htc-hero-disassembly-diy.html
I have my phone for about 7 months, almost one fourth of the time I held my phone in my jeans, without a case, only a vikuti screen protector and a silcone case.
Now, For a month or so, I have this oil spot under my screen. Asked around, searched and tried the duct tape methods without any luck. I even tried a suction cup I have from my gps car holder.
Not a change. So as soon as I get some cash I will see how much would this cost to fix or I will look into buying another phone. Maybe a sgs2.
Don't carry the phone in your pockets. You have been warned.

It's also called rainbow spot. Here is a pic I found on the net on another phone that has the same problem, only that my spot is a lot smaller.

I had this, exactly the same, done it in pocket. but it was fixed under warranty.
before i sent it off however i tried bending the phone in half and the spot disappeared.
Now I dont suggest that anyone should do this.
But if you were going to get a new phone anyway, you could try bending with slightly greater force. (away from your eyes and with gloves on( it is glass))
Else there are threads which talk of replacing the screen, for techie types.
Good luck
thats not HD2
I've had the same problem twice, all you need to do is send it back to HTC and they will fix it for you...
But you will lose your phone for a week.
On the paper the send back with my HD2 they diagnosted it as "Newton rings".
You could google that and try to find another solution, if you don't want to lose your phone for a week or if you dont have warrenty anymore.
Good luck
I have bought the phone ~3-4 months old, without warranty. Now it is almost a year old.
Ok, let's say I want to keep this phone, if I want to replace a part, what part does it need to be replaced? Where do those newton rings appear? On the digitizer or on the lcd screen?
And if it's the screen, I've read that sharp lcd's are better. Where to find those for a nice price?
edit: Would it be a bad idea to buy from china wholesale sites if searching after the sharp lcd's part number? 60H00295-00P
Did anyone do this?
