Google Homepage forces browser close - Vibrant General

Hi,
I've just gotten my Vibrant over the weekend and now I'm noticing after I allow google.com to use the "location service" (first time it works fine), when I browses to some other sites then comes back to it, or just simply re-open the browser in a later time and goes back to google.com (mobile version btw), the browser just closes itself.
I've also tried a factory reset and still was able to reproduce this issue.
Now if I do NOT allow the location service, everything would be working fine.
Is anybody else having the same issue?
my phone is not rooted.
Thanks.

Happening to me to, very very frustrating

Its probably due to the GPS. Try turning it off or applying the temp. fix.

the flash plugin has been giving me a bunch of browser crashes, not sure if that is you issue but seems to work for me with it turned off

It started happening to me today. It was working all this week with locations turned on and google as my home page, however this morning I opened the browser and it closed by itself, repeatedly. I realized that it had something to do with location as it closed imediately after "updating location". I set the browser not to use the location and now it works fine.
However, now I get "location unavailable" and a link to update. If I click update, then the browser closes, so it seems to be related to lbs.
What I don;t understand is why it started happening yesterday, after a week of normal operations.
I really hope the GPS and compass are fixed in the next release/OTA update, otherwise, back to my nexus one.

Did anyone ever find a fix for this? It happens intermittently on my phone. I turn off location sensing and use it for a while that way and it works fine. Usually, I can re-enable location the next day and everything is okay for a few days before it starts automatically closing again.

Time to use m.bing.com

Google.com force closing
Happened to me too. Here's the fix:
Go into browser. Before it finishes loading Google.com, go into Settings and disable Location and Plugins.
Now use a task killer to fully kill the browser.
The final step is to go into the browser again and re-enable everything.
Did it work for you?
On an unrelated note, this seems like a Galaxy-S bug:

I figured the reason why we're waiting so long for the GPS fix is because it's being bundled in with other fixes.

Well this quote squashes any hope of getting Froyo in sept along with the GPS fix since they are calling it a Maintenance release. I was hoping they were going to give us a surprise with the GPS and bug fixes for all of our troubles...

I asked about this issue a long time ago when the Vibrant was first released. No proposed solution consistently works. Therefore I just leave location off for Google.com. Try using the application "Places" as an alternative to the Google.com location-enabled local search.
Hopefully this bug is fixed in the future.

I don't know why, but mine seems to have mysteriously fixed itself. I even have the gps on to find out if it WILL close by itself and..nothing. It works fine now after two and a half weeks of not working. Finds my location and doesn't close.

Just give it a bit and it will start crashing again ;-p
Just kidding, hopefully it stays working for you. For those of us for whom it doesn't work, check out places directory in the market.

Closing as soon as it opens or after some use? If the former, is your home page set to Google.com with location access enabled?
It's an Android software problem imho. I was just entering a reply in a different xda forum USING OPERA and before I could finish the f'n browser just f'n closed on me. Didn't save where I was browsing or anything.
Has happened to me several times and I don't think it's only the stock browser.
Yeah, google is set as home page and location finder is on.

o noticed that with the lag fix i applied, the browser freezes up or just wont load all the way. I removed the lag fix and everything works fine. I don't even know if there is a way to delete the cache on the ext2 partition. cache cleaner doesn't fix it so it just builds up and builds up

I bet that's your problem. To fix it, try to get into settings before the page finishes loading. Clear location access, and until Samsung releases a fix, don't allow Google.com to have location access.
If you really like the local search feature, try "places directory" from the market in the mean time.
this happened to me everytime i tried to go to flash intesive websites. it wasn't too often though, i ended switching to xscope is the best browser i have used on a mobile device(personal opinion).
give it a try.
stock, dolphin and skyfire all crash on me if i go to some web pages with flash. Turning off use plugins in the settings fixes it.

Web browser keeps closing

This is my second vibrant and I have noticed that after browsing web for s small amount of time the browsers keeps closing suddenly and returning to home screen... This happened on my first vibrant as well... Is anyone else suffering from this issue or knows a way to fix this?

Yes this happens, hopefully they will fix it.
There are two options to remedy the situation for now.
1st, go into your browser settings and uncheck plug-ins.
Personally this didn't work for me
2nd option which works flawlessly. The second option is to visit desktop versions of websites. For example, if I visit mobile version of google, it just randomly exits. So what I did is set my homepage to the full desktop version. Since google is my homepage, i went into settings, and typed out the full path for google desktop view into my start page settings.
Again, if your browser randomly closes, try visiting full page views.
I've also noticed this is linked to the GPS issue. Some sites try to get your location. If the site starts trying to find your location, and your gps is bust, the browser just exits.
you could try a 3rd party browser like dolphin or skyfire.

It has been confirmed that on the Mobile version of Google, the "nearest location" check activates the GPS which crashes the browser.
Turn off the GPS. Open a webpage to Google search and finger "Classic" which is half way down the page. This will switch you to the original Google site so that its not trying to get your location when you open a browser window. If a site is trying to use your location it will happen, but in my experience it has only been on mobile sites using location tracking.
There is a setting to turn off - allow websites to request access to your location. Would that help?
This isn't necessarily a location settings issue. It could be a flash issue. When visiting some pages with flash content, the browser will suddenly close and return you to the homescreen. If this is the case, it will happen every time you visit a particular page, and it will also happen with skyfire and Dolphin HD (at least on the 2 phones I have tried them on). Only option to fix this problem is to disable plug-ins in the browser settings.
Good Luck.

Google Now not working - Cannot click on search results

So I received my Nexus 7 on Monday and have consistently been having issues with Google Now. Basically, I cannot click on any of the search results. After rebooting the device, I can click the results and open in Chrome, maybe 3-4 times. After that 4th time, Google Now search results simply do not work (until I reboot the device).
I can see that the blue result is highlighted when I tap it, but Chrome does not open the link. I can +1 the results, and open links that don't open Chrome (for instance, the "did you mean..." will work, inside the Now application).
It is infuriating to not be able to use this core feature. I have even tried resetting the device (twice!). I am a US Customer, although I found in some searches that people outside of the US were having some issues.
I seem to have such an isolated problem that I cannot find anyone on the internet with the same issue. Is it just me? Is there something I am missing? Keep in mind, it works sometimes - so I don't believe it is setup incorrectly. Could the problem be with Chrome? I have cleared data on that application (in addition to resetting the device) but no luck.

I have the same problem, if I search in Chrome the links always work but sometimes when I search in Now they don't. Its intermittent and its working fine at the moment. It is very annoying. I thought it might be a symptom of the touch screen not working as has been reported elsewhere.
haven't looked this up yet, but would pushing the old apk from the 84D build restore all the features (pre-apple patent update)???
seems watered down on 4.1.1.

I've done some more troubleshooting and found out it is something wrong with my main Google account. I added my "back-up" google account to the nexus. I just turned off all sync options for it, but in Google Now I set the "back-up" as the account to use. Everything works fine every time! As soon as I switch to my main google account the problem comes right back.
I contacted google support this morning and they are going to look into my account to see if there is any corrupt data causing search issues.
Sadly, I already deleted all my web history thinking that something in there was the cause - it was not.
I will keep you posted.

[Q] Issues after kitkat update

I hope this isn't the wrong forum. This is my first post.
I have a Nexus 4 running Android 4.4.2 rooted. I have a few issues that I wonder if others are having. In chrome i have 'location unavailable'. GPS is turned on, but if I tap 'use precise location' nothing happens. Waze works, so my GPS is functioning.
Second issue is if I follow a link that wants to open my Wikipedia app, I get the message that Wikipedia has stopped functioning and it closes. I've had the same issue with a few other apps but Wikipedia happens all the time.
I had changed my runtime to ART. I switched back to Dalvik and same problems. I'm also using GEL. Are these known issues? If so is it due to 4.4 specifically or is it the GEL launcher? I hope it's not the launcher because I really like it.

All I can say is that it's NOT the launcher. When I switched to ART, the TImely app kept force closing. Regarding the wikipedia app, u can wait for an update
Have you enabled the google ocation report? If you haven't, maybe that's why chrome can't detect your location. Also try using high accuracy option.

S7 Edge Notification Delay and A Lot of Other Problems

Recently I am having notification delays with my S7 Edge G935F. I have read through some posts on this forum and other sources and can't figure it out.
Here are some of the problems:
1. notifications are often delayed for more than thirty minutes
2. if I want to manually check notification when it does not pop up, unlocking the screen does not make the notification show, I have to actually launch the specific app to see the notification
3. It is more than just not showing the notification, when I am using some instant messaging apps (like WeChat), I can't see new messages coming in while the app is running in the front. I have to press the home button and get back to home screen, then re-enter the app, then the messages show up. This happens to many other apps as well.
4. Other things go wrong as well. For example, my Android Auto was set to launch whenever I get into my car and car bluetooth is connected. It is also delayed, by more than hours. It often launches long after I finish my driving and get back home sitting on my couch.
5. Downloading new apps from Play Store has problems as well. It downloads to 100% and just stops there, it does not start installation. I have to use Settings->App to kill Play Store and re-open it to "refresh" it, then it starts to install.
6. After installation of new app, it does not show up on my screen or app draw inside my launcher. I can see the app installed in Play Store. I have to kill launcher and re-open the launcher to make it "refresh" the app list then I can see new app inside the app draw.
I have also tried a lot of ways to fix it:
1. change app to not battery optimized -> didn't fix it
2. update firmware -> didn't fix it
3. factory reset -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
4. flash to a different firmware (official ROM in different regions) -> works for the first day then it goes wrong again
5. use third-party ROM (Lineage OS) -> completely fix the problem, but too buggy to use
I can see the general idea of what's going wrong, some events happened (connected to car Bluetooth, new messages coming, app finished downloading, new app installed, etc.) and the system is not responding correctly. I am not very familiar with Android development but I feel like something is wrong with the "event handling" or "event raising" inside Samsung's Android system.
Please post reply if you have any idea or are facing the similar problems.
EDIT:
The phone is on Android 7.0, Build Number NRD90M.G935FXXU1DQER
You've stated that flashing the custom ROM solved the problem, so maybe you should try flashing a different rom that's a bit more stable.
From personal experience i can recommend the SuperStock rom. It's stock (obviously) and it's debloated and very stable with pretty good battery life as far as i remember.
there is some info about it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/want-to-root-custom-one-stay-stock-t3631098?styleid=18 (ignore the root part).
Hi,
did you find any solution to this problem ? cause i got the same problem, and i'm going crazy... few months already and can't figure out what is the problem...
the temporary fix i've found is disabling the "google app" in application manager... it fix the problem but i can't use any Google app features (and i like using them...).
I've found few ppl experiencing the same problem searching on internet but no one with a real fix...
if someone more experienced can help debut this it would really mean a lot...
I think it is the battery optimization setting. You may check the settings>battery>advanced settings>optimize apps. You need to keep the apps un-optimized if you want the notifications and sync.
Also, you may check if Sync is on or off.
If these two does not solve, factory reset if you are on stock ROM. If on a custom ROM, you may check a different ROM
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Actually none of this works... The only thing that "fixes" the issue is disabling the Google app in the application manager... That's why its so weird...
The problem started around July/August 2017 for me...
As i discovered that disabling Google was fixing the problem, i assumed that they'll correct it by updating the app... But only one update of the app was ok, all others would make the problems reappear...
Messing with battery optimization settings doesn't change anything for me... Factory reset as well... The problem comes back as soon as the google app gets updated...
Try clearing cache and deleting data from the Google app the time the problem occurs
already tried... doesn't help at all...
